After recovering her memories at great personal cost, Quinn MacKenna finds herself reliving those moments she thought lost forever. What she could not know, however, was that doing so would not only expose the brutal truths behind her very existence but entangle her in the lives of so many others—a list that includes notorious figures with surnames like Temple, Solomon, and Ambrosius.
Forced to leap through time and space with a mysterious companion in tow and a truly terrifying spell on her heels, Quinn has no choice but to play the part she was always meant to play—even if that means lying to her closest friends, trading away her every advantage, and sacrificing everything she holds dear. In doing so, however, Quinn will encounter unprecedented, mind-blowing revelations the likes of which no one could have possibly foreseen.
Well, almost no one.
Suffice it to say, if you've come looking for answers to some of the Templeverse's most compelling questions and insight into some of its most intriguing characters, look no further than the newest installment of the Phantom Queen Diaries.
Let's cut to the chase. You read stuff. I write stuff. So, If you want to nab a few of my free Amazon Best Selling Urban Fantasy books to test the waters, go here: http://www.shaynesilvers.com
Now, let's talk about this specimen of a man named Shayne...
Shayne Silvers writes the "Nate Temple Series" which features a foul-mouthed, flawed, young wizard with a chip on his shoulder attempting to protect St. Louis from the various nasties we all know and fear from our childhood bedtime stories.
Nate's been known to suckerpunch an Angel, cow-tip the Minotaur, and steal Death's horse in order to prove his point. His utter disregard for consequences and self-preservation will have you laughing and cringing on the edge of your seat.
But he has a lot to learn. Namely, how not to be so big of an A-Hole.
Shayne holds two high-ranking black belts, and enjoys conversing about anything Marvel, Magical, or Mythological. You might find him writing in a coffee shop near you, cackling madly into his computer screen while pounding shots of espresso.
Each book in the Phantom Queen Diaries series just gets better and better. Quinn is on a journey like none she's ever taken before. She's learning more and more about herself, and watching her learn is such a trip! I love joining her as she goes through her discovery process, listening to her struggle with understanding what is happening to her and why. I have always identified with Quinn more than any other characters in the Templeverse, and Snakebite just makes that even clearer to me. She has a mouth on her that is such fun, and watching her have to tone it down with each side trip she takes is funnier than ever.
Eventually, Quinn will know for certain where her most basic roots come from, even deeper than knowing who her parents are, and once she realizes her place in this world, she will be a force to be reckoned with. I have a feeling that between Nate and Quinn, great things are afoot. As always, we were left with more questions than answers, but this journey was one for the records. Time takes on a whole new meaning here, and Quinn is experiencing it like never before.
I had such fun reading this. And one of my biggest joys is watching an author grow from their first book that's really good to a book like Snakebite with is phenomenal. I can't wait for the next one! Cameron O'Connell, you are definitely giving Shayne a run for his money! And without Quinn, I have no doubt the Templeverse would not feel complete.
Absolutely incredible job, Cameron O'Connell! Excellent job, indeed! There is no question in my mind that Quinn has become my favorite! What a character!
Book 13 in the Phantom Queen Diaries, SNAKEBITE, by the dream team of Shayne Silvers and Cameron O'Connell, is narrated by (the initially unnamed) MC, Quinn MacKenna.
After receiving a mysterious box containing a dessicated snake, she gets the eponymous bite, that changes her life completely. Teleported on a magical rollercoaster of an adventure through time and space, by a vaguely familiar figure she calls Veil, Quinn encounters mythical and historically legendary beings, and intervenes positively in a variety of incredible, fantastic situations. Who's Matthias? What's he do with her help?
With a riveting denouement worthy of the Nate Temple universe, you're guaranteed to enjoy reading this brilliant mystery with its supernatural twists and turns, and learning more about Quinn's background, how she, Nate and other friends meet, and their relationships going forward. Whip yourself up a Gateway and teleport straight to the nearest bookstore for a copy today...you know you want to!
FATE WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS. AND SOMETIMES, SHE NEEDS A HELPING HAND. How do I tell you about Snake Bite without fangirling all the usual superlatives, like 'amazing!' 'mind blowing!' 'heart-wrenching' ? Well, all that applies, of course. Snake Bite is MORE. It's a veritable data-dump of information, answering questions and adding context to events all the way back to Obsidian Son - ten years ago. It's 'dense', to borrow a term. Not all your questions will be answered, because what would be the fun in that? But, dayum! And poor Quinn learns truths unguessed-at, including about herself. The sheer amount of work put into Snake Bite has me in awe of our authormonkeys' skills, but note I haven't tagged them; they'll get head-swelling praise up the wazoo with this one as it is. Snake Bite is a quantum leap into a revelatory Cuisinart set on frappeé. I'm still dizzy!
