Admittedly, it was a moment of weakness on my part. But even the strong-willed have been known to fall for a hard body underneath a tailored suit and a five o’clock shadow coating a sharp jawline.
It didn’t matter that Jackson St. James was nothing but trouble. Trouble was just my type.
Been there. Done him. Not making that mistake again.
We were friends, a low-key affair we designed ourselves—over before we began. After all, together we made no sense.
Jackson is into sports. I prefer the arts. He gulps beer. I sip champagne. While I might not be described as humble, his arrogance is through the roof.
But when he asks if we can talk, my traitorous Louboutins come to a full stop. Although I’ve seen enough movies to know how these conversations go, maybe, just maybe, he’ll surprise me.
He has before . . .
We may have started with a kiss, but how will we end?
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, S.L. Scott, writes character driven, heart-racing suspense, and swoony romances that will leave you glued to the page. With stories ranging from witty beach reads to heart wrenching and heart healing, her stories are highly regarded as emotional, relatable, and captivating.
Her books are more than escapes for the voracious readers of today. They are journeys of the heart that always come with a happily ever after reward at the end.
”All it took was one kiss at the stroke of midnight, and a million strings attached.” Sometimes you need a book that’ll just leave your heart full and a smile on your face. Because in that book good things happened to good people, and you got to witness that. This is one of those cases. I loved them both, and I absolutely adored Jackson.
”I don’t think I’ve ever known how to love until he showed me.” Jackson was freaking everything. I can’t believe how supportive he is of Marlow, and everything she does. How he’s there for her every step of the way. How he wants to be the person she leans on. And I always love it when the hero falls first – which Jackson definitely did.
”My lover, My savior. She’s my heart and the soul that makes me feel alive again.” I loved how we can see what Marlow is thinking all the time, and her internal struggles. What she’s going through. How she thinks of Jackson as just someone who can help her forget her problems, until he becomes so much more than that. And how much she opens up to him. I loved her strength, I loved that she chases what she wants, and that she faces everything head on.
”Me: You’d help me pick another man to have sex with?” “Jackson: Fuck no. No other man is coming near you.” “Me: But you just offered.” “Jackson: Fuck that. Sexing you up is my job.” “Me: You’re hired. When can you start?” Jackson and Marlow have been friends for ages, but they've recently added some benefits to their relationship. Physically, they’re pretty perfect, but it’s clear to see from the get-go that he wants more. Maybe she does too, but she’s never been in love before. However, trust doesn’t come easy for her. He wants her so much it’s endearing, and he’s willing to fight for her. He’s committed to showing her how perfect they can be together, and he wins her over, bit after bit. As someone who doesn’t trust easily either, seeing their relationship develop was heartwarming and gave me all the feels!
”You read me like a book.” “Like a fairy tale.” “Thought you didn’t believe in those.” “Because of you, I’m starting to change my mind.” When Marlow has to leave her apartment, Jackson asks her to move in with him. That’s when you see how serious he is about her, and how much she’s falling too. She may not admit it fully, but they’ve moved on from just sex. Suddenly, and even though they have loads of chemistry, it’s also about just being together. Being close. Sharing the same space. And it’s like they can't be apart anymore.
”You won’t ever have a lack of shoulders to cry on. I have two reserved just for you.” In the meantime, Harlow is dealing with some family and money issues. Let’s just say her family is less than perfect and that she’s been hurt so many times already. I loved how her friends are there for her every step of the way. But Jackson… he gives her everything he has.
”She’ll never understand how I’d sell my soul to the devil if I could stay here, just like this, forever.” It was all so perfect I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, which just goes to show how invested I was in this book and in their story. There is some angst, but I don’t think SL Scott wanted to make this an angsty book – I think it was meant to be about love, about trusting and opening your heart to it, even though it means opening yourself up to heartache too.
