Cho “Brick” Brixton enjoys cooking, working in his yard, and binge-watching television while living as an out and proud gay man in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. His parents had the perfect romance, having fallen in love at first sight when they met in Korea, and Brick longs to find a love like that for his own. Whipping up meals for one isn’t much fun, and the constant boredom is a drag.

Not to mention it’s miserably lonely.

All of that changes when a giant mysterious hunk named Jules Price moves in next door. Jules has arrived on business of the not-so-legal sort, namely to retrieve something that was stolen from his criminal family. When he’s not busy being a vicious gangster, Jules is set on getting close to Brick and exploring his first ever attraction to another man. Although Brick has been yearning for the excitement of meeting that special someone, he soon realizes he may have bitten off more than he can swallow.

As their romance heats up, so too does the danger, and Brick finds himself in the middle of a bloodbath in the making if Jules can’t get back what he came here for. Luckily for Brick, Jules is the kind of man who will stop at nothing to keep him safe, and he doesn’t care who gets in his way—or how high the body count gets.

Cash is part of the Ruthless Daddies multi-author collab and a complete standalone. Expect to find a criminal Daddy, a tough boy, high steam, and some dark mafia themes. Want more deliciously morally gray Daddies and boys? Grab the whole series!

I can't believe Jules' book was in front of my face this entire time and it took me this freaking long to read it.

(Jules is the badass gangster and Cold's (from Cold Hard Cash) right hand man)

Rating: 3.5-stars ⭐✨✨✨✨

→ I really wanted to rate this book 4⭐ because it truly is a 4-star book, but Brick was so... bratty and fiesty. My patience is already so terribly low so you can just see how reading this went. But that doesn't mean Brick was annoying, it's the opposite. IM ANNOYING. Just a matter of different tastes.

→ Also, Jules is such a fucking SOFTIE-MY HEART!!!!!🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 He's so precious. I would gladly sacrifice a limb to be his precious baby boy.

→ I loved the cameo at the end with Cold and Jimmy Poe with Jules and Brick ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ made me heart all melty.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Cash is part of the Ruthless Daddies multi-author collection, but the stories are designed to stand alone and I had no problem jumping in here. However, I will note that this book loosely connects to Hiers’ Cold Hard Cash series, as Jules is Cold’s “brother” and they are part of the same crime family. Cold and Jimmy do make a brief cameo here, and I assume that some of the side characters cross over a bit, but again, I was able to jump into this story without having read that series with no problem.

This is a fun twist on a Daddy/boy dynamic as Brick is not your typical lithe, twinky boy. They call him Brick for a reason, and he is a tall and bulky guy. Of course, Jules is even taller and bulkier, something that Brick loves. He is not used to feeling small and protected given his size, so Jules basically being a giant allows him to have the dynamic he loves.

Cash by K.L. Hiers is part of the Ruthless Daddies series by multiple authors. This book is about Brick and Jules. Brick has the gayest front yard in the neighborhood. When Jules moves in next door the man from the moving truck destroys part of Brick's garden. Jules gives him cash and offers to help clean up......

I liked Brick and Jules' story. It was sweet, sexy, exciting, thrilling and well written.

A, uh, sort of Cinderella story? Insta Gay-For-You? Humble worker drone suddenly becomes Mafia Royalty?
Hits the spot for a certain kind of guilty pleasure. The sex is hot but just way too much.

This is, in fact, a script for a gay porn movie.

🟡 #6 in the Ruthless Daddies series

You may ask yourself at the beginning of this book - how can you finish 384 pages of this so-called-mafia plot with countless of unnecessary details and boring side characters? Well, just have in mind that this is porn - hot, horny MMCs, a silly plot and a lot of screwing - and you'll be fine.

"Woof," Brick mumbled into his mug. Wow, was this guy hot.

Just thinking about him and his big hands made Brick grunt out loud.
Woof, indeed.

