"HALLOWEEN meets SCREAM." - David Royce, Horror Reads Youtube Channel & author of 'The Things That Happen at Night'

Creating an original Creepypasta can be fun, thrilling…and deadly.

That’s exactly what is about to befall a group of five high school students. Maeve Crawford invites the group to her home for a night of pizza and creepy stories. The class assignment is simple: create an original Creepypasta. As each of them pitches their spooky ideas to one another, a storm rolls in. The thunder is deafening and the lightning is fierce.

And then, someone dies.

A mysterious prowler has crashed the party; someone wearing an unsettling mask, ripped straight from the roots of Maeve’s Creepypasta pitch. Does the homicidal stalker lurking out in the storm have an axe to grind? Or is it possible that there might be more truth to Maeve’s Creepypasta than they realize?

Dark, gory and full of twists, Scott Donnelly (Mothman: Return to Point Pleasant, Of a Mad Brain & Killer Scarecrow) pays homage to the slashers of the 80s and 90s, while weaving an original mystery that will keep you guessing as to who is under the mask as the bodies begin to fall.

This was such a fun short read. It truly is a fun slasher type book and just when you think you know who is killing everyone, boom, plot twist! I loved all the different characters and how even though there are different story lines built in to one you can keep track without ever getting lost. This book reminds me of a short story that you would find on Creepshow or Tales from the Crypt, something chilling to get you scared enough that you can’t sleep. It was beautifully written and I loved every minute of this book!

If you've ever thought about creating your own Creepypasta, this book may convince you to just leave well enough alone. When a group of teens have to create their very own Creepypasta for a school project, things quickly turn bloody when it seemingly comes to life. With a killer on the loose, Maeve must fight to survive. This is a fast paced story that will keep you reading up into the late hours of the night, then have you jumping at shadows. The killer ending is something you will never see coming and only something the ever impressive Scott Donnelly could deliver. If you're a fan of slashers, you're going to love Creepy Project!

This is my first time reading Scott's work, and I am officially a new fan! This slasher will make you nostalgic for those cozy nights on the couch where you just popped in your latest VHS rental, and you sink below your blanket to shield your eyes from the horror on-screen. A great mix of creepiness and mystery. Just remember to keep your night light on when you go to sleep.

If you're a fan of the slasher genre, you'll love this book. It's basically a slasher film in book form and feels like a cross between Halloween and Scream.

You have a group of teens alone in a house on a stormy night to work on a school project. When a killer from one of their nightmares seems to come to life, the blood and gore flows. In this action packed horror, you have no shortage of possible suspects. At the end there are two fantastic twists as the killer is revealed that you don't see coming!

This book is the perfect length for the story that is told and the set up and characters are wonderfully written. I highly recommend this book!

Spoilers/review for Creepy Project
.
Celeste Myers comes home on a stormy evening in a flood of tears. She tells her son, Nico, that her husband, Nico's father, Bowen has been having an affair with a much younger woman. As she tries to have a peaceful sleep, an unseen force kills her. Then we flash forward 18 months, and meet Maeve Crawford. Maeve is a seventeen year old student who is working on a story for school called "Creepy Project". Her story centres around a gas mask wearing murder known as "Mr Dolor", who haunts a young girl. But as Maeve and her friends start work for the night, strange events start...
.
I like this one. It has a curious, cold opening and I wondered how it would tie in. The setting of a stormy night is a good idea and works well to add to the atmosphere of the story. Makes it more tense. As for the story, it is a very quick read and I found myself flying through the pages, a sign of a great book. Maeve and her friends are an interesting bunch and it did have elements of Scream to it I felt, and a subtle nod to the slashers of the past. There are some very intriguing twists and turns to keep the story progressing nicely. The blending of fiction and reality works well I feel and Donnelly pulls it off in a nice way. I did want more from the story however, and I couldn't help but feel we could have seen more from the cast and gone a tiny bit further with their story, but it still works. To me, Creepy Project is a fun, fast-paced, read!
On the whole, 4.5/5 stars. I wanted a bit more but it's very well written and just a great fun, quick story! My first by Donnelly, but I don't think it will be my last

Summary
Maeve and a few of her fellow classmates have a simple assignment, create an original Creepypasta. On a dark and stormy night, Maeve invites her friends over for some pizza and to pitch their stories to one another and decide which one will be center stage for their assignment. Not long into the evening, someone dies. Then another. And then another. The killer is eerily reminiscent of the villain in Maeve’s Creepypasta. Does Maeve have a homicidal stalker or is there more to her narrative than she even realized?

Thoughts
This was my first-time reading Scott’s work, and it was delightful. It’s a quick read but it packs quite the punch. It’s full of all the slasher elements we love and enjoy – a group of carefree teens with their drama and poor decision making, the gnarly kill scenes, nonchalant police or authority figures and the ever-changing uncertainty of who the killer is.

While reading ‘Creepy Project’ I couldn’t help but feel all the nostalgia of the classic slasher trope and think back to the simpler times of Blockbusters and Jiffy Pop. ‘Creepy Project’ is a well written and very entertaining story that any horror or slasher enthusiast would enjoy having in their collection.

I am very excited to check out more of Scott Donnelly’s work, I saw he has some Cryptid related stories that very much piqued my interest.

‘Creepy Project’ debuts on July 1, 2022 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon!

*Huge thank you to Scott Donnelly for sending me an e-ARC of ‘Creepy Project’ in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and views in this review are my own.

I’ve read so many of Scott’s books but this is by far my favorite! There aren’t many stories that can throw me for a loop but this twist ending was wonderful! I read cover to cover and could not put this down! I highly recommend if you like slasher/ Creepypasta type stories!

Creepy project review

Made up stories and fairytales, crypts and monsters are made up for every spooky story.
That’s the new class project, to make up some scary story in the classroom group. Maeve Crawford invites over her fellow class mates over for a evening to get started on the project. While her mother and step father (who tries to hard) goes out for a night on the town and leaves her the house to herself. A rain storm rolls in with lighting and thunder setting the mood even more to share their wild ideas. Maeve finds secret notes tapped to her door and wonders if one of her friend are playing a practical prank, but as the night continues things just get weirder. From her phone missing to other things not adding up…..

I didn’t want to share too much of the description of the story and spoil the surprise. This was super short and it had a lot packed into it! It had a slash of blood on almost every page, LOL! I really enjoy the story and I can’t wait to read more. Thank you @ for the e-ARC read in exchange for a honest review

Maeve and her classmates are working on a school project to create their own Creepypasta. They’re presenting their ideas to each other when one of their nightmares seems to become a reality.

This was such a fun, bloody slasher. It reminded me a lot of the Scream movies and classic slashers, and when I read the inspirations in the acknowledgements it all made sense. This was fast-paced and really felt like a horror movie in book form.

I thought I knew who the killer was but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I had a couple of suspects throughout and was still taken by surprise in the unmasking. I wish it was a little longer so we could have more connection to the characters, but for a novella it was superb.

If you are looking for a quick, bloody slasher this is one to put on your radar!

Thank you to the author for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!

I read these slash em up novellas out of order, with this one first. I've since gone back and read the other two but this one is by far by fave. Perfect for fans of 80s/90s slasher horror genre, this book is a wild ride. It gave me all the nostalgia feels, the masked killer stalking teenagers, no one is safe! The pop culture references are awesome. I was madly reading along, turning page after page, I thought I had it figured out, I was sure I had the killer guessed but then that final twist we have come to love this genre for. The author does not disappoint. I loved it, I'd recommend it, now go read it!