”We grow stronger every day, entangling our lives so much that there’s no me or him. Only us.” This was a page-turner for me. Marlow was the girl who stopped believing in fairy tales because there was no way they could be real. There is no Prince Charming. But maybe she doesn't need one. Maybe she needs the Big Bad Wolf, who is not perfect but who can be perfect for her, and make her feel like she can do anything, and be anything she wants. And it all started with one kiss.
Quick note: this can be read as a standalone, but I need to go back and read the other books in the series. I'm sure it'll be even more enjoyable if you read their friends' stories.
This book is part of a series but can easily be read as a standalone – no cliffhangers here! Each book contains one couple’s story with a happy ever after. However, in order to get the full pleasure of the underlying friendships, I certainly recommend reading each one.
In a friends-with-benefits trope, Jackson S. James, the younger brother of Natalie St. James Christiansen (Never Got Over You – Book 1) gets his shot in the limelight this time along with Marlow Marche’ and, in my opinion, the best of all the others. Jackson is an extra-special kind of hero -- he does not disappoint.
It's impossible not to fall in love with both Jackson and Natalie. All the characters in these books are amazing but these two were phenomenal, their story amazing and the final stroke a work of art! Jackson and Marlow are sure to leave you with a smile on your face. Their love story is a treat to read – even in the bumpy times. A tender, steamy romantic love story guaranteed to hijack your heart in a colorful explosion of happy forever leaving readers smiling ear-to-ear.
Books in the New York Lovers Series Never Got Over You – 1/12/21 (Nick Christiansen/Natalie St. James) The One I Want – 5/10/21 (Andrew Christiansen/Juni Jacobs) Crazy In Love – 7/8/21 (Harrison Decker/Tatum Devreux Head Over Feels – 10/15/21 (Radcliffe “Rad”/Tealey Bell It Started With A Kiss – 6/8/22 (Jackson St. James/Marlow Marche’)
I needed this book! It was on my radar, and I had to read it as soon as it hit my kindle. No disappointment at all, all expectations were met. Lots of feels, laughs, and an occasional swoon, steam, and in the end, joy.
I love characters with layers, and both Marlow and Jackson have plenty. They have been friends for some time, recently they have added benefits. As their story sucks you in, and as you get below the surface layers your heart will get a workout.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Looking at the average rating of this book, I can see that people loved it. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it but for me it was just okay. I adored the hero Jackson who had his head on straight, worked hard, and had made something of himself. Yes he grew up in an affluent home, had the best education, but he also worked to amass his own fortune and is highly regarded in his field. That brings us to the heroine, Marlow Marche who up unitl recently has been living off her daddy's money. Ugh! Spoiled, self centered, and shocked when she's served an eviction notice when her father stopped paying her bills. Jackson and Marlow have been involved in a friends with benefits type relationship after years of running with the same crowd and not getting along, they f*cked it out and are still doing so. Jackson wants more but Marlow isn't sure and she's got a lot going on because she's now at almost 30 responsible for herself. I could go on but honestly I hate self centered socialites that don't have a clue about the real world. That said, Marlow did grow during this book and became a better, more rounded person, but that's because she had someone to help her land in a safe place, not everyone has that and while it was easy to say "oh look, she's made something of her life despite all her "hardships" just no", she wasn't out on the street she was living in a penthouse with her lover. Like I said she did improve but all the drama of not being loved by her mother, and spoiled by her father until she wasn't was just too much and the fact that Jackson had one "off" day where he didn't have time for her bullshit and she was hurt, just no. Okay I've said more than I intended so I'm out.
Spicy, Heartwarming, Frenemies to Secret Lovers to EVERYTHING!
Jackson St James--everyone thinks he's a playboy but in all honesty he's been a one woman guy for awhile now. But that one woman is pretty skittish. She's down for their late night hook ups but will she run if he pushes for more?