So, Brick is a gay guy who's a big, 6'4" (193 cm) tall beefcake and half-Korean, so you'll get a lot of interesting ideas for korean foods and recipes - in detail - and while Brick's completely content living alone in his little fairytale house with the gay front yard (no, I'm not kidding), he gets a hot new neighbour, Jules.

Jules is a part of gay mafia (no, again, I'm not kidding) and he's in town for business. He's straight, although everyone he knows and associates with is gay, so when he meets Brick, he's immediately down for whatever, no questions asked. You know, like most straight guys.

Was it worth reading it? Yeah, for me it was, because if there's something I really appreciate in books, it's the good, hot, descriptive sex scenes and fine dirty talk and boy, let me tell you, this book had exactly that.

The murdering plot aside (this is porn, we're not here for the plot), the story was boring and it didn't pull me in, but Brick and Jules sure did.

Imagine. Brick is already a really tall, beefy guy and Jules is a bear, who's even taller, bigger, sturdier and can easily pick Brick up and fuck him against the wall. The visuals for these two were HOT and I was willing to suffer through the 400 pages solely for their sex scenes.

The dirty talk, ufff, the dirty talk was pretty damn good. As I said, a porn script. 😄😏

Jules rubbed the head of his dick over Brick's lips. "Come on, baby. Just suck me a little. You don't even have to take the whole thing. Just suck on the tip for a lil' while."

"Fuck yeah. God, you want it so bad, huh? You want me to fuck you, baby? You want me to stuff your ass like I'm stuffin' your tight lil' throat?"

"God, that's good. That's so goddamn good. Yes, come on, yeah, Daddy. Come on, fuck me, Daddy, harder, please. Come on, wreck my fuckin' hole, Daddy."

"Hang on tight." Jules grinned and shifted his hands, so they were cupping Brick's ass. His legs were bent as his knees and his thighs took on some of Brick's weight. He began to pound up into Brick's ass, bouncing him on his cock with extraordinary force. "There we go, there we go, baby. Fuck yes, that's it."

There's SO much more where that came from and you know, I for one am glad finally someone's doing their research and watching porn, none of that awkward dialogues and weird scenes, no, none of that, just pure male/male sex and it was really good, at least for me it was.

The Daddy/boy dynamic was there, but it wasn't your usual dom/sub or even just provide/protect, not really, Jules was taking care of Brick, but Brick could easily hold his own, he was fierce. But even so, he was calling Brick "baby boy", which is usually cringe as hell for me, but in this particular case I definitely liked it. Both tall, big hunks calling each other daddy and baby boy, I mean come on, this was hot as hell.

🔵 And to finish it off with the conclusion of the amazing gay mafia plot...

Jules rocked him gently and smothered kisses into his hair. "I'm never leaving you ever fuckin' again, I swear it. Not ever. I don't care if you gotta go take a shit. I'll be in there with you holdin' your hand while you pinch one off."

"You'll be a good boy and do whatever Daddy says..." He paused. "But maybe I'll just wait outside the door of the bathroom, huh?"

"Yeah, that might be better." Brick smiled weakly. "I'm a very shy pooper."

So, haha, there are 400 pages alright, but it's a quick read and don't expect much from the story itself, but you'll probably like both MMCs and the book is connected to #Cold Hard Cash series, where I will definitely be headed in the near future, because I've read in the reviews that the books are basically porn, so yes, that's definitely what I want to read. 😄

I expected so much more but it was pretty enjoyable and the mcs are likeable, their sex was pretty hot, so this was a solid story.

Usually I get disturbed by the "daddy talk/play" but I somewhat like that part in this story.

Cash was excellent, a seriously fun read! Jules and Brick couldn’t have been from more different worlds but they just fit. Brick is lonely, tired of cooking for one. Jules has just moved in next door to Brick and a gangster. They had a fantastic connection and serious chemistry!Overall, I loved it!! Well written with catchy pacing that hooked me.

