Unfortunately I didn't find this book written well. The premise sounded interesting but the delivery of it wasn't there. Everything just happened too quickly and found it very jarring. There was no flow and no development of characters. It all just 'happened'. Scenes weren't set up at all. There was a scene that Ellie was training but just describing it as a 'drill'. Is it running, weights, star jumps, flopping like a fish out of water? Like what?

DNF @41% the writing is very juvenile and disjointed. Everything happening with the MC happened so quickly. There was no tension. I think the author had a checklist of things they wanted to include and tried to check them off without any sort of well thought out plan. Nothing about this book is groundbreaking. It’s a recycled story we’ve all read before.

DNF- The first 2 chapters seemed to start off great, but got to Chapter 9 and felt this book is very juvenile for my taste. The Fae King is super soft, to be a so called feared king. The FMC definitely didn’t have lick of fear of the King or this new realm she was thrown in. I wanted to like it that’s why I pushed to chapter 9, but just not for me.

an okay speed read - spoilers ahead!
Not only did this novel have the dreaded phrase “I released a breath I didn’t realize I was holding” twice, it also had a lot of back and forth on what was going on.
For example, at the start she is invited to join the elite guard but then a few pages later is surprised when her maid tells her she’s to be part of the elite guard.
This happens again with the bond she has with the king. She constantly mentions it but then says their bond only occurred after they slept together.
Overall, it feels mostly like a first draft but could have potential with some more development.

Story line seems promising, until you meet the main character and realize that she actually has ZERO personality.
Then you meet the king and think "yesss dark and mysterious" so that one star is for the king and the king alone.
AND THE FACT THE HUMAN GOT MAGIC AFTER SLEEPING WITH THE KING?? I can't, I had to dnf. I'm 80% of the way through and I literally cannot finish it. I will not be reading the rest of the books in this series.
Definitely read if you love a confusing story line, mediocre characters, 1 decent (not great) spicy scene, and the dumbest twist ever.

The story line in this book is very different and intriguing. Ellie is a human and suddenly finds herself before the Fae King accused with murdering his father. That makes no sense since she doesn’t have that kind of power to be a threat. Will they kill her outright for the crime she did not commit? Has she been set up by someone else? Can Ren, the new King, search for the true story here? And will Ellie find out that maybe she isn’t as human as she had thought?

I liked this book. I had a feeling Lucia and Zander were working together. I was surprised that Lucia was able to put a spell on Ren and Nayla. I thought she was going to be a fae, but she is a human that has fae magic. I can’t believe that Lucia’s parents are going to go to war over her death, maybe they are using conjurite magic too? What is the prophecy?

Is she human or something more🤔
This book was a great start to the Fate of the Fae series. I love Ellie’s personality and her, “I don’t give a shit” attitude but she’s like waaayy too hard on herself. And why is she constantly calling herself a human when it’s obvious to almost everyone that her bloodline has very powerful Fae dna 🧬 as well, I mean, from how I see this book’s plot unraveling, I’d dare to venture she’s most likely not human at all.🤷🏻♀️
There were honestly some scenes that made absolutely no logical sense lol 😆 like if the the priestess Nylah is so all knowing, why can’t she sense what Ellie’s dna truly is consisted of?🤔and wtf did that psycho she-devil, Lucia get away with all the shit she did?
Plus her evil parents? I mean, everyone is blaming poor Ellie for EVERYTHING when they should probably learn manners and respect for her and Ren because I’m pretty sure, Ellie comes from royal blood somehow and how these idiots are treating them should be treasonous going against their king and future queen.
Why is it dragged out what Ellie is? Like damn give us more detailed clues at least.🙄 Also, why has almost everyone Ellie has ever known been so mean, abusive, and murderous to her? I’m really hoping Ren and Ellie get their HEA but I don’t know, i see nothing but drama and more drama🎭👀😆I’ll still read the next books, but I’m hoping they improve from this initial reading.

