A disgraced attorney seeking redemption. A single mother desperate to regain custody of her son. Two women willing to risk it all to put a sexual predator behind bars.

Former Assistant District Attorney Miranda Quinn is on the brink of a career comeback when she gets a phone call. When it comes to the law, Miranda has all the answers, but the questions are getting harder and the stakes are getting higher. The dangerous web of lies and cover-ups she exposes leaves her questioning just how much she is willing to risk. She has the right to remain silent, but needs to speak up… doesn’t she?

Former Assistant District Attorney Miranda Quinn's life is on the brink of a major turnaround. She lost her job when a witness in a rape case was a no-show. The accused got off. Her relationship with her boyfriend ended. But her legal blog turned podcast, which she started after being fired, was popular enough to secure her a shot at her own television show. Everything was looking up when Becky, the witness who bailed on her, calls and tells her that the rapist has made another attack. And she wants to testify. Miranda is drawn back into the world she left and learns more about why her original case fell apart. All while jeopardizing her exciting new career.

Miranda Writes is a sharp, intelligent legal thriller I couldn't put down. Miranda is an appealing character to root for. I particularly loved Miranda's retired cop, widowed father. Author Gail Ward Olmsted has created an intriguing story with effective twists and turns, which added good suspense. This fast-paced book was a satisfying read about lies, betrayal and second chances. I'm hoping this becomes a series.

Many thanks to the author and Black Rose Writing for the opportunity to read this impressive book in advance of its publication.

Crime Drama. Deceit. Betrayal. A pinch of Romance. Justice.

Gail Ward Olmsted brings her beautiful story telling and writing to a new crime drama, and boy am I hooked! This fast paced book follows Miranda and her super powers - empathy and justice! This attorney has had a rough go when she was let go from her job, after a key witness disappeared and she was blamed for it. Years later, the violent man who got away with assault is back at it, but her key witness has come back as well. Miranda is determined to help these girls, put this man away, and get justice for the betrayal that ruined her thriving career.

Overall, a fantastic read! I hope Gail turns this into a series. I binged this book so fast and I just could not put it down. I highly recommend it if you love a good crime drama.

Five out of five stars.

Mix romance, a little suspense, and quick wit, and you get Miranda Writes.

I was hooked on this book from the get go. Miranda is a lawyer that was somewhat disgraced when she worked for the ADA's office. She moved to writing a blog and doing a podcast to address legal scenarios, which made her happy. Now she has been signed by a broadcasting company to do a live show, and she is beyond thrilled. However, the case that threw a wrench into her life has circled back around, and Miranda is in the middle of things, but not necessarily in a good way.

I enjoyed this fast-paced novel that had me wondering who was involved in the coverup from years ago, who was terrorizing Miranda, and would she overcome everything that was being thrown at her. I was quite surprised at different turns of events as Miranda learned the truth about what happened three years ago. While I sympathized with Miranda, some of her actions didn't make much sense. Everything hinges on one witness, yet when she doesn't respond, she doesn't go find out what happened to her? And when she meets a new guy, Eric, she practically falls into bed with him the first moment they are alone. So while I enjoyed the storyline and uncovering the truth, Miranda's actions at times were puzzling, to say the least.

There are some twists that I didn't expect that just added to the depth of the story. I liked that several people got what was coming to them, and they were brought to justice.

We give this book 4 paws up.

Miranda Writes by Gail Ward Olmsted is a story of how far we'll go to protect those we love and the power of second chances. Former Assistant District Attorney Miranda Quinn is on the brink of a career comeback when she gets a phone call. It's a witness who disappeared three years earlier, resulting in a violent criminal going free.

A very good legal story that sucks you in from the first page. The suspense is well crafted, and the author does have a flair for writing a fast-paced thriller.

I would give this a solid 4 out of 5 stars. The reason for the one-star drop is because the dialogue taglines became frustrating because there were times it was difficult to know who was talking, and I had to go back several times to figure out which character was talking and interacting with the other character.

Miranda Writes is a compelling legal thriller with so many twists and turns I couldn’t stop turning pages. The main character, Miranda Quinn, is embarking on a new career, when a person from her past shows up, and her life becomes a tangled mess of lies and deception, threatening everything she has worked for. Miranda was a fascinating character, as were all of the supporting cast in this intriguing novel.

