Ania est la princesse héritière du Royaume et elle ne croit pas à la légende, bien qu'elle soit la propre fille de la Reine aux pouvoirs magiques. Mais un jour elle découvre une épée dans des ruines... Serait-ce la fameuse épée de la légende? La Reine elle-même semble courroucée par cette découverte et envoie Ania aux confins du Royaume....

L'épée est un conte de fantasy aux couleurs chatoyantes et aux multiples rebondissements qui présente toutes les caractéristiques du genre : démons, combats, magie, si ce n'est que la quasi totalité des protagonistes sont des femmes et que l'héroïne, la princesse Ania au caractère bien trempé, n'a aucunement l'intention de tomber dans les filets d'un prince charmant.

J'ai trouvé ce roman graphique très très beau, j'avais envie de prendre chaque page en photo ! L'histoire est aussi sympa, mais j'ai trouvé les textes et dialogues un peu étranges, un peu déconnectés et sans émotions, je me demande si cela vient de la traduction ou si c'est fait exprès. En tout cas cela m'a empêché d'apprécier pleinement ce titre, mais je suis quand même contente de l'avoir lu, surtout pour sa richesse visuelle

Gorgeous art! 🤩 The whimsical and otherworldly style of the illustrations fits perfectly with the fantasy setting.

I really enjoyed the story, although I wish the comic had been double the length because being so short it felt a bit rushed. This type of story benefits from a slow pacing and an atmospheric and introspective approach. I also wish we would’ve gone deeper into the world building, because the bits we learned were really interesting.

Overall It's a beautiful and interesting graphic novel, I think the author did a great job telling a complex story in such few pages.

Estoy muy de acuerdo con el resto de reseñas. Lo que más valor aporta a este cómic es la parte gráfica y que tanto la reina como la princesa expresen deseo y amor por otras mujeres (aunque a mí me falto un beso!!!). Pero sí, la historia necesitaría más desarrollo a pesar de despertar reflexiones sobre temas interesantes como los relatos fundacionales de los pueblos, el colonialismo, el camino del héroe, la responsabilidad que conlleva el poder o si el pueblo tiene derecho al acceso a la magia (que puede extrapolarse a otras cosas)
He leído otros comics de la autora y este es sin duda el que más me ha gustado, ojalá saque muchos más!!!

this one had one of the most unique art styles i've EVER seen in a graphic novel and that immediately hooked me in. i was a huge fan of the vibrant color palette used, too! also, the characters were intriguing and the story had depth.

however, oh how i wish it was longer !! there was a lot more to unpack imo

lastly, i *have* to mention that there are a couple of graphic scenes throughout the story and, considering this book is mostly addressed to older children and teens, i felt the need to give y'all a heads up.

"you can't control the way people respect you"

this felt like an Adventure Time episode featuring Prismo where like they're speaking facts even if you can't totally connect where the story is trying to go and the art style was so funky which I thought worked really well for the setting but not for the character designs. I also felt this moved suuuuuuper slowly which didn't help with trying to understand the story

Je dirai 3.5. L'histoire n'est pas mauvaise mais je l'ai trouvée pas assez expliquée, les bases sont posées hâtivement et on a du mal après à tout suivre (ou alors c'est moi) ! J'ai bien apprécié la représentation LGBTQIA et j'ai ADORÉ les dessins, les couleurs, c'est un univers magnifique à regarder. Je la relirai peut-être pour voir si j'arrive à mieux comprendre ....

L'art est beau et les couleurs sont sublimes!! Malheureusement je n'ai pas été vendue par l'histoire; j'avais l'impression que les événements n'étaient pas tellement connectées, aucun perso m'a semblé attachant, et les motivations de chacun ne m'ont pas convaincue. Cependant je comprends qu"explorer ces éléments est difficile à faire dans seulement un tome. Je crois que mon plus gros "problème" avec L'épée ce que tout est raconté mais peu est réellement montré, ce qu'est dommage. Le support visuel n'est pas utilisé comme un outil supplémentaire pour raconter l'histoire (je trouve - ceci reste que mon avis ^^), les dessins nous montrent seulement ce qui a été dit dans le texte ce que j'ai trouvé dommage. Mais ceci à a voir avec mes attentes pour ce genre de lectures, donc grande chance que ne dérange pas à d'autres !! L'histoire en soi est chouette donc si ça vous tente allez y ^^

I loved the unique art style and the vibrant colors even if the story was resolving without much explanation.

We follow a princess, who's the sole inheritor of the crown and the queen's magicc, yet she doesn't want either and she keeps trying to find a way to bring back the hero of their folk tales who will be able to give magic to everyone instead of it being only in the hand of the few.

I could see it as a cartoon and I would love to see it animated.

les couleurs sont superbes, c'est ce qui m'a fait emprunter cette bd à la bibli (en plus de la vibe soft-mimi-queer qui s'en dégage)

l'intrigue est très classique et on reste en surface, c'est dommage, ce truc du partage de la magie et du pouvoir, des trahisons qui en découlent, aurait pu être creusé et devenir un solide fil rouge

les personnages sont très peu expressifs, semblent figés, et l'écriture des dialogues peine à me convaincre (ohlala qu'est-ce que je peux être rude ???)

bon tout de même, il faut le dire, bravo les lesbiennes

Les dessins sont vraiment incroyable, le style et les couleurs sont magnifiques et je pense que c’est le plus gros point fort de cette BD (c’est aussi la raison pour laquelle je l’ai achetée). L’histoire est très cool mais il y a quand même quelques défauts, je trouve que ça allait un peu trop vite et que rien n’était assez développé, on a pas le temps de s’attacher aux personnages et les dialogues sont un peu vide d’émotions, donc heureusement que l’aspect visuel sauve tout. Mais à part ça c’est trop mimi et y’a des lesbiennes <3

Gráficamente me parece una absoluta maravilla, tiene páginas que son para imprimirlas en formato lámina y colgarlas en la pared. La historia en si es interesante, con amor sáfico y fantasía a raudales 💕pero creo que los diálogos a veces son demasiado obvios o, simplemente, sobran (en mi opinión).

