Sons of Valor #2

Violence of Action

Rate this book
They train to be the toughest, the smartest, the most covert operators in the world--they are the Tier One Navy SEALs, led by Lieutenant Commander Keith Chunk Redman.

When a former teammate of Chunk's is killed in a shocking ambush, rumors begin to fly that the Lion of Ramadi, the infamous Iraq War sniper who racked up dozens of American kills, has returned with a mission to target American SEALs. Chunk and his core team--Saw, a skilled and lethal sniper; Riker, who has an uncanny ability to escape death; and Whitney Watts, a former CIA analyst who sees patterns everyone else seems to miss--are mobilized to prosecute the threat.

But this is no ordinary counterattack, because someone posts the details of the hit all over social media, taunting the American SEALs. Worse, the enemy seems prepared to counter all the Tier One's moves, a dangerous new stage in the war on terror and a troubling sign that whoever is behind the attack is planning something bigger.

Fearing they may have been duped into chasing the wrong target, Chunk and his team embark on a high-stakes cat-and-mouse mission where nothing--and no one--is what they expect. And when their enemy finds a way to strike at the heart of what's nearest and dearest to them, it will test not only their bonds but also the personal sacrifices they've made to keep America safe.

Violence of Action by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson is the second book in the Sons of Valor series with Keith Chunk Redman as the main character and Whitney Watts as a secondary character but I prefer Watts. She has something special going on. The book picks up where the first left us and our small band of black ops operatives continue hunting bad guys. There are some really awesome twists in this book and I like this sereies better and better. I am amazed at the rate they produce books and hope I can keep up with them in the future. I must thank #Edelweiss and #BlackstonePublishing for giving me this advance copy and @BAndrewsJWilson for writing it.

Everything Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson write is fantastic and Sons of Valor II: Violence of Action is no exception. As solo writers (I'm making them sounds like pop stars), their previous books are all great but together they are a super duper über group. They are the boy band of the thriller genre.

For me, Violence of Action is not quite as good as the first Sons of Valor. They set the bar so high I'm not sure it was possible to top it. But I'm not saying Violence of Action isn't great because it is.

Violence of Action has everything you've come to expect from Andrews and Wilson: a great story, incredible action and witty, authentic dialogue that propels the story forward. Do yourself a favor and don't miss Sons of Valor II: Violence of Action.

My sincere thanks to Andrews and Wilson, Blackstone Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of Sons of Valor II: Violence of Action.

Sons of Valor II, by the brilliant power writing duo Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson, is the second book in the Sons of Valor series.

Keith Chunk Redman, as the lead character, is back and when a former teammate is killed in an ambush, everything points to the Lion of Ramadi and that the mission is to target American SEALs. Chunk and his team is forced to mobilize and to deal with the threat.

I absolutely loved the first book and the second book is a great sequel. It's well written, action-packed and impossible to put down. I highly recommend this book and series.

Thanks to the authors, the publisher and Edelweiss for this advanced copy.

7/28/2022-

This is book 2 in the Sons of Valor series. While most of this stands on its own - I’d definitely recommend listening to Sons of Valor first for some additional background on the characters and team formation.

Chunk, Watts, Riker, Saw, and Yi are back!!! Another enjoyable action packed military thriller from Andrews & Wilson. I continue to enjoy their mix of relatable characters, humor, operations, politics, mystery, & suspense. None of the individuals are perfect or superheroes - but as a team they are nearly unstoppable. I love that A&W offer various perspectives, even the antagonists, and I enjoy getting to know each character so thoroughly.

I appreciate the way multiple storylines, engaging on their own, culminate into a huge final event. Or two. There’s definitely some threats still surviving, so there’s more to come.

Narration:
Ray Porter is talented at bringing all these personalities to life as well as enhancing all the emotions that A&W layer in. I feel myself experiencing anticipation, humor, frustration, anger, and fear along with the team. I love listening to these books over and over.

7/26/2022 - Audiobook release day!

6/20/2022 - Waiting for audio

6/6/2022 - Audio has been pushed back until August due to Ray Porter recovering from Covid.

Now I have to decide whether I’m going to read it first or just wait for the audiobook. 🤔

Great action story of an elite American navy seals team fighting terrorism. Book #2 of a 4 book series. Great characters! The 2nd book picks up where the 1st book left off and takes you to Dubai.

Genres: Military/Thriller

I enjoy the books by A & W. I picked this one up because I have liked their "Tier One" series. So I had high hopes going into it and I was not disappointed. They do so many things well. Solid is a word I'd use to describe their work.

