Life is good for Dean Blanchett, lead guitarist of the superstar rock band, the Lost Apostles. He's got his music, he's got his dog, he's got his best friend Luka and the girl he's gonna marry. Right up until a few days before the biggest show of the year, when his fiancée literally throws his ring in his face and leaves him for an accountant.
AN ACCOUNTANT.
Dean quickly spirals out of control, knowing Luka will be there to pick up the pieces. Again. It’s a good thing he has a friend like Luka.
Luka
How many more times will Luka have to put Dean together again? Staying with the band, taking care of Dean's dog - who's really Luka's dog - while Dean chases after the next girl who is 'the one' and then crashes and burns. Again. It's all taking its toll.
And why does his stupid heart keep insisting Dean is the only one it wants?
This time is IT. Luka is done with the Dean Drama, the soul-mates-of-the-month, even the band. He loves Dean, he has since they met, but Dean is straight as a ruler. And unless something changes, he’s going to self-destruct something Luka can’t bear to watch.
When Luka throws down an ultimatum, Dean begins to question everything—including his sexuality.
Can he live without his best friend? Does he even want to try?
There's only one way to find out; he has to live with him first.

Elle Keaton is a writer, avid reader, and amateur cat-wrangler. Her love of romance novels has led her to a life of creating her own happy ever afters. She is the author of the best selling series' Shielded Hearts and Veiled Intentions. Keaton hails from the Pacific Northwest, where she lives with her husband and cats.
This was a very sweet and quick read with a very adorable couple. The concept of the best friends to lovers was written really well, and whilst it wasn't the normal style of writing that I enjoy, but it will be for so many other readers. If you enjoy a quick sweet no-angst friends-to-lovers read, this one is for you.
The first half of this was angsty. You could feel Luka's longing and frustration at Dean's cluelessness. This is a good friends to lovers, and it's kind of fast paced. I read it in a day. Once Dean stops for just a second and thinks about what he wants, he's all in. Really, like no problems, no identity crisis with having never been with a man, and Luka's pretty forgiving. So the second half was super easy and kind of hot. I liked it.
I’ve read nearly every book that Elle Keaton has written and I love them. I enjoy how she connects her various series while at the same time writing them in such a way that you don’t have to have read them all.
In Tune is a great best friends-to-lovers story. Dean and Luka have been best friends since Dean first appeared on Piedras Island one summer to stay with relatives. They maintained that friendship after the summers were over and then they remained best friends while Dean toured with Lost Apostles and Luka maintained the guitars and other instruments while they toured.
Dean doesn’t understand why no one wants him. He’s been engaged a few times but they always leave him. Luka has been in love with Dean almost from the day they met; too bad that Dean doesn’t see it. He’s finally had enough and heads back home to Piedras Island. Dean is devastated when Luka leaves him but it’s the wakeup call he needs to finally figure out who he really loves.
I loved the slow-burn build up of this story. It’s a pretty quick read and I think that is partly due to Elle’s wonderfully descriptive writing. Dean’s mother and sister are toxic and I think Dean was too generous with them but I understand why he gave them what he did. Luka’s dad is a wonderfully supportive father and he cares for Dean like he does Luka.
Fans will be happy to visit again with some of their favorite Piedras Island and Home in Hollyridge characters. I love the connected worlds Elle has created and I hope she doesn’t stop any time soon.
A copy of this book was provided to me at my request and my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
The blurb for this book sounded so promising, unfortunately, for me, the story didn’t live up to that promise.
The story is well-written, but the romance is missing. With the exception of a couple of minor scenes, the characters don’t really interact throughout the majority of the story. Like I’m talking the first 70% of the story they aren’t together, and I don’t mean as a couple, I mean they had only a few brief scenes together.
The romance was super slow-burn, then it was incredibly rushed and I missed getting to know Luka and Dean as a couple. I wanted to see them transition more organically from friends to lovers and that didn’t happen.
While I thought Dean and Luka were both likable and their story was sweet, in my opinion, it definitely needed to be fleshed out some. Still, a recommendable read.

Friends to lovers which was super cute but if you are going to be in a rock star anthology about a rock festival, maybe more than 3 to 4 chapters needs to be held there. It was a blip basically. This story could be 2 guys in any profession.
