Isabella Thornton is a young woman with a mysterious past who works as the department head of the ISA (Institute of Scientific Anomalies). She is currently on a much needed leave to begin writing a book about many of her unusual encounters concerning the unexplained phenomena. Isabella has chosen to to reside in a quiet small town in Michigan, a few hours from the Institute where she is hoping to enjoy a quiet and well deserved time off to recover from her last case where she almost died and she is still emotionally fragile from that encounter. The sheriff and the mayor show up unexpectedly at her door one morning seeking her advice on several reoccurring attacks on farm animals that are starting to shake up the community since the killings have left the sheriff and the farmers stumped because the animals had large fang marks on their bodies and had been completely drained of blood. Isabella feels it's not a case of the supernatural but more likely a large wolf, cougar or many of the possible large.wildlife in the area but she agrees to help them investigate the matter to put the town at ease.

Soon after, Isabella becomes involved with a murder of a colleague (not paranormal) while researching the animal attacks and finds they're somehow connected. So now there are two killers on the loose and she is in right in the middle and will find that she is possibly a target of one of the killers but doesn't know why and in the.meantime she is being stalked by the other killer. Why, oh why did she ever believe that she could find peace and quiet for herself since she understands that her entire life has never been normal and unfortunately it never will be.

This was a very enjoyable and entertaining book for me. Initially, I thought it was going to be a very dark and sinister story but I found it to be lighter yet still having a good grip on the paranormal as well as the supernatural. The main character Isabella is wonderful. She is lovely, feisty and a believable solid character to have built the book around. This novella was quite a pleasant surprise and had a lot going on yet the author "Debi Chestnut" used her talent to write a story that was easy to understand and the action packed pages were fun, creepy, and scary at times. There was some romance especially in the second half of the story where it was fine to a point but sometimes I just wanted more scare and strange happenings instead of hugs and kisses. I feel that the romance will appeal to many readers who enjoy romantic/suspense books. So in all-in-all it was an entertaining and solid story with great characters and the book seemed to end with the possibility of a stand-alone series (hopefully) in the near future!

Trigger Warnings: Some graphic descriptions of animal killings. This book does deal with supernatural events as in evil, spirits, demons, entities etc.

I want to thank the publisher "BooksGoSocial" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this novella and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!

I highly recommend this well-written book and have.given a rating of 4 SPOOKY, SUPERNATURAL🌟🌟🌟🌟 STARS!! .

Erebus by Debi Chestnut is a fast-paced, punchy and fun paranormal novel with a sprinkling of romance along the way. I am normally a person who has a couple of books on the go increase a dreaded reading slump arises or to keep mixing genres but once I started Erebus I had to finish it. I managed this in two sittings simply because I could not put it down.

I will be honest, I was worried our protagonist, Izabela Thornton, would fall into the ‘special overpowered main character who single-handedly can save the town with no help’ trope. She did not, actually she is probably one of my favourite heroines! Yes she has many psychic and paranormal gifts but it doesn’t make her untouchable and that is something I really enjoyed. It made me bond with Izabela, she makes tough choices, she gets in situations where she might need a hand, but she is still badass and powerful. Frankly, despite her powers, Debi Chestnut makes Izabela human and I love it.

The plot itself is tightly woven and keeps you guessing with a few red herrings along the way. The setting and characters all aid the plot in one way or another and make for an enjoyable read. I also really enjoyed the urban paranormal fantasy elements. The world is clearly ours but includes things that go bump in the night. The reactions of people from outside of this world are, refreshingly, realistic. Everyone doesn’t just suddenly accept it but rather have to come to terms with the situations they find themselves in. I also adored the little nod to Devon, England, my home county! And tying archaeology to the paranormal. Yes this has been done before but honestly Chestnut manages to create a believable and well fleshed out storyline.

Another thing I loved was the inclusion of Paranormal Department for the Institute of Scientific Anomalies (ISA). It gave me a slight Hellboy and B.P.R.D. vibes (one of my favourite comics/novel series) but yet it was completely its own. It actually made me want to know more about Izabela’s work with ISA and the other characters as well (I am hopeful that maybe we will have more in the future!)
I am not someone who usually looks for romance in my books and again was a bit worried that the subplot might take over. I can actually say Erebus has made me rethink my stance. While it remained secondary to the main plot, the romance that blossoms between Izabela and Sheriff Matthew Faraday was one I actually enjoyed.

All in all Erebus was a brilliant read and I will definitely be getting into Debi Chestnut’s other works. The plot and narrative were fast paced but fleshed out and kept you hooked throughout. The Characters were all enjoyable and memorable and extra points for a rather scary but cute (it is a dog after all) hellhound!

Today is my spot on the book tour for Erebus, a supernatural mystery centring around a possible hellhound on the loose.

This was quite a short story, so it moved along at a quick pace. It felt a little young adult-y in terms of writing style; the dialogue between characters in particular felt very basic and quite emotionless.

There were a LOT of typos and grammatical errors, passages where it was suddenly written in the first person instead of third…but I’m hoping all of those will be ironed out before goes to print! There also wasn’t much depth to any of the characters, even the central ones, I never felt like I got to know Izabela or the sheriff. A dark past was alluded to but never explored with Izabela, and I think having that backstory may have allowed for more connection with the characters.

With all that being said, I did still enjoy this, I love a good supernatural story and this one has hellhounds, psychic powers, a paranormal institute, magic rings and legends, the full shebang.

All in all, it was an enjoyable - albeit short - read. I think it would be good as one of a series based around Izabela and her gifts, maybe with one instalment focussed on her childhood in Romania, another on how she came to work for the institute, etc. I’d definitely be inclined to read it as part of a series 😊

I really enjoyed the storyline of this book, combining fantasy with mystery in a modern setting. I particularly enjoyed that any of the fantasy aspects are different that the common types we're seeing a lot of lately, making it unique in that aspect.

It kept me interested throughout the whole book, never lagging or feeling like it was moving too slowly. I enjoyed the characters and learning glimpses of their pasts while watching the relationships develop.

Admittedly the writing style was not exactly to my tastes but I can also see how the author may have been channeling the protagonist's own way of speaking.

Thanks to Cayelle Publishing and Net Galley for this ARC. This is my honest, unbiased review.
