Insanity is falling for your best friend, especially when you’re straight.

Igor is ready to retire his goalie pads and move on to coaching, but first he needs to get through hip surgery. Waking up, he's shocked to find his best friend sitting in the room. Yuri should be in Russia visiting family, not insisting on helping Igor with his recovery.

Yuri is known for his patience in net. Calculated and calm, he’s everything Igor is not, and exactly what Igor needs after surgery. Leaving Igor to recover alone was never an option, and his insistence on pushing limits only proves Yuri was right.

The more time they spend together, the more the lines of friendship get blurred. Igor might not be as straight as he’s always thought. Except Yuri doesn’t need a boyfriend, he’s looking for a submissive. Not just any will do. He wants one who pushes boundaries and Yuri's patience. Just because Igor can drive him insane doesn’t mean he’s the brat Yuri’s been looking for… or maybe it does.

Cute and sweet, but a little boring.

The first 40% is them before they get together, Igor figuring out his sexuality and discovering kinks.
Fun, I love a kink awakening trope, but here it was way too drawn out.
Once they figure shit out, they spend most of the time talking. Like okay, it’s nice to have rules and a clear definition of limits and expectations in a relationship involving BDSM, but did they have to talk the whole time?

There wasn’t enough smut to compensate and balance out all the talking. There were only two sex scenes, and two impact play scenes. I was expecting more.

Tropes and NSFW info (spoilers):
- Hockey players
- Friends to lovers
- Bi-awakening and kink awakening
- Russian MC
- D/s relationship
- Dom with service kink (likes to please partner)
- Bratty sub
- Impact play
- Strict top/bottom

More 3.5 than 4

I felt that the first half of the book really dragged and not much happened, but then all the bits I would have liked to read were skipped over with time jumps. Very frustrating!

I did like the relationship though and the characters were interesting, it just took too long to get going so my attention kept wandering.

Well this was something....

Ok, I am not gonna lie, I loved this story but dang it was so freaking slow going.

Spoilers ahead, be forewarned

When I read a Carly Marie book, I am usually done in one day. This one took me 11 days to finish. And I was so excited for this one, after seeing these two in the previous books.

So in here we have Yuri, who is a goalie for the Nashville Grizzlies hockey team. He is someone who knows he is a Daddy Dom/Caretaker Dom and his best friend Igor, who is older than he is and also is a goalie who is transitioning to being a goalie coach (I think that is what he is, I am not hip on sports stuff) and also has hip surgery while its the off season.

So anyways, Yuri stays home over the summer to take care of his bestie and for some reason out of the blue, starts getting turned on by taking care of him. But in a twist, Igor is straight.

And poor Igor also is struck by the lust bug and starts getting turned on by a man, who is also his best friend.

These two dingdongs spend the first 70% doing nothing at all. I am not exaggerating. It was just about Igor healing and Yuri being frustrated at Igor not doing as he was told. Eventually Igor starts figuring out that not only is he not straight, but he also is apparently a bratty submissive. So from 70%-85% is learning how to sub and convincing Yuri that he is not straight. Then we around 85% we finally get some emotionally satisfying scenes.

I am not sure why, but I did not feel the emotional connection between these two. I really did enjoy seeing Seth and all the others from the previous books, but I did not like how much I know about the former nervous guy who will be the mc in the next book. He went from a nervous wreck to being cool and collected and I was like huh? I know that it will be due to his being with the other mc from the next book but I felt it was almost spoiling the next story.

I can’t say I was surprised by this book. Friends to lovers at the most basic level ever but that didn’t bother me too much.

It was still a bit boring though, because the only really interesting thing about this story was Igor’s bi-awakening—but then it was a very easygoing version of it, so that doesn’t really mean much.

When the name Yuri came to mind, it reminded me of the manga Yuri on Ice. And this Yuri may not have been a figure skater nor a uke but he did work on the ice. Even so, the name tugged at my curiosity, and I had to read this novel. This Yuri wasn't Korean but Russian and had much more masculinity to him to be interested in BDSM. That sent my brain into overdrive and here we are a day later.

Igor, a retired goalie, and a soon-to-be hockey goalie coach, underwent surgery during the off-season after his retirement. Yuri, his best friend of five years, decided to stay in Nashville to take care of him instead of going back to Russia to spend the off-season with his family. For the first time, the two men were stuck together for more than a few hours. With Yuri's perfectionist side and Igor's stubbornness, the two best friends had to navigate how to tolerate each other and their growing attraction for one another.

Scored was a cute little story. Even with words such as BDSM thrown into the mix, it wasn't anything dark. Yuri was a wonderful dom, who loved taking care of his best friend, even if he never thought of him as a sub. The two were perfectly matched. I adored how Carrly took the time out to show her readers the struggle friends could go through with the shift from friend-zoned to growing sexual attraction. I enjoyed every bit of it.