What I Think: We’re doing this movie style because fatigue has us too lazy. Let’s gist! So, I usually avoid tales with stars of any kind. The thought alone has my light agoraphobia morphing into chronic-level! The bravery of performing artists is something that will always have me in awe. To take the stage in front of judgmental people and trust yourself not to mess up if you just give in to the passion in your blood. To trust that these people are here to cheer you on and not tear you apart. Like I said, total awe.
But, this turned out even sweeter than I expected and, oh, it makes me feel all buttery inside. A laid-back tale that is a slice of life and fresh air rolled into one. I simply live for love that’s as fluid as its lovers. It is my dream tale of tight – to – the – end besties becoming lovers. The necessary compromises, and a smooth, peaceful transition. No holds barred and a certainty that my possessiveness craves. Isn’t that supposed to be why you fall in love with your bestie in the first place? A few smacks to wake them up, and the rest is history. Mme. Elle was perfect at capturing this.
This is my idea of torture. Keep such deep feelings for so long and keep taunting myself by having it in my face and space all the time? My all too truthful peepers and hands would betray me. My temper is already betraying me as Dean tasks my patience and makes me wonder why on earth Luca wants him? Why do the stable, sensible ones always fall for the messy ones? Lawdess, can someone please smack okro seeds from Dean’s mouth for me? It would go a long way in resetting his brain. I would do it but I’m already in lazy holiday mode.
Luca is made to bring Dean to his knees in the best of ways. Ooh, this come – to – the – goddess moment is going to be sweet! But Luca insists on showing me just why it has to be Dean and I don’t want to listen because I refuse to adult on this! Only for my anger to switch focus as some parents make us give thanks for found family because there are blood relatives worse than chemical waste. While Neb shows how to do things the right way. I simply refuse to love Dean. No, Luka, I refuse to let you convince me either. Luka is too delicious a package in and out, and I’m giving Dean a side-eye hard enough to stab.
Now, I need to know more about this found family. Who is Sky? And, why do I hear Maria’s soundtrack from The Sound of Music every time I read them? Oy vay! I give up and give in. Dean’s come to the goddess moment couldn’t be better and fine, I already loved him even before this. But,I’m still watching him very closely, eyes narrowed and drilling into his brain. Thank the goddess for good friends. I mean, where would any of us be without them?
Verdict? A sweet and honest comfort keeper of a tale that’s an ode to the saying – home is where the heart is!
Reviewed for Love Bytes – 3.5 hearts Dean flirted with everyone except Luka. Luka knew that the straight Dean would never look at him that way or kiss him the way he kissed Cassidy, the fiancée. For years, Luka tucked away his love and settled for friendship until it all became too much - one day, he was done. The question was – what would Dean do in response? I picked up this story because of its connection to Piedras and a series that I adore. While I greatly enjoyed the overall story, this relatively short novel (151 pages) is stacked to the rafters with information, some of which I’m not sure was necessary. I will explain in a bit. The story is told in the third person from the viewpoints of Dean and Luka. Other than the occasional autonomous body part, I found it technically sound. From the stories I’ve read thus far, Elle Keaton’s world building is extensive – an aspect I’ve loved as it has allowed me to immerse myself into the universes created. In Tune is one of several independent stories developed for the Rocktoberfest series. The blurb says that they can all be read as standalones. However, characters from several other series written by the author have dive-bombed this tale. And seemingly not wanting to leave anyone in the dark, the inter-family/friends’ connections and their other halves, with a smidgeon of backstory are also included. I occasionally found it so confusing only bits registered in my head. I get the incentive to link novels, but the only place the universe created completely comes together is in the author’s head (unless you are a particular reader) because that’s their world, and they know it intimately. The rest of us bookworms read other stories, too, and when there are months between episodes, the memory needs more jogging than a few paragraphs. For the story to work, yes, mention in the acknowledgments who makes an appearance, but the main body of the tale didn’t need the complicated who was cousin to who’s best friend twice removed. For me, these explanations also put some areas out of proportion. There were areas where less would have improved flow and focus, and other areas, where less was too little. I fear a lifetime of friends and family were forced into too small a space. I am, therefore, on the fence about this short novel. I loved the return to Piedras. I loved the band and their dynamic. Dean and Luka are delightful, and Frank (the Husky) is a scene-stealer. But, if there’d been less detail in the peripherals, more time could have been dedicated to Dean and Luka, resulting in more being made of certain situations, intensifying the emotional investment. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