I would never have pegged Jules as a Daddy before reading this book, but his and Brick's romance unfolded like it was meant to be. I've always loved an outspoken boy who knows what he wants, and that's exactly what Brick gave me in this story. It was so much fun to listen to their flirty banter and see how it translated into incredibly steamy nights together. These two men had some fiery hot chemistry, and boy did I enjoy watching them come together over and over again. In addition to the romance, this book had a satisfyingly mysterious mafia suspense plot, packed with lots of chaos and moments where both Jules and Brick had to save the day. While I knew the element of danger was always real, it was more fun for me than anything to follow along and solve the puzzle, and I was really impressed by how smart and intuitive Brick was. All around I thought this was a highly entertaining read, with a couple that may have started out as strangers but ended up selling me on their deep feelings for each other.

Brick, half Korean, can cook spicy beef soup like a pro. Protecting his yard from psycho delivery drivers, which is how his new (sexy as heck) neighbor came to be eating said soup. Oh..and Jules is connected, very connected, alleged mob fixer. Let the addiction begin. “This infatuation was getting ridiculous. Brick blamed the wine. And Jules’s really thick eyelashes. And his marvelously thick arms. And his butt. Definitely his butt.“ “Then again, he’d never been with anyone who looked like the spawn of Bigfoot and Godzilla.”

Things get serious when someone tries to kill Brick. Which was a serious fail. “Oopsies.”“Oopsies? (Effin’) oopsies?” Brick barked at him, “What kind of (effin’) gangster says oopsies?”

I adored Brick. From his reactions to having his precious rainbow yard destroyed to having a dead man at the foot of his stairs is hilarious, (hence the oopsies). Jules is a tough guy who seems to melt for Brick.

This book as full of snark, blood, dead bad guys, a (unwilling) helpful cop, stitches, and so much daddy s&x. Really likable bad guys (good guys too). Some mystery to offset all the s&x kept me interested.

Great book. I really recommend it to anyone who wants a heavy dose of (not so bad) guys and a new daddy who really learns fast.

I’ll just leave you with Jules’ reasoning “I wanna make up for, you know… the oopsies.”

Daddy Jules!

I'm going to start by saying the crime aspects and storyline were my favorite part of this book. Like it had me tryna guess who the bad guy was and what was going to happen next and I was hooked.

The MCs themselves were also cool, Brick was confident and just so fun to read and I have been a Jules fan since the first Boss Cold book.

In saying that I didnt like how his gf was just kind of brushed off after he fought so hard to get her attention in earlier books and I also didnt like that the two MCs never say I love you to each other (this is just my own personal preference)

The sex scenes in this book was hot and there were ALOT of them.

The chemistry and relationship between the two MCs was easy and believable and like I said this book had an epic storyline.

I had fun reading this!

K.L. Hiers addition to this series was fan-effing-tastic. I enjoyed Jules and Brick's romance immensely. Their easy going friendship to lovers was great and all the other "criminalling" that went on made this addition entertaining. I wouldn't say this was very graphic, twisted or an intense mafia story but there were some very very HOT sexy times and some violence and if you read any of the Cold series, Jules do what Jules do...be "ruthless" when its time to be. He was a sweet and attentive Daddy to his baby boy Brick. I was a little surprise he had a bi awkening but not so much since it was with Brick. Can't help but love Brick and just picturing them together made me smile. Loved this story and was real satisfied with the ending...its a HEA but a realistic one. 5STARS!!!!

I adored this story so much! It was very much a case of perfect for me, I fell in love with Brock instantly and enjoyed getting to know Jules more too. The writing is wonderful, so many great moments and beautiful quotes that captured my heart.

While the romance and relationship is rather fast paced, these two were full of chemistry and passion - the sweet and spicy between them is lovely. The instant attraction, the love of Korean food and the wine - sharing time and getting to know a little about one another.

