Lost. Reckless. In love.

Cubby Clark is the heart of her band—loyal, earnest, and determined to make music that matters. But just as they’re about to break out, Connor, her on-again, off-again boyfriend walks away . . . and rockets to solo fame with a hit song tearing her down.

Left with a fractured band, a publicly adored and toxic ex, and relentless writer’s block, Cubby is barely holding it together.

The only thing keeping her steady are her friends and bandmates Darcy and Harry. Especially Darcy—bright, magnetic, and more guarded than she lets on. But, when a seemingly romantic photo of Cubby and Harry goes viral the same night Cubby and Darcy hook-up, the inseparable pair begin to fracture.

Thrust into a whirlwind tour, Cubby and Darcy are forced into close quarters. Now Cubby has one summer to decide what she’s willing to risk. Walking away would be easier. But staying might mean everything.

This is the second book I’ve read by Mazey Eddings and I really enjoyed it! It centers on Cubby, a 23 year old musician whose ex just abandoned their group. Even worse, his first single is about how horrible their relationship was (as if he wasn’t the one who made it toxic). Luckily, she has her best friends Darcy and Harry to lean on. Within all of the chaos, Darcy and Cubby hook-up which is not confusing at all (it is) and they definitely do not pretend it didn’t happen the morning after (they do pretend). But pretending doesn’t mean the feelings just go away, which would be a lot already except that fans think Cubby and Harry are the ones who are dating. Trying to capitalize on the media attention, the band goes on a tour filled with fake dating between Cubby and Harry and so much angst and who knows what with Darcy and Cubby all while being scrutinized online. It’s a story about art, identity, and who we are in relationships.

You will probably like this book if you like:
🎸 Sapphic romance about bandmantes
🎸 Best friends to lovers
🎸 Queer awakening
🎸 Fake dating with the wrong person
🎸 Oops, there’s only one bed
🎸 Mental health rep (depression)
🎸 Discussion of society’s and media’s unfair treatment of women

I think Mazey Eddings is an exceptionally skilled writer. She is able to strike the perfect balance between humor (the book is really funny) and deep emotions. I highlighted so much of the book because she has this ability to perfectly sum up a situation or feeling with words that you wouldn’t have thought of but that are a perfect description. For example, in an attempt to feel like she has some control over all of the hate she is receiving online, Cubby gets addicted to checking her social media apps and Mazey says this: “The notifications have a barbed lasso around my brain, my neurons shriveling up like dehydrated fruit, howling in desperation for another dopamine hit.” The imagery of the barbed lasso is just so perfect and unexpected and interesting.

Because of her skills, I think Mazey does an amazing job of tackling complex themes and feelings in a way that doesn’t feel overwritten. Cubby is a complicated character – she has been made to feel like she is unloveable from her relationship with her ex, she is receiving so much hate online, she is not sure how to navigate her relationship with Harry and Darcy, she is filled with rage at the injustice of how her ex is being treated versus how she is being treated – she has a lot going on and yet all of her feelings and motivations make perfect sense. If there are miscommunications, they are totally justified. If she feels sad, mad, depressed, confused, happy, it is all perfectly crafted. I felt everything that she felt, related to her a lot, and was rooting for her the whole time.

I also love that the theme of how society, specifically how media, treats men (specifically heterosexual, cis, white men) differently from women and queer folks continued from Mazey’s previous book, “Well, Actually.” There is an exploration of that and how social media can impact mental health without feeling preachy and I liked how much anger Cubby felt about the situation (love to see female rage in a book).

Even though the plot synopsis feels like there will be a ton of things going on (the road trip, the fake dating, the love triangle, rock stars!), this book leans more on the side of talking, thinking, processing as opposed to action. It felt like folks moving to a new location, talking (or not talking) about their feelings, Cubby processing or internalizing it, and then moving to the next location. Sometimes that meant that the pacing just felt a little slow and while I usually prefer a little more external conflict, I was okay with most of the conflict being Cubby’s internal conflict because of the quality of the writing.

Overall, I am so excited for this to come out in June and in the meantime, I think I need to read more of Mazey’s back catalogue!

I highly recommend checking out Kelsey’s review (we buddy read together) because she has some really valid critiques!

Warning! This is just a pre-review, then turned into a review. *lol*

Okay, story time... and possibly a hot take.

When I was a kid, Barbie and the Diamond Castle was THE Barbie movie for me and my then-bff. She and I were absolutely obsessed with it. We watched it constantly, knew the songs by heart, we danced like them, and would probably have dropped everything if someone had offered us a magical diamond castle.

Fast-forward more than a decade, and I've seen a lot of people point out the sapphic undertones between Liana and Alexa. And honestly? I get it.

So when I came across You Won't Forget Me and was lucky enough to receive an ARC (still one of the best things that's happened to me as a reader), my brain immediately made a connection that it has refused to let go of ever since.

