MANOS: A Novel

Rate this book
A "re-imagining" of Harold P. Warren's infamous 1966 B-Movie, The Hands of Fate, with a foreword by the film's star Jackey Neyman Jones.

It's the summer of '69, and the Neyman family are hoping for a vacation. But when an unexpected twist leaves them stranded, Maggie, Mike, and Debbie are forced to stay at a cabin owned by a mysterious figure known only as "The Master" and kept by the strange caretaker Torgo. When Maggie uncovers a dark secret contained within the nearby woods, they'll be thrust into a world of unknown terror where the only ways out are either death... or submission to MANOS.

Don't let the description fool you....

This book may be an authorised retelling of the worst movie ever made but my mind is blown. I initially bought it as a way to support a local author. Well I also hoped to rub a trolls nose in it. Troll left a really rude comment that implied it wasn't worth reading on the book hangout FB group. I beg to differ. I am so glad I was proven right. This book kept me engrossed. It gave me goose bumps. It had several plot twists I definitely didn't see coming. I will definitely read this again I'm glad it was a purchase instead of a kindle unlimited find. Woohooo! Bill Hatfield You did good!

This shouldn't work. Manos: The Hands of Fate is one of the worst movies ever created, and a beloved MST3K and RiffTrax riff. Hatfield decided to not only do a novelization, but commit himself to making a good story out of it, and by God he did it. Every baffling decision in the movie is here, but they're now reworked to actually propel the story forward. Despite being faithful to the cursed source material, Hatfield's deviations are the best components, as he gives backstories and characterization to the cast, and creates a fantastic new ending. A great read for fans of b movies and msties alike.

I admit that my review may be a little bit biased, but I personally think that this is the greatest horror novel ever written.