I was simply charmed by these two and when you add in the steam, these two have such a great connection and I enjoyed seeing them explore a relationship together. Bricks worrying and Jules honesty in his own way, the communication and finding understanding is done so well. Even when Brick is frustrated, his got the smarts and I loved him figuring out things on his own & being able to fight for himself too was incredible.

There is an interesting underlying plot mystery throughout too, involving the mafia background and I am always a fan of action scenes which there are plenty of amazing fight scenes here. The fighting way out, struggle, push and pull it hits all those incredible scenes so well.

Got to mention the drama they watch together, conversations with mum, translator job role, all of the cooking and a certain steamy kitchen scene which is 🔥 in all of the best ways. Also the flamingos and pride garden, the friends from the funeral parlour and mafia crew who can't help but adore. Oh and it was fun to get a little glimpse at Jimmy & Cold again too.

Overall I just had an amazing time with this read, it hit on a lot of favourite things for me and it leads to a happy ending for Brick & Jules, with hint towards how their future may be together 💛

CASH is part of the Ruthless Daddies series but is the first one I have read so, obviously, you don't have to have read the series to read this. Now, I really want to, though, as I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Brick was a brilliant character - Mr Normal compared to Jules being the Mob-man - but that doesn't mean he will take any attitude and, if you come at him, you'd better knock him out or he will finish the job. I loved how he Macgyvered his way out of things. No shrinking violet or damsel in distress, this one. Jules was besotted and caring, everything a Daddy should be. Their relationship was natural and smooth, and oh-so-caring.

The storyline with what was missing, the murders, the attempted murders, the threats - it all worked. I could follow along completely without having read any of the others. The secondary characters really helped to flesh this out, although I would have enjoyed Brick meeting Rowena!

All in all, this was a great read to a series I want to read more of! Definitely recommended if you want a sweet-as-candy story.

No rating DNF @ 10%. I think I’m just going to have to finally accept that this author is not for me. I’ve enjoyed a decent amount of books in this series, but have never been able to actually finish a book by this author. I am not sure what it is about their writing style but I just can’t get into it. I think part of the issue is the dialogue, and another is the storytelling style from third person. I usually don’t have too hard of a time switching back-and-forth between books written either in the first or third person. This one is written in third person but part of the writing almost feels a little choppy. I guess sometimes you always don’t have to have a supersolid reason not to like a book. I feel like the premise is OK I just don’t care for the authors writing style. If you do like this author then I would probably give this book a read.

Eek. I am in the minority here. It isn’t that I didn’t like it. Jules was a marshmallow Daddy mafia fixer and Brick was a delight. I found myself smiling a lot and the sexy times were steamy BUT I was super bored and this was way too long. I skimmed most of the last 30% or so and almost quit it a few times. And although the sexy times were hot, they seemed to go on and on. I also didn’t feel that the Daddy/boy dynamic was genuine. I had a hard time with it and it came off a bit sarcastic at times and I didn’t really feel a huge connection when in those roles.

Brick’s an average guy. Jules is a gangster. Allegedly. They should have nothing in common. And yet, the connection and chemistry between them blazes to life when they meet.

This book was just FUN. Serious gangster books are all fine and dandy, but when you can have one that makes you laugh out loud several times, I’m all about it. Jules is as irreverent as they come and I adore him. I have loved him since we met him in Cold Hard Cash. He is tough as nails and as gooey as a gummy bear inside. Brick was a wonderful match for him. Brick didn’t take any of Jules flack. He gave back just as good as he got and Jules knew he had met his perfect match. Ah these two? Whew. Burned up the sheets together. Jules makes for such a sweet Daddy. He was just so soft for Brick and I loved it.

We also get a whodunnit case that was intriguing and kept me guessing. This mystery brings us side characters Junior and Raz. Junior was an absolute riot. Some of his phrases are downright hilarious. Hiers knows how to write a character and she did not disappoint here. And our Jimmy and Boss Cold cameo? All the heart eyes. I will never get enough of those two.