My thoughts about the book: I genuinely loved this book. It was such an emotional, fun, and memorable read, and I completely understand why these characters stayed in my head. The relationships, the music, the feelings, and the way the story explores connection and finding your own path really worked for me. I already know this is a book I want to reread again in the future.

Returning to Barbie discussion again.

~Am I saying this book is a retelling of Diamond Castle? No.
~Am I saying Mazey Eddings secretly wrote adult Diamond Castle fanfiction? Also no.
~Am I saying that, in my heart, this book feels like a modern, very loosely inspired, grown-up version of what Liana and Alexa could have been? Maybe.

"Maybe Barbie movies permanently altered my pattern-recognition skills."

Hear me out:
- Blonde and brunette duo? Check.
- A deep emotional bond at the center of the story? Check.
- Music playing a major role in their lives? Check.
- Singing, performing, and chasing dreams together? Check.
- Me becoming emotionally attached to the duo and immediately thinking of Diamond Castle? Unfortunately, also check.

Obviously the stories are very different, and I'm not claiming they're actually connected in any way. But as someone who grew up loving Diamond Castle and later joined the "wait... were Liana and Alexa a little bit fruity?" club, I can't help seeing echoes of that dynamic here.

Maybe I'm completely delusional. Maybe Barbie movies permanently altered my pattern-recognition skills. Or maybe this is simply Diamond Castle for the girls who grew up.

Either way, I loved the journey, and I thoroughly enjoyed comparing this book to one of THE Barbie movies!

Easily a 4.5 star read for me and will definitely pick this up again in the future.

You Won't Forget Me is a messy and raw sapphic romance full of yearning and so much emotion. The story follows Cubby, who, after a recent breakup, is struggling to find ground with her band, and Darcy, her bandmate and best friend, who is happy to stick by Cubby's side during this upheaval. This book was so poignant and beautiful, the friends to lovers romance and the found family entwined perfectly with all the ups and downs Cubby goes through to find herself in the end. While this does touch on some deep and emotional topics, the story never got too heavy and I loved that the music and tour background brought so much energy to the plot. Between Cubby and Darcy's relationship unfolding, complicated band dynamics, and all the character growth, I was completely invested from beginning to end. Full of drama, emotion, and longing, this achingly tender romance was so heartfelt and well worth the read.

○★○ What to Expect from This Book: ○★○

About: After Connor—Cubby’s ex bandmate and ex boyfriend—steals one of her songs, Cubby and her band need her rally together for an upcoming US tour amidst a media frenzy that makes Cubby look like a backstabbing hussy. The good news for Cubby is that her childhood best friend Darcy is by her side. The not so good news is that new feelings form and add complication to what is arguably a very difficult time for Cubby.
FMC: Cubby. A 23-year-old band leader, musician, lyricist who recently had a bad public breakup with ex-band mate Connor. Self-aware and articulate, but a bit lost.
FMC 2: Darcy. A 23-year-old musician who was kicked out of her family for pursuing music. A bit closed off, but also a fun time.
Location: All over (Iceland, the UK and the US)
POV: Single first-person (Cubby)
Spice: 2 open-door explicit spicy scenes
Tropes: musicians, friends to lovers, queer awakening, healing after public breakup (there is also fake dating in this, but it is not between the main character and the other love interest)
Triggers: cheating ex (mentioned, off-page), media frenzy around female celebs in romantic relationships, depression, social media addiction
Representation: LGBTQ+ main characters and minor characters, women in music, mental health rep

🎯 My Thoughts:

“What rhymes with meaningless?“
“Penis puss”
😂

While I can appreciate both the story and the quality of the writing, this was ultimately a three-star read for me. Mazey’s prose is lovely and so funny—she reminds me in some ways of Cara Bastone—and her characters are written with real depth and care.

I ended up loving Cubby, but I felt more conflicted about Darcy. She isn’t unlikable, but she felt largely silent for the first 70% of the book, and her eventual shift—while understandable—felt underdeveloped. My biggest issue overall was pacing and focus. I adored the prologue and opening chapters, but the middle (roughly 15–65%) struggled to hold my attention. Much of the first half centers on Cubby’s relationships with Connor and Harry. I appreciated the commentary on the impossible standards placed on female celebrities, especially musicians, but this emphasis often made the Darcy/Cubby relationship feel secondary.

One of my favorite scenes was Darcy and Cubby discussing Cubby’s addiction to validation through social media and how that impacted Darcy’s hesitation—that moment felt honest and beautifully done. However, I was disappointed that a deeply explored mental health thread ultimately felt too closely tied to the romantic arc.

All said and done, this was a beautiful read that fans of Mazey’s will enjoy.

Bonus: Fans of her books Tilly in Technicolor and Well, Actually will love the little Easter eggs.

You Won't Forget Me follows Cubby Clark and her band as they start to breakout on the world stage.

Part of the buzz around the band, and Cubby in particular, is driven by the success of their ex-bandmate, Connor, who has recently began his own solo career.