With this book I went against my romance rule of no guitars on the cover. A rock romance is often filled with a lot of angst from dramatic musicians and their lifestyles. The cover of this book drew me in because cover guy looks real. I don’t agree with the muscles, though. Rock musicians can definitely be toned, but I haven’t seen any who are bulked up. Maybe I’ve been staring at my Led Zeppelin poster too much. I found myself enjoying the music parts of the book and the group interactions. I think it’s because there was no destructive behavior or OTT theatrics within the band. The heavy drinking scenes were written honestly and all members seemed to care and watch out for each other. I liked how they knew that unaware Dean loved Luka and pointed it out to him. I liked Luka and I liked Dean. The drama leading up to their friendship breakup was germane to the plot and well written. Dean’s all in and no games attitude towards Luka was refreshing and the heat between them was superbly written when they got together for good. I will be honest and say that I skimmed the childhood flashbacks. That is a trope I dislike. I had already gotten the gist of Dean’s crummy upbringing and horrible parents and sib. They were freaking annoying characters and I enjoyed the book much more when they exited the scene. I didn’t like doormat Dean. I thought Luka’s interior monologues were really well done and Dean’s too. The multiple scenes with the friends were okay. I prefer MCs to not have a lot of scenes with friends/relatives/coworkers who can be intrusive. The dad and friends were low key and I might read another book about them.
This is a rock star romance novella featuring my favorite place – Piedras Island. If you are a fan of the West Coast Forensic books, you’ll recognize the location. This book is part of the new rocker collaboration but can be read as a standalone.
In Tune is about best friends, with one of the MCs completely clueless about what is right in front of him. Dean is the lead of a very successful band and is living the lifestyle. He owns a lovely house, has money, and even a beautiful fiance. Well, she might be his third fiance, but who’s counting? Dean is unaware of his character flaw of falling in love at the drop of a hat. All of Dean’s friends are beyond exasperated. No surprises here when the latest relationship tanks.
Luka is his best friend and travels with the band to do setup and give support to Dean. Luka has always been in love with the performer, but Dean is totally unaware. Time apart and the slow dawning of what really matters reunite the men.
While I liked both guys, I just couldn’t feel they were an authentic couple. After so many years, Dean finally opens his eyes. This happened very fast. Luka is naturally wary, but frankly, his communication skills really weren’t any better than Dean’s.
What I loved was the supportive cast of friends and an incorrigible husky who really stole the show. While I may not revisit this book, it was well-written and recommendable. Happy Reading.

This is a sweet friends to lovers, bi awakening story set in the Piedras Island universe. We get some appearances from characters we know from previous books and get to enjoy seeing another happy couple settled on Piedras.
Luka has been in love with his straight friend Dean since they were teenagers. Now Dean is a rock star and Luka is his guitar tech and best friend, following him on tour, taking care of his guitars and his dog, and watching his engagements to women who are wrong for him crash and burn. Dean longs for a family that loves and wants him since he’s never had that. What will it take for him to realize what he’s already got?
This is a quick, sweet read and it is lovely the way everyone around Dean points out to him what he’s never realized. Though it is heartbreaking seeing what Luka goes through before Dean gets his act together. I wanted to throat punch Dean’s mother and sister and was infuriated at the scenes with them at the end. Like seriously yelling at the book angry! I wanted to make a phone call to stop the actions he put in place! Guess it’s a sign of a good book when you are so invested you think you can make a phone call to a fictional world to right a wrong!
I loved the ending of the book and I am looking forward to the next book in this universe.
**I voluntarily read an arc and this is my unbiased opinion.**
I’m already a huge fan of this author and the Road to Rocktoberfest series. I love how Dean and Luca’s story also has links to Piedras and to Hollyridge. This is very much a story about friendship and family against a backdrop of music.