The fact, Igor was confused about the new world his sexuality scuba-dived into was even better to read about. He gave the most realistic reaction any character could ever have in such a situation. Carly brought out a huge gem in every great relationship. Communication. No matter who we are or who we love, a relationship can never work without proper communication. Bravo to Carly for pointing this out.

All in all, a good read. A cute friends-to-lovers romance. Couldn't have asked for anything else. Though the transition into the attraction from chapter two to chapter three seemed a little forced. However, Carly slowed it down and helped me to witness the growth in the romance between the two characters as the story progressed. That was good enough for me to enjoy the book. So, go ahead. Get your copy and read it.

Pd: MUERO POR LEER LA HISTORIA DE BLAISEEEEE!!! Quiero conocer ya quién será su pareja y cuál es su kink😏.

Good start, but then slowly started to fizzle out.

I think it was the BDSM that killed it for me. I'm more of a daddy kink kind of girl.

***Spoilers here and there***

This book wasn’t like the first book I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did with Trevor & Brax and Seth and Maz…

I skipped most of the ending and read a few pages. Only good from it I liked was both Igor and Yuri finding out that they both liked each other and wanted to be with each other.

Not only that Igor bringing Yuri family to his house during a game and surprising him.

I enjoyed Igor and Yuri. I had hoped they would get their own story after their appearance in the previous book. Not gonna lie though. I think I’d have like this WAY better without the D/s bits. It didn’t take over the story, but I could have done without it. YMMV

This is mostly my fault for forgetting that this author may write kink, but it doesn’t mean there is a high steam factor. She concentrates on the emotional and mental piece and the steam comes much later. Which is good. It allows the characters to get to know each other and the build up is slow which I do like a lot of the time but I think kink and then it makes me think lots of sexy times. So that’s on me.

If I focus on just the story as a whole I enjoyed it. I have loved Yuri and he didn’t disappoint. Igor I knew less of, but we got to be a part of his journey of not only discovering he was bi-sexual but also submissive. Yuri as a Dom was amazing. He’s still a fave of mine. I loved watching their relationship shift from best friends to boyfriends and it got me in the feels at the end.

There are so many characters that I am invested in and will probably continue on with this series. I just need to remind myself this is more a kink-journey than about the sexy times.

YES YES YES CARLY! You are royalty my dear! Ahhh both of these have been great and I’m going to read more from this author after two amazing spicy and kinky and fluffy books! Everything I’m looking for and more.

Somehow these books manage to be suspenseful, kinky, and also give a slow burn feel with how long it feels like we are on the edge of our seat as they dance around each other!

I loved the self discovery for Igor and let’s be honest… Yuri is hot af! A fluffy dom with a taste for impact play was amazing and his little goalie brat sub was adorable!!! Couldn’t get enough and looking for more!

3/5 on spice. 2/5 on kink. 1/5 on tears. Can’t wait for more from this author!

BFF and now forever

I do enjoy when friends pull their heads out of the sand and see what's been waiting for them all along. Igor and Yuri were perfect for each other.

KU, contemporary, book in a series, friends to lovers, hockey goalies, non American MCs (Russia Lithuania), Dom/sub, brat, spanking

DNF. It started of ok, but it felt like a lot of words with no real story behind and it just didn’t go into a direction I’d find interesting.

Scored by Carly Marie is Book 2 in her Nashville Grizzlies series. If you would like further information about some of the side characters in this book you may want to read her other sports stories, especially the Book 1 in this one, first. This is the story of Igor and Yuri who are best friends who become more than that to each other. At the beginning Igor, who came from Latvia, has just had hip surgery after a dirty hit on the ice during a game that sent him into retirement. He was, however, going to become the goalie coach for the Nashville Grizzlies next season. Yuri, a Russian by birth, is a goalie for the team and lives next door to Igor. Because of their strong friendship he insists that Igor start his recuperation at his house so he can watch over him. Igor agrees because he is on crutches and cannot put any weight on his leg and is quite weak to begin with. As the story goes on Yuri’s friendship changes to a deep longing for Igor because he’s a brat and pushes his buttons which is just the kind of submissive that he likes. However, Igor is straight and doesn’t realize he is submissive until he finds himself wanting Yuri and not understanding why. At a Pride Parade he starts talking to Ryder (from a previous story) who helps him understand what is happening and that he is not as straight as he thought he was and that he might be submissive so he starts doing research to figure it out. Finally the two of them start talking and realize they want each other for more than friends and discuss what they want from their relationship and how they can make it work. I really enjoy Ms. Marie’s writing and the stories she tells. This one is no exception. There is a lot of humor, especially when Yuri makes mistakes in his English translations and also when Igor is being a brat. The side characters and their comments also add to the fun. There is some angst as they both try to decide if they can like each other more than just being best friends and how to go about turning their relationship into love. And, as always, the love scenes are quite hot. While this is about two professional hockey players, there are no actual games depicted in the writing but you still get the feel of its importance to the story. And it has a wonderful, feel-good ending. If you like slow burn love stories about characters involved in sports with some humor added in for good measure, then this book is for you. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Yuri and Igor are a mature couple. I don’t mean old, I mean that they are careful, take their time, and communicate openly. It is refreshing to see characters who are reasonable and take the time to really understand their feelings and understand each other, but it also makes for a less spicy story. This is definitely a slow burn. Igor and Yuri spend a lot of time talking about their feelings and about kink, but it is a while before anything physical happens, which is unusual for this author (in my opinion).