Vanish, anonymous tip, tampering?…

Miranda, a former assistant district attorney for ten years, was fired when Becky, a key witness for a trial disappeared. A brutal criminal was allowed to go free- he later attacked another person.

“Miranda Writes” , her blog and podcast has filled the void for the last three years. A hosting job on a daytime tv show is now in the talking stages.

And now the violent criminal has struck again. Will Becky get another chance to testify? Will he go to trial?

Threats, vandalism, betrayal, trials, lawsuit, romance — this one has them all!

Why did Becky, the key witness disappear?

Who is behind the threats and vandalism aimed at Miranda?

What caused the turnarounds in this story?

* Many twists — clever!

* A fun read — humorous in parts.

* A story of second chances…

* I would read future books by this author. I see another book about Miranda is due to come out in July 2023.

* I first saw a review on GR, which led me to buy the book.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I read this book at the beach on a sunny day. Under clear skies with a view of the ocean whose color was closer to the blue on this cover. I don't think that this is a beach read but I made it one. Miranda Writes is a story about a disgraced attorney who is trying to get her life back on track all while helping to put a serial rapist in prison.

The story is told by Miranda who is going through a lot. If it was not one thing it was another. I honestly felt sorry for the poor woman. There was so much drama, chaos, and betrayal in just the first few chapters. The book is classified as a Mystery &/ Thriller but I didn't get any of that.

Even with everything happening, I didn't feel any suspense or heightened emotion that something high stakes was happening. This had more to do with the fact that all the conflict was solved immediately. The issues did not stick around long enough to elicit any emotion.

To me this is a contemporary story about second chances, family, love, and justice. It is a book about characters ( not just Miranda) who are picking themselves up and trying to create a new life. In relation to the characters, I did not feel one way or the other about them. They didn't bore or excite me. However, I was rooting for Miranda the entire time.

Towards the end I wish the book was longer. There had been all this buildup but the ending felt rushed. Everything was resolved too quickly and all at once which made it all anticlimactic.

Miranda Writes” introduces readers to Miranda Quinn, a former Assistant District Attorney, struck with a career-ending situation several years ago. Recently, Miranda has been hitting the airwaves with a podcast and a blog that explains the law in layman’s terms and is about to be put on the small screen with her own daytime television show. A phone call from a witness from a case from three years ago is about to set Miranda’s new life into a whirlwind. Will Miranda be able to face her past and her future and survive it all?

The basic plot of “Miranda Writes” is a good one. A blast from the past which sets her life upside down is now threatening her future. Mix in an ex who was a bigger part of the career-ending situation than Miranda even realized. Add in a little romance and a best friend. It all makes for an entertaining story. The plot is solid and enjoyable to read.

The characterization of Miranda was mixed. One minute, she is a smart lawyer is on top of everything and the next minute, she’s an emotional roller coaster. It just did not make sense to this reviewer. For example, this witness who called her from out of the blue disappeared several years ago, and this witness’s disappearance is what caused Miranda to be fired. If you know that this witness has a habit of disappearing and is not responding to your calls and texts, why do you wait for days until you go to where this witness is supposed to be? These inconsistencies weakened what could be a really strong character.

The ending where there is a trial will probably rub most lawyers the wrong way. This reader does not think that the trial would have ended the way that it did in “Miranda Writes.” The author does make a disclaimer in the beginning that if anything is wrong regarding the legal issues in this novel, then she is at fault.

Overall, “Miranda Writes” is an enjoyable book if one reads it for the point of entertainment, not to see if a fictional author got facts correct. This reader did feel the need to keep reading just to see what happened with Miranda and all of the other characters.

I almost didn’t finish reading this book after the first chapter. It packed a powerful punch and I wasn’t sure if my timing was right for this book. But it was. This book was fantastic. Olmsted introduces us to Miranda, an up-and-coming law blogger and podcaster gearing up for her first daytime television show. But when a witness from a past case shows up unexpectedly, her world is turned upside down. What comes next is a series of events that has you turning the pages as fast as you can. There’s drama and suspense, there’s family and love and most importantly, there’s a whole lot of self-discovery. I’ve already shared it as a First Page Friday book inside my Get Lit(erate) community and am recommending it widely. I enjoyed every page.

