But giving into desire could cost them everything.

But the fire between them burns too hot, making it impossible for him to walk away. And when the killer finally strikes, Donovan will have to confront his demons head on…with only one chance to save them both.

I don't think there is a trope I hate more than the martyr. I hate it when a man or woman can't just let it go and continue to flog themselves over something in their past. And make everyone else, especially their love interest pay for whatever they did also. Rant over, now for the Review. The characters were hard to warm up to and the first half was a bit of a slog. The baddie was not hard to guess and while there was some action it was nowhere near the high standard Kaylea Cross has set in the past.
Anaya Bishop's mother had no other choice but to give her up for adoption after a hurricane destroyed their home in Haiti. That decision gave Anaya a home in America with parents and other brothers and sisters and a chance at a better life witch Anaya took full advantage of by becoming an aeronautical engineer. She is headed to Portland on a business trip. Also on this trip is a powerful man who has harassed her in the past. Not wanting to deal with this again she reaches out to her soon to be brother-in-law at Crimson Point Security, but he is unable to help her. He recommends Donovan Myers instead.
Donovan and Anaya had met briefly before, and the attraction was strong. That was something Donovan had chosen not to pursue. Now, acting as her bodyguard, it is an attraction that will simply be ignored. There is no room for inattention when he is on the job. Being inattentive was how another innocent died on his watch years ago. That is never happening again. 3 1/2-Stars
Anaya’s mother left her at an orphanage in Haiti after a devastating hurricane. She’s the adoptive sister of Nadia and now a successful aeronautical engineer. She hires Donovan for personal protection during a business trip. Things get messier than she’d ever foreseen. In fact, the mess was so convoluted that I didn’t see the whole picture. There were some odd things in this book that bothered me, that was actually similar in some of her other books. One was the supposed extreme closeness of the sisters, yet when things got overly emotional or intense, she backed away from her sister or hid it from her. (This also happened with Mia and Kerrigan – supposed besties in prior books.) Another aspect that bothered me was how Anaya handled her toxic relationship with her adoptive mother. Instead of setting limits and limiting contact, which would protect her while also leave paths open to redemption and healing, she just cut her off entirely. That seems more designed for being retaliatory and hurtful than for protection in the context of maturity and personal growth. Otherwise, I liked the book, which I read as an ebook. 4/5
I have mixed feelings about this Crimson point series. The ones that solely take place on home soil are very boring to me. Not enough angst for me. Story line highly predictable. I didn't feel any chemistry between these two. Struggled to finish it.
Even though she is a successful aeronautical engineer, Anaya Bishop has not had an easy life. Yet, she tries to see the good in people and loves with all of her heart. When she is being harassed by a coworker, however, she hires Donovan Myers as her bodyguard to act as a deterrent. She hasn’t stopped thinking about him since he helped rescue her sister from Afghanistan, and even though they live on opposite sides of the country, she is drawn to him in ways she probably shouldn’t be.
Donovan Myers has a lot of guilt and a lot of baggage from his past. It’s why the only relationship he is focussing on is the one with his daughter. But, the more time he spends with Anaya, the more he wants her. And, the more danger that seems to come her way, the more he can’t seem to stop himself from crossing lines he never meant to. But, what happens when the threat isn’t what it seems and Donovan realizes he could truly lose everything he cares about . . .including Anaya?
Donovan and Anaya have incredible chemistry that burns super hot. And, the longer they wait to act on it, the more intense it becomes! Both have heartbreaking back stories that give them more in common than they realize. Anaya’s showcases her incredible strength in overcoming so many obstacles and forming a family where she could. Donovan’s highlights the guilt he is letting bury him alive, but also the joy of a second chance with a relationship with his daughter, Shea.
At first, the threat in this book feels known, but things quickly spiral and the plot becomes a complex series of wicked twists and unknown dangers that threaten not only Anaya, but Shea as well. And, while they are fighting to stay alive, they are also battling their pasts and personal demons as well as their attraction to one another. It’s fabulous suspension and the tension is simply delicious between this couple. The author has also teased some incredible future storylines for characters - one of which brings back one of our favorite Valkyries!
Action, suspense, complex characters and relationships, and so much chemistry, Protective Impulse is a fantastic addition to the Crimson Point extended series. 5 stars!
