Two friends bond over increasingly unsettling films. When the envelope is pushed too far, a wedge is formed between them, pushing one to delve into the disturbing unknown of the deep web. Upon the discovery of a seemingly forgotten forum, a single question begins to torment
Jesse Pullins is an American short-fiction writer from the Midwest. With a love for horror and suspense, he draws heavy inspiration from retro video games and classic creepypastas.
I'm the first one to review this book. I'm glad to have the opportunity, because it certainly deserves an audience. And then there are random kindle freebies like this. Self-published books that make you be appreciative of the option. A charmingly macabre creepypasta novelette of an obsession. Two friends who love horror movies and one of them who can’t stop pushing for fresher, scarier thrills until she finds one that she can’t let go of…or, more accurately, one that won’t let go of her. You can’t see him until he won’t you to and once you do, you won’t be able to look away. Papier-mâché or it’s Americanized version here has never been creepier. A really good read – read it in the dark if possible. Well written, atmospheric and profoundly unsettling in a dark psychological manner without resorting to guts and gore, this definitely worked. Nice cover and professionally edited to boot. One of the nicer freebie finds, for sure. Well done, kudos to the author. Recommended.
I loved this terrifying short story! It tells the tale of an urban legend monster buried in the depths of the internet.
It’s to the point, scary as hell, and will probably give me nightmares.
“I couldn’t help but look down the hall, to the shadow that led to our bedrooms. There was nothing there, but you know that feeling you get when you’re looking into the dark? Like maybe, just maybe, something could be?”
I bought this for free on my kindle because it was recommended on a Facebook page and that cover is awesome. It was a quick, creepy read. If you were ever into creepypasta I recommend this
This book was great. I cannot believe that it was free on Kindle. It is nice to find a horror story that not only entertains you, but also is original in it self.
This was a creepy one! Short and to the point. It was great. If you get the opportunity to read it at night…definitely do it! This gem will stick with me for a while.
In this homage to internet urban legends, horror movies, and creepypasta, Pullins captures the reader from page one and doesn't let them go. I felt at home with Emily and the unnamed protagonist in their adoration of horror movies. I too spent a good portion of my life watching horror movies, eating popcorn, and Chinese food so these characters were immediately relatable. Furthermore, I'd watched all the movies mentioned in the narrative so I also understood the desire to continue finding darker and grittier material. Thankfully, I have not yet stumbled upon The Paper Mache Man like Emily does.
Reading like an old school creepypasta narrative, The Paper Mache Man, if posted several years ago, would likely inspire copycat posts and perpetuate as an internet legend similarly to the Slenderman. The narrator's description of Emily's descent into a constant state of fear and paranoia feel realistic and drive through the unsettling atmosphere presented throughout the narrative. Pullins keeps the tension going and brings life to this familiar troupe.
This is truly a fun read and doesn't overstay its welcome. Coming in at 60 pages, it is a quick, one sitting read. It is a highly entertaining page turner, and I'd recommend it to anyone interested in creepypasta or urban legends. Don't miss out on this story.
If you’re looking for a creepypasta novelette that packs a punch in just 60 pages, I highly recommend The Paper Mache Man! This already creeped me out in the daylight but if you’re looking to induce nightmares then consider reading this in the dark.
Two roommates are obsessed with Horror Films and after several movie nights, one of them sets out to look for something more. Scouring the deep web, they find what they were looking for…Have you heard of the Paper Mache Man? If you haven’t, that’s okay because eventually he’ll find YOU…
Keeping this spoiler free but I devoured this in one sitting and loved every minute of it. Great plot, steady pacing, interesting characters and an original spine-chilling creature! Horror readers, don’t skip out on this one.
I saw this book while browsing the Kindle store and was drawn to this creepy AF cover. It was free so I went ahead and downloaded it. I read it in one sitting before bed last night. Maybe not the smartest move because it really scared me and I’m hard to scare 🤣
Two friends who love horror movies and one of them who can’t stop pushing for fresher, scarier thrills until she finds one that she can’t let go of, or, more accurately, one that won’t let go of her. You can’t see him until he won’t you to and once you do, you won’t be able to look away. He’s the Paper Mache man, similar to Slender Man, but even freakier imo.
I really connected with the characters and the writer packed a lot of action into 63 pages. If you’re in the mood for a quick creepy read, pick this one up. It’s still free on the ‘Zon.
For a free book on kindle this one wasn't bad. If you enjoy reading creepypastas online you'll probably like the idea of this one. The things that brought my rating down was the fact that the ending was so wierd. So, in chapter 9 we are reading about the narrator watching himself as the paper mache man is peeling off the narrator's skin and replacing it with newspaper and then the paper mache man is donning the skin himself...and in the next chapter the narrator is going to a bar with the photos Emily took and is looking for her and is like sometimes you just need a friend...like I'm confused did the narrator get turned into paper mache or not what's going on? Someone please enlighten me.

This was a story I went into completely unknowing: I had no idea what the story was about (other than what the title suggested) and never read something from this author before. I was in the mood for a quick horror read, so I searched up 'novella' in one of the horror book groups I'm in, saw this recommended, and it definitely filled that want.
A good, quick creepypasta read with an ending that punched you in the gut with twisted and dark.
I’m excited to look more into the author’s other works after reading this.
The Paper Mache Man by Jesse Pullins is one of those rare finds that you come across in your travels, a genuinely scary story. Jesse Pullins has crafted one of the most terrifying monsters to haunt horror fiction in many a year. as a kid, i never cared for paper mache come art time. now i know why. the story is darkly compelling and frankly, scary as hell. my hat's off to you. highly recommended. 5 stars out of 5.
2.5 stars rounded up So it may be the fact I am HIGH off my mind from anesthesia and copious amounts of pain killers I was given when my body doesn’t even typically finish a single beer, but this book was.. nothing. It felt like a creepy pasta, and read like one too. But we get no answers, and that ending makes no sense. It was a creepy set up sure and I can see how it’s scary or spooky but that ending and the prose made it less than enjoyable.
Two women who are roommates search for something that will genuinely frighten them. For one, it leads to the Internet where she attracts the attention of The Paper Mache Man, a being more formidable and frightening than Slenderman.
Kudos to the author for creating a creature that holds a unique spot in today’s monster-oriented literature.
I enjoyed this so much! It was a fantastic nod to the creepypasta days, which I loved dearly. If you read this in the right setting and actually take a long look at the cover art (which is phenomenal), you WILL get spooked. I looked over my shoulder more than a couple times!
There’s a lot of gore in ‘The Paper Mache Man’ by Jesse Pullins. I found the creepy element wanting. In fact, the cover is the one thing that’s really creepy. So that eventually, this short book became just a list of ripping, and slicing.
I listened to an audio version of this and I don't know why but it didn't give me the same creepy factor like most people claim with this story. I had the perfect ambience, dark room, no one awake at home, raining outside.... I'm disappointed.
Fun little 60 page homage to urban legends and creepypasta. I could've probably banged this out in an hour if I didn't almost exclusively read it as I was in bed for the night.
A very fast read, a very absorbing story. I imagine a lot of us horror lovers could go down a rabbit hole like the people in this story and all I can say is thank god it's fiction. I hope.