Miranda Writes
Gail Ward Olmsted

Review by Barbara Bamberger Scott

When a strong-minded woman tries to overcome the problems of the past, she is suddenly hit with a greater dilemma, one she can’t ignore, that may destroy the new future she had planned, in this latest offering by novelist Gail Ward Olmsted.

Attorney Miranda Quinn has been blogging and garnering a wide following, resulting in a TV show offer she has accepted with enthusiasm. But just on the brink of this new endeavor, Quinn gets a call from a young woman whose actions contributed to the loss of her former position as an Assistant District Attorney. Becky dredges up her shared past with Quinn, revealing facts so eerie that they can’t be ignored. Becky, and now Miranda, hold out new hope that at last a career criminal might get what he deserves after multiple rapes and beatings of innocent women. But to help Becky present her suspicions to the legal establishment could blitz Quinn’s new job prospects. In making the right decision, the former attorney-turned-writer will be risking more than just the career challenge; there is an ex-boyfriend lurking on the sidelines ready to do anything to protect himself from Miranda’s investigations.

Olmsted is a former professional in business and education who has, rather like her gutsy heroine, forged a new path for herself as a wordsmith. Her settings have ranged from the deserts of Arizona (Jeep Tour) to the green spaces destined to house America’s great parks (Landscape of a Marriage). In Miranda Writes, the title a take-off on well-known legal terminology, Olmsted displays a wide knowledge of America’s laws and those who uphold them, as well as those scurrilous characters who choose to defy them. The minute-by-minute workings of Miranda Quinn’s mind depict a courageous woman’s inner conflict – contemplating the sacrifice of all that she has striven personally to accomplish, yet determined to do right and bring an evil man to his just reward. Becky shines, too, as someone who has improved herself and is not afraid to speak out when necessary. Miranda’s father, an ex-lawman, provides tough and at times humorous support. And there is romance in the cards, too, as Miranda grasps the increasingly shaky reins of her new career.

Olmsted has clearly done diligent research in the creation of this action-packed, legal thriller. Miranda Writes is sure to amply reward her established fan base and create new readership in the process.

Miranda Quinn knows all about reinvention. Two years ago, she was on the verge of putting sexual predator Terry Kane behind bars. All she needed was testimony from her key witness, Becky. But then, Becky disappeared, and the District Attorney blamed Miranda when he discovered that Miranda was involved with Adam, a lawyer on the defense team for Terry Kane. Miranda insisted that Adam had nothing to do with Becky’s disappearance, but she loses her job, nonetheless.
Shortly after, her relationship with Adam falls apart. She quickly suspects of him duplicity, though she isn’t sure of the specifics. So, they break up, and Miranda moves home with her dad. After consuming a lot of ice cream and even more wine, Miranda picks herself up and starts a “Dear Abby” type of blog that offers legal advice. That leads to a podcast, which in turn leads to her own daytime TV show. Everything is great, until Terry Kane apparently has a new victim. In addition, Becky returns. And she has a story to tell.

That is the setup for Gail Olmsted’s riveting new novel, Miranda Writes. In Miranda/Miranda, Olmsted has created a thoroughly likeable and relatable heroine who is smart, savvy, and strong. Yet, she is also wonderfully flawed, warm, and generous. I could totally relate to Miranda’s addiction to carbs (that made me laugh several times) and her conflicting desires to advance her TV career and to do the right thing by helping Becky and putting away Terry Kane. Then there’s the villainous Adam, who has met his match with Miranda. The storyline, supporting characters, and Northeast setting provides a great backdrop that has ample opportunity for subplots, atmosphere, and humor.

In the end, I loved the feminist/girl-power message, and I was impressed with Olmsted’s adeptness at incorporating her legal knowledge into the narrative. The story kept me guessing, laughing, and occasionally gasping. Fans of Janet Evanovich will enjoy this riveting tale of finding your strength and using your power. I hope Miranda Quinn returns for a sequel!