I liked the characters, the humor, the camaraderie, the action scenes, the story line and so much more. The authors balance everything well and add to that the quick pace....together they create a story that pulls me right in. So 4 stars.

I was thrilled to see the latest book available from NetGalley by this dynamic author duo. I have gladly read everything written by this team and have not been disappointed yet.

This is the second book in the series and I found it interesting that this is the first book that I have read that has incorporated the real world withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan and the implications to our armed forces of that act. Our Spec Ops teams now have to deal with an enemy who now has the latest in technology and it makes the "Own the Night" advantage that much harder for our guys and gals.

Without going into spoilers this book continues the story arc from the first book of a new developing terror organization that is not the typical type of terror organization we were used to. This "new" type of organization is intelligent, tech savy and fully funded. They are putting plans in place that the US has not seen before and are attempting to utilize a level of PsyOps that the US previously excelled at.

The action in this book starts from the very beginning and it takes off immediately from the ending of the last book. There .is an act that occurs right away that directly impacts one of our Special Forces teams and that jumpstarts the reaction of the new Tier One Gold team. Along with the action, this book takes a deeper look into the emotions and relationships that take place within this level of commitment to defending our country. We get to see more of Whitney Watts in this book and I definitely like the growth and development of her character. We also get to see a more in depth look at "Chunk" as he grows and matures as a leader.

I will admit to having butterflies in my stomach for the entire last section of the book. The pacing was a bit spotty and there were moments that I felt tended to drag a little bit, but for the most part it kept my attention and kept the tension tight enough that I didn't want to stop reading until I found out what was going to happen.

Did I like this book as much as the first book? No, I didn't. But...I LOVED that first book so much that it had already set the bar extremely high. Even though it wasn't my favorite, it was still an amazing book. Was it worth reading? Without a doubt.

Unfortunately, we do not see a conclusion to the story arc and there is a set up for book 3. So...I guess now the wait begins for the next book. I'm okay with that.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

This one is on target! Sons of Valor 2 gets right to business where book 1 left off. In the wake of a deadly drone attack in Kandahar, Tier One SEAL team is dispatched to bring hell to an enemy sniper whose legend weighs heavy on American forces. Running and gunning half a world away, Tier One team will keep you dialed in. Five big stars for Brian Andrews & Jeff Wilson! Thank you to NetGalley & Blackstone Publishing for an early shot at this great story!

The writing team of Brian Andrews and Jeffery Wilson are synonyms with high action and edge of your seat thrillers. With their combined background of military service and already successful independent writing careers, this pair has come together to create novels that have raised the bar in the military thriller genre. They say “write what you know”, and Andrews and Wilson have taken that to the next level with their multiple blockbuster series!

Andrews and Wilson have already arrived on the military thriller stage with their highly lucrative Tier One series featuring John Dempsey. However, the writing duo wanted to look for that next peak to summit in writing genius! Residing within the world they have created featuring John Dempsey, Andrews and Wilson have just penned their second novel in the Sons of Valor series Violence of Action.

Violence of Action picks up right where the first novel ended. The sophisticated terrorist organization, al Qadar is still out there, and the Tier One’s top analyst Whitney Watts is still on their trail. When a lethal sniper kills a brother SEAL, Chunk and his Tier One SEALs are deployed to prosecute this target. However, as they start this hunt, they come to realize the hunter may have become the hunted.

The team is on a race against the clock to prevent this terrorist organization from attaining their ultimate goal: to hit the American military where it counts, and to bring them to their knees. This organization is toying with the Tier One, forcing them to attack this target in an ever evolving way. Can Watts, with her uncannily ability to see patterns where others can not, beat the terrorist at their own game before the ultimate price is payed?

I highly enjoyed Violence of Action because it took the military thriller genre, and raised the bar to a new hight! The plot of a terrorist organization leading on a Tier One team was beyond terrifying, and added this level of fear I have yet to see. Can Watts, Chunk, and the team stop this organization before what they love is destroyed?

The story part of these books and the characters are what sucks me in every damn time. Not a military person, I cannot speak to how accurate things are but as far as an action packed, fun, edge of your seat exciting read? That you will definitely get here.

These guys keep getting better. It's rare when a series (or an author, or a pair of authors in this case) can keep things fresh and exciting. I know this is book 2 in the series but they've created this one and somehow kept it fresh and unique even after writing the Jack Dempsey series. And other stand-alone books.

