First, my thanks to the author, Derek Bailey for sending me a copy for review.

The Voidwalker Collection is a collection of 8 novellas, that follow Bryan your normal guy until he goes to sleep, when he travels to The Mansion. But something weird starts happening and a monster starts attacking the guests, so what it's going on?

I'll say the premise of the book had me from page one, since I love everything that has to do when dreams or memory in general. We have a mix of staying in the real world and in the Mansion, and curiously enough at times I found the real world more entertaining, since is filled with drama. Bryan's life is a bit upside down and nothing seems to be working for him, so there are a lot of inflexion points, which were pretty interesting to read.

But the thing is, the novel is divided into 8 novels, and this works and doesn't at the same time. It works because you can stop reading for a bit and just continue, but also with some novels it feels like the action could have continue in the next chapter, but there isn't one and we are already in the next novel. I would also say that of course, I liked some of the novels more than others, even though there was a pretty good balance between all of them.

Without falling into the spoiler category I will say that I enjoyed the plot, though I would have loved if the mystery of the Mansion remain for a bit more, since everything starts to go wrong pretty early on. This makes some of chapters that set there a bit of the same, since they are kinda on the run for most of them. Gimme a bit more of the weirdness of everything going okay, so the character can be a little bit more in the "whats is going on" phase.

Regarding our characters. Bryan was mostly okay, though sometimes he came across a bit missogynistic (comes to mind a moment with a fat girl, and Bryan saying she at least has a good enough face), this is latter brought up by his girlfriend, which is something that I appreciated since this happened a couple of times. As for Kayla, damn, she's so annoying for most of bit, I don't know if it was the main intent, or because Bryan cannot stand her and his thoughts about her got to me. Jack was definitely the best, along with a couple more guests of The Mansion.

Overall I would recommend The Voidwalker collection to those of you who are looking for something different, with a bit of horror and gore, and very easy to read and follow. And as for me I'll be adding Derek Bailey to the authors that I will follow!

I received a digital copy of this book for free via Goodreads giveaway. All opinions are my own.

I tried. I really did. I'd pick it up, then put it down, then pick it up again... Eventually, this took place over a period of months long enough for me to forget every single thing happening.
Unfortunately, I just never felt drawn to sit down and read this story, so I'm going to have to pass.