I generally shun carnival rides with the ups and downs and round and rounds. To my delight, however, Miranda Writes, took me on a carnival ride that had me begging for one more spin, one more loop, in the highs and lows of Miranda, “Randi”, Quinn’s legal work on behalf of her client and her own career.

After losing a high-profile case she prosecuted as an Assistant State Attorney when her star witness disappears before giving testimony, Randi hits her first low, retreating as a 36-year-old to the comfort of her childhood home and a non-judgmental welcome from her widowed, retired cop father. A year passes before she summons words to start a blog and re-discover and re-claim her voice as a lawyer. The blog turns into a podcast; a contract for a television show soon ensues. The highs are back on track. Life is good. But when news hits that the defendant who walked from her lost case abuses another woman and the lost star witness resurfaces, it’s time to strap on the safety harness and prepare for another spin around the wheel of complicity, witness tampering, self-doubt, and mistrust.

Gail Ward Olmsted’s characterization of Randi reminds us we are all flawed. Each of us can devolve into the abyss of self-pity, but through self-examination and support of family and close friends, we can pull ourselves up and out of holes to new lights and heights. Randi is the type of lawyer every woman needs, advocating for justice in exposing and claiming the truth. Support characters each have their role to play and Olmstead crafts them with precision to provide contrast. From Becky, the single mother / high school drop-out / former drug user star witness, to the suburban housewife best friend, Tracey, to the smirky, loathsome ex-boyfriend, Adam, their juxtapositions in their relationships to Randi snaps together like puzzle pieces.

I enjoyed Miranda Writes as a quick read which begs for a sequel. What type of carnival ride will Randi “Quinn for the Win” seat herself upon next?

Quinn for the Win

We are all vulnerable, and bad things happen. When those who have harmed us are made to face the consequences of their actions, we call it karma. Another word for this is justice. This is the appeal of legal fiction. We want to know that somehow, things are going to work out. Gail Olmsted’s Miranda Writes, a bit of wordplay on The Miranda Decision, fits neatly into this category of legal fiction.

Bringing a serial rapist to justice was a run of the mill courtroom case for attorney Miranda Quinn. At least it started out that way. Without warning, however, the case goes horribly wrong, and Miranda finds herself a victim in her own rights, as unknown forces target both her and her career. Fighting to regain everything she appears to have lost has put her in the same league as those she has defended, and she begins a journey to find out who she really is, what she stands for, what she’s willing to fight for, and what her future will be.

Olmsted has created a character who is both sympathetic and believable, and we’re sitting in the courtroom, waiting for the drama to play out and hoping good will triumph over evil. Highly recommended.

Tightly plotted narrative will suck you in from the first page and take you on a fast-paced ride to the finish.
Miranda Quin was creating a name for herself as a district attorney in a high-powered rape case when a disappearing witness pulls the rug out from under her, leaving her personal and professional life in tatters. After flailing for a year, she put her life back together with a successful blog and podcast and now her dreams are about to come true, she’s been offered a day time television spot. But trouble raises its head when her missing witness resurfaces with a shocking revelation.
I really enjoyed Miranda Writes, a clever mystery with enough surprises to keep the reader guessing. It’s a smart story with a snappy flow. The MC is engaging and sympathetic and she’s supported by a fun cast of characters including her dad, a retired policeman, who I really liked. There is also a bit of romance which comes in closer to the end but is enough to satisfy romance readers.
Readers of Women’s Fiction/Contemporary Fiction will fall for Miranda Writes.

This book was thoroughly enjoyable. I read it in a day, so that shows it is a fast read. The main character is Miranda, who is down on her luck from chapter one. A lawyer, who gets the shaft by her boyfriend Adam. Her and Adam live together and he is also a lawyer working hard to get partner at a major law firm in the city.

The author shows the demise of her career, the sadness she had basically shut off from the world for 8 months. She tries to rebound and blog her way into sanity. It works until it doesn't. The case that haunted her comes back. It all begins now. A dark terrifying creep named Kane, his victims and the lawyer that may be able to save the day.