Cubby and Connor were in a relationship for years, and after they broke up and he left to do his own thing, he sort of threw her under the bus, using their private moments for lyric inspiration and worse.

The things he's said haven't painted Cubby in the best light, and she finds all of the scrutiny and speculation super embarrassing. Nevertheless, he's getting attention from it, and seemingly to Connor, that's all that matters.

Cubby and the rest of the band try their best to just ignore Connor and do their own thing. They have a unique sound and they eventually are able to gain some traction.

We follow the band after they get the opportunity to travel to the U.S. to perform on a Summer Tour. In the midst of that, Cubby and BFF, Darcy's relationship starts to heat up. The close proximity and emotions of the road have left them both with unavoidable feelings.

Will they be able to overcome the obstacles in their way, or would walking away be the easier path?

Y'all, I'm bummed out that this only ended up being a 2-star read for me. I really like Mazey Eddings, and reading the Author's Note, you can tell that this was a personal and challenging story for Eddings to write. I have to be honest though, and I really didn't enjoy it.

I was bored, annoyed, and I just wanted it to be over. The only part that worked for me was the bands Tour. Even then though, some of the interactions amongst them felt cringey.

I've enjoyed many of Eddings books in the past, but this one just didn't work for my tastes. I was looking for fun banter and swoony romance, and that's not what I got, unfortunately. IMO, there's nothing cute or fun about this, as the cover would suggest.

Additionally, to me the romance between Cubby and Darcy felt forced and desperate. I feel like both girls need to do a lot of work on themselves before they can possibly be in a healthy relationship.

With all of this being said, this is just my opinion and as far as the content goes, breaks down to personal taste. If you think it sounds interesting, absolutely give it a go. It could end up working for you.

Even though this one didn't work out for me, I still plan to pick up whatever Eddings releases next. I've read four of her other novels and really enjoyed them all, so I'm guessing this is just a one off for me.

Thank you to the publisher, St. Martin's Griffin and Macmillan Audio, for providing me with a copies to read and review. The audiobook was well narrated, and if you're going to pick it up, I would recommend that format.

I want to give Cubby the biggest hug.

This was such a good read.

It’s a swoony romance between two best friends, with a bit of love triangle that will have you screaming “TROUPLE!!!!!!” (though the resolution is very satisfactory). It’s filled to the brim with found family and the complicated dynamics those can involve!

It also tackled the hard things with care. Depression, OCD, the toxic nature of social media, sexual identity later in life, medias treatment of women vs men, terrible parents, great parents, gosh this book was packed with real-life struggles that are east to relate to.

Audio Narration: 5/5
Single Narration & Single POV: Abi Hardiman with a bonus scene performed by Aleksander Varadian
Length:11 hrs 28 mins
Thoughts: THIS WAS AMAZING on audio! The music!? the fact that the narrator actually performs (sings) the songs with musical accompaniment?! Perfection! The voice variation, pausing, pacing, inflection for the remainder of the book was also top tier. I would absolutely listen to more audiobooks narrated by Abi Hardiman!

So, I’ll start by saying that the most unrealistic thing in this book is the fact that Cubby had a waffle immediately after getting her wisdom teeth out. 😹

Jokes aside, I’m super on the fence about whether to round up or down. The truth is, I liked this book. The cover is absolutely gorgeous, and I liked the premise, the characters, and the writing. But somehow, the execution didn’t completely land for me. Eddings does a good job tackling themes like sexuality, mental health, toxic relationships, the impacts of social media, and parasocial relationships (in a way); however, a lot of that focus, combined with the pacing of the book, took away from what was supposed to be a romance novel. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the concept of Cubby and Darcy together, but I felt there was far more focus on the band’s issues and Cubby’s relationship with Harry than on the intended couple. I just wish we got more moments between the two girls as they discovered what they meant to each other because their relationship was essentially nonexistent for the first 70% of the book, and then suddenly we were getting love confessions.

That being said, I really liked the characters independently from the plot. Some of them were annoying at times or just straight-up unlikable, but that’s the whole point. These characters are in their early twenties and shot to fame overnight— they’re nowhere near having their shit together, and it’s unrealistic to expect them to. Which brings me to my next point: Cubby 𝘪𝘴 the victim. I felt like I was getting gaslit right alongside her because she could not catch a break, and everyone made it seem like she was crazy for feeling some type of way about the events in her life. At one point, I found myself questioning why she was even friends with these people— especially after that third-act conflict. Cubby’s better than me because I would not have forgiven them that easily. Friendships can be messy though, and you can tell that the band really does care about each other in their own way.

But what this book lacks in romance really makes up for it with humor, chaotic energy, and characters who feel real and flawed. If you like self-discovery, angst, and celebrity/band tropes, this is the book for you!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC. All thoughts are my own.

You Won’t Forget Me by Mazey Eddings
Contemporary sapphic romance.
Band mates Cubby, Darcy, Harry and Connor want to perform original music that matters. Just as they become popular, Connor breaks from the group to perform as a solo artist, claiming their music as his own. With reporters circling and fans wanting gossip, Cubby struggles to create new content that will prove they can survive while also growing closer to Darcy.

