What readers are saying about The Hollywoodland Mystery series:
"Macdonald does a great job in his setting of 1940s Hollywood and his creation of a beautifully pulpy old-fashioned noir novel." Goodreads Reviewer, five stars
This latest book from author A. G. Macdonald combines his love of movies and books into one classic mystery love letter to the Hollywood of yesteryear. His debut novel, Cinderella: Dead at 25! was inspired by his love of classic Hollywood films like Sunset Boulevard, Casablanca, and The Thin Man.
A G Macdonald writes his novels because he couldn't imagine a world where he didn't. His dark books explore corners of the world where others may not tread, with surreal imagery and cryptic literary puzzles just waiting for readers to piece together.
An unputdownable mystery Thanks to the title “Red Wolves: A Holliwoodland Mystery” author A. G. Macdonald is fairly compared with well-known celebrities such as Agatha Christie and James Ellroy. The book is intriguing, motivating and shocking. I started reading it and I realized it was not the first of the series. Although I highly recommend future readers not to follow my steps, it was possible for me to understand the plot and get to know the characters. I could not empathise with the main character, an ex pilot called Rex Home, perhaps because I saw him as a distant but clever character. However, I had fun reading this detective story and for this reason I give it three stars.
Being the fourth installment in the Hollywoodland Mysteries, Red Wolves is a very good read that captured my attention as soon as I read the description of its plot. This is certainly the perfect reading for those who are fans of mysteries - of good mysteries in fact. The book has an interesting mixture of narrative and films; the author was able to mix those two things and have a great result in it. I would recommend this reading because it is a page-turner and unputdownable; also, its setting is well achieved and its characters are completely developed with a good background story. A solid read without a doubt.
This was an entertaining detective mystery story. I certainly like mysteries and was convinced by the one presented in this book. I think the author did a very good job with the plot and its development. I must admit that I found some parts to be a bit slow so I think the pace can be improved and also the story shorter. Anyways, I liked the story and how characters were built. I would read more books by author A. G. Macdonald. Red Wolves: A HOLLYWOODLAND Mystery was a good reading to pass the time. It is entertaining.
