A Paranormal Shifter Romance

A predator prowls the Sea of Cortez, protecting a mystery that has been kept silent for almost a century—damning information that some are still willing to kill for.

Mason Lockheart is a highly decorated Navy SEAL with a mission that he can never reveal to anyone… even the curvy redhead who’s determined to bring everything up from the depths of the sea. Mason’s family has been part of a clandestine patrol since the USS Kracken went down. He has taken on a solemn duty to protect its final resting place and its covert mission.

Twenty years ago, Shiloh Whitaker’s mother was murdered to keep her from revealing what she knew. As a child, Shiloh watched as her mother’s killers got away, running from her home into the black of the night. Now later, she’s a celebrated marine biologist and treasure hunter, but her real calling is to find the Kracken and prove her mother’s suicide was anything but.

When Mason spots Shiloh’s submersible lurking in the dangerous waters around the Kracken, he tries to frighten her away. But Shiloh doesn’t scare so easily—even if the thing that sends her sub to the surface has rows and rows of razor -sharp teeth. Something about Shiloh calls to Mason in a way he’s never known before. Determined to pursue a passion he doesn’t truly understand while still upholding his oath, he follows Shiloh into a storm that could destroy them both.

When the truth is revealed, will Shiloh betray Mason and the Kracken, or will all of the secrets of his heart be safe with her?

There's nothing I hate more than books with unique premises that get ruined by the "hero" (and someone else, later in the book) ASSAULTING THE HEROINE.

Worse even, there was no warning that these things happen. You just jump into a cool shark shifter story where they've been protecting a secret submarine for generations, and then BAM! ASSAULT.

The way this book dropped ratings from five to one is interesting to me though. At some points I thought it couldn't get worse, surely the rating would stop changing, but no, it got worse every time.

The second biggest crime (the first, obviously being the assaults) is that the background story has so much potential, but as soon as Mason and Shiloh meet it turns into him telling her what to do, and when she said no HE DID NOT STOP. NOT ONCE.

He just proceeded to do whatever the hell he wanted to do to her, even when she cried, even when she said stop and no again, he has to get his way and that's that. And then poor Shiloh gets confused because he keeps telling her that she likes his abuse and assaults, she just doesn't know it yet. So she keeps coming back to him (not that he gives her a choice, he always finds her).

Also, Mason growls and purrs. Do with that information what you will.

I am just so angry and so tired of authors writing rape/assault as romantic. You can write alpha males without that, you know. It's really not hard.

If I had a physical copy of this book, then I'd throw it off a cliff. I mean it. Maybe somewhere near shark infested waters, it seems appropriate.

Cage and Shiloh ❤️🔥

This storyline is filled with tragedy, conspiracy and romance with an alpha shark shifter! Shiloh’s parents died under mysterious circumstances and she is determined to find out why. In the process she meets a gorgeous alpha male Cage. They have hot sexual chemistry and when they make love it’s explosive 🔥. As the book progresses they share secrets and then they eventually fall in love, which made me happy for them. I look forward to reading the next book.

I was only a couple of chapters in and thought I didn't want to finish it, but I pushed myself and still had reservations throughout the whole book. I was in two minds whether I would start the next book in the series.

Silent Predator is the first book in the series Masters of the Deep, is a paranormal shifter D/s tale with a shark and a Navy SEAL who also happens to be a dominant, but his dominance is over the top. There is no easing into it; nope, the authors throw you right in.

Mason Lockheart and four other shark shifters were born to follow in their father's footsteps to protect the secret of the sunken USS Kracken. He is a dominant man in work and play, not that there is time for play or a mate, until one woman gains his notice when she gets too close to the Kracken and their secret. Mason has decided after one taste, she is his, but she is not submissive, or so she thinks, but his high-handed ways are too much for her, and she runs, but he chases her, and the sparks fly.

Shiloh knows her mother didn't commit suicide; now, after her father's death means she needs to know the truth, and that truth lies with the USS Kracken.

The chemistry is hot and melt the sheets.

There are those who are power hungry and pull the strings along the way, and are downright evil; you just want to make them go away in a permanent way.

Since I've been reading novels about shifter/monster romance for a while, I never finished a book so quickly as I did when I came upon this one through a booktwt mutual.

To be completely honest, I was hoping for an actual SHARK X HUMAN  (something must be wrong with me), but instead, we get the hero dominating the heroine, or more accurately, pushing himself on her in an unwelcome manner, otherwise known as an assault and gaslighting, and obviously a war allusion.

I should also mention how wacky the heroine's father is with names.