Aside from the main plot the author wonderfully weaves Miranda/Randi's father into the book. We see some snippets of his life, comradery of other retired cops and his girlfriend, who I enjoyed.
I very good legal thriller! It is not out until September though

This book is a strong 5 star for me! The protagonist, Miranda, is fighting to turn her life and legal career around by embarking into blogging, podcasts, and a future as a TV host. Everything is lining up perfectly until the witness who disappeared without a trace three years ago turns up with some startling revelations. The exciting adventures that follow are told with wit, charm, and talent. Miranda is a great character: strong, funny, and perseverant, and the rest of the characters are also perfectly developed. Don’t look any further if you’re searching for a can’t-put-it-down novel.
I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this novel.

I enjoyed this legal mystery. Miranda is a likeable character who sometimes shows poor judgement. After being let go from her job, she is finally back on track only to hear from a witness from the past. The story was interesting and I felt bad for Miranda who seemed to get the bad end of the stick over and over. The characters were interesting and realistic, the plot was suspenseful and overall the book was entertaining. I would recommend it to readers who enjoy flawed characters that are looking for their break. I received a free copy of this book from AXP and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

on KU, if you have that service. out on September 8, 2022. i was contact by Gail, that's so lucky to me ...i love it when an author or even their peeps contact me and say please check out this book. i think that is just so gracious. i have closed down my book blog, maybe in the days going forward i will do something else? or even reopen a similar book blog. i don't know. i do still have my traveling blog. but it was a waste on the book blog. i just didn't have the visits i had hope for. i think or wonder how folks are doing blogging these days. i don't do FB anymore. i am over them. as well as on instagram. i keep getting hey, u have not been on there in a while this is what is happening. i don't them at all. u do you and you enjoy what you enjoy. but for me i prefer using my time somewhere else. my mom does not get it? she is still on those and enjoys them. no judgement just, feel for myself i do enjoy my time in other places (be it chores, things i love, reading, whatever it might be. in time that may change or whatnot??!). not sure you noticed? but i had it named "Hike to Forty", (i did change it to just E Reads, but u probably get my point) then i am now 44 and so many days so it didn't seem as wild as it once did. then i couldn't figure out why Amazon took away my rights to review anything on their website, i think it is odd and i think truly something is off or wrong there??! u might ask then why the heck do you still socialize (you should have seen how i spelled that word, man oh man i am not the best speller, thank the heavens we have speller checker, i wish we would have had that when i was a kid in the early 80's. i had to use a dictionary and look each and every word i didn't know ...nowadays just the spell checker works it out. so cool!!) with them, well i have a kindle and i really have no desire to buy another book like kindle substitute, i am not made out of doe. but i still find it really odd. and i will continue to use Goodreads. thank the heavens they have not kick me out. personally, i think a person, a real person who can review things, HONESTLY ...i mean don't hurt feelings but be true to how you feel ...that is the person u wanna listen to. i saw a YouTuber say something about being an influencers is the place to be ...but honestly i disagree ...there are can i think of any1 on YT that i truly listen to?? nope, not really ...like everything else i take them all with a grain of salt and that is just the person i am. u should look at any reviews and make your own call. if you can read it without spending a BIG amount then go for it. i truly believe depending on where you are in life, a book might take on a different appearance to you, you might connect, might not, whatever ...u know how it is when you re-read a book at a different age, i love doing that. ones i really love ...it is like you recognize things maybe you didn't see or connect with like in the past. it is so fun!! i think this is the 3rd book i have read by Gail. my Gayle is spelled that way. but either way i will follow Gail's anywhere. kind of like Elizabeth or Elisabeth. i think we have a bond due to our similar names. if you get it, you do, if not ...don't worry about it!! LOL!! any who ... what a read. there were moments, that i did feel my emotions pulled. tissues please. like i always say you no matter what season, certain books are felt in different ways ..i've always been an emotional person, i feel for others. not sure how you will take those moments? you see. please check out Gail's writing. she is awesome! she rocks! i will always take the time to be thankful for her books and be allowed to see them. so lucky me. have a blessed day. if you know Beth, i do love "thrillers". this is a "legal thriller". i always imagined that i would be a person who would do some kind of work in that field but i am not sure i would cut it, would i be a crying mess?? how do folks do it??! i think if i had to protect the ones i love, i would go far. i think all folks deserve and need 2nd chances. we all do. we are human after all.