Once again, this talented author delivers a story that grabs the reader from the first page to the last. This time, the story belongs to newly hired security specialist Donavan Myers, and the very successful engineer, Anaya Bishop. These two met a few months ago, and the attraction was immediate. But she lives on the east coast and he lives on the west coast. When Anaya returns to the west coast needing a bodyguard while attending business meetings in Seattle in which the man that harassed her a year ago, is also attending, she asks her future brother-in-law for help. Not being available to guard her himself, Callum assigns Donovan to keep her safe. Though the attraction has not diminished, Donovan doesn’t feel he is worthy of Anaya. His past still haunts him, and he would never cross the professional line. But when Anaya and his daughter are in danger, all bets are off. Can Donovan keep them safe? Can they figure out who’s to blame for the threats? Is it more than one person? Will these two be able to find their HEA or will the distance and Donovan’s belief that he’s damaged be the final straw? This story has an engaging plot and characters that are perfect in their imperfections. It’s a story about family, or lack thereof. It’s a story about hope, second chances , new beginnings and finding the person that completes the other. At times heartbreaking, the story is also a reminder that though life is messy, finding happiness is worth the struggles. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Being a successful engineer Anaya Bishop who speaks both French and English is included in a high negotiation meeting translating for her boss, Darrin attempting to get a high dollar contract with the French CEO of the company. Also there is Anthony Riggs, a man she had reported for sexual harassment who is there as well. He didn’t take her rejection quietly and is determined to destroy her. Knowing she needed protection from Riggs, Anaya hired Donovan Myers of Crimson Point Protector's to be her security while she was in France. While there, she also needed him to protect her when she met her father Jean Luc for the first time. Everything was going well until someone attempted to kill her. When that happened, Donovan rushed her back to Crimson Point to protect her. Donovan and Anaya skirted around each other before when he was working with his team to rescue her sister, Nadia. He never felt he was worthy of her therefore had no intention of moving forward with their attraction to each other. That was until someone placed a target on her. Now he’s all in, hopefully it’s not too late. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Anaya comes from a family of siblings mostly adopted from other countries, she is close to all her siblings but especially Nadia, her dad, who is nothing but supportive of all of them and quick with kinds words, advice or a hug. Her mother however is and has always been harder work, a little selfish and definitely self centrered, slowly chasing her kids away with her behaviour, Anaya has never forgotten her birth mother and has tried to find her and her birth father. Donovan has blamed himself for many years for the death of someone under his protection, apart from his daughter and her step-dad he has no close relationships, doesn't date because he doesn't feel worthy. This story has many levels and elements, twists and turns. Threats and violence, tears and pain. Sometimes letting go of something toxic is necessary, while finding something better or re-finding is what's needed. I felt for both characters, there was a strong attraction and connection and while one faught for the other against, both had things in their lives good and bad and just needed to find a way through and come out stronger and together at the end. Emotional rollercoaster with a lot of action and some pretty full on scenes, best though was the happy ending.
Anaya is Nadia’s sister whom we met in the previous book of this series❣️She is visiting Nadia and Callum in Crimson Point and needs someone to attend work talks with her due to a lawyer, who has harassed her in the past😢 Callum is unfortunately not available to help her out so he suggests Donovan.
Anaya has met Donovan once before and since then can’t get him out of her mind, however, the attraction is much stronger now than then and even though he hasn’t indicated he’s interested in her at all, he soon makes his feelings known. Danger however, plagues them and it soon becomes clear someone is targeting Anaya and they return to Crimson Point. However, more danger is afoot and Donovan is worried about what will happen to Anaya if they don’t figure out exactly what’s going on❣️
This book also introduces the next couple Grady and Everleigh. I’m looking forward to their book but I know it’s going to be heartbreaking💔 I’m also hoping the book after that is Walker’s and Ivy especially after their back and forth conversations😉 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
When successful engineer Anaya Bishop’s boss requests her presence at a high-level meeting in Seattle, she asks a favor from her sister’s fiance, Callum Falconer, and Crimson Point Security. She needs someone to run interference in case one of the lawyers she had problems with a few years ago starts to cause problems again and she is also meeting her biological father for the first time. With Callum unavailable, Donovan Myers will take his place. These two had met briefly before and both had made an impression on the other. Unfortunately, Donovan was determined to keep things professional, she is first his boss’s future sister-in-law, second a potential client, and lastly he is not the hero she sees him as. But when a series of incidents occur during and after their trip that places Anaya in danger, Donovan’s protective instinct kicks into high gear.
In true Kaylea Cross fashion, Protective Impulse is filled with great characters, emotional backstories, and edge-of-your-seat suspense. Both Anaya and Donovan had very difficult pasts, so to see these two give each other exactly what they need to heal, was fantastic to see. This was a great read. I am now so excited about the upcoming stories for some of the secondary characters we met.