Marlow Marche--she presents a front of spoiled pampered princess. Larger than life. Always put together. Ahead of the trends. Never tied down. The life of the party. What no one sees is that her life is coming down around her ears and she has no idea what to do next. She has been working her tatas off to get her boss at the gallery to see what she is capable of. To present a wildly successful front. And is she ever going to get there?
Sadly it is NYE and all of that has started to implode. She's just been served with an eviction notice to her gorgeous apartment that her father was supposed to be paying for. Of course, she has discovered that he isn't quite as financially sound as she thought he was. It was all smoke and mirrors. And unfortunately, her paycheck isn't going to cover her current lifestyle. And she doesn't have long to find a solution to the mess she finds herself in.
But surprisingly, she finds a safe place to land. No strings. Jackson doesn't want to send her running. No labels. But boy, do they have chemistry.
It ends up saving them both in the end. Not without some bruises and bumps. After all, they didn't start off as completely friendly. But they've found their groove. Even when they fight, they manage to find their way back to the good stuff.
Shared circle of friends--Cammie, Cade, Tealey, & Rad. But being an SL Scott book, we also have the connection to Natalie (Jackson's sister) & Nick plus he and his brother, Andrew, do business, and are friends, with Jackson, plus Andrew's wife Juni as well as her friend Tatum and her man, and another one of the guys, Harrison. And of course, we can't forget the little cameo we get of Story and Cooper as well!!
I absolutely could not put this down until I finished it!! Which means I may have fallen asleep with my Kindle. This left my heart so happy!!
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I'm pretty disappointed since it was really boring for me. And also I got the feeling that this was the second book or something since it felt like I started reading it at the middle
Whenever Ms.Scott announces a new book i always get so happy! From the moment i reached the end of the synopsis i instantly started looking forward to this book! I couldn't wait to read it! I picked it up as soon as i could and got into this story so quickly. I really enjoyed It Started With A Kiss so very much!
Marlow and Jackson's journey pulled me in from the get go! These two are friends with benefits. As emotions come into the picture, i couldn't wait to see how everything would play out for them!
The chemistry between these two was off the charts and such blushworthy goodness! I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with both Marlow and Jackson. I really liked getting to see these two tackle things in their live and especially when it came to their feelings. I related to Marlow and i definitely fell for Jackson. They were wonderful together. I loved how they both had me feeling so much!
I so enjoyed what their friends brought to the story as well! I still can't get over how breathtakingly gorgeous that cover is!
With It Started With A Kiss, Ms.Scott has created such a great read that had me hooked! Definitely check this one out! I can't wait for more from her! ❤️💋
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
Jackson & Marlow have been friends for a cool minute, but lately they've leveled up to add some benefits to that friendship (they're so sexy together). They're complete opposites but you already know opposites attract so it was instantly apparent to this reader that they belong together, however, it's just not that easy. Jackson was a hero that I fell for instantly as he's the one who sees it first that they belong together, and he's going to do what it takes to make Marlow his. Marlow has some things going on with her family & life which definitely made her trust issues understandable but makes it harder for her to let Jackson in fully. Little by little, Jackson gets past any & all objections from Marlow as he shows her that he's going to have her back no matter what. I LOVED this story so much especially with our drool worthy, big hearted hero, the heat, and all the feels. Will he be able to get Marlow to take a chance on something great?! You know what to do to find out as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
It is when you go through the difficult times in life that you realize who you can count on and with the twist that Marlow’s life has taken, she is about to find that out. She is determined that no one will know what she is going through and isn’t looking for someone to come in and fix everything but having Jackson in her life is something that she begins to appreciate even more with each passing day.
Jackson wants so much more than the friends with benefits relationship that they have. He is going to show her with everything he says and does that she trust him with her heart and count on him to always be there for her.
Marlow is going through a lot and isn’t certain she is prepared for her evolving relationship with Jackson but he proves to be irresistible as he knows that they have always and will always belong together as they take us on an emotional and romantic journey.