All in all, it was unsatisfactory. The other smut was sort of okay but had issues, and I want my SHARK X HUMAN content so I think I'll try and read the rest. 𝑬𝑫𝑰𝑻: 𝐈 𝐍𝐎 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐀 𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐗 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍. 𝐈 𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐓, 𝐈 𝐍𝐎 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐈𝐓. 𝐈'𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧/𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐗 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧.

Delta James and Felicity Brandon have conspired to create a first-time read for me and it's amazing! 'Silent Predator' is the first book in their new series "Masters of the Deep". If you've read the blurb then you know Mason Lockheart is a decorated Navy SEAL. He's also a great white shark shifter. He and four other shark shifters, like their fathers before them, have the duty of patrolling and protecting the sunken USS Kracken from interlopers. It's a rather singular life between career and duty. Shiloh knows what she saw twenty years ago when those three masked men left her house. Her mother didn't commit suicide and she intends to prove it. All she needs to do is locate the USS Kracken and get the physical evidence to prove her mother's theory in order to do so. These two characters hare on a collision course from the very beginning. Both are strong personalities, both dedicated to what they believe is right. Of course, with these two authors, you know there's bound to be domestic discipline. Yeah, this was all determination then hot chemistry and explosive scenes along with a mystery trying to be solved, and then the sleaze-ball I didn't give a second thought about decided to show his hand. Now I'm wondering how he exactly fits into the picture. Just a side note of curiosity. Do sharks bite and convert their mates?? Interesting concept, don't you think?

I wasn’t sure about this one at first, a shark shifter? Boy was I surprised what a great read. Mason and Shiloh have quite the story to tell. She’s trying to prove her mother was murdered and maybe her father while Mason is sworn to protect the secrets of the Krachen. It’s a page turning ride as they try and get themselves figured out. Unfortunately this is a cliffhanger you need to keep reading the series to find out all the answers. Well worth the read!

I was very surprised to hear of this SHARK SHIFTER story. I've read quite a few shifter books, yet this was unique. Shiloh is on a mission to prove her mother's death was really a murder, not the suicide it was staged as. Mason is a decorated Navy Seal with a clandestine side job as one of the chosen apex predators assigned to patrol the deep sea resting place of the USS Kraken, the original ship that was mysteriously replaced by a decoy ship around WW 2. Mason is drawn to the marine scientist Shiloh as she dives deep in and around the Kraken in her submersible as she tries to prove the ship exists and was a part of the great mystery that caused her mother's death and maybe even her father's too. Mason, the Great White Shark shifter who along with 4 other shifters patrol the depths of the sea to protect the mysterious original Kraken that few know about. The attraction between Shiloh and Mason is strong and undeniable and their sex is hot with the dominant, controlling Mason and the equally feisty, strong, non-submissive Shiloh, who does seem to soften and submit to Mason once he turns on the heat. There are many exciting evens under the waves and the sheets. I am looking forward to the next story of another one of the shifters that patrol the deep, dark depths that contain the USS Kraken.

DNF at 50%……

Seriously what’s with all the 5 stars reviews??!! The male lead is just garbage and the female lead is a doormat.

I love alpha males in general but there is a line where an alpha male can be great or a complete asshat garbage.

This was my first book by this author and it’ll be my last. It’s such a shame because the plot is great. Never read anything with shark shifters before and I was so excited.

Shiloh Whitaker is determined to prove her mother had been correct in her theories. Years ago her mother was murdered to keep her silent and revealing facts that would have been embarrassing for the US government.
She heads out to the Sea of Cortez to look for the proof that can restore her mother's good name.
The night before taking off, she wanders into a local bar where she meets Commander Mason Lockheart, A Navy SEAL officer who hides a dark secret. Instantly attracted to one another they spend a night of passion but the next morning Shiloh takes off to start her mission. She's not expecting to meet Mason again, but she will encounter him in both his forms; the human one and the one he shifts to - a great white shark.
I have never read a shark shifter book before, and even though the concept sounded weird to me at first, the two talented authors make the story as good as any shifter story I previously read. I know and love Delta James' writing, I'm less familiar with Felicity Brandon's writing style. The authors had managed to combine each part of the story they wrote individually, seamlessly into one cohesive, excellent story. I have to admit there were parts where I wanted to kick Mason's butt for being so strict and harsh with Shiloh, he expected a lot from a person who has never been in D/s relationship and isn't submissive.
But Shiloh comes to terms with his demands, accepts them and finds peace and happiness by surrendering to him. So for me, as long as Shiloh is happy, I was willing to forgive him for being such a hard ass!
This book is a fun and steamy read and I'm looking forward to read the next installment in the series.