I'm looking forward to the next one. And the next.

I really enjoy the writing of these authors. They are descriptive without being overly detailed. The timing of the humor and the little details they include make the characters and story feel real. I think they have found the right formula between action, dialogue, and character development. I also like the way their writing builds to the climax around a solid plot. It was nicely done in this book as well as the important foreshadowing in the conversation between Chunk and Saw.

Unlike some other reviewers, I thought the writers made Qasim Nadar sound quite convincing in his debrief with Chunk and Watts in the hotel while still portraying Watts with the right amount of skepticism. And the last chapter before the epilogue showed that both Lucy Kim and Watts are not convinced about Nadar.

My question in the storyline was around Hamza and fake Hamza (bodyguard Razaq). If there was DNA available somewhere to compare to Asadi Bijan's DNA then why had the fake Hamza's DNA not been compared to that DNA after he was captured? Although in book one it was a little unclear how much Hamza looked like his bodyguard (one place it said they looked similar after saying they didn't look alike), I guess I can give a pass to Watts and Chunk when it didn't click with them that Asadi looked similar to fake Hamza when they first met in the club in Dubai. On the other hand, I did think it was illogical for Hamza to not be aware of being followed when he left the club especially since he knew Chunk and Watts were operatives when he met them.

The writers' understanding of the Middle East is evident in their writing. I did appreciate that this book highlighted how the west for decades has flipped flopped on the Kurds. The Kurds have fought hard alongside of the west to secure their own territory, but the west has failed them time and time again.

I do recommend reading Sons of Valor book one first to fully appreciate the characters and this storyline. This book picks up smoothly from the first book. The epilogue definitely set up the segue for a third book which is great news. I can't wait for it to come out next summer. In the meantime, I see that their book Dempsey (book 7 of the Tier 1 series) is due out in early 2023. I'm beyond thrilled and curious about the storyline of Dempsey missing in Russia.

I seldom if ever give fiction books in this genre 5 stars. If there were half star ratings, I'd give this 4.5 stars.

This was a great sequel to Sons of Valor. The story continues and keeps building and building in intensity until the end. It really showed how the face of terrorism has changed. It focused as much on psychological warfare as it did on physical warfare. It’s a scary thing.

I appreciate the close bond that Chunk and Watts have with each other and with the rest of the team. They rely on each other so much that the removal of one shakes everything up. When their own are threatened, they all come running to help.

It is interesting being inside the minds of both a terrorist and a Navy seal. The characterization is solid. I believed the conflicted emotions and understood the decisions various characters made. It was a great read. I’d recommend it to all lovers of military fiction.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This series is a great continuing action filled entertainment; however I think it would be necessary to read the prior selection in order to fully understand the meaning of some content.
I have been to Abu Dabi, been in awe of the Burgh Khalifa and even taken advantage of the elevator to the viewing room near the top, enjoyed high tea in the opulent Burgh AL Arab so the events in Dubai were very interesting to me. I understand the night club in the Fairmont has been closed.
The authors are very imaginative in the outcome of the successor to the terrorist leadership and I look forward to the next installment!

When a SEAL operation goes tragically wrong due to a legendary terrorist sniper, Tier One gets on the case. Is it possible that the terrorist group they thought they destroyed is still operative?

The terrorists are hatching their plans. The wife of one of them is in a terrible spot. Her plight is actually the most interesting part of the novel.

Chunk mostly whines about needing a dip of tobacco when he's not shooting people.

Not bad, but not up to the standard of the first book in the series.

You know, I am trying to read more nonfiction these days, philosophy, faith, history, etc. Then I accidentally walked by the candy store and you know what happened next.

Andrews and Wilson are, IMHO, the best at what they do. Keep it going!

A great second book in the series. An unexpected twist at the end with the hunted becoming the hunter. The author did a great job of expanding character building. Again a realistic storyline that is not so far fetched. I look forward to reading future stories in this series.

If you read sons of valor one and was eagerly diving into part 2, you won’t be disappointed. A tight, thrilling, emotional ride through the lives of the tier one continues in violence of action. Great story that unexpectedly almost coaxed a tear out of me at one point. Masterful storytelling, not just a bunch of bullets and explosions. This series has it all. On to part 3!!

Terrorism

A story of terrorism at it's worst. Written with technical expertise and a tour of Dubai. A most enjoyable change of pace was Chunk and Whitney enjoying a "night out". Team camaraderie at it's best as a fellow member's family is in jeopardy.