🎧 I was able to alternate between an ebook and an audiobook. The narration was performed by Abi Hardiman, an UK based narrator who created distinct voices for Cubby and her band mates. The highlight of the audiobook is the original performed music throughout as Cubby creates and expresses her love, heartbreak, and worry. The guitar music adds originality that is unique to the format.
The epilogue is performed by Aleksander Varadian as a reporter covering the band’s status.

Filled with the angst of a new and uncertain love, the story is drama, yearning and hope. The original music included in the audiobook adds to the storyline and underlying turbulent emotions.

thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc!

this was very british coded.

cubby and darcy’s friendship felt genuine, the chemistry was there from the beginning, and i completely understood why cubby was spiraling over her best friend. the physical touch, the longing, the identity crisis, the “oh no, i am hopelessly obsessed with my best friend” of it all worked for me.

the romance was sweet, the banter was fun, and the sex scene delivered.

that said, i think the characters being 23 played a huge role in my reading experience. there were multiple moments where cubby made a decision and i wanted to lovingly shake her by the shoulders. every time connor appeared, i found myself wondering why she was giving that man even a second of her time.

but then i had to remind myself that she’s 23. she’s getting her wisdom teeth removed. she’s figuring herself out. she’s chasing closure that she probably knows won’t help. unfortunately, that all felt very realistic.

where the book lost me a bit was the third act. there was a lot of drama surrounding darcy’s fears about being public with their relationship, and i wanted a stronger emotional payoff for everything that came before it.

i also would’ve loved to see darcy introduce cubby to her parents. it feels like a missing piece of the story, even if the whole thing would’ve been a complete dumpster fire given her parents’ beliefs.

This is a sweet and also slightly miserable romance. For a majority of the book, Cubby is consumed by the relationships with the men in her life. Don’t get me wrong, Darcy is a significant presence but since it’s single pov, as the reader you experience the moments Cubby is lost in misery over her ex and has to fake date Harry, while presumably Darcy is pining off page. At one point Cubby laments being defined by the men in her life but the narrative mirrors this too because often Darcy appears like a ghost in this story. I think the yearning could have been taken up a notch if we were let into Darcy’s head too but as is there was something missing. Cubby is also dealing with her own toxic swirl of depression, anxiety, compulsions, and comp het and so my body was similarly filled with discomfort alongside Cubby. This is less a stomach swooping romance and more a hard fought journey toward self love, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but something to know going in. I do think the themes of burnout and battling mental demons are an important story to tell, so overall read if you’re looking for something broody and heartfelt.

A rock-n-roll romance with a lot of ambition and a lot of heart. Cubby is the leader of a band in Iceland, they are about the make it big when their lead guitarist and her recent ex goes out on his own, steals her lyrics, and hits it big with a song about her. She is understandably furious at him. Thank God she has her best friend Darcy, the bassist, and her other friends in the band. Soon a post by Harry, Connor's best friend, suggests that she and Harry are an item. So they, naturally, start fake dating, the Trope of 2026.

This is a bit of a twist on fake dating, because Cubby is in love with Darcy, not Harry. She has a twin brother, Oliver. Oliver and his girlfriend Tilly are my favorite part of this book, I only wish they were on page more often. Oliver is autistic and he and Cubby have two moms. Despite this, Cubby is still ingrained in heteronormativity and is confused by her sexuality. There is a dee sadness and depression to her, and Connor treated her as if she were hard to love. This is hardest and most awful thing to hear as someone with depression.

Stories about straight passing women dealing with wondering if they are queer are not for everyone. But that is this book, and while it is done very respectfully this is hard for some to read.

This one grew on me over time with some of the storylines and other storylines I felt were unnecessary. But I am glad to see that Mazey Eddings finally used her dentist skills for a storyline- no spoilers. Did you know Mazey Eddings is a dentist? #random

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

"I would erase every song in the world if it meant bringing you back to me."

"I know her lips better than my own, their every smile, every frown. I know the corner she bites when she's upset and the spot in the center when she's holding back a laugh. I know how she purses them when she's frustrated and how they get cracked in the winter."

"She's my muse and my torment and my best friend and the love of my life."

This book was a masterpice and I'm literally lost for words. Finished it in about 3-4 hours and than I spend most of that day staring at a wall and thinking about Cubby and Darcy and Harry and Kale and Skull. I love all of them sooo much, but I adore Cubby and Darcy. The friends to lovers romance was fucking incredible and I'm a person who hates this trope with all my heart... but Cubby and Darcy, their friendship, their soft moments and everything in their relationship was just perfection. I didn't think I would love a rock band romance but I definitely did.
The book touches on some thought topics like depression and grief and alcoholism and I loved how Mazey Eddings wrote about these.