I just finished this book that is on Kindle Unlimited. And I really enjoyed it. There were some parts of it that seemed a little like all the other fantasy romances out there but it is still well worth the read. I am excited to continue the story to see what happens.
Ellie is a human in a fae world. The fae literally run the world and Kingdom. And humans are considered the lesser species and a lot of the fae have made humans their slaves.
Ellie is just trying to survive in this world by working at a tavern to earn food and a place to sleep. There are nights though that her boss will not feed her because of her actions or because of someone else's actions. One night after a long day of hard work, her boss sent her to bed with no food again. When she was up in her loft area above the kitchen trying to sleep, she heard noises coming from in the kitchen. She new that her boss would blame her for any missing food or anything for that matter. So she goes down to check it out. While she is down there. Something knocks her out.
Then she wakes up in a cell. But she doesn't feel like her self. Something is off. Then gaurds come in and take her out of the cell. They are fae and have her bound by magic so she can't escape. She is telling them that this is a mistake and she shouldn't be there. But they aren't listening and her voice isn't her own. When they walk her past something that has reflection to it, she looks in it only to see that she is not herself but a large man.
She soon gets thrown into an arena where the King, Rainier, is sitting with his fiance. She again tries to tell him that she is not the man before him but he wouldn't take her excuses. He then let's a beast loose for her to fight...will she win this fight? What will happen? You will have to read the book to find out.
This book is a great read. And has a lot of potential. I have a feeling that it will be a great story and series! I give this book a ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ out of 5 stars.

I started this series and finished it in one day. Granted, I had 16 hours to do so, and the books weren’t very long. The world building I would rate 5/10. It was simple but engaging enough to keep me interested. As this is a self published book, there were minor grammatical errors that sometimes took me out of my minds eye and reminded me I’m reading a book, but I can overlook that. The characters are what made me keep reading along with the storyline. I absolutely loved how Terra was an active Goddess, someone who actually interacted with her people and was fair and just. I enjoyed the non-christianization of Cyrene, the Dark Goddess. It was great to have an enemy not labeled as a Devil or Satan, but another powerful female entity with dark magic. This is the first book about mating bonds where ALL mating bonds gave each person the ability to talk mind to mind and read their emotions. The relationships also did not start out completely toxic. While rocky, there were no physical fights, awful betrayals, or downright abusive parts. They were quite realistic and I really appreciated seeing normal, healthy relationships portrayed in a fantasy series. All in all, I wouldn’t read again, but it was good.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t mean to finish this in one sitting. The story line was very interesting, and I found myself not being able to put it down.
Ellie was my favorite type of character. She may be a human living with the Fae, but she’s figured out how to hold her own in almost every situation. She’s strong, smart, and courageous. I enjoyed the fact that even after being put into so many different impossible situations, Ellie didn’t complain or whine.
I believe this was a great way to start a series. The story line was a little predictable at times, but that didn’t bother me. Within the first chapter I was so absorbed that I literally didn’t put it down until I was finished with it. There was a great balance of action, mystery, and the slow burn of a romance.
Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I was left with wanting more romance between Ren and Ellie. The relationship was a slow to happen, but I needed more swooning before they bonded.

If you enjoy the fae and romance this is a must read. CAPTURED BY THE FAE is the first installment in the Fate of the Fae series by Vera River. The characters drew me in from the beginning to the end and left me wanting more.The characters were captivating and the plot drew me in till the end and left me wanting more. The steamy scenes are well placed and not just for thrills. Warning, this does ends in a cliffhanger.
This is a world where Fae rule and most humans are slaves. Ellie is free but works in a bar for tips and maybe a little food with a bed of rags on the floor. Her world is turned upside down when she wakes up one day in a cell, in someone else's body accused of killing the king and thown into an arena to fight a monster. Get ready as Ellie tries to survive as a human in the world of fae royalty filled with political turmoil.
Once I finished this story I was thankful I already had the second installment. Now for number three.

so let’s just start with im partial cause i love anything to do with fae but this book was still good
the plot was very entertaining a human girl living as a servant in the fae realm was kidnapped by the king because she was accused of being a murderer. the king meets her and basically decides on the spot that she should stay and become a warrior in his army while they figure out the fucked up situation that brought her there. the rest of the book is her training and figuring out who she is and what’s going on with the weird magic in the realm
i also really loved both the main characters and liked the development they had throughout the story
the romance was sort of enemies to lovers but not exactly because she forgave him and became pretty much obsessed with him wayyy too quickly for my liking
the tension was actually pretty great and the spice was a 10/10 overall a good book i just think the plot needed to be thought out better and the whole book needed to SLOW DOWN but other than that it was pretty good
i will definitely be reading the second one!

OOOH I LOVED THIS!
I really liked how it was a quick paced story that kept you engaged and questioning what’s going to happen next!
I really liked Ellie and her personality and how she was determined to not be used again and reluctant to just blindly believe what Rainier said to her in the beginning. I did like seeing her walls break down the further into the book we got, and how she learns to start trusting the fae more especially after everything she had to deal with growing up.
I really liked the plot of this book and how we got a brief glimpse of what it could happen at the start, but then towards the end we get shocked with what the plot twist actually is. But I’m pretty impressed with it.
Im really excited to read the next book in the series to see where book 2 takes us after the ending of this book! Overall 10/10 recommend this book for a quick paced fantasy book, with a little bit of spice, good characters and an interesting plot!