Dean is so oblivious about so many things. I loved when he finally figures it out – with some help – about why he’s bouncing from fiancée to fiancée and bad relationships. His family are horrible and the expectations they’ve saddled him are not only unrealistic but forcing him to be someone he’s not. I felt for Luca loving Dean for years, without Dean realising he feels the same way.
I loved seeing Ben again, and his friendship with Luca. And of course, Skye in Hollyridge who always totally rocks and steals every scene they’re in. Intervention cocktail hour for the win. The relationships that link Piedras and Hollyridge characters are nicely done, and it was great catching up with them again, although I think this story could be enjoyed without knowing their stories. I loved the character bomb intro at the beginning explaining who everyone is.
Luca’s dad is great and has Dean sussed. I loved his encouragement of both Luca and Dean, not only as adults, but children too. The name of his music shop is perfect.
The HEA is a satisfying sweet epilogue for Dean and Luca, and I love that it included Frank too.
I enjoyed Elle’s addition to the Road to Rocktoberfest 2022 which is based within her own universes, which makes it a pleasant read if you know her work. It’s always lovely seeing characters from other books and series.
This was a really sweet best friends-to-lovers story with a bi-awakening. Two of my favourite tropes.
With Luka pinning for Dean since they were teens. When they first met they just clicked, and never looked back. Now Luka is the guitar tech for Dean’s band the Lost Apostles. He tours with his best friend, taking care of his dog and picking up the pieces of Dean’s heart when woman after woman drops him. All while Dean is completely oblivious. Dean just wants a family, so desperately, he’ll fall in love with women at the drop of a hat. It’ll take Luka being honest about his feelings to change the course of both their lives.
They’re both really good guys, just a bit misguided and lost. In the end, these two get all the hearts and flowers they deserve.
I love best friends-to-lovers stories. Here with In Tune, there is that plus the bi-awakening of a truly oblivious and clueless main character which was a good combination and made for an entertaining read.
I really liked Luka, so it was a bit heartbreaking that his best friend Dean really had no idea about Luka’s feelings for him, and that Luka had to endure Dean continually going through women. And not even ones that made for good matches. Meanwhile, Dean has his own issues on top of his disaster of a love life, mostly in the form of his truly annoying mother and sister. Thank goodness Frank, Dean’s husky dog, was around to help make us all smile.
Up to the point when Luka breaks away from Dean’s crazy life, the story has a bit of angst (expected with this kind of situation). After that, when Dean finally embarks on his relatively short journey of self-discovery, things quickly smooth out.
Overall, In Tune was a pretty quick 4-star read for me. It is a great addition to the Road to Rocktoberfest 2022 series, and if you’re a fan of friends-to-more this will also be a great addition to your library. This book is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.
Luka is a sweet, shy, and talented gay man who is secretly in love with his straight best friend, who just happens to be the lead guitarist and singer in a rock band. Luka is confused by how touchy feely Dean is and Dean is oblivious to Luka's feelings and skates through life and relationships, but the one thing that is constant is how Luka is always there for Dean. Until he isn't. And when faced with the loss of his beloved best friend, Dean must do some soul searching and evaluate his own thoughts and feelings. Freed from his encumbrances, namely an ex-fiance who does note love him and a mom and sisters who only want him around for the things ad money he provides, Dean heads home towards the actual love of his life.
This book was really good and well-written. I loved getting to know the MC's better and to revisit some of the other characters from other books from this author. Once the MC's got together, I enjoyed seeing the awesome chemistry between them, but felt sad for Luka when he was just waiting around for the other shoe to drop. Fortunately, ,the shoe never drops; Dean really is all in,; and they live happily ever after. Loved that!
I received a ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love any opportunity to read Elle Keaton's work and this was no exception. It was a well-written, sweet romance. Although quite short, I really enjoyed learning about the characters. Dean was completely clueless about Luka's feelings towards him... and even his own feelings towards Luka. It was good to see how strong their friendship was and how this translated into such a wonderful relationship too. Also, I was SO happy to get to revisit Piedras Island again and have a quick catch up with some of my favourite characters!