First Shayne book to disappoint me. Like almost all the strong positive characters, I enjoyed Quinn. In recent stories she became less a protagonist and more simply reactive to the environment around here, the bad ass was fading. In this book, to me, she became a minor character who's only purpose was the support the overall Temple saga.
FREAKS OF THE TEMPLEVERSE ARE GOING TO FLIPPIN' FREAK OUT!!!
COME SINK YOUR FANGS INTO SNAKEBITE! IT'S VEMON (Designed Within The Hallowed Walls Of Grimm Tech) WILL HAVE YOU ADDICTED 4 LIFE!! BETTER THAN ANY DRUG!!!
Silvers & O'Connell, Argento's Dynamic Dyad Roll the dice & everything's coming up Snake Eyes?= Fang Bites?= SnakeBite! • • • • • •
Silvers & O'Connell's stupendous Odyssey culminates in many unanswered questions from the series' finally being answered & some that weren't even asked; Answered. And it's gonna blow your Freakin' mind totally away!
While this is Silvers series set in his infamous Templeverse & he approves it all, he gives O'Connell outlines for where the series are headed, the authors then brainstorm hashing it out together, but Cam is the one that puts pen to paper or text to screen.
Cameron O'Connell is one of the best writers I know & read on a regular basis! Honestly I'd read anything he writes, but how he wrote the book of his life while his wife was pregnant, they moved acorss the other side of the world, their 1st child was born, being totally sleep deprived & writing this, is beyond me! Cam, all I can say is the passion for you family has peaked through to the pages of your 1st child Quinn McKenna & it truly shows. This is, by far the best Phantom Queen Diaries book you've ever written! And talk about terrific editing, you are one of 2 authors I rarely find typos in. Just 2. Such a pleasure to read. No stop starting of reading a book to record them 4 the author. I just love it!
This book was almost impossible to put down & for one that is continually jumping back in time & forwards & into other worlds, You Excelled! Often these type of books fail as they become confusing. Many authors don't make it clearly definable which time is which, but this was simple perfection, even for someone who has not yet read the early Phantom Queen Diaries books yet (I was concerned it would not make sense or even spoil special events from these earlier books), but it did nothing of the sort. Now I truly feel I understand Quinn better, where's she's been, what she's been through & why she is the way she is.
I RATE SNAKEBITE 6☆ out of 5☆!
I highly recommend this book, series & authors. Run out & buy their books today, you won't regret, Happy Reading, you're about to start a long, incredibly fantastic fantasy forey for Freaks written by Freaks!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and also purchase a copy & this is my fair, honest and impartial review as always.

Since the very 1st book in the Phantom Queen Diaries I have been hooked. Watching the evolution of Quinn through each book adventure and seeing how with each new book the author surpasses himself.
With Snakebite he has really outdone himself crafting this wonderful book.
When it comes to books the ones I enjoy best are the ones with characters that are crafted and spelled into being to be realistic identifiable and relatable in their nature actions ect that sometimes reflect our vices and virtues.
Books need to have heart, stories that are captivating that draw you in like a stranger may welcome unexpected guests seeking shelter from a storm that you can tell the authors write because they have a joy in writing their hardwork research and dedication reflected within the pages they willing give their energy to as part of it's forging.
Books that make you think they may guide you down paths and thoughts you hadn't tread before or revist past one's seen from a different perspective some books change you or reaffirm something that may have slipped from your memory. Such books stay within your minds eye in exchange of a small sacrifice of time willingly given by the bibliophiles who truly appreciate the authors who can create such books.
I really can't wait to see how the author surpasses himself creating Quinn's next adventure.
In Snakebite, book 13 of the Phantom Queen Diaries, Quinn Mackenna finds out who she really is.
Having offered an eye at Mimir’s Well in exchange for her lost memories, Quinn is dragged through time and space to select moments in her past where she was pivotal in ensuring that various things that happened in various parts of the Templeverse, and that needed to happen, acutally did happen.
During her travels, she seems to assume the appearance of other people from one scene to another. She offers aid and advice, carries messages, and receives and passes out magical artifacts (many of which we have seen before). So many mysteries are explained here.
There is somewhat less snark and witty banter than in most of the earlier books. Not that Quinn doesn’t try but being disguised as someone else most of the time seems to make it less advisable than usual, not to mention that most of the people she encounters are in the midst of some frightfully dangerous situation and likely wouldn’t react very well to humor. That or, like Starlight, the mystic hippie bear, they barely notice Quinn anyway.
This is going to be a hard act to follow for Quinn.
"When they love, mortals love with a ferocity the gods cannot match. This is perhaps why the gods so often deal in vengeance and spite; those are emotions that can be held onto. That can grow without being nurtured. Even the shallowest love can become hate if left unattended." - Quinn McKenna
Imagine, if you will, being tossed hither and yon, with no idea why or how to end the insanity... Then you discover the reason why, and all your protests die unspoken... Where every choice, even a non choice, has consequences...