Protective impulse is the 5th book in Crimson Point protectors series. Wow, the first chapter made me cry and a few more tears along the way. Anaya is Nadia’s sister and we met her in the previous book. Donovan becomes her bodyguard when she needs protection against someone who harassed her in the past. Donovan and Anaya met before and there was mutual attraction but Donovan wants to keeps things professional. When danger follows them to Crimson Point Donovan finds it harder and harder to keep his distance from Anaya and he will do anything to keep her safe. This book is another awesome addition to the series! It’s about healing and forgiveness emotional and suspenseful and because of the multiple suspects it keeps you guessing who is targeting Anaya. It’s great to meet up with previous characters. We got a heartbreaking glimpse of the next book and I’m really looking forward to read it! I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion.
I’m a long-time fan of romantic suspense books and Kaylea Cross. She writes edge-of-your-seat romantic thrillers I can’t seem to stop devouring. She’s on the short list of authors I 1-click without reading a blurb. With Protective Impulse, the fifth Crimson Point Protectors book, she takes us back to Crimson Point, giving us a fresh new story. It is a standalone title, so you don’t have to read any of her other books to enjoy this one.
Even with some good red herrings, the ultimate villain wasn’t surprising but knowing who it was didn’t keep me from loving the story. This book was angsty, emotional, and action-packed. And as usual, I didn’t want to walk away from it until I finished. Protective Impulse is just one more reason Kaylea Cross is a top favorite of mine!
Anaya Bishop and Donovan Myers noticed each other after the rescue of her sister, but haven’t been around each other since. Anaya is now in need of someone intimidating to be with her at meetings that require her attendance. Donovan is the only available Crimson Point Security members that is available for the assignment. Over the course of a long work weekend, an attempt is made on Anaya’s life and Donovan is determined to keep their relationship professional. However, the situation becomes even scarier for the both of them. Donovan is terrified of his past coming to haunt him and is determined to keep Anaya away from him in order to save her. Love will heal a lot, but first, you have to take a chance.
Ok, this story by Kaylea was intense right from the beginning. This one is about Anaya and Donavan. Anaya had a rough start to her young life. She was one of the lucky ones to be adopted into a big family but her adopted mother had become toxic. As a grown woman she has trouble with certain people but is quickly calmed by Donavan, who she hires as bodyguard. The rest as they say is history as these two got together. There is definitely a lot of tense moments throughout this book - many happy as well as sad. Great book! FANTASTIC job Kaylea! I would highly recommend this book!
Ayana and Donavan. What a busy story. Danger is present, but who is it and why surrounds a lot of the story. We see estranged family, new family, blended families and chosen family. The danger brings them together and past danger tries to tear them apart. Donavan’s story regarding his daughter, guilt and background is made clear and Ayana’s role and family background shared. The ending is touching and we also see many of my series favorites with Ivy and Callum. Nadia is also present and much easier to handle. Some cute moments and new storylines for upcoming books? Can’t wait!
This was yet another page turning book from this talented author. While it wasn't necessarily my favourite of the series, it still captivated me from cover to cover. It was jam packed with twists and red herrings to continually throw you off the scent and keep you on your toes. I definitely adored that aspect. I always love coming back to Crimson Point and catching up with beloved characters and meeting some new ones. With several interesting scenes in this book I can't wait to see what the author comes up with next.
Donovan and Anaya's story was intriguing and good. You can't help but feel for them both. Donovan has so much guilt that he carries, though moving to Crimson Point, is starting to help. He is closer now to his daughter. His boss has an assignment for him to accompany his sister in law and keep her safe from a creeper in Seattle. Anaya is happy Donovan accepts her as a client. She has never forgotten Donovan. Though danger lurks, the past unravels with the present creating worse situations.
Another great story from the fabulous imagination of Kayla Cross. The Crimson Point series is one that I never expected to be so good but it is. This story focuses on Donovan and Nadia’s sister Anaya who is visiting and going to a conference. A lawyer who is harassing her will be there so she hires Donovan as a bodyguard. She’s also going to meet her birth father. I loved the story and the characters. It’s an excellent read with romance, suspense and mystery thrown in.
Donovan won't think of a future with anyone except his daughter Shea. He had a rough x with thinking bad of himself cause of the past. But is he rt. Or is he wrong? Some xs the past can haunt and I think with the help of Walker and friends things can change. He has a job 2 watch over Nadia's sister. But when things get out of control when she is doing thongs 4 work, what's going on? Read and find out. She is adopted but guess who works on her in a way that she's shocked about. But in the end what happens? It helped her.