It Started with a Kiss by SL Scott is part of the New York Love Stories series. It’s a friends to lovers story. Jackson and Marlow have been friends since college, part of the same crew. They have always been friends with benefits but secretly wanted more. Marlow’s life is in chaos, and Jackson is her knight in shining armor. They have a great connection, and care for each other deeply. It Started with a great kiss to make them see that they really wanted more. Jackson showed real care and concern for Marlow. He was everything she never knew she needed. They had a beautiful friendship which became a beautiful relationship. I enjoyed Jackson and his role in the story. I did not connect as well with Marlow. While I enjoyed the second half of the story, and Jackson, I did not feel the same towards Marlow. Overall it was an enjoyable story.
What a beautifully written romance with two wonderful character that are just made for each other. Jackson St James is perfect for Marlow in every way. He gives her time and all his attention as she tries to navigate her new normal. What started as a friends with benefits arrangement soon becomes so much more. Don’t expect lots of drama or heartache as this is very low on angst but high on understanding and grown up conversations. Sensible timelines and great friends. Just a lovely easy read that will warm your heart.
Jackson and Marlow are adorable and it’s so hard not to completely fall for Jackson. Their connection and relationship growth along with the connection they had makes this story so beautiful. It’s also Adorably sweet and swoon worthy read for sure! I haven’t read many of this trope and this is only my second read by SL Scott and each time I read one of her books I’m hooked.
Amazing story friends to lovers opposites attract romance. Marlow and Jackson had been sneaking around having sex no strings attached, but feelings start to grow. I love this friend group and all the other SL Scott characters showing up in this book in the New York series. So many feels in this one- Loved IT
I've been waiting for this story and it was worth the wait! Jackson and Marlowe are so perfect for each other. This story was such a breath of fresh air. It's low on the angst, but high on maturity and respect and friendship. It's heartwarming and and sweet and swoon-worthy. Definitely recommend!
This was my first SL Scott book so I hadn’t met any of the characters before but could tell they were from a series which made me want to go back and read the previous books in the series! This one can easily be read as a stand alone though and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I really liked both Marlow and Jackson’s characters, the banter and chemistry between them and the transition of their relationship from friends with benefits to so much more. A little bit of angst but they got their HEA and I really enjoyed the epilogues.
SL Scott never disappoints!! Her light hearted friends with benefits turned love story hooks you from the beginning. I love the strength and independence she has written for Marlow Marché. Throw in the hot and sexiness of Jackson St. james and you have a swoon worthy book that pulls at your emotions from start to finish. Pick up this 5 star read to kick off your summer!! Great job SL❤️
A heartwarming book as you can always expect from this author.
4,5 stars
It Started With A Kiss was adorably sweet. What started as "a sort of friends with benefits" deal developed into something way deeper and more meaningful than both Jackson and Marlow had anticipated.
On paper, they weren't supposed to work. Yet, they were surprisingly good for each other. Even if their timing was seemingly wrong, their feelings took the lead and showed them something incredibly beautiful could come out of their arrangement.
Jackson was patient, respectful, and steady. His growing love was unwavering, no matter what was thrown at him (if his own problems or even Marlow herself making things difficult for them). Marlow was a work in progress. Paying the price for having been cuddled her whole life and used to having everyone handle everything for her, she was determined to turn a new leaf and learn how to take care of herself.
I have to admit, despite this premise (I loved that she wanted to be independent), it took me quite some time to come around to liking Marlow. Yes, she was working on herself (and kudos for that), but she was also still a spoiled former rich girl. Jackson was one hell of a patient man to deal with her as masterfully as he did.
It was beautiful the way they learned how to trust each other. Their relationship was definitely a journey through growth and maturity, especially for Marlow. Their story was captivating.
5 FANTASTIC STARS!! Another fantastic story from this very talented author. Marlow and Jackson's story had all the feels with friendship and sexiness. This was just the book I needed to escape reality for a few hours. You must read this book.