I liked parts of this story a lot. It has a unique concept and an compelling storyline. The lure of the kraken and the mystery of how the sharks that guard it became to be was very interesting even if I didn’t like that they tied it to Pearl Harbor. Personally just making it a covert mission during a war would of sat better with me then using something as tragic as Pearl Harbor in a fiction book. I found it very disrespectful to use something like that in a book like this. The other thing that I didn’t like about it was that Mason started out as a strong character and then once he gets with Shiloh he turns into every other Alpha dom out there that expects his women to not only be 100% submissive all the time but to follow rules she doesn’t get any say in and doesn’t know about until he thinks she broke them. There was a lot of tension between the two because of this lack of communication just like every other alpha romance out there. I am getting quite tired of reading books with the same tension like this between the main characters. And of course because of that miscommunication something bad always happens that would of been avoided if they just bothered to talk to each other like adults about their expectations and wants. I personally think the story would of been just as good if not better with out this cavemen style romance and just focused on the start of their relationship and the mystery of the kraken.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it will be my last. It only gets a 1 rating because I’m a huge shifter fan and I’ve never read anything with shark shifters.
The written description sounded like a winner, however, the description leaves out what the story is really about. Not once does it say anything about rape. Alpha male/hero in the Navy yes. The premise of the story would have been a great read if the rape, punishment in all kinds of different ways, and demeaning little girl attitude would have been left out. There’s all kinds of ways to make an alpha male/hero sexy without being a complete
(Jerk) is a nice word ….
In the beginning, the story is good. Mason is a shark shifter protector of the USS Kraken with 4 others. Shiloh has 3 degrees and loves treasure hunting. She is trying to prove her mother didn’t commit suicide by finding the sunken ship that Mason just happens to be protecting. They have a one night stand. Shiloh thinks she’ll never see him again. She encounters a shark with his eyes while in her mini sub. From there, the book changes into him punishing her for a variety of things. Finally in the end, he has to report back to work. Some how they profess their love to each other. She’s then assaulted by Mason’s shark boss. She ends up getting away and Zak (another shark protector) saves her. Mason has his sweet moments at the end, however, you’re so disgusted with how he acted during the whole story and how an educated grown woman can put up with it that it falls short of being anything but wrong.

I’ve been reading Felicity Brandon’s books for quite some time now, and she is most definitely one of my one-click authors. She’s that good at her craft. In this current story she teamed up with another author, not so well known by me, named Delta James, who has been quite a prolific writer in her own right. Their collaboration created some wonderful magic in the artful use of words.

Silent Predator is book one in a series of stand alone stories with interconnected characters. This is the story of Mason, a Navy Seal, and Shiloh, a marine scientist. Mason is guarding a very important secret buried in the depths of the Sea of Cortez, and Shiloh, for personal reasons of her own, is determined to unveil that secret. The story unfolds from there. And what a great story it is.

I’m not going to give away any of the plot simply because I want the reader to get the same experience I had. It’s quite an engaging read, one that held my interest from beginning to end. I loved these two characters, and I cared about what would happen to them on this perilous journey. Believe me when I say that these two authors have given us an exciting sea adventure, with wonderfully expressive characters, and an engaging plot line that will continue in more books to come.

I’ve never been disappointed in Ms. Brandon’s stories and now I have another author to explore, namely Delta James. Combining their creativity was a fantastic idea. Highly recommended.

This is the first book of a new series by Delta James and Felicity Brandon. They can be read as standalones, but where is the fun in that? Who would have thought about shark shifters??

Mason is a commander in the Navy and he has been tasked, with others, to protect the secrets of a ship that was sunk before WWII. Shiloh is a professor who is looking to find the truth about her mother's (and perhaps her father's as well) death. When the two of them meet up, it's explosive. Mason has never felt this way about a woman, but he knows that he wants her and everything can be worked out between them as he has no problem putting her across his knee. They do have their HEA and there is a sneak peek at the next book at the end.

I enjoyed reading about Mason and Shiloh. Their chemistry was lighting up the pages! I give this an enthusiastic two thumbs up! 👍👍 I received an advanced reader copy and this is my honest review.