... "a story of how far we'll go to protect those we love and the power to second chances"...

can someone explain what a person is to do with kindle ...i see you are no longer allowed to use "mobi files" ...i got an email from Amazon saying you have to do something else??! WHAT?? epub. i i was reading a book by Nina Levine and she had a bit that once you had finished that book to get it through an email ...so i did the epub and so far i have yet to get an email from Amazon saying anything ...like lately if you send yourself an mobi file you quickly get an email saying we NO LONGER SUPPORT mobi files. i think that is an Amazon problem not mine, why do they always make it so frustrating. think it was??? (have you been keeping up with my Amazon woes never ending, i enjoy my kindle and it is what i use on the daily. unless i win book through Goodreads, i do use Book of The Month, so they are always hard back books which is my ultimate favorite you know that!! they are awesome!! but for some reason they are keep billing me for books that are KU and thank the heavens i am noticing these fees so i have to call and talk to the folks in the ebooks department and say hey that was meant to be KU not charging me. i don't get it. and you no longer or i can no longer review side note but point is i could at one time go on my ebook section and return a book for a refund myself now they i have to call, not sure what has changed??! weirdos. i miss the good ole' days of Amazon when they were more kind, understanding and would listen to the people like myself who buy all across the board and wanted true reviews HONEST reviews not the one-star reviews but giving a real reason why you love or not love something and whatnot. why is that wrong. apparently i can still review the sellers i am not sure why that is any different?? i will always use seller over if they are selling what i might need. i always say that. only had issues with books sellers who say they will sell me a book but then come to find out they don't have that book? then why were you say you had to sell? and send me another book completely? what?? so strange. right?? i think so.) please let me know. even email me: elizard breath speaks @ gmail . com

If you're a lover of legal dramas with a Law and Order-esque feel, this book is totally for you!

Miranda Quinn finally has her life on track after a star witness disappeared on the eve trial three years ago leaving her career with DA's office a thing of the past and her heart split in pieces after the eventual breakup with her long term partner. Now, Miranda's legal podcast and blog have taken off - so much so, that the Sterling Broadcast Group has offered Miranda a once in a lifetime opportunity to be the star of her own daytime television show bringing legal advice to the masses. But when Miranda's former star witness turns up out of the blue with a wild story about her disappearance and a new baby on her hip to boot, Miranda's luck may have run out... again.

I love books that have multiple facets and this one brought all the best stuff - a trial, an investigation, a strong female lead, potentially unreliable characters, and a redemption story. We had villains, we had power house lawyers, we had strong women who paved their own paths, we had old time cops that played by the rules, and we had love, romance, and family.

This book kept me on my toes. With Becky feeling unreliable at best, Miranda having way too many balls in the air, and new drama with every page, this was a fun and quick read.

As a legal professional, admittedly, I had to suspend belief and "just go with it" on several occasions, but ultimately, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the novel.

There was a lot to love about this book and I'm excited to see where this story goes (there's a sequel!!) and to read more by Olmsted.

Gail Ward Olmstead sets her most recent novel, Miranda Writes, in Connecticut, where we meet Assistant District Attorney Miranda Quinn. Besides being an attorney with an outstanding conviction record, who “rocked in the courtroom,” she also has a podcast, Miranda Writes. The podcast provides legal advice, interviews experts, and presents valuable information on all matters legal.

The narrative unravels when we read about the Kane rape trial. Miranda is on a mission to seek justice for the nineteen-year-old victim, Chelsea O’Hara, who had been battered and raped. However, she acknowledges the case is weak as no witnesses have appeared. The assailant would never be prosecuted.

A short time after, law enforcement receive an unidentified call from a young lady informing them that the description of the man who attacked Chelsea matched the same person who attacked her. The call originated from an outside phone booth. The police can track down the booth, which brings them to Becky Lewis. Becky had left her fingerprints in the booth. In addition, she was recently arrested for shoplifting; a criminal record is on the file containing her fingerprints.