There isn’t really a lot of drama or conflict in this book, which can be nice, especially this time of year (the holidays) when things can be stressful. There are also a lot of appearances from characters from other books

The kink is pretty mild in this book. It’s discussed a lot but there are not a lot of scenes of it actually happening. I am only mentioning that because some people who aren’t fans of kink have no reason to sit this one out.

The only thing I found distracting was that Yuri’s family was in Russia and he spoke with them often and visited regularly. I know that books are a form of escapism, but when Yuri called home or talked about visiting Russia or seemed nostalgic for home, I couldn’t help thinking about current events and wonder why the war wasn’t mentioned or why Yuri’s brother wasn’t being drafted. There was mention of Russia’s unfortunate stance on homosexuality so everything wasn’t totally glossed over. I understand not wanting to make things political, it’s just that I personally was distracted by it because whenever Russia was mentioned I found my attention being pulled from the story. One conversation involved someone saying that their (Russian) company opened a new HQ in New York and instead of focusing on the plot it just made me think it was pretty unrealistic for Russian companies to expand in the US right now

Am going to rate this book a 3.75 and round it up. It was very cute, the relationship between two best friends developing into something more was well nice. I also liked how they were patent with each other while they worked through their feelings and understood what a Dom/Sub relationship meant.

I loved the side characters, Ryder and Malcolm from Surprise Play, and the friendship they developed with Igor. Something I enjoy about her books is that the MC always have someone in their corner who can understand what they are going through, and I loved that Ryder could be that for Igor. I will say something I notice about her books is that many of the MCs from the previous books do not show up as often per se. So the first book was Trevor and Brax, but they were barely in this book which I thought was interesting, and then Seth and Maz just kind of showed up randomly.

While I enjoyed this book, I felt something was missing from their story. It had good aspects, but something was just not giving me what I needed from the story. It could be that they did a lot more talking than actions, or the plot was lacking and confusing. Also, the smut was lacking in this book, in my opinion, versus her other ones, or it could just be the feel of the slow burn.

Overall, it was a good book, and I cannot wait for the next one because it is Blaise's story which is such a fascinating character.

I loved Yuri and Igor's journey to their HEA. Theyve been best friends for years and thought they knew each other pretty well. But then life throws in a wrench, shaking their once comfy life. Igor began to feel all kinds of new feelings for his best friend Yuri. And I love that even though he felt awkward and insecure, had self doubts, it didn't stop Igor from exploring those feelings and accepting them. There was no frustrating back and forth. Also, there was no unnecessary drama to make the story feel dragged out. It had the perfect balance of drama and suspense to keep the reader hooked and anxiously waiting for when the MC's secrets would be revealed. Cause they were so clueless about each other's struggle to keep their feelings friendly; giving us many hilarious moments. Yuri trying to hold in his Dom but Igor pushing all his buttons, such a brat 😂. And of course once they got together, they were sooo hot 🔥🥵.
I am addicted to the Nashville Grizzlies. I need more of this world ❤️❤️

I finished book one in this series and I thought "What the heck, I'll try book two with the teammates who are best friends, one Russian, one Latvian." And even though I didn't think I was going to like it, of course, I did. And it's full of my favorite tropes: older MCs, sexual discovery, two best friends, pro hockey, D/s and D/brat. Bonus: the author made it work.

I really didn't see how it would because I've read so many that fell short, but the whole package worked. And it was really very good. In fact, I might even have given it 5 stars but i totally and completely abhor use of the word "idiot" and, IMO, it was overused in this story. It's an ableist term, very demeaning, especially to those in the mental health community. Definitely used interchangeably with retard and goon squad, etc. when I was a kid and used against my family members that way.