I'd definitely recommend this book to those who like MM romance and it is fine to read as a stand alone. If I could wish for one thing, it would be that it was slightly longer just to further develop some of the secondary characters in the band and explore that world building a little bit more. But really this is me just being greedy because I liked the idea behind it so much. Overall, a great addition to the series and I'll definitely be reading some more of the stories in the Road to Rocktoberfest.
Some fun tropes here: friends-to-lovers, one of those friends is a rockstar (who is also super oblivious), some pining, a bi-awakening, and a narrative that’s a blend of a bit angsty in the beginning (will the clueless one ever realize?) and a kind of relief once things come together and they can both see and appreciate how well they fit together. Fans of the author’s other books will see a familiar world, and both main characters were, at least for me, really likable– I wanted them to figure things out, to communicate with each other, and to get the happily-ever-after they deserved. I can’t claim to have liked all the supporting characters, but I’m pretty sure that’s the point– all in all, this is the story of two protagonists who deserve to be together, and to have all the good things, and if that’s your jam, definitely give this one a try.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Luka and Dean have been friends since they were kids and Dean’s parents neglected him. He became a fixture when he visited his grandparents in the summers and spent time with Luka.
Now they travel together with Luka’s rock band, and he keeps looking to find someone to marry and have a family, finally. But he chooses women too fast or all wrong, not seeing who’s right there all the time, Luka.
Luka finally gets fed up and leaves, causing Dean to really look at what he already has and realize he’s in love with Luka too. He makes some big decisions and takes a risk to show Luka how he feels.
I like Luka, but Dean comes across as not just clueless, but destructive and self centred. His change is significant, but seems too fast and disingenuous.
Not a bad book, but not one of Keaton’s best. I received this ARC for free, and am glad to provide my honest review as a thank you for this book.
This is a sweet friends to lovers story. This story is set in the authors traditional place of Piedras Island but it is not a continuation of her other stories. This is a stand alone rock romance which ends up in Piedras Island. This is the story of Luka and Dean. Luka and Dean have been best friends since the age of twelve. When Dean becomes a famous singer he brings his best friend along with him. For Luka, working with Dean is a dream job. But after picking up the pieces from Deans three failed engagements, Luka has had enough. He is tired of hoping his straight best friend would one day wake up and see what treasure Luka is. After the tour is over, Luka snaps and leaves taking Dean's dad with him back home to Piedras Island. This is Dean's wake up call to find out what and who he really wants in his life. This is their story. The book is well written and easy to read. I enjoyed it.
I received an ARC and am leaving my honest opinion.
Normally friends-to-lovers and bi-awakening are books I go to immediately. But this one is a bit of a let-down.
The story is not badly written but it's not keeping up with the promises in the burlb.
Luka is fed up with supporting Dean's love life disasters while secretely in love since being a teenager. So he heads off, with the dog in tow and trying to live his life without Dean.
I couldn't see the chemistry between Luka and Dean, they hardly interact until the last quarter of the book and the flash backs. Luka is far too forgiving, Dean basically man-handled Luka into a physical relationship and it's a HEA without even talking properly about what happened. I like Luka but could have killed Dean several times over. I got that he tried to find love in a twisted way based on what he knew but it felt he was just entitled to carry on just with a man instead of a woman.
Dean and Luka were adorable in this friends to lovers romance. I loved their relationship, even when Dean was clueless about Luka's more than friendly feelings toward him. Dean finally had to recognize, after it was pointed out to him over and over, that he cared more about Luka as well. I was frustrated with Dean a few times, but I did appreciate his easy acceptance of the feelings he finally figured out he had for his best friend. For his part, Luka had been patient for so many years, he totally deserved the HEA Dean decided to give them both. I loved the flashbacks to the early years of Dean and Luka's friendship, and I adored Luka's dad. We also got an awesome attitude-filled dog and some fabulous and supportive friends here. All of this added up to a terrific story and a satisfying romance.
First of all, I have to say that I love how Elle Keaton manages to tie all of these books together. Her characters have all wormed their way into my heart and I have yet to meet one that I don’t like. Cameos are awesome and I love seeing some of my favorite guys all over again. Secondly…Dean you really are an idiot! It takes nearly losing the best person in your life to realize how you were actually living for everyone else instead of yourself. Good on you Luka for standing up for yourself! It was what Dean needed to shake things up. I also love Frank, but who could ignore those puppy eyes anyway?