This series has all the feelings, fear, love, anger and sooo much more. This book definitely covered them all! Anaya is brilliant and has an important job, unfortunately that sometimes brings the creeps out. When she has to go to a business event she hires one of her brother in law’s friends as her bodyguard. The same friend that she might have a little chemistry with…oh this should be interesting! Donovan has seen a lot and done a lot with his military career now he wants to enjoy his time with his daughter and do his job. When he goes on a business trip with Anaya he is in for a bit of trouble. Not only is there a guy giving Anaya a hard time, she is meeting with her father that she doesn’t know well, he has feelings for Anaya that he doesn’t know how to handle and is there other dangers out there? Kaylea doesn’t not disappoint, this is another extremely well written page turner with a lot going on. The characters have great depth and are telling an amazing story and of course they have a strong support system if they need it. This series and this author never fail. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Anaya was given up for adoption when she was six years old. She became an engineer and wanted to make her mothers sacrifice mean something. She comes to Crimson Point to see her sister and attend some meetings in Seattle. When one of the lawyers harasses her, she hires a bodyguard. Donavan was a former Army Ranger, then a US Marshall and now works as a bodyguard for Crimson Point Security. He had a witness die while a Marshall and thinks he's no good for anyone. Anaya and Donavan have been attracted to each other but he doesn't let anything interfere with his job, so she is off limits. ( Plus being his boss's future sister in law ). But someone is after her and Donavan will do anything to keep her safe because its about to get serious.
I really loved this story but there were so many different points of view. I read this in just a couple of hours because I couldn't put it down. Action. A little sex. Suspense. A man who won't forgive himself for the past. A woman who just wants someone to love and love her.
* Received a copy from Bookfunnel and voluntarily read and reviewed it *
I really enjoyed this read. There was definitely a lot of pain and a lot of healing that was needed for these characters. Definitely a slow burn but well worth the wait.
This story had a lot of suspense I found. Just when I think I got It figured out something makes me question myself.
I loved that we keep seeing the previous characters and that their story are still developing with each new book.
I have loved every Kaylea Cross book I've read and this one is no different. She can write suspense romance like no other. I loved Anaya and Donovan's story! The journey they take in this one is so good. I was glued to this book. I also love how there is such a community with the characters in this series. You get to see past characters throughout the books and also gives you a glimpse of after the HEA. Totally recommend this author.
It's finally Donovan's story and wow! One of the most intriguing characters yet. I loved his and Anaya's journey. Full of action, suspense, intrigue, sexy romance, angst, and twists this one will keep you engaged. I was so invested in the outcome! And a little stunned by all the reveals. I think one of my favorite parts was mention of characters from another of this author's series. I can't wait to see how that plays out! Anyone else chomping at the bit for Walker?
This book had me between tears and then smiling, it takes you on a roller coaster ride that kept me turning the pages. How can two people who are so opposite make it work? Grab the book and join the fans of Kaylea Cross as she writes this series. You will not be disappointed; I highly recommend this book.
A wonderful story with lots of suspense and great characters. This story is well plotted, vividly written with twists and turns. With the first few words I wanted to know more about this story and I could not put it down. Donovan and Anaya’s story is a fantastic read I enjoyed very much. Romantic suspense to the max.
Protective Impulse is a suspenseful, action packed page turner. Donovan and Anaya's story has it all. Wonderful characters we get to revisit from other books, heartbreak, romance, danger, and of course action and suspense. These two are perfect for each other and I love that Anaya helps Donovan heal. Looking forward to the next book.
I've loved this entire series and this book is another great addition to the series. Anaya and Donovan's story takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, it has everything. Edge of your seat suspense, romance, twists and turns I never saw coming. Great book and another great addition to the series!
This book was a fabulous addition to the series. I loved these two, Donovan and Anaya, together as the balanced each other out. They both had their own journeys to take which brought them full circle and coming home. There was also flashes of what’s to come in the next two books. I can’t wait!
I love this series, but I am torn on this one. While it was enjoyable, it didn't keep me engaged throughout. I liked the plot and characters, but at times it moved slow. In most series there is one story that just doesn't thrill you, and this is the one for me. It happens, but if you love the series as much as I do, please read it and judge for yourself.
Very good read. Not as exciting as book 4. Still I enjoyed this story and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I will definitely read this entire series. Looking forward to reading more books by Kaylea cross.