El diseño y los elementos visuales son preciosos; junto con la representación de diferentes identidades (implícitamente) son mis elementos favoritos de la historia.

La trama en sí misma no me parece grandiosa, me queda una sensación de potencial no explotado. Esto puede tener que ver con poca profundidad en los personajes y sus desiciones, lo que hace que algunas se sientan arbitrarias.

It was very pretty and had some cool elements but also certain parts had me flipping back seeing if I missed a page. Story was a little difficult to follow and the pacing was off. Gorgeous art though

A hidden gem.

Didn’t expect the inside to be in the same beautiful colorful art as the cover! Surely is a very unique artstyle and quite mesmerizing to look at. The color palette as well as the designs are just hypnotic and fit the vibe of the world so well! Even though it plays around the Middle Ages, there’s something modern about it (not taking about the sci-fi aspect, just the way they dress, talk and all), and the art enhances that well. 5/5 stars for that alone.

While there’s no romance as the main plot, there’s a lot of queer casualty & subtext. For example, it was kind of implied that two women can have biological kids (because magic?). Or that adoption is just as normal. The queen at least is bi/pan/poly, completely open about it, and no one cares about Ania’s little romance with her best friend Elisa either. They were so cute together (and I’m proud of my gaydar for having shipped them since the first page XP). No labels, completely normal.

The characters are all really interesting and serve their purpose, but sometimes fell a little flat. Most have only one goal, and while they also have flaws, it’s all stereotypical, not in-depth. Although the main characters had some development, they too don’t feel that whole.
I suppose that also has a lot to do with the length and pacing. It starts very slow, takes its time with slice of life and spends many pages following Ania’s daily idle life (which I didn’t mind, I love that trope!). But then in the 2nd half suddenly realizes that the end is nigh, that maybe the publisher doesn’t want more than 200 pages or so, that it needs to be rounded up now. While the ending is quite self-explainable, I found it a bit too rushed, a bit too open in some cases.

I genuinely hope there’ll be a sequel, because there is so much potential for more. (Especially regarding the cute sapphics. I mean, let me quote them: “And the end of the world with you doesn’t sound like a bad plan.” <3)

What I also found interesting was the Spain ‘versus’ Ireland. It wasn’t labeled as such, but the southern queendom looks a lot inspired by Spanish culture (and the artist is Spanish), whereas the northern kingdom seems Irish. Plus some asian-like cultures mixed in both lands. Not a combination I’ve seen before, especially cause northern kingdoms are usually always Vikings. A cool world-building aspect I would’ve wished to dive in more...

Overall I enjoyed the read a lot though, and definitely recommend it to fantasy and sci-fi fans alike! And especially if you love slice of life with a bit of action!
(Some other reviewers have said that it’s not suitable for teens, but I disagree. There may be bits of blood, but nothing worse than Disney’s 20th Century animation movies. I’d set the suitable age to 12 or even younger.)

La parte visual es tan arrolladora y mágica que es un personaje más en sí mismo de esta historia. Tal vez su mayor protagonista, el más complejo y emotivo.

La historia en sí es imaginativa, con elementos muy originales y con la clara y acertada poética de la epicidad del viaje del héroe, con tintes de género. Tal vez las partes de acción son un poco estáticas para esta epopeya de princesas y alienígenas. Y aunque la historia tiene un buen final, a ratos sentí que le faltaba algo para explotar el enorme universo de posibilidades dónde se construye.

Muy recomendable si eres amante de los cuentos épicos y la ciencia ficción. Bellísima la parte visual.

Loved the colors and the graphic thechnique of this book, one of the best I’ve read lately!

I also appreciated that it’s made of several pages, that stands for a lot of drawings, so it last for more than 1 hour of lecture.

Also liked the fact that the plot implies aliens and ruins. Personal taste.

I didn’t give it 5/5 stars because of the dialogs and the fact that I find it difficult to relate to the human characters, maybe because they always seems kinda aloof?

J’ai mis 2 car c’est la moyenne de 3 pour les dessins, que j’ai beaucoup aimé.
Et de 1 pour le récit qui est bizarre pour moi.
Il y a pleins de passages soit trop lent soit trop court. Des choses pas expliquées ou des problèmes qui se résolvent trop facilement.
Il y a un combat pour lequel il y a casi pas d’action.
J’ai des déceptions au niveau du découpage.

Lecture décevante car le livre apparaît comme charmant mais rien n’est vraiment approfondi et du coup la déception n’en est que plus grande…

Un cómic precioso a nivel estético pero algo débil en lo que al desarrollo de trama se refiere.

Podemos percibir atracción sáfica, poderío femenino y escenas extrañas a la par que inquietantes. Coincido con otros lectores en que la historia podría haberse profundizado algo más. No se, al final acabas con una visión muy superficial del relato.

Sin embargo, he de reconocer que ha sido un placer leerlo porque era una fantasía de bonito

A magical fantasy tale in graphic novel form.
The positives for me were the background/ landscape artwork was gorgeous, with the most fabulous colour choices.
The negatives were that I didn't really understand what was happening a lot of the time, and for a short book I was often bored.