Becky and Chelsea are bought in by the police, and both identify high school photos of Terry Kane as their attacker. He is brought in for questioning, and the girls pick him out in a lineup as being their assailant. The case is now looking up for Miranda, and she feels it is a “slam dunk.” After all, wasn’t she known among her colleagues as “Quinn for the Win?”

Her strategy was to have Becky on the witness stand and describe what happened to her while revealing to the jury that it was Kane who brutally assaulted her. However, as the poet Robert Burns once wrote: “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” When Miranda goes to the motel, where she hid Becky the night before the trial, Becky has vanished into thin air! The trial against Terry Kane is thrown out, and he walks away a free man. As for Miranda, she loses her job.

Adding a little more spice to the plot, we discover that Miranda’s boyfriend, Adam Baxter, was an attorney in the law firm that was defending Kane at the time of the trial. As the yarn advances, it is revealed that he is only out for his own gain and doesn’t care whom he hurts. Nothing will prevent him from attaining a partnership in his firm.

Fast forward three years, where the plot takes a twist. Miranda receives a startling phone call from Becky. She explains to Miranda that her sister, Rachel, has informed her of a young girl who was raped in a park. Becky was positive that Kane was involved in the most recent rape. Becky further discloses some alarming information regarding Miranda’s former boyfriend, Adam, concerning his participation in Kane's previous trial.

Miranda is now determined that she must meet with Becky as soon as possible. She is also surprised by how one phone call could transform her life. After being discharged as Assistant District Attorney, Miranda was dedicating a good chunk of her time to her podcast, filling a gap in her life. The podcast had been top-rated, and she was offered her own daytime television show. Finally, her life seems to be coming together. Will she be able to make amends for having previously screwed up an important case, allowing a vicious criminal go free? Will any more surprises await her?

Olmstead has crafted a tale of betrayal driven by a flowing narrative style and a fast moving plot with realistic dialogue that gives it the grip of a thriller. The suspense is worth several cups of coffee that will undoubtedly keep you up at night.

A well written legal thriller with a dash of romance.

I really enjoyed this book. The lead character, Miranda, was a fighter and came across as a woman you would want to be friends with. There was great chemistry among the other characters, especially between Miranda and Eric. The plot was intriguing and you never really knew where it was gonna go as the author kept adding twists and turns. The courtroom ending was explosive, and a lot of fun for the reader who can’t wait for a character to get theirs. The author’s writing kept the story moving and the pages turning.

Miranda, who was an assistant state’s attorney, was assigned a case where a young girl was assaulted and raped. Determined to put the assailant behind bars even though the case was weak to begin with, Miranda does what she can to help this innocent girl. When the case falls apart, the defendant goes free, and Miranda is fired after it comes out that she was having a relationship with the lawyer who represented the defendant. Miranda makes an effort to move on and in doing so she creates a podcast called Miranda Writes. After three years a victim of the case Miranda was on comes forward to say that the defendant has struck again. Miranda must decide between going after the defendant or continuing on with her rise to success by taking an offer to host a daytime TV show.

Author Gail Ward has created a compelling legal thriller that is as bold as it is entertaining. The author writes sharp dialogue which feels authentic and pulls you into this emotionally invigorating crime thriller. The author paints realistic courtroom scenes; utilizing obvious experience with the subject matter to make the legal drama feel grounded even when the intrigue is high.

Miranda is a character I was immediately intrigued by and empathized with, which I think is why I clung so tightly to the book when the twists started coming. I enjoyed reading about Miranda’s character as she is tenacious, smart, and devoted to her clients. Readers are immediately immersed in the plot and the story takes off with only the occasional respite for some background information.

One thing that stood out to me the most with this book is how there is a balance of emotions in this book, making it way more accessible and entertaining then your average legal thriller where everyone is constantly brooding. The book has its sad moments, but there are also moments of levity where humor is used to great effect, and even made me laugh out loud a few times. The author takes the reader on an emotional rollercoaster that winds through love, hate, fear of the unknown, and anxiety.

Miranda Writes, by Gail Ward Olmsted, has well developed characters and an engaging plot that will have you hooked as you are taken on this tense journey to put Chelsea and Becky’s rapist behind bars. For me, this is the year’s stand out legal thriller.

Outstanding! You will not be disappointed.