“When the Dark Horse has been summoned and the Throne of Heaven sits empty…when the Watchers are no longer content to watch and the Pale Rider himself succumbs to Despair…when those below look up with Hope in their eyes and those above quake in fear…the Alpha and the Omega will be reforged in a furnace beneath the world. But first, the spell become flesh must be cast, a Maker must break his vow, and a child must be sacrificed. Otherwise, the rose will never bloom, the temple will crumble as though it never stood, and ashes shall become our sole birthright.” - Matthias
Another engaging installment replete with twists, turns, and revelations for Quinn, though of a much more melancholy and dour nature in regards to the biggest ones. Quinn's sense of self has always been one of her stronger points, and I've reflected in prior books that the most dis-engaging showings for her have been those in which she loses her sense of agency and identity for the needs of the plot at hand. This both is, and isn't the case with Snakebite, as the driving force behind her decision making and responses to things that occur around her are very much in line with her character and sense of self, but also shows that she is very much a product of her circumstances and the decisions made by others, whether focused on her own life, or the events of the coming storm that threatens the mortal world. By the end, she feels very much in a position of a clean slate, of certain threads unraveled and others woven into a completed tapestry.
Overall, the book manages to hit on several distinct changes for Quinn, and leaves more room for new development to come rather than leaving older plot points simmering further. As always, I look forward to what comes next.
This is the most exciting Quinn book to date. I was in the rehab hospital when I read this, and I often resented doing my physical and occupational therapy because it took me away from the book. It was good for therapy when I finished!
Quinn is on a high adventure that starts with a creepy snake and its bite. With only a figure she calls Veil, Quinn is whisked to moments in the past that are significant in history of the Freaks. What Quinn learns about herself and others can change the course of history because Quinn will always do what she thinks is right.
The story is masterfully told by wizards of the word. I will pick a Shayne Solvers or Cameron O’Connell book as first on my list every time. Come into the Templeverse and let it sweep you away. The books can be read individually, but it’s so much more satisfying to start at the beginning with Obsidian Son.
Well, I’m speechless. I just finished this book, and there are so many things to say, and I can’t because I don’t want to give away anything. This book is a wild ride, just like this author has done with every book I’ve read by him. So many things are explained in this one, I wish I could remember everything (every single book) I’ve read in the Templeverse so I could put the pieces I’ve forgotten together. Just the ones I remember are blowing my mind. This is like the beginning of the end, and I have a feeling from here on out, things are going to get explosive in both a literal and a figurative sense. Run, don’t walk, to pick up this book. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I feel like I should write a review, but after reading this I’m not sure how. Anything I could write about Snakebite: Phantom Queen would be a spoiler. That being said, the Templeverse has been filled with holes, redundancies and more characters than I can remember.
My proposal to new readers is follow the author’s suggested reading order. This list chronologically merges the three series (Nate Temple, Feathers and Fire and Phantom Queen) including the novellas. At the simultaneous end of three story arcs it will all make sense.
Shayne Silvers must have mapped this universe with overlapping characters, conflicts, deities, Freaks and Temples years ago on the greatest flowchart ever. I am in a state of awe.
Wow, this story captured my attention in the beginning, and kept me turning page after page. I had to know what was happening next! It all begins with a package Quinn discovered and once it’s opened sends her whirling through space and time. Ohhhh….the secrets that are revealed are amazing! I loved this book and the crazy, unpredictable, and wild roller coaster of a ride this book took me on! This book is action-packed is filled with danger, death, Dark Horse spell, time, magic, Nephilim, Faelings, Temples, Makers, mystery, war, suspense, battles, history, secrets, sacrifice, prophecy, Jormungandr, wizards, Mimir’s Well, humor, a gift, and so much more!
Honestly!!! Every flipping book I say the exact same thing (say/scream same thing with these guys) CLIFFHANGER!!! If you are a templeverse reader then you'll understand, If you aren't... Why aren't you? I mean who doesn't love a good whirlwind mixed with a fairground ride, with a smidge of absinthe? The templeverse will make you cackle maniacally on public transport, get crazily excited at lil 'Easter eggs'/nods to fellow author's/cult movie references, make you feel extreme happiness & most likely ugly cry... Action, adventure, myths, magic & everything inbetween
I was excited when this book came out because I was hoping it was better than the last book in this series, but sadly I was disappointed. I have read books before that are pretty much stories within stories and sometimes a little confusing but they usually come together well at the end. This book unfortunately was not like this. It was very confusing from the beginning all the way until the end and it didn’t seem to come together at the end either. There were lots of little snatches of stories within a story in this book that didn’t make any sense and didn’t come together at all at the end. Quinn wasn’t the only one in this book that was confused about her journeys and why she was there. The only reason I did not give this book a two star rating is because I like Shayne Silvers books too much to give him such a poor rating.