This romance was already going on at the beginning of the book even though both Jackson and Marlow thought it was a friends with benefit situation. Or at least Marlow keeps telling herself. Everyone thought that Jackson St. James was a playboy and Marlow Marche is a pampered princess, which she was until she found out that her father has been hiding his financial difficulties from her and then pull the rung from under her.
Jackson feels that he is in love with Marlow as they got to know each other through their agreement to be friends with benefits, even though he wants more than that. They have been friends for a long time and Jackson realizes that he knows Marlow better than she knows herself when it comes to feelings.
Marlow has so many problems that she is dealing with but she won't confide in her group of friends because she didn't want to make her friends feel sorry for her. Her father went bankrupt and only let her know at the last minute. Then she finds out that the apartment he had purchased for her really wasn't purchased at all and she only has so many days to pay up or she will be evicted. The eviction notice was served on her on New Year's Eve!
Marlow pretends that her life is fine until it comes crashing down on her and Jackson is there to help her, even though he never knew the seriousness of her situation until he was at her apartment with her and saw the eviction notice. He talks to Marlow and asks her to move in with him until she can get things figured out with her finances and her work. Marlow agrees to it and Jackson is very excited to have Marlow with him. The sexual chemistry between the two of them is off the charts!
Marlow is afraid of having a real relationship but Jackson is so convincing that she gives it a try and starts to open more to Jackson about her personal life and her childhood. Things are going great between the two until tragedy strikes and Marlow has to fly back to LA since her father had a heart attack and the doctors weren't sure he would make it. Even though Marlow was mad at her father, she still wants his love and the potential tragedy brought the two closer together. Once Jackson finds out what happens, he flies to LA to be with Marlow and to support her during this emotional time. They admit their love and she even introduces him to her father as her boyfriend!
Even though they admit their love, Marlow feels that she needs to stay in LA to take care of her father until he recuperates. Jackson understands that Marlow has to do this but he doesn't know what her long term plans are and if she will go back to NYC to be with him and her friends. He wonders if their love will bring her back.
Lots of love and emotional support in this book and the two main characters are being adult and mature enough about life and love.
This friends to lovers story has been in the making a while. I first read about Marlow and Jackson in Head Over Feels, which is Tealey and Rad’s story. At that time, Marlow was hard to like, but I warmed up to her by the end and was curious to find out all about how Jackson and Marlow had been secretly meeting up a time or two.
My first draw to this book was, of course, the fact that is part of an interconnected series, The New York Love Stories. I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed each of those books and I love returning the worlds where I’ve previously been. I love seeing cameos of those other characters and being reminded of those feelings that pulled at my heartstrings and brought me tears. Author S.L. Scott has not disappointed and she has done a phenomenal job creating and emotional and captivating romance between Jackson and Marlow in It Started With a Kiss.
You can’t help but love Jackson St. James. He is the real deal—caring, compassionate, sympathetic, loving, loyal, and committed—just to name a few of his amazing characteristics. Turns out he is also a savior and the knight in shining armor that Marlow needs in her corner. When this story began, I didn’t love Marlow, I did remember that from the previous book, but I was willing to give her a chance. Finding out all of her struggles and watching their relationship grow as he helped her navigate everything, really brought me to the point of loving her and especially loving the two of them together.
As Marlow world is crumbling down around her, Jackson is there to cheer her on, pick her up, and be the rock she needs to stand beside her. She takes her time to trust in everything he is willing to offer, but the journey there is a monumental story, you might even say one that fairy tales are made of. This Friends with Benefits, Friends to Lovers romance had so many feels to it, I can barely explain them or do the book justice with a review. It is one you just have to read to fully comprehend and enjoy.
I loved it so much that I plan to listen to the audio book to fall more in love with these characters. Sebastian York is a fan favorite narrator for sure and although I’m not sure if I’ve ever listened to Summer Morton before, I’m excited to give this one a listen.