I found Mason’s take control attitude and lack of empathy for what Shiloh might be feeling and dismissing what her wants are to be really off putting. Really didn’t like his character at all. There was no emotional connection between the two and Shiloh keeps calling him a bastard (which I agree with) but then when he shows up, she just gives in and let’s him do all those things to her without listening to a word she has to say except when he wants to know something. It was like well… 2 different authors wrote this book? The story was so disjointed, I just couldn’t like the one dimensional character Mason was. I wanted to know more about the sharks and their abilities and interactions but I think the only part I liked more was Zak’s kindness to Shiloh towards the end of the story. I don’t think Mason did anything to help her one bit at all.

I wasn’t sure that l was going to like this book, however, I’m so, so pleased that l downloaded it. It’s a fantastic story, full of mystery, intrigue, passion not to mention thrills. Mason is a Commander in the Navy and is one of five men tasked to protect a sunken sub! Shiloh is determined to investigate fully the mystery surrounding her mother’s apparent suicide when she was a child, and she knows that it has something to do with the submarine. The passion that exudes from Mason and Shiloh is evident from first meeting. Just loved this story and can’t wait for the 2nd book in the series.

I was very fortunate to receive an ARC in return for my review.

Get lost in the intrigue and suspense. Both of these authors are among my favorites, and they managed to blend their writing styles and create a gripping, suspenseful, and of course blazing tale that kept me glued to my Kindle while I devoured the story in one sitting. I never thought I would read about, much less enjoy, shark shifters but I should have known better with these ladies in charge. In fact, with this particular storyline, shark shifters were the perfect foil! Looking forward to the continuation of the series!

I definitely enjoyed reading this book but it took me a few chapters to really get into it. It is exciting with plenty of mystery and action. Lots and lots of hot sexy parts and some blazing hot chemistry between the characters. The storyline is different with some history included and shark shifters which was totally different from what I usually read. I definitely urge you to read this book and I am looking forward to the next book in this series!!

OMG!! what a fantastic book!! I loved that Delta James and Felicity Brandon wrote this together AND have planned a whole series in this setting!! I can’t wait for the next one! This was a different type of shifter romance than I have ever read. The characters were awesome! I felt like I was a fly on the wall, watching everything they said and did. This is an action packed, emotional, steamy wild story! I’m so happy that I got to read it!! It’s that Kind of book that just lets you slip out of reality for a few hours and uses your imagination to the fullest!! Needless to say I loved Shilo and Mason’s story! This is great stuff dear readers!!

I'm a huge fan of shifter stories. You know, wolves, bears, big cats, dragons but I never thought I would like a shark shifter! I don't like sharks but with this book, I think I could easily become a fan. Delta James and Felicity Brandon have teamed up to write Silent Predator and all I can say is wow! Mason is a shark shifter and military guy who is tasked (along with a few others) to protect a sunken ship that seems to hold secrets about WWII that some people don't want found. Shiloh is a professor but is leaving to see if she can figure out why her mother was killed years ago. This story, from the very start, pulled me in. The attention to historical detail was wonderful and the descriptions of Mason when he shifted was something I could easily picture in my mind. Will Mason be able to stop Shiloh from snooping around? Can he keep her safe? Oh, don't miss this book. If you love shifters, this is one that you will love!

Professor Whitaker or Shiloh was finishing up at the to go and explore her mothers theories. Her mother had lost her job years ago and was then killed to cover up her her work. She believed that a sub was sunk the three years later a new sub was used to cover the first sub and all records destroyed.
The Sea of Cortez and perhaps the San Bernardo de Calvo is where she was heading on her boat the Sea Siren and then then on to her other boat the Conundrum. Just before she leaves her sister phones to say her father has died by taking his own life. This Shiloh does not believe. She checked and collected her mail for the last time picked up her scuba gear and cooler box and boarded her boat. After she set sail and put it on auto pilot she looked at her mail and was surprised to find a letter from her father. He included her mothers file that had been hidden and a letter that he believed her mother and asked her to go for dinner when she got back. This doesn’t sound like someone ready to take their life.
She arrived in San Felipe and docks next to her converted fishing trawler which she had spent a fortune on to install all she would need. Schumacher called asking when she was leaving she didn’t know why but didn’t like him. She set her outer alarm and then her inner alarm and settled down watching what Schumacher was doing. This is just the start this is a great book that I cannot wait to read the next one. I received an ARC for an honest review which I have given.

I absolutely loved reading Silent Predator by Felicity Brandon and Delta James. It had such a unique twist to a shifter romance, I never read one about a shark shifter before. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I’m not a fan of sharks but this book had a compelling storyline and wonderful characters. I enjoyed reading about Mason and Shiloh love story and all they had to overcome to be together. When they meet sparks fly and Mason becomes protective of her once he realizes she’s his mate. This book had everything in it, action, adventure and an amazing love story. I can hardly wait to read the next book in the series.

