Lawrence du Garde Peach was an English author and writer of plays for radio, stage and screen. Today he may be best remembered as the author of over 30 books for Ladybird's Adventure from History series of nonfiction children's books, published from 1957 until his death, which was the largest series Ladybird ever produced, and remained in print until 1986.
What an exciting read this must have been for its young readers! I knew about Marco Polo, but not much detail, and will definitely put his writing on my to read list now. Another smashing children's lit contribution from Messrs du Garde Peach and Kenney. I love the description of Kubla Khan's messaging system - thrilling, even in this age of instant communication. Who knows, if all the satellites go down, we might need it again one of these days! Looking forward to reading this with my grandchildren.