Where do I even begin to praise this fantastic new release from Ms. Scott? It is becoming increasingly difficult to do her work justice. And, not being a writer myself, I am permanently at a loss for words ...
Marlow and Jackson's story brought me so many heartfelt and deep emotions, so much joy. It only took a few pages, and I was captivated by their story and totally in love with both characters. Both protagonists seemed so lifelike and authentic, their feelings so relatable ... Who doesn't know the vulnerability of opening their heart to a new partner? The desire to trust the other and yet guard one's heart in case it doesn't work out?
That's how Marlow and Jackson begin their new relationship, turning their friends-with-benefits relationship into something more meaningful, something real ...
I felt Marlow's struggle to let her guard down after having been disappointed and let down so many times in her life. I loved her seeming brokenness after fate threw her curveball after curveball, and how she grew from it and realized she was stronger than she thought. It all makes her so real and authentic.
I loved how supportive Jackson was from the beginning and how committed he was to making this new relationship work, even though Marlow wasn't on the same page due to her life falling apart ... I adored his easy-going personality, his willingness to help and support Marlow in any way he could, even though he had enough to deal with himself ...
Their love and the joy they felt over their blossoming relationship was almost palpable, as were their struggles and fear of losing their newfound connection ...
It Started With A Kiss is a deeply emotional read that had me laughing out loud several times and brought me to tears. It's another page-turner par excellence from this exceptional author, a book I absolutely recommend.
Jackson St. James is finally getting his story! I have been wanting Jackson's story since I was first introduced to him in the very first book in S.L. Scott's New York Love Stories series- Never Got Over You (which also happens to be his sister's book).
Jackson St. James has come a long way since his early days. Gone are the playboy bachelor ways and in place there is the incredibly loyal, loving and swoony boyfriend material that gave me all the feels in his relationship with Marlow. Marlow Marche's life is imploding around her and she doesn't know what to do- she's too strong willed and stubborn to ask for the help she needs. Lucky for her, Jackson is a take charge kind of guy and he has some feelings when it comes to her. They may have started as friends/frenemies with benefits but it is clear from the start that they were meant for so much more.
This story has a bit of it all- the moments and conversations between these two is filled with wit and humor but also so much sweetness and heart. Emotions and feelings may not have been a part of their original agreement but the chemistry is so perfect between these two I hated for the the inevitable blip in their relationship to happen. The place where they never faltered was with the incredible heat and want between them.
Jackson might be pretty close to perfect in this story- with an exception or two of poor choices. He is just so charming, goofy and caring that you can't help but fall in love with him too. I really loved Marlow's growth over the course of the story. Marlow not only learned how to love and what those emotions look like for her but she also learned to accept the love Jackson had for her. He cared for her through her struggles and helped give her the confidence to save herself from her troubles but ultimately she did the work and made the choices to her own happiness.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
It started with a kiss. Admittedly it was a moment of weakness on my part. But even the strong-willed have been known to fall of the hard body underneath a tailored suit and a five o'clock shadow coating a sharp jawline. It didn't matter that Jackson St. James was nothing but trouble. Trouble was just my type. Been there. Done him. Not making that mistake again. We were friends, a low-key affair we designed ourselves-over before we began. After all, together we made no sense. Jackson is into sports, i prefer the arts. He gulps beer. I sip champagne. While I might not be described as humble, his arrogance is through the roof. But when he asks if we can talk, my traitorous Louboutin's come to a full stop. Although I've seen enough movies to know how these conversations go, maybe, just maybe, he'll surprise me. He has before. We may have started with a kiss, but how will we end?
Jackson and Marlow on paper are never going to be a couple that works. They are very different but have a friendship that turned into a sort of friends with benefits situation. These two are so good for each other. They just might be on the path to something life changing and amazing. I really loved Jackson. He was kind a patient and when his feelings started to grow it never wavered. He was super respectful. Marlow had some growing to do and has basically been coddled her entire life. She has never really had to do much for herself as someone else has always handled everything she needed taken care of. She is however determined to learn how to take care of herself. Jackson might just be the perfect man to do that and you have to read to find out what happens. It was a really sweet love story that I enjoyed reading.