What seemed like it was missing for me personally was how small the book was. I mean, it's 350 pages, but I would have definitely read another 150-200. I wanted more of Cubby and Darcy together in the end, I wanted to see Darcy confronting her family and I wanted more with the band.

I really really hope Mazey will write more about these characters, because I'm definitely not ready to leave them behind.

⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 (3.5 stars, rounded up here)

This was a rollercoaster of emotions! And I think I can’t even count all the times I cried or had tears in my eyes while reading which is surpising, given the fact that I went into this expecting a fun and lighthearted rom-com. Though, it is incredibly great that Mazey Eddings included Content Warnings for Depression, Heteronormativity etc. right at the beginning.
But let’s start into the story now. First off, I really liked the characters overall, I did have my problems with each of them but it made them overall more realistic too, it was clear that all of them had flaws which, in turn, made reading their stories much more realistic. I also really adored the way the story handled the friends to lovers dynamic and really made it a SLOW burn (emphasis on slow here), nothing felt rushed at all and I truly appreciated it so much because it made the eventual romance feel really earned and anticipated.
Seconldy, I liked the way the story dealt with the toxicity of social media as well as the music industry, where drama is worth more than a healthy dynamic. I truly appreciated the way the story shed light on these topics and didn’t sugarcoat them at all. Especially the fact that Cubby always checked her comments too and the emotional meltdown near the end really hit it all home for me.
Besides these points though, I also have a few negative points that I noticed throughout the story. First of all, ones Cubby and Darcy admitted they loved each other and are more than friends, it all felt really rushed. Sure, I understood the reasons behind it but as a reader, it felt like a crash from high back to the low (also with Darcy asking to hide it but that was more understandable and nicely explained). Moreover, I would’ve liked to see Darcy’s POV or get to know more about her relationships in general, the same with Cubby and her family. We got a few mentions every now and again and a few phone calls but I would’ve loved to really get a deeper view into these dynamics.
Overall, I can say that I did enjoy reading the story. I even have to admit that I liked it more than I would’ve thought, but I still have a few points that I disliked. Nevertheless, I recommend this to everyone who wants to read an emotional friends to lovers wlw romance which still tackles topics realy well that are pretty complex.

The author note mentions this book being hard to write, had many iterations, and started as one thing and ended up being another and i see it. While I believe this book has good bones, the execution left me a bit wanting.

Cubby, our FMC, is going through it. Between her continuing and openly deteriorating mental health and her crumbling public image, I wish she had more support than she was given (the moments with her moms and brother shone but ended too quickly) especially from her band. Taking out the romantic aspects, I couldn’t care less about the band given how they treated Cubby. None of them resonated with me especially in how quick they were able to ignore Cubby’s obvious struggles - some of which they co-signed - and none of which are properly addressed/handled at all. The roadtrip/tour aspect would have been more fun had this band been more familial and light versus constantly at each other’s throats.

The romance itself? Miscommunication is mostly to blame here. Darcy is supposedly our love interest and while I can get behind their earnest love for each other as best friends and her upbringing informing her reluctance, the fact that it takes soooo long for admission of romantic love (literally 80% in!!) made it hard for me to buy into it. Especially when you have Harry waiting on the wings and Conner lurking around. For a sapphic romance, men were centered so much - i just can’t. If anything, I say Cubby should’ve cut and run and started over somewhere else away from all these folks with a good therapist on speed dial but I digress.

With a band and romance that was hard to get behind plus pacing that was a bit of a slog, I can appreciate what this book is trying to say and do and the ending (although so fast!) somewhat sticks the landing but it ultimately just didn’t hit all the right notes.

It’s Pride Month! so obviously I had to start with an anticipated sapphic romance courtesy of Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press!

Unfortunately I really struggled with this one. I was very excited to read this, but I just found that I had a lot of issues with some things in the book.

This book follows our FMC Cubby as she navigates depression, sexuality, and love all while trying to make her band a success. I was first drawn to this book because it’s meant to be a romance between Cubby and her best friend and band mate Darcy all while she is fake dating her other band mate Harry. I thought that would create an interesting dynamic, but all it did was make me sad and angry. Cubby was against the fake dating from the start. She is already subjected to a lot of excessive hate on social media and a fake dating scheme would only expose her to more hate (which it did). Instead of anyone (especially her close friends) choosing to listen to her concerns, they all pressured her to agree with the plan in favor of fame and band success. Because of this, Cubby spends the entire rest of the book in a downward destructive depression spiral. My heart ached for her. I desperately kept hoping that her supposed friends and love interest would see her pain and treat her with any ounce of care and compassion, instead they only distanced themselves from her even further.

I found Darcy especially to be a very selfish individual. Yes, Cubby was deeply flawed, but she had the ability to recognize her flaws. But Cubby was struggling through fairly severe mental battles and needed someone, like a best friend, to help pull her out of the dark. Instead, Darcy only pushed Cubby further over the edge. Darcy encouraged the fake dating and then had the temerity to act jealous and angry towards Cubby for doing exactly what everyone wanted her too. Because of this, Darcy would ignore and abandon Cubby and would often release her angry and frustration on her instead of communicating her feelings.

