If you’re a woman reading this review, chances are you’ve measured your self worth against others at some point in your life. Perhaps it was against your more affluent peers. Maybe it was a not so subtle sibling rivalry. Or it could have been how you measure up in relation to a man with the same or lesser skill set. If any of theses scenarios seem relatable to you, especially if you’re still struggling to break the cycle, you should consider reading The Science of Getting Rich for Women by @saraconnell!
This book kicks off by asking the reader to recall their earliest memories of their relationships with money. Personally, nothing earth shattering came to mind. I was an only child who had a comfortable middle class upbringing. My parents are still together. Neither one of them had issues with saving, so I inherited good spending habits. I remember being away at college and my grandmother mailing me envelopes of tin-foiled wrap cash so no one know what it was. My friends and I always got a big kick out of this. Bigger picture, money was appreciated, yet I was taught you could still have nice things and not break the bank.
Career wise was a different story. From a very early age I knew I was good at writing. My father, however, never saw this as a viable profession. Sure, there were people who made a living as writers, but those individuals were few and far between. My father is a play it safe kinda guy. Ultimately, I inherited that quality, too. So the practical part of me moved on, yet the other part of me, the part that still believes you can have it all if you have the desire things make it happen, lives on, too.
The first half of this book is devoted to strategies to do just that. Outlining the pathway to success, emphasis is put on such concepts as manifestation, hypnosis, mindset, mentors, and goal-oriented prompts. The second half is what I like to think of as the proof in the pudding portion-highlighting various women from all walks of life and their unique stories. While their individual paths may differ, they all shared the qualities of passion and persistence.
An inspiring blend of systematic approach and stories of success is what sets this book apart from others that may have come before it. I only would have added one last concluding chapter as a final reminder of how powerful women can be when they put their mind to something.