Fool is okay. Jerk is okay. Idiot is not. It speaks to a condition, not a feeling, and I will not give 5 stars to any book in which the term is overused. Aside from that, this was most definitely enjoyable.

This story picks up where Traded left off.

The book is very light on the actual hockey. The majority of this book was set in the off season/pre season. If you've kept up with the series, and aren't the biggest sports fan, this one should be right up your alley.

This book is also very light on kink. So much so, that I feel like it would have worked much better as just a bi-awakening, without the kink. There isn't a lot of opportunity for them to explore the dynamics and once their relationship begins, it feels mostly out of place. I do love that the Dom was the character with the service kink. That's not something I've ever read.

I love that Ryder and his Daddy from Surprise Play are in this book. It's nice to see the two sports from Carly's world combine....does this mean more football on the horizon?

This wasn't a favorite, but I loved getting to know these 2 and I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

I received and ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book had two of my favorite tropes. Friends to lovers and the trope where one of the main characters is sick and the other takes care of them. It's also a bisexual awakening story.
I really really loved it, I read it in a day! The characters were fantastic, so well developed and beautifully written. They felt like real people, I cared for the them and was rooting for their happily ever after. Their chemistry was explosive. I could feel the tension between them and when they finally got together it was so satisfying and beautiful.
There were so many great scenes in the book. Pride, Igor trying to bake, the surprise in the epilogue. Such a feel good book.
I can't wait for the next one in the series!

What a wonderful story and Igor and Yuri were perfect together! I love stories where people have time to really get to know each other and though they had been friends and teammates for years they recently are looking at each other in a new light. It is always interesting to have someone realize later in life that they are not really straight and Yuri realizing that he is seeing Igor in a new light.
Igor is the funniest brat ever and loves driving Yuri crazy and slowly they find that they are Dom and submissive and learning the ropes is funny and moving and the entire cake fiasco is a scream and the ending made me tear up and laugh. Love these stories and looking forward to the next one.

“Scored” follows Igor and Uri, both hockey players for the Grizzlies. Igor is retiring as a player and moving to a coaching position after his second hip surgery. Uri is his best friend and helps take care of him after surgery. Igor has always been straight…or thought he was. Spending so much time with his best friend starts to bring new feelings and emotions to light that weren’t there before.

This was a fun and quick read for me. I enjoyed the Russian elements of this, different than most books I’ve read. At times, it felt like the story was moving too quickly and other times too slowly. Aside from the pacing be a bit off, it was an enjoyable read. I really loved how Igor was a pain in the butt for Uri. Friends to lovers is so sweet. 🥹

Cute Love Story!

Friends to lovers is a favorite trope of mine. We've read time and time again...never fall for the straight guy. Lol. Yuri has always been able to keep space between him and Igor when it came to matters of the heart and other places! When Igor needs surgery, Yuri decides he's going to be the one to help him recover. It takes a lot of patience, which he has, and a lot of communication. Neither one of them are very good at it but especially when Igor starts seeing his best friend in a different way. This is a low angst, all the feels that two big gruff hockey players can give you, great read!!!

In some worlds, Igor and Yuri would have been enemies. But as members of the Nashville Grizzlies, their friendship is legendary. Yes, they play the same position, but they are not just mentor and student, they are neighbors and best friends. Yuri is there to see him through his surgery and rehab when Igor suffers a career-ending injury. What happens next is a reversal of roles in the relationship department ... Igor becomes the student and Yuri the teacher - and both of them learn to embrace what once seemed impossible. I love this universe and offer thanks to the author for modeling for us a radically inclusive and multicultural community in the South.

loved!!!!!

This story was awesome. I loved getting yuri and Igor’s story. They have always been best friends and their teasing and taunting has always been hilarious in previous books. Watching Igor realize he isn’t as straight as he thought was adorable and all the while yuri hid his feelings he knew he shouldn’t have for his straight best friend. But his also need for particular kinks made him all the more guilty for he knew he would never get what he wanted. But oh how wrong they both were. Their chemistry is electric. Loved their steamy scenes. Nothing crazy bdsm in here but spankings, mild power exchange and edging. Loved the book can’t wait for more.

The pacing of this book is so strange. There is just SO MUCH TALKING. Igor spends so many chapters talking to his new best friend Ryder about his sexuality and kink. Igor and Yuri spend so many chapters talking to each other about their sexuality and their kink. And then the author gives us only a few scenes that actually explore that sexuality and kink!
For a hockey book, there is almost no hockey, until the end, when we have to contend with the fact that Igor is now Yuri's coach and that somehow their teammates and the whole team are fine with that even though it's a huge power imbalance problem.
I really wanted to like this one, but it has some issues for sure.