This book was a blast. I had such an enjoyable time reading it and was still looking for more after the last word was read. Highly recommended.

Woof! Did Cash deliver, or what?!?! Over a year ago I was chatting with KL Heirs and she mentioned possibly featuring Jules in a book and I just could not wrap my head it. Jules was straight, and not once through the Cold Hard Cash series was the idea of him being anything inherent than straight was mentioned. Don't get me wrong, he was an amazing ally, but he was just that. After all, he had the Doc, and she was one heck of a lady. However, things have a way of just happening, and boy oh boy did it ever. Heirs managed to entertain us and flawlessly transition Jules down the Kinsey scale, so much so that it just felt right after reading. And then Jules came at us again showing us all his protective, possessive Daddy vibes and we melted just like Brick did. And Brick! Oh my I adore him. Also, he's my spirit animal now. From his quirky lawn decor to his house shoes to his chatting with his mama about the TV show they were watching together to his version of gun safety, he is just perfect for Jules. Heirs managed to create this steamy relationship all while weaving an amazing plot that keeps you on you toes the whole time!

Half Korean Cho “Brick” Brixton cooks, does work in his yard, binge-watches TV and is a proud gay man in his home town. Cooking for just himself and living on his own is lonely. Then hunk Jules Price moves next door and is there on business to retrieve something stolen from his criminal family. When he has free time he is set on getting close to Brick and exploring his first-ever attraction to another man. The romance heats up but so does the danger and Brick finds himself in the middle of a bloodbath but Jules will stop at nothing to keep him safe.

I enjoyed this story although I did find the speed of the switch to an attraction to a male by Jules a bit rapid which needed a little more explanation as was the ability of Jules to switch to the Daddy/boy relationship after just a couple of uses of the word Daddy by Brick. Certainly Brick was an excellent cook and I would have enjoyed an invitation to dinner with them. Lots of danger and drama in the story as the mystery of the stolen item as well as the attacks were investigated. Easy to read, feel and understand. This book contains mature MM content including a BSDM-like DDLB relationship.

This book is fun. Seriously fun. Don’t get me wrong, it’s lots of other things too– the plot is intriguing, with a mystery and some peril. There’s plenty of chemistry and heat– Brick and Jules clearly fit together well in pretty much every way– physically and emotionally. I love them together: Brick is amazing and perfectly himself, more than capable of holding his own and unwilling to let Jules get away with anything egregious. Jules is tough and competent and flippant and also kind of a sweetheart, or at least a softie, for Brick. Their dynamic is *chef’s kiss* exactly what you’d want for them, their banter is top notch. Points also for some delightful supporting characters (looking at you here, Junior and Raz). This book is connected to an existing series, and while you absolutely don’t need to have read it to enjoy this one, there are some lovely cameos in this one, and if you enjoy the style and substance of this book, definitely check out the rest of the Cold Hard world.

Having 2 hulking MCs is a nice change of pace. Brick meets Jules when the movers that Jules hired back into Brick’s pride yard destroying his rainbow flamingo. Jules offers to fix everything and they strike up a friendship.

Brick cooks for Jules as they get to know each other. Jules has never been with a man but is very interested in Brick. Brick knows Jules is only in town for a short while on business so he tries to head off any possible feelings he may develop for Jules. It doesn’t work. Brick’s house gets broken into TWICE, and his life is is danger all because of Jules mob ties. He still doesn’t care, Brick wants Jules to be his Daddy and Jules wants Brick to be his baby boy. Now they just need to figure out who has betrayed Jules, who wants him dead and, Jules still has a job to do.

Okay so this was not what I expected at all. I went in thinking something totally different but I was rightfully surprised but absolutely not disappointed. Cause omfg this was a wild ride. We had both big mc’s tho jules was ofc more beefy than brick. But brick was no twink. I loved brick so much. He is so strong. And also their dynamic everything was really great
One thing that I did not like was the fact Jules had some water of a girlfriend and it was bothering me even though they were in type of open relationship and then they did broke up. It was still a little no no.