OMG! This is an amazing world that Vera Rivers takes us to, humans are slaves to the Fae and there is a war brewing.
Ellie is a free-human but so say she has had a hard life would be an understatement. Orphaned, fostered and abused, living on the street, to finally work in a pub for a pile of rages for a bed, a room above the pub and an occasional meal. One night she hears an intruder and she investigates, next thing she knows, she is in a jail looking like someone else, accused of murdering the king and having to fight for her life.
A rollercoaster of an amazing ride, bring on the next book.
This book does end on a cliff-hanger, which I normally avoid as I hate them, however I was so hooked, I didn’t mind and look forward to the next book.

I usually read until I get to chapter 5 then decide whether or not I want to finish reading it. With each page turn I was hoping it would get better but wow that was not good. Everything happened way too fast (I see why this book is 200 pages now) and each character felt very underdeveloped. Another reviewer stated that they felt like the author was just checking a box when anything happened and I completely agree. I also didn't like how the author would never give any descriptions of the environment and it was a bit strange to realize that this is supposed to take place in modern times where they use technology and magic equally (didn't realize until someone started using a hologram in the fifth chapter). The concept is good but I feel like the characters, setting, and world building needs to be reworked on.

Vera Rivers is an author I only discovered recently but so far I have enjoyed all her books so when I saw this one, the cover of which drew me, and read the blurb I just knew I wanted to read it. I had no intention of reading for so long, but I found myself pulled into the story of Ren and Ellie and didn't want to stop reading.
The storyline is intriguing it has not only Ellie, who's human or is she? It also has Ren, the Fae King. Ellie's accused of a murder she didn't commit, these two characters drew me in, I loved the many emotions evoked by their story which includes action, drama, murder, angst, loyalty, betrayal, magic and of course love and chemistry!
I can hardly wait to read the next book!

This book had so many plot holes I don’t even know where to start.
The fact that the MFC is “different” was introduced so randomly? Why didn’t we get a bit more backstory about how she’d always had strange things happening to her? You mean to tell me I had to read 90% of the book thinking “this is so random why was she randomly chosen and disguised at the murderer” ????? The majority of the book just did not make sense? And you’re trying to convince me that after limited exposure and two fight scenes where they were connected that they’re now in love with each other? There also wasn’t enough world building I didn’t have a clue what the scene was😕😕

This is another stuff your kindle book that I knew nothing about and didn't have high expectations for, and that I read largely because it was something I could pick up and devour easily in one or two sittings with minimal exertion. If you are the author and are passionate about writing please leave now, I don't really want to crush confidence over here.
That being said, this was terrible.
I was immediately assaulted by the juvenile writing style, a use of language, sentence structure and pacing that was frankly elementary, and she used the word alpha unironically, which is a personal pet peeve.
The characters had no personality, I learnt Nothing about them, and their relationships to each other were shallow; I didn't understand the alleged 'endless love' or 'deep unyielding friendship' or whatever they claimed to have going on, because it wasn't written in any emotive or developed way. It bullied the show not tell rule. The main character did Not have an 'enemies to lovers' arc with the Fae guy (who was hundreds of years older than her, of course) he acted sulky and she acted annoyed for a nanosecond, and they proceeded to spend almost no time together while mysteriously, nonetheless falling in love, and then they fucked. I mean half the time he was engaged, the other half they were both being some of the most indecisive, annoying twats I have ever had the displeasure of reading.
And aside from the atrocious character work, the plot twists were obvious, and the plot itself had absolutely no momentum. It was repetitive, and above all, gasp, BORING. Ew.
Finally, I disagreed with a couple of things that were written; at one point, being a king is likened to being a slave, which is literally an INSANE take, and at one point Ellie is referring to her horrific back story (which was never really addressed) and is rightfully frustrated seeing the extreme privilege the King and his cohort live with while she was literally homeless. And his reaction?? To get Annoyed with her because how dare she- He Had It Tough Too You Know??!! WTF.

From the very first words, I was intrigued. I loved Ellie, and this story just sucked me into it and didn’t let up until the very end, and then only because the book ended…btw, yes there is a cliffhanger of sorts. The main plot points of this book are wrapped up well, but as with many of the best stories, the resolutions lead to new problems and concerns, new mysteries and adventures, and I’m ready to move right along to the next book!
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.