I can understand Darcy’s reasoning later on of struggling to come to terms with her sexual identity under the eyes of her strict and conservative parents. But Cubby has proven to be a steadfast and resolute friend, a constant in Darcy’s life. I’m a firm believer that no matter what bad life experiences you are having, it is no excuse for treating others (especially those you claim to love) with such disrespect.

I was really disappointed and frustrated while reading this book which is hard because I find Mazey’s writing to be brilliant. I mean, it had to be mean something that her writing had me so worked up.

I love books and I love reading. Even if it’s not my favorite book, I also find something great about every story. But this one was a struggle.

Both stars in my review belong solely to Cubby. She is a beautiful, enigmatic, and deeply personal character. I feel such a strong need to protect her, especially from her so-called friends. I rarely ever DNF a book, and the only reason I didn’t DNF this one was because of Cubby. Her pain became my pain and refusing to finish this book felt like giving up on her, and I couldn’t bring myself to do that. I could not leave this story unfinished because, no matter how much I disagreed with the ending, I needed to see her happy after so much pain and heartache.

I wanted to love this, but unfortunately this was not the story I had hoped it would be.

As always, I am forever grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review ARCs like this early. and thank you to St. Martin’s Press as well.

Happy pub day to You Won’t Forget Me!! thanks to @stmartinspress @youhadmeathea for the free early copy and @macmillan.audio for the free audiobook!! This is the perfect sapphic romance to read this Pride month 🩷

You Won’t Forget Me follows Cubby, a musician. A year out from her breakup with her long time boyfriend Colin, Colin leaves their band, goes solo, and becomes famous overnight ripping apart Cubby’s image. Suddenly, Cubby finds herself in the middle of a media storm and when their new manager suggests that Cubby and her bandmate Harry fake date to turn the attention back to their band, Cubby is stuck in a hard place. Adding to the problem is that Cubby may be falling in love with her best friend Darcy…

I LOVE a Mazey Eddings book and this was no exception. Right from the start I could just FEEL the chemistry and tension between Cubby and Darcy and I spent the entire book just rooting for them to be vulnerable with each other and admit their feelings. Mazey writes the most bingeable books, I truly couldn’t put this one down. I just had the best time reading it!

One of my favorite parts of this book is the focus on Cubby’s mental health and specifically her depression, and how that impacted her relationships with everyone. I felt like Mazey really depicted depression accurately and I could relate so much to Cubby’s character. It gave the book such emotional depth!

I listened to the audiobook for this and I highly recommend, the narrator was fantastic and really brought the musical elements of this book to life! I normally don’t love when lyrics and music are incorporated into a book, but I think Mazey did so well with the realistic lyrics and the audiobook made me feel like I was in the band/on tour with Cubby and her friends

3.5!! y’all know childhood friends to lovers is my favorite trope, but this one is special because it’s SAPPHIC 🤭 (even better!!!!!) HAPPY PRIDE ❤️🏳️‍🌈

i’ve read the last few of mazeys books & enjoyed them, so i was excited for this one!! one thing about mazey, though, is she likes for her fmcs to SUFFER!!! i always want to protect them with my life. this book is no exception!!!! i wanted to wrap both fmcs in bubble wrap and carry them in my pocket to keep them safe. i also will say mazey writes fmcs that are so relatable that their pain feels like mine (it makes me upset but i love emotional damage)

the thoughts and feelings that cubby had was so heart wrenching!! my poor girl!!! and darcy having super conservative and controlling parents HURTED!!! it breaks my heart knowing that many people have to deal with that reality on a daily basis. come let me lift you up & protect you 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

i liked the book but i do feel as though its lacking in a few places. for a hot minute i literally thought we were gonna get a throuple situation LOL i was not expecting that at all. also it seemed one minute they were friends and literally the next we are saying i love you - I NEEDED MORE ROMANCEEEEE!! more relationship development i guess?

anyway i did enjoy it! thank you to the publisher for providing this book for review via netgalley. all opinions are my own <3

(btw i loled at the jabs at dentists considering she is one)

Review to come…I have so many feelings about this one 💜

✨✨✨

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio and St Martin’s Press for the ALC! All opinions are my own.

5 STARS!

I absolutely LOVED everything about this audiobook! This was the first sapphic book I have ever read, and I fear that it has given me such a high standard that all others will fall short! Mazey took me through such a rollercoaster of emotions in this story, and I would highly recommend everyone listen to this one. This audiobook is truly one of a kind since there is original music to go along with the lyrics. It made for such an immersive experience!