In Tune is Elle Keaton's entry in the Road to Rocktoberfest series. It's not necessary to read the other books to enoy this mostly low angst best friends to lovers quick read. Luka and Dean bonded over music and guitars when they were young and continued as best friends when Dean's band hit it big with Luka as Dean's guitar tech. Oblivious Dean finally gets a wake up call when Luka crushes his phone, takes the dog and retreats to Piedras Island. Yes, we get a needed fix of Piedras while we wait for Cody's story. We get some Ben, some Harry, some Marigold. We find out Dean's mother is as bad as Ben's father (sister and brother, crummy gene pool!). Wonderful sexy times when Dean finally comes to Luka. Such a good read!
In Tune is part of the multi author series Road to Rocktoberfest 2022. I seriously adore this book, with it’s captivating characters, the love that Luka and Dean shared, and the crossovers from her other series. The flashbacks were sweet to read, learning how these two came to be best friends. I wanted to smack Dean and yell at him to wake up or you’ll lose the best thing that ever happened to him. I loved how Dean just accepted his sexuality and didn’t question it; he knew deep in his heart he loved Luka! But my favorite characters were Frank and Nancy!!! Overall, a fantastic addition to the series. Well written with pacing that kept me engaged and flipping the pages!
This was an okay book overall for me, landing somewhere in the 2.5-3 star range. I think my biggest issue was that it was so short and so fast. I never really got to see Luka or Dean fall in love. I guess the flashbacks were supposed to facilitate that, but they didn't really help me understand Luka and Dean's relationship beyond the superficial. At the end, I was left feeling a little bit flat because there wasn't really that much growth or discovery along the way, and the relationship just didn't feel believable to me. Also, I wish the epilogue had been longer/left me feeling more happy about their relationship, but this book just didn't really touch me in any meaningful way.
Sweet best friends to lovers story, it’s a fast read and pretty low angst. The parts that I enjoyed the most were the flashbacks to various moments of Dean and Luka’s friendship, it really showed how integral they are to each other. Dean is quite dense when it comes to his feelings for Luka for about the first half of the book, you really just want to shake some sense into him! I enjoyed the book overall and especially all the cameos (Ben ❤️Henry). I would have liked a little less time spent on Dean pining over Cassidy and more time developing Luka and Dean’s relationship in the present timeline.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Dean and Luka have been best friends since middle school. Luka’s dad Neb owns a music store on Piedras Island. Dean’s family ships him off to his aunts house during summer. Now as adults Dean is the guitarist for Lost Apostals and Luka is the instrument tech. Dean’s life is a mess, always getting engaged and then his fiancée breaks up with him. Luka is always there along with other members of the bank picking up the pieces. Dean’s mother and sister are constantly asking for money like he is a bank. Luka has had enough and quits his job and goes back home. This is a story about Dean setting his priorities and getting his life together.
Frank stole the show! Any story with an adorable Husky with personality is worth the read, but does the love story between Dean and Luka compete? Yes!
One of my friends asked for recs with a clueless/oblivious character and I've texted her to add In Tune to her TBR, because one of the most clueless characters I've read in a long time is Dean... Luka is so sweet, genuine and just a little spineless... but it works and the story is well paced, thoughtful and a great read! While there are Roctoberfest elements, this story goes beyond the rock lifestyle and it works...
This is a good friends to lovers, and it is fast paced read. It is a very sweet and quick read with a very adorable couple. This is a friends to lovers story. Luka has had feelings for Dean since they were teens, but Dean is straight. Luka realizes he needs to move on because his feelings will never be returned the way he needs them to be. When Dean sees Luka pulling away it is a wake up call for him. I loved seeing their relationship grown and change. The history between them is so important. Loved seeing them get their HEA.
I loved this slow burn romance between life long friends Dean and Luka. Though it is a rough start for these two, I loved how they were able to find their way to a different side of their relationship. While Dean and Luka are so very different, they bring out the best of each other and it is easy to see why they along so well. I loved the epilogue and getting to see Dean and Luka come full circle in their friendship! I loved getting to see our favorite MC's from other books set on Piedras Island! I can't wait until Cody finally gets his HEA!
