I'm a mermaid, at least I am in my spare time. I actually spend most of my days giving water aerobics classes on the cruise ship I work on. It's not glamorous, or exciting, and I'm not really a mermaid, but it's safe - until the Fae show up.
It's my birthday. I'm supposed to be eating lemon cakes and watching crappy TV. Instead, I'm running for my life from the Fae who want me to go with them, but won't tell me why. All I can do is try to escape, but somehow, I end up in Arcadia; a land of perpetual summer and monsters.
But it gets better.
It isn't long before I'm found by the Fae, only not the ones that crashed my birthday party. Captain Mordred and his band of Fae pirates scoop me up from the island I'd marooned myself on, and before long, I'm a prisoner on his ship. He wants something from me; something I don't have and can't give him.
My survival hinges on whether this pirate captain can get what he wants from me. He's dangerous, and powerful, and charming, and he makes me question everything about myself, but I need to keep my wits about me and escape.
If only it was that easy.
Lost Siren is an action-filled adventure in a fantasy world, with a funny sidekick, pirates, mermaids, and a slow-burn romance! Welcome to Arcadia, a land of beautiful monsters.
Katerina Martinez is a widely known author who writes supernatural fiction with a creepy, thrilling, and romantic bent. A veteran of many years of writing, she is the author of Dark Siren, the first book in the breakout Half-Lich Trilogy which became an instant bestseller in 2016. She continues to expand her back-list with books such as Wings of Light, and Heart of the Thief, and Night Hunter - three series starters that all take place in the same world.

I have been a fan of this author for a while, but not a huge, long time. I know her books will have a mystical feel, and this series opener is no exception. Kara works on a cruise ship, and she loves to wear mermaid’s tails to swim. Everything changes when she’s swept into another realm where there are actual mermaids. She goes from pirate to pirate before her journey actually begins. This was a well-written interesting first book in Kara’s series, and it was fun. I really like Bubbles, and I am looking forward to finding out just how the other characters fit in Kara’s life. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Aside from the lovely cover, I enjoyed the combination of fantastical-adventure-pirate-mermaid-pixie-fae tropes.
The most enjoyable aspect of this book for me was probably the interaction between Kara and Bubbles—their interaction was definitely my favorite part. Aside from their journey, I enjoyed how adorable and hilarious their pairing is.
Although I wasn't sure who to vote for among the male candidates, I would say they were all interesting, but my heart belongs to Kara and Bubbles, so sorry boys.
My only complaint about this book is that the writing isn't particularly compelling and doesn't provide enough breathing space for the reader—for me—so that part kind of falls short.
Although I stated that the characters are interesting, I would like to point out that most of the time, they don't leave a lasting impression on me, so this one falls short as well.
Overall, I believe this is a solid first novel. There is still room for improvement, and there are sections that I believe could have been better presented.
🧜♀️ A mermaid adventure you don’t want to miss! 🧜♀️
Its overload with cuteness and laughter!! 😅 I couldn’t put it down!! Kara and her sidekick Bubbles- that’s right Bubbles a water pixie will make you laugh and wish you were stuck with them 24/7! Their adventure in Arcadia is full of shenanigans ! and dont even get me started on the sexy bachelors - the good, the bad and the weird! 🤣 My heart belongs to Captain Blackstone but sometimes with the evil Captain Mordred 🙈 and lets not forget delicious Aenon... I CANT DECIDE!!!! But im so ready to find out!!! I need book two now!
This is the beginning of the third series set in Arcadia. The first two were fantastic. But so far The List Siren is stacking up to be my favorite! The story is very original, and loads of character development. I absolutely love it! There is so much to say, but hard not to spoil the story. I loved every bit of it. Mermaids and pirates, Fae pirates at that, it is such a fun tale! If you read the first two series of Arcadia then you don’t want to miss this one!
Back to Arcadia we go for another fantastical adventure. The world building is incredible and beautiful and I am so happy to be back here amongst the fae. In this new series we meet Kara who works the cruise ships as a mermaid and she is such a great character and her journey into Arcadia is an amazing one. Pirates, mermaids, water pixies, fae, good guys, bad guys, it’s exciting, it’s intriguing, it’s fun and full of humour and it’s one hell of a ride that I am so happy I joined. I am very excited to read the next book.
Aaaarrrrgggghhhh matey! If it's pirates and mermaids yer after, then look no further!
I just loved this book. Fae pirates fighting over a human girl... but is she? Did I mention three sexy fae men? Although one was probably a vampyre. Oh, and one is a merman, or whatever you call the male of the species. This story just kept me guessing the entire way through. Looking forward to book 2.
I'm not gonna spend too much time on this review. I finished this book out of sheer willpower but it should have been a DNF.
The characters were one of the flattest I have ever read. The plot was just the main character being tossed around from one potential love interest captor to another. She had 0 agency. Basically the same thing happened 3 times: She tries to get off the ship and swim to safety (what a plan!) and gets stopped by the very attractive captain only to be interrupted by another attractive captain and her ending up on the latter's ship, rinse repeat. Where is the character arc, where is the plot arc?
We, as the readers, get barely any world building, no potential suspense or payoff, no character arch, no plot and we have nobody to root for because the main character is an idiot. Imagine trying to get off a pirate ship, getting stopped but not apprehended, she just starts a conversation with whoever is interrupting her and when they ask her what she is doing she just says well I was planning to swim to x-port to escape. Like why would you tell them your plan? why would you tell the people holding you captive anything really?
The writing wa subpar. I got confused quite a bit between real scenes and dream sequences and I feel like the author should showcase more clearly what is going on. The author repeats a lot of useless information not even a paragraph after saying it and repeats a lot of the same turns of phrases making the prose sound repetitive. The author also suffers a bit from the tell and not show.
This book was just not for me, sorry.