✨Childhood best friends
🏳️‍🌈Sapphic awakening
✨It’s always been you
🎶Rockstar Romance
✨Fake dating
✨Social media addiction
✨Severe chronic depression
✨Feelings of inadequacy
✨Coming to terms with sexuality

I love these characters so much. Cubby and Darcy have always been best friends. They have gone through everything together. The start of their band, Cubby’s 4 year on again off again relation with Connor (one of the singers in the band), and Connors ultimate betrayal of the group. When a photo of Cubby and Harry (one of the other bandmates) goes viral on Instagram the same night that Cubby and Darcy have a drunken hookup, all hell breaks loose. Suddenly, they are rushing to put together an album for a last-minute tour in order to take advantage of their rising internet fame. But with so many new eyes on the band, not all of the attention is good.

Cubby’s struggle with her mental health was so heartbreaking. The feelings of inadequacy and feeling like you somehow will never be enough but also are always too much. Mazey was able to show the struggles of depression so well. This is probably one of my favorite books of the year and I think that everyone should read this AND listen to it. Immersive reading would be the way to go on this one I think!

Thank you again to Mazey Eddings, NetGalley, St Martins Press, and MacMillian Audio for the ALC!

Oh my god I don’t even know where to start with this book. If you’re queer and have ever kissed one of your friends to “practice” this book is for you. If you’ve ever been scared to come out because of your parents this book is for you. If you ever thought of risking the friendship… READ THIS BOOK!

The book starts out with the main character, Cubby, and her best friend Darcy kissing so Cubby can practice for a date with her bandmate. The bandmate she later on ends up dating on and off for five years. Fast forward to after their breakup Conners musical career takes off leaving Cubby and the rest of the band behind to pick up the broken pieces. Stuck in a rut, overstimulated by the internet, and obviously frustrated at her exes slights towards her in his new single Cubby and the band end up writing a song and then going to a bar and celebrating. Cubby and Darcy get drunk and hook up. A magical moment they both feel so deep inside of them, that they proceed to never talk about again. While on tour. While Cubby is supposed to fake a romantic relationship with Harry their pianist who also happens to be her exes closest friend. Surprise surprise they run from their feelings and end up hurting each other.

Cubby love was such a trip in this book. She’s feisty, she’s outspoken, she’s fucking awesome. She’s also a really good representation of someone who’s depressed. Not only that but a lot of her depression revolves around social media. In an addictive relationship with instagram, news outlets, and Snapchat Cubby finds herself in a constant cycle checking to see what the next hateful person has to say about her and her screwed up love life. All the while she’s pining for Darcy and trying to come to terms with her sexuality. Unknowingly Darcy is doing the same thing. A pretty relatable thing for most people my age. I think most people are in a toxic relationship with social media, I deleted all of mine a few years back and only resurface every so often to let my friends back home know I’m still alive. It took Darcy throwing Cubby’s phone into the ocean for her to stop the compulsion.

It’s kind of funny reading a plot line that feels like it’s picked right from your own life. While I related to Darcy a lot due to her taste in books and adventurous spirit, Cubby was a constant reminder that I too have been in her shoes before. Nothing like a good romance that hits home. The only difference? They fell in love.

At the beginning I found myself feeling angry toward Darcy for constantly shoving Cubby off when she wanted to talk about what happened or her feelings. It can be challenging as someone who’s never had a queer experience to rationalize what’s going on in their head, especially when it’s your best friend nonetheless. This is true for both girls. However, towards the end of the book Darcy finally opens up about her fears because of the way she was raised. The full circle moment made me love her even more. Angsty twenty something year olds trying to process emotions is funny to read about when you experience it every day lol.

True to the amazing story line, Darcy comes out on social media as pan and declares her love for Cubby. It ends with a kiss in front of a crowd at a pride parade and then radio silence from the entire band on all platforms. When I tell you I could not stop crying, I mean I sobbed in bed for a while after I was done. This book really touched a place in my heart I haven’t revisited in a while. A younger version of me would have thrown this at a wall and screamed that it’s unfair that they got what I couldn’t have. A healed version of me cried over how beautiful love can be and the hope that has returned to my heart. This will be a book I come back to often keeping it tucked safely away in my heart.

I think Mazey Eddings did a wonderful job at touching on subjects like gay panic, depression, compulsion/obsession, and the process of creating music. I felt fully immersed the entire time I was reading this. Not wanting to put it down for even a second. The plot delivered nothing but laughs, tension, and longing. The characters were lovable and relatable. The banter was so good, even when the band was fighting. Everything about this was perfect for me! So grateful for the opportunity to have read it before it was released! Also this was my first NetGalley book eeeeek!!!!!

Fingers crossed we get Harry & Kale’s story next!!!!!!

Thank you to the author and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

As I get older, I find it harder to relate to characters in their early 20s, so when I began the novel and saw that the MCS would be in their early 20s (around 23) I was apprehensive that I would be able to relate and not have the thought of them being immature. In this instance, it’s honestly the members of Cubby’s band that piss me off. They are labeling her as dramatic for having valid feelings about being called a slut and a whore for literally existing. It infuriated me to see ALL of them dismiss her feelings. Even Darcy does, which also brings me to the fact of them hooking up. If my best friend said they barely remembered the night before( doesn’t matter that she’s lying) I would be freaking out.. because if you can’t remember, then that’s a consent issue. But Darcy doesn’t seem bothered at all.