From the few chapters I knew that the book and story would be outstanding. I was not disappointed. Down on her luck attorney Miranda Quinn has seen her career and life literally implode. She lost her job. Her fiancé. Her future plans. And a rapist was set free. After a period of time licking her wounds, Miranda reassesses her life and is finally getting everything back on track. She has bult a successful following for her blog and podcast, and is on the cusp of obtaining her own daytime television show. The prime witness in a previous case that led to her career downfall and life imploding is back, and the truth of what happened years ago is slowly unearthed. Just as everything is going her way in this new life and the career she has built, Miranda cannot let the past remain in the past. She must understand why her prime witness vanished if she is to understand why her career as a State’s Attorney crashed.

The storyline is well crafted and fast moving. To say it was a page turner is cliché, but somehow very appropriate. Honestly the book was hard to put down and was read in one day which is a testament to the author and her skill at story telling and weaving words together. There is certainly potential for a series!

I was provided with an advance copy of this book and am providing an honest, voluntary review.

Thank you, Gail Ward Olmsted, for providing an ARC of Miranda Writes.

Gail Ward Olmsted’s Miranda Writes urges people to do the right thing by highlighting the domino effect of one person’s selfish actions on the larger community. During her time as an Assistant State Attorney, Miranda Quinn received an opportunity to throw a rapist, Kane, behind bars. This case meant that she would help in delivering justice and receive a massive boost in her career. However, when her key witness, Becky Lewis, disappeared before the day of the trial, Miranda lost the case, her credibility, and her job. After spending a good chunk of time moping around at her dad’s house, she started a legal advice blog, which eventually morphed into a podcast. Things started looking up for her when she received an offer to turn her blog/podcase into a daytime tv show. Nevertheless, destiny had other plans for her. Before moving forward, she had to fight the demons of her past in the most literal sense. She was getting another chance to throw Kane, the sexual predator, behind bars for good. This time, the stakes were higher for Miranda, and failure was just not an option.

Three years ago, I’d had the chance to put him away, and I had blown it. Now he had attacked another woman, and it was all my fault.

Overall Rating = 5

Storyline & Concept = 5
Writing & Delivery = 5
Editorial = 5

Miranda Quinn suffered a major career loss three years earlier, and she’s on the brink of a comeback. When the star witness in the case that signaled the end of her career as an Assistant District Attorney reappears, secrets are revealed, and events happen that turn Miranda’s world upside down again. There are revelations about her past, threats to her present and future, and both losses and successes in her career and her personal life, but it’s impossible to squash her spunky personality.

For readers who love a novel that mixes legal thrills, second chances, humor, and a touch of romance, this is the book to choose. The story is told through the eyes of the protagonist, Miranda Quinn, a quirky but tough woman, and it’s a view everyone should see. All the characters are as well-written and engaging as the main character, while the plot flows smoothly, even amid the twists and turns. There was nothing I didn’t love about this book. It has everything that should exist in a novel and should be on everyone’s must-read list. It would appeal to fans of Lisa Scottoline and Janet Evanovich or anyone looking for an entertaining, well-written book.

Sublime Line: “Miranda Writes is a top-pick for a novel filled with legal thrills, humor, and an engaging protagonist.”

Miranda Writes is a clever, well-plotted, and character-driven book that expertly weaves together the worlds of law, women's fiction, and entertainment (i.e., blogging, podcasting, and TV). There was a good amount of tension, both with the high stakes and the gradual unfolding of what happened. I love the clever title and the cover as well. Overall, I think this is a great book.

In case you can't tell from the description, there are a few tough topics covered in this book, particularly r*pe/sexual assault (off-screen, but recounted at trial) and calorie counting/diet culture.

Why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: the fatphobia and diet culture representation. Part of Randi's characterization is her concern with her weight, calories, and "healthy eating". While this is unfortunately a common mindset for those who identify as female, including these things without addressing it as problematic perpetuates these ideas. I would have loved to see 1. content warnings, since this could be triggering for those recovering from an eating disorder and 2. a character arc where Randi has a more healthy relationship with food at the end (perhaps prompted by her dad's sandwiches?) rather than dichotomizing foods as "bad" or "good".