Tropes
Neighbours two lovers
Mafia/gangsta
Daddy/boy dynamic
Bi/queer awakening
Rimming
Edging(it was so hot)

Top & bottom roles

Woof. Damn Daddy.

First of all have snacks while you read or you will be hungry. I looked up soooo much food I was drooling. Second, Who would have thought Jules would be a Daddy? Annnnnnndd a mashmellow, I love it!
Brick is absolutely adorable! This book full of steam and a fanatic story. One of my favorite parts about the book besides the steam is solving the mystery.
This book also put me in my feels, I just wanted to hug Jules and Brick.
K.L has proven once again why she is one of my favorite authors.
I absolutely loved seeing Boss Cold, Jimmy, Raz, and Junior make an appearance! Junior is my favorite side character.

Jules' HEA!!

Plot: Single POV (Brick’s), a couple of mysteries, some mobster hijinks, and a cute opposites/different worlds attract romance. I loved how the romance was at the forefront throughout.
Feels: Many awws for the cuteness of Jules becoming Daddy and laughs at Jules being undercover as ‘normal’
Drama: Only the expected kind on the periphery of the two mysteries
Heat: 4/5
Characters: Jules absolutely deserves such a cute, original, grounded, loyal, independent but submissive [in bed] 'boy' as Brick…oh and don’t forget “badass babe”! [If you’re not already a fan of Jules, go re/read Cold Hard Cash.] And, oh yes, we get a little Boss Cold and Jimmy surprise too
Pacing: Good, smooth flow
Length: Novel-size
Ending: HEA

Yes! I was extra excited when I saw this cuz I'm a huge fan of the Gentlemen series and I'm so, so glad Jules got his HEA. He is a cheerful badass and his calm yet affable acceptance of his attraction is perfect. I am not a foodie, but those who are will love the awesome introduction to some Korean dishes. I liked the funeral home side characters, which seem to be a feature in Hiers's novels, lol! A+ for good parent relationships, which are scarce in the genre. Yes, the book is long, you won't notice, trust me. This is the caring Dom Daddy kink, no age-play. There was plenty of steam on page, like the perfect amount, really, which is a lot. All of the side characters might get confusing for someone who hasn't read the Gentlemen, to which I would recommend you stop and immediately go and read Cold Hard Cash cuz it will definitely be worth it.

Brick lives a quiet life, but one that encompasses a few friends at the local morgue and a colourful front yard.
When mysterious Jules moves in next door, Brick can’t deny the excitement Jules brings into life.
The more time he spends with Jules the more he becomes embroiled in a world of mystery, danger, intrigue and mobsters.

This entertaining storyline is packed with an adventurous plot, well developed characters and a lovely HEA. I loved how the author wove so many of the previous characters into this book as well.
An enjoyable read for sure.

This has been on my Kindle for a while, sadly bogged down under all the newer stories and forgotten. Until now. After loving the Boss Cold stories I was happy to finally read it, as with the previous ones this story was utterly amazing, it's about 55% sexy mm romance and 45% dirty dealings, it is impossible to put down. Brick is a sweet but determined young man who's about meet his match. For a gangster Jules is a little bit playful, a little bit funny, and a whole lot sexy Daddy, that all aside from his "criminaling".

I think I had tried to read this awhile ago and couldn't get into it, but I guess I just had to be in the right mood. I've liked the other KL Hiers books I've read so far, especially Monstro, and this one was no different. I liked the back and forth between the two MCs and I really liked the mystery element to the plot. Still not sold on the weird NYC-style dialect that Jules and Junior had in this, but overall I loved the banter and the romance, albeit a rushed one. I'm going to try to read the series that this one branched off from next.