With that being said, the writing is amazing and I didn’t expect anything else from the author. I was able to read it quickly because it flowed so well. Mazey is amazing at writing and keeping the reader engaged.

Thank god for Oliver, Cubby’s twin brother for being the voice of reason and seeing how. much all the sexist hate she is getting is affecting her. Once again, her bandmates piss me off by their lack of empathy.

The characters are definitely flawed. I felt myself screaming at Cubby for some of the choices she made. But I do feel like that is a testament to the writing. Is angst my preference? Not really, but I don’t think the story could’ve worked without it.

I loved the representation of autism and Cubby having two moms. I don’t think I’ve ever read a novel where one of the MCs had two same sex parents.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I still think Cubby deserved better in terms of friends and bandmates. like I said earlier, I read this pretty fast and I attribute that to how well the author writes.

2,5 ⭐️😖

First, the cover is absolutely beautiful. As for the book, I loved the connection between all the band members. It really felt like a family where people fight but mostly help each others out. Darcy was my favorite. I wish we had her POV too, just to see her train of thoughts on a few situations. Overall, I would have love the book to focus a little more on the romance, even with such important topics as depression, toxic relationships and social media impact on people. I wanted to like this book so much and I tried really hard but it just didn’t click for me for most of it.

Having previously read Mazey Eddings, I was super excited for her newest release, You Won't Forget Me. She always has some quirky characters and generally a unique and intriguing character arc that just hits. But what captured me for this particular book was the fact it was labeled as a sapphic romance set within a band. And she comes out strong depicting a true and tender friendship between Cubby and Darcy. I loved how physical their friendship was and how much they truly loved one another. It was easy to see by the first pages alone. Their first kiss right out of the gate which was supposed to be a lesson for Cubby? Electric, unexpected and beautiful, with so much potential. SO color me surprised that we backtrack and Cubby ends up in a weird, on and off relationship with a guy (Connor) that not only ruins her in multiple ways, but also their band. Then we continue on to navigate Cubby releasing that part of her past, the band trying to figure out their next steps, and the effects social media plays on the aftermath of not only Connor and Cubby's relationship, but also the success of their band going forward.

"Life is nothing but confusion. Learning to embrace the joy in the awful mess of it all is what makes it worth living."

After the first few bombs and the reconfiguring of their band and how they were going to proceed after Connor left the band, I was excited to see how Eddings was going to move Darcy and Cubby's relationship forward. But it almost got put on the back burner for a fake relationship between Cubby and Harry, another band member. I actually loved not only their friendship, but the band as a whole and how they cared for one another. But I wanted to get more of the actual sapphic romance that this book was being labeled as. Unfortunately, the fake dating is what seemed to be more of the focus for the sake of the band's success. Don't get me wrong. I love a good fake dating scenario and it was working for social media and their band, but at what cost to not only Cubby's mental health, but also her friendships within the band? Most of all, Darcy's. AND like I said, I wanted more of Darcy and Cubby!! I wanted to get in Darcy's head earlier than we did and I wanted to feel her yearning too.

With that said, I still enjoyed the band and the tour they were given along with the fake dating of Harry and Cubby. We still get to see the close friendship Darcy and Cubby have and how connected each band member is with each other giving you that found family feel. Speaking of family, I loved Cubby's moms. They were such a rock for her in life. I also loved that Mazey really dug into the realities of being successful within the music industry, the effects of social media and how outside forces affect mental health. It actually was quite heavy and at times daunting, but Eddings quirky humor and character building still showed through giving us lighter moments.

Overall, Eddings hit on a lot of complex subject matter, but that pulled away from the relationship I wanted to see building between Darcy and Cubby which almost seemed secondary. It was definitely a slow burn and did evolve, but very late in the game. Also, there was some weird medical/dental situation that didn't really work for me at the end, but it did help push Darcy and Cubby together and to communicate their thoughts and feelings. I just wish we got more of their actual romance and communication between them.

IF you're looking for a story that has:
Fake Dating
Best friends to lovers
Band drama
Found Family
Queer awakening
Mental Health Rep
Slow Burn
Social Media Toxicity
With a lack of communication about feelings, then you may enjoy Eddings latest romance.

3,5⭐️ i thought i would love this more but unfortunately i didn't. i really liked the whole talk about cubby's depression, the social media addiction and the toxic internet culture. abd of courseee the fact that it's a band and they're doing music, playing concerts was so fun!!! but i wish we just could have more focus on the actual romance, which was just messy but also at the end too fast paced in my opinon. i understand that cubbys pov is very important due to her being such a complex character, but a pov from darcy would have been also incredible interesting to look at and see her perspective on things happening throughout the story. why was this book so men-centered when it's a sapphic romance??? it took me out a bit.
