Volume 14 is a story about Fuuga. Souma and his allies are mostly distant observers. The story leaves me a bit conflicted. On the one hand, it is well written and it got me hooked. Great world building. On the other, it is all about Fuuga, an enemy who to an extent feels tagged on to the series to drag the story on.

More importantly, I am inclined to disagree with Souma who at one point states that leaders come with the situation of that time and trying to get rid of the individual will just result in a similar leader rising from the ashes. To me that feels very much like looking at history with the benefits of hindsight, and there being no way to verify the truth of it since we will hardly ever learn of great leaders who died before they could achieve said greatness or notoriety. It also results in Souma being rather passive, the downside of which the author is aware of as stated in the afterword. Not agreeing with Souma's reasoning, just leaves me a bit more disappointed with the resolution even though Fuuga does appear to be a necessary enemy to give the story some much needed momentum. I think I would have liked it to be the Demon Lord...

In this Volume 14, Souma, main character, becomes a secondary character to the main plot arc now (Defeat and conquer the Demon Lord and his territory. Lord Fuuga Haan (Malmkhitan Tribes) takes center stage in the Eastern States Union and consolidates all of the territories, all of the nobles, under his reign through conquest.
Because of Soumas lack of military prowess, and five wives, two children and one more on the way, the author and Souma have prioritized "family" and their protection to actually being the "hero" and "defeating the Demon Lord". Even though Souma has special "hero" skills, he uses them for "bookkeeping" and administrative chores. His Golem/Puppet tamer/necromancy/ control skill, can be very effective to fight opponents but Souma rarely uses it.
Although Fuuga Haan is Souma's nemesis and main competitor, Souma feels Fuuga is stronger and lets him play the "hero" role. Fuuga's sister Yuriga Haan, is studying in Friedonia, and studying there, without having to pay a dime, all because, Souma is passive/submissive towards Fuuga.
This Volume 14 is 224 pages (25+ pages less than the first 12 volumes). It has over 13 chapters (meaning more action than the average 4-5 chapter volumes from before).
Because Fuuga's conquests of the other feudal lords and their territory contradicts the Treaty (Mankind Declaration). Friedonia is not a signatory of this Treaty. It is the responsibility of the Grand Chaos Empire to make its member comply with the "peace" statutes within this "alliance treaty". The Grand Chaos Empire does not interfere. Again, the empire is the biggest force and yet they are the least involved. Souma like a total coward does nothing. I'm starting to think that maybe Liscia got pregnant from somebody else? What about Juna? mmm. A eunuch got summoned to Elfrieden, I hope the broadcasting crystal informs the citizens at least.
Because of all of the action in Volume 14, I think the author should change the title of this light novel to "Summoned pushover loner no longer the protagonist of this other world, now, Fuuga and Demon Lord do whatever the hell they want". Or "Eunuch orphan summoned to kow tow to Fuuga Haan and Demon Lord in another world"....

This one was so good - main topic is Fuuga's rise to power. Lots of the other Chima siblings and their countries get involved too and results in a complex interplay of everyone's personal agendas.

There is some pondering again about types of rulers and how Fuuga's leadership style differs from Souma's. This reminds me of the similar office debate about types of engineering leaders as you go up the chain, and the balance between an engineering leader's own capabilities vs other skills such as recruiting capable personnel, trusting workers etc, and the different types of citizens / employees who tend to respect each type of leader.

Even though the author seemed to be building up Fuuga to be a nemesis to Souma in the previous volumes, it was hard for me to take him seriously as a threat since he is such a musclehead. That was fixed in this volume by pairing him with an advisor who is intelligent, cunning and utterly ruthless, thereby covering for all Fuuga's weaknesses and making him a credible threat. I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Souma and the Kingdom continue to grow but they are watching as Fuuga Han finally makes his move to take over the Union of Eastern Nations. Lots of intrigue and political moves on this one. But at the end we see that Fuuga continues now with a good advisor and looking to the future. One future that Souma predicted upon meeting Fuuga. For being a light novel it packs a lot of no nonsense look at war and its outcomes.

Best one yet. This book focuses on the internal struggles of the Eastern Union and Fuuga’s takeover. So mad at how they ended up. Felt like a civ 5 game where a country blobs and blocks all future expansion.

I hope Souma can find a way to grow tall or find a different way to expand and beat the dictator
