As the good people of the world mourn the loss of the Justice League, the forces of evil have seized the opportunity to wreak havoc in a world without its heroes! Leading the charge is a super-powered Slade Wilson…but this time there’s something dark fueling his rage. With a massive army laying siege to Titans Tower, only Nightwing will have what it takes to stand in the way of Deathstroke’s forces-but is this a fight Dick Grayson can win? Look, up in the sky-reinforcements are on the way! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…uh-oh...it’s Cyborg Superman. The world burns as Pariah and the Great Darkness make their play for planet Earth in this jaw-dropping second issue!
Can't believe how much I'm enjoying this event. I had no real interest in it but damn it is fun.
You get Nightwing being the hero we all know and love. Standing up to evil no matter the odds. On top of that Jon gets to REALLY shine here as a hero, and I loved it. Great fight scenes, good humor, badass moments. Yeah, this crisis might be better than I ever expected.
Richard Greyson survives The tower gets destroyed again. Jor-El son of Kal-El shows up. Hank Handshaw shows up. Black Adam arrives after the fight. The artwork is awesome and the writing is great.
I continue to be engaged in this ongoing story about the Darkness. From Infinite Frontier to Justice League Incarnate to the Death Of The Justice League I'm completely captivated by the detailed story Williamson has been weaving and no with Geoff Johns Flashpoint Beyond, The Flash, Young Justice and a few other tie ins this story has become bigger and bigger and the stakes are monolithic!
BLAM! ZOC!
The second issue of Dark Crisis starts with the continuation of last issues cliff hanger as Deathstroke and his army square off against Titans Academy. We are also given glimpses into the motivation of Pariah and hints at a darker presence behind him. We also get a Superman vs Cyborg Superman battle, but after that conclusion the story sort of lets up off the gas a bit with the most noticeable event in the final part of the book being the "rescuing" of Kyle Rainer. I'm still finding the artwork by Daniel Sampere to be one of the biggest draws for me.
Ancora fasi introduttive dell'evento, senza grossi pericoli in scena.
This was a good issue but not great. The art had some great moments though. This felt like more of a setup for bigger things to come. The last few pages did a solid job getting the excitement building.
I adore Joshua Williamson’s DC universe. This is the big pay off and dear lord is it exciting. This single issue was better Titan content than any teen issue comic during the infinite frontier era.
Dark Crisis might only be two issues into the main title, but it's become a series that I'm super excited for each month. This is the best DC event since Flashpoint, and the start of the New 52.
Whilst the first issue gave us a bit of a broad spread as to what was going on in the DC universe, showing us a world without the Justice League, and how things have quickly descended into chaos as criminals push boundaries everywhere; this issue focuses the majority of its action on one place, and one group of people. The siege of Titans Tower.
The way the last issue ended, with Deathstroke apparently shooting Beast Boy in the head and killing him, I was desperate to find out what happened next; and I was so gad that this issue went back to these events as soon as it did. Thankfully, it seems that Beast Boy's shape shifting abilities mean that a bullet to the brain isn't instantly deadly, but he's not safe yet by any means.
For the majority of the issue we follow Nightwing as his school comes under attack from a host of villains, and he has a one on one fight with Deathstroke. The fight between the two of them is absolutely phenomenal, and you can feel the years of tension, hate, and history coming to the forefront here. Deathstroke respecting Dick as a fighter. Dick pushing himself further than any other fight. The fact that Deathroke calls him by his name. This isn't just two costumed people going up against each other, but two people with a lot of history.
And I honestly held my breath for a moment when it looked like Deathstroke was going to deliver a killing blow to Dick, and my goodness, I've never been so happy to see John as in that moment. His arrival was absolutely perfect. The timing was great, and the fact that he and Dick have become so close in their own titles absolutely fits with this. They're the legacy Batman and Superman. They're friends. So of course John would be there the split second Dick needs him to be to save his life.
This issue also clears up a little of what happened to Slade at the end of Shadow War, when he was put in the Lazarus Pit and the waters turned black. It looks like whatever this stuff is has somehow connected him to Pariah and the big bad, and that they're trying to influence him from beyond that universe. And he's not the only one. Cyborg Superman makes an appearance here, and gets to throw down with John in a fight that is only overshadowed by the Dick/Slade one because of how epic that was.
Outside of the Titans Tower drama we also learn that the Green Lanterns are gathering in order to take the fight back to Earth. They've even stopped by to pick up a ring-less Kyle Rayner and offer him his job with the corps back. You know a crisis is about to kick into high gear whenever the Corps has to show up, so it definitely feels like this issue is just the prelude even more to come.
I loved the first issue of this series as it set things up really well, had a lot of great moments, and teased some cool things to come; but this issue was so much better for the fantastic action, the heartbreak, the tension, and the wow factor. I rated the first issue as a five out of five, so on that metric I guess this one would have to be six out of five!
Well this is getting interesting. The group of villains Deathstroke is leading have attacked the headquarters of the Titans. While Nightwing is taking on Deathstroke some of the Titans are trying to get their students to safety. Not sure but it appears that Beast Boy may have been killed, but since this is comics I am not going to go out on a limb say for sure. We do have some help coming though, first off is Superman's son who has inherited his powers. Secondly Hal Jordan and another member of the Green Lantern Corps appear. They have brought with them some backup, mainly the entirety (I think) of the Green Lantern Corps. There are also still references to someone or something called The Darkness that seems to be behind everything but no real information on that yet. One amusing scene is where Cyborg stomps Henshaw, the Cyborg Superman. Cyborg then tells Henshaw that he (Cyborg) is tired of Henshaw giving cyborg a bad name. So this was a really enjoyalbe issue. Definitely looking forward to the next one.
This is why I don't read superhero comics. I just don't know the characters or the references and it is difficult to follow the jumps.
Deathstroke takes on Nightwing. It appears Deathstroke is working for Pariah. He has orders to sow chaos, not to kill. Superman the younger jumps in to save Nightwing. The Academy is destroyed.
Looks like the Green Lanterns are poised for the next episode in this tale. **** Black Adam wants to lead the new Justice League as he thinks the others are too inexperienced. Beat Boy was shot in the head by Deathstroke.
And yes, DC wins no new readers in all this as the characters are just unknown to the reader. I was lead to believe reading a big story like this was the way to ease into the universe; it doesn't appear to be panning out that way.