Oh Boy!!!!! We are Quantum Leaping!!! Were you a lover of Quantum Leap when Sam would jump into people's bodies and fix their lives?? And every new life when he saw himself was an Oh Boy moment. Quinn is leaping from time to time, place to place and filling so many of the holes in stories as to "How did that get there?" "Why did that happen?". It is a ride you need to hold onto your lives, or all her lives for!! You have got to read this book!! I believe it's the best in the Phantom Queen books Lucky 13!! Gamble on Lucky 13 and you won't be disappointed!! Oh Boy!!
Being from Boston I love this series and Quinn! And that it links with the Nate temple series is one of the reasons,if you haven't read the temple series you are missing out! Shayne silvers the author makes you laugh cry and want to throw my kindle at him! Quinn is full of snark and a badass ,Cameron and Shayne are a match made in heaven and I really would love to live there in the templeverse! I'm part of his den on FB . Just saying I hate cliff hangers so when is the next one coming out!!!!
The dynamic writing of Cameron O'Connell and Shayne Silvers takes you on a wild whirlwind ride. Quinn McKenna finally makes it back home. Only to find memories, mail and a mysterious package. The bite of the shriveled snake sends her on a journey through time. At each stop she learns something new. Many times only to confuse her. Or tickle the edges of a memory. So many Easter eggs are given or hinted at throughout this book that give answers to many questions in the Templeverse world. Get your copy now. You will love and hate it.
Reading this book was an ahhh experience. Not only were there some mind blowing revelations but there are a few ‘what just happened’ moments ( of course). This was written by the Selfie Kings. This actually does give a little insight into actions taken before the series commenced. I truly think this was masterfully written. Lots of well written segues from experience to experience. Incredibly well done, it was a pleasure to read this.
Brilliant! This latest book in the Phantom Queen series really brings into focus many events within the Templeverse world. Gripping and enthralling novel that completely consumed me throughout, Quinn's personality shone through, however this is a journey that truly shows her who she is. Great writing from this author and between them Cameron and Shayne have created an awesome and exciting world that will be enjoyed by any fan of fantasy fiction, I can't wait to see where we go next.
"When they love, mortals love with a ferocity the gods cannot match. This is perhaps why the gods deal so often in vengeance and spite. Those are emotions that can be held onto, that can grow without being nurtured. Even the shallowest love can become hate if unattended." Snakebite
"Do you think that organ donors who become zombies can feel they're missing parts?" Snakebite
Traveling through time and space , a la Dr Who, Quinn is bestowing different things to different people from her own history while trying to stay ahead of a storm of epic proportions, all with a stow away! She doesn't know why she is on this journey, only that she must stay ahead of the storm until she gets to the end. Its quite a ride, cathartic in it's own way. An interesting read.
I am honestly not sure how I feel about Snakebite. The story is masterfully told with all of the different threads woven into a story that's going to have you wanting to smack the writers. Quinn has grown a matured so much over the past several installments of her story. I can and do highly recommend Snakebite. It leave the reader demanding more!
Shayne and Cameron just took me for yet another mind blowing, heart lurching, questions answered and bring up more question adventure. So many things learned about Quinn and the Templeverse in this book. I've felt a little bit disconnected from Quinn for a short while but this book definitely makes you feel for her. I can't wait to see what happens next.
While the concept of this book is unique, the actual writing seems to be a lazy man's way of going about it. Writing chapters about things you've already written about in the past, even though she is there at every significant branches of other books she is there as different characters. There was a hint as to who Veil was but I haven't figured that out yet. The last chapter wasn't a temple verse bombshell as usually is. Not quite mind blowing. Next question is the Omega War good, bad, or just is?
I can't believe it's over. This ride filled in blanks and added so many more. I couldn't pull away. No good stopping points for you know breathing, sleeping or eating. It was that good. This universe makes my heart happy while simultaneously being ripped apart at the seams by these authors words. Amazing 👏 now Mush, mush get us more ASAP!
This book answers so many questions about Quinn while leaving me eager to read where her story goes from here. It contains plot twists I never saw coming, links itself to other pivotal events in the series and leaves me yearning for more. Everything one could expect from Shayne Silvers.
Answers many questions on the trilogy. Raises so many more! Another rollercoaster of a ride for Cameron and Shayne. Absolutely recomend. If you haven't started, do get Obsidian son, join the madness.
This book has done a great job of giving answers to questions you didn't even know you had. Then leaves you reeling with even more. The next book in the series cannot come out soon enough. Love it!