I like the premis. The characters were interesting. I enjoyed the story until Mason showed his Apex (A$$hat) side. I understood Shiloh and her wanting to prove that her mother was murdered and to prove her mother's theory on the Kracken, but her acceptance of Mason's control went beyond anything I could enjoy. It seemed to be more of a master/slave situation as he controls everything and she was punished for everything - just not my cup of tea. The story ends abruptly with lots of loose ends that I guess will be answered in the coming books.. But no matter how much I enjoyed the actual story, I am not interested in reading any more Apex predators like Mason.

Brandon and James: a powerful writing duo!

I love how these writers got together!

Book one has proven that they can write a paranormal romance that will keep you glued to your reader!

A wonderful mystery that I expect will travel throughout the series!

Mason and Shiloh were very engaging. Especially Mason! Surprised!?

Love his dominance! His protectiveness! His prowess!

I will definitely be back for More!

Zak piqued my interest. And the glimpse into his story... can't wait!

Would prefer advance warning of the BDSM element

The opening chapter of this book had such promise of an excellent story, which is what I like. However, the leap into BDSM, which seemed more FSOG than Cherise Sinclair spoilt that early promise. A large part of this book was just the BDSM and not even anything new. The three stars are for the rest of the story. It was a good idea, but it could have been so much more.

This book started out as a firm 5 star read…but fell flat on its face introducing an over the top DOM that honestly was more abusive then caring.

I wanted to know more about her parents but I got an ending with more bs then I care for. I have the next book so we will see it it gets better 🤞

A very original shifter story - shark shifters - shifters we don't see a lot. A good collaboration of these two talented authors. Full of adventure, excitement, great characters and good steamy sex. The story is complete in itself - but there are four more different shark shifters each with his own story to be told. Thanks Delta and Felicity

Mary Whitaker has evidence that proves the FDR administration provoked and had previous knowledge of the attack on Pearl Harbour and orchestrated a massive cover up to hide their shame. Years later her daughter, Shiloh, is out to prove her mother did not commit suicide but was murdered and that the WWII ship Kraken was part of the government cover up of the truth behind the attack on Pearl Harbour. Shiloh, aka Cazadora de Trezores, leaves her career as a professor, makes her home on her sailboat, The Sea Siren and converted fish trawler, The Conundrum and heads for the Sea of Cortez.
Upon investigating an area of interest in finding the Karken, Shiloh discovers a contradiction and inconsistency in what she sees through the fish finder; five different sharks species that never intermingle or occupy the same waters. She is attacked by a Great White Shark which sends her skittering back to La Jolla for repairs. The Great White aka Mason Lockhart, a shifter, follows her.
Out for an evening of pool while waiting for the repairs to be completed she meets Mason and has an amazing one night stand. Leaving Mason without so much a by your leave and returning to the Sea of Cortes for further investigation leads Shiloh to an incredible find and dangerous adventure.
Mason and Shiloh are diametrically opposed in their goals. Mason’s entire life is to protect the secret of the Kaken as well as El Jardin Secreto, the clandestine city of sharks. Shiloh’s whole mission is to reveal the untold truth about Pearl Harbour as well as exploring the deep waters of the Sea of Cortez to her fullest ability.
This is a must read! An exhilarating plot with an unsolved mystery, a love/hate dynamic between Mason and Shiloh that is rousing and oh, so HOT.

An exciting and very different read by Delta, great characters and story plot riveting read

Shiloh is a professor who has always believed that the reports of her mother’s death when she was a child were not true, this is mainly because she had seen what happened run away. She is a now a qualified Professor and is going to put everything she has learned into use as she searches the sea for an unknown entity she believes is there.

As she sets off on her small boat with everything, she believes she will need to carry out her investigations, then out of the blue she was notified that her father had suddenly taken his own life which simply does not ring true as he had asked her to visit him on her return, surely if he had been going to take his life, he would not have asked this.

As she continues on her journey to her destination she meets Mason Lockhart, he has been charged with guarding a secret that his family has guarded for many, many years and now there is a chance that it could be discovered when the scientist and her submersible dives on a sea bed finding a creature with a mouthful of teeth, trying its best to ensure she stayed at the bottom with her secrets.

Shiloh has some very special about her and even though he knows that he has promised to guard the secret Mason also has to keep her safe as well and he may have to chose which is more important.

Read this breath-taking story it is a wonderful read.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.