I absolutely love this author and anything that I see of hers I have to grab the moment it comes out! She never disappoints me, a true constant in my life 💗 I really love all of the books that are released by this author are shorter than the average book- it makes for a quick read! However, then I’m crying while I’m waiting for the next book. The adventure and world building in this book could not be beat. I actually became jealous over the concept of our MC working on a cruise ship and then throwing in the pirates. GENIUS! What a great concept to tie in modern but also have the pirate theme. It was a great start to a first book and I am readily awaiting the next one in the series. The downside of having a shorter novel is we do not get to have a more in depth look at the characters. I don’t have a connection with any of them thus far as I need more character development which I’m sure will come with the second book. The first book was definitely enough to keep me wanting more and wanting to figure just where the author will go with this world and it’s character and of course the romantic aspect of it.
No sé.
Welcome back to Acadia dear readers, and buckle up for one doozy of an adventure 😉. This gem is filled with enemy fae pirates galore, a lone pixie stowaway, and one massively perplexed human caught in the middle of everything. Why is she the treasure they seem intent on claiming? What could she possibly know? Humor, action, adventure and so much more grace these pages and set up what is sure to be one brilliant series to come!! I for one can't wait to see what happens in book two. Book one does an epic job of setting the stage and introducing us to this world and the colorful characters within. I can't wait to dive in deeper in the next books. Go ahead and treat yourself to this magical adventure.
Oh this one is sweet, I loved Kara and her friendship with Bubbles, the pixie. Kara is kind and generous but also a bit naïve, we understnd she suffered in her past so she is shy but she also can be determined when she wanst to protect her friend(s).
She is living working on a cruise ship when suddenly fae keep appearring wanting something with her but Bubbles warned her about them so..she is fleeing.....when sudenly she is not in our world anymore. Fae world is strange, Fae are dangerous but some are also gorgeous...kidnapped by pirates, reacquirred...Kara has a lot to learn but is not sure of who she can trust.
Humour, action, adventure i really loved this book and will be curious to se where the author will bring Kara.
This was a fun story that moves along fast, with some great dialogue that made me smile more than once. Katerina’s imagination is amazing and I truly enjoyed her unique world building that is something familiar yet with a twist. That is what I love more about this author for sure! Do buy this if you are looking for an easy read, great adventures, and want to get lost in a fantastic world. If you want a complicated plot and layers of characterization, and some romance, this isn’t the book. While there might be romance in book 2, there is basically nothing here except maybe a hint. This first book doesn’t end here so it’s not standalone and obviously, the story continues and you would need to buy the next book. But overall, I enjoyed it.

*Thoughts*
Lost Siren, by author Katerina Martinez, is the first installment in the authors The Enchanting Fae series which will be four books according to the author. This is actually the third series that takes place in Arcadia. You don't need to have read the first two in order to read this series. 24-year-old Kara Shaw works for a cruise ship called Pearl of the Sea. She wears a mermaid outfit, and teaches people how to swim. But on the day of her birthday, pirates board her ship in search of Kara for some reason, and seems as though they are here for Kara.
This was a fast interesting story. The characters were all fleshed out nicely, and the world interesting. My main grip is that even when warned our FMC was rash and didn’t really process what Bubbles told her. She needed to be far more carful with her wording and decision making. Other than that I loved her spunk. The kiss at the end felt wrong honestly. I think she was attracted to all 3 of the men and none had given her a reason to want to kiss them in my option. Her main concern should of been why they all wanted her and who put her in the situation she was in.
Kara knows Arcadia exists, thanks to her pixie companion, Bubbles. What Kara doesn’t know is how Arcadia is about to change her life. Pirates and mermaids and rollicking adventure on the high seas, oh my. I’ve only just started, but I think I’m hooked already. I have so many questions, and there are so many answers unknown. What does the future have in store for Kara? No clue yet, but I’m dying to find out. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Katerina Martinez is a genius at creating worlds from legends and myths. The Magickal Katerinaverse is filled with extraordinary characters and the settings are very believable. Bubbles especially made this book more fun. The dedication to true storytelling is why Katerina Martinez is my favorite Supernatural author.
No spoilers, read the book. Read all of her series. Enjoy the magick! Outstanding read!
Absolutely Amazing start to another trip back to Arcadia! This book had a unique beginning that once you are further in you will understand almost everything. Kara and Bubbles are a wonderful team that bring life to the story for me. The ending was great but, left me screaming for More!!! Well Done! I LOVE IT!!! No Spoilers!
COOL! Pirates. Fae. Adventure. I LOVED IT! The little pixie, Bubbles was cute…I hope she isn’t the one the Voice was talking about. I am very curious about Kara’s history, it should be interesting! I really enjoyed this book, it had everything awesome in it and I can’t wait for the next one to continue the story!
I enjoyed the fast pace of the book and all the different characters. So far an interesting take on the fae. Excited to see what happens and how the protagonist develops.
This is not a full story with deep and complex characters and a riveting plot line. Instead it's broken up into four parts and the plot line is paper thin. The characters have no personality or depth to them. No chemistry either.
Honestly I don’t know why I keep reading these Arcadia books. I don’t find them any good but I always find myself pressing that buy button on the kindle store 😵💫