*** I received an advanced copy and chose to review it *** ** 100% spoiler-free review ** * 5 unforgettable stars *
Oh my word friends, get ready to swoon, laugh, cry and experience all the feels with S.L. Scott's newest story, It Started with a Kiss. This book will make you feel EVERYTHING! Ms. Scott wrote an epic story for Marlow and Jackson and I'm still not over it! This book can be read as a complete standalone but it does give some minor spoilers for several of her previous books.
Marlow Marche is a complex character. Her privileged past has shaped who she is and the walls she's built around herself are difficult to penetrate. She has an uphill climb to dig herself out of a difficult spot but she's lucky to have her best friend Jackson St. James by her side through it all. Jackson is all sorts of swoony. I'm talking sweep you off of your feet levels of swoon. He's successful, driven and extremely supportive. He loves his friends and family fiercely and that includes Marlow. What starts out as a friends-with-benefits agreement turns into something way more than either of these two ever expected. Their chemistry is intense and these two spark flames just by looking at one another. With several roadblocks and secrets getting in the way, these two have to really fight for one another.
S.L. Scott's words really are pure magic. She is a master storyteller who knows exactly how to hook the reader and have them invested in the story from the start. It Started with a Kiss will completely blow you away with its raw beauty. It'll make you feel so much from happiness to sadness and everything in between. This is the kind of story that stays with you long after you've read the last page. Dive in and don't miss this stunning read! 5 stars
This is another story in the New York Love Series featuring a close knit group of friends. We have met Marlow and Jackson before in the previous stories but in It Started with a Kiss they are front and centre and we find out what they have really been up to all along!
I can't say that I have been a big fan of Marlow in the previous books but as we learn her true situation in this story it is hard not to feel sympathy for her difficulties. She has never lacked for material things thanks to her parents but she has grown up never receiving the love and support from them that she needed. Now as an adult she finds it hard to trust anyone enough to fall in love with them and even though she is tempted with her close friend Jackson, their friends with benefits relationship is enough for now. That's until the passionate kiss they share on New Year's Eve.
Jackson has always had a reputation as a playboy but falling for Marlow has brought about a big change in him. He becomes the perfect boyfriend who wants to protect and take care of her. When Marlow has a huge downturn in her fortunes thanks to her father and has to leave her apartment, Jackson is there to offer her somewhere to stay. Yeah it gets really hot and steamy under that roof!
These two together have a special magic that was bound to lead to a lot more if only life did not continually get in their way. Marlow's rich and spoiled girl days are over and she has to learn to stand on her own two feet, which is not easy considering the heap of problems she has to wade through but Jackson is always there by her side. Jackson is the ultimate romantic supporting her while she learns to navigate life without her dad's money (and yeah it broke my heart when she started selling her designer bags!).
This is another story from Ms Scott that I loved from beginning to end. The relationship between Marlow and Jackson was was mostly sweet and realistic, but sad in parts as Marlow had to deal with the most thoughtless self centred parents ever. It was great that with the help of Jackson and her friends she was able to rise above the pain they had put her through and achieve her dreams both in love and her career. Big cheers for Marlow!
“All it took was one kiss at the stroke of midnight, and a million strings attached.”
It Started With A Kiss by S.L. Scott, was written beautifully. The witty banter between characters will have you laughing out loud. I loved visiting with the gang… Cammie, Cade, Tealey, Natalie, and Nick, plus some other favorites.
Jackson St. James is swoon-worthy! He is sexy, masculine, and all kinds of hotness! With his sinful look, he will melt your panties. Jackson is successful and dedicated to his family and friends. There is nothing he would not do for them. The perfect man!
Marlow Marche is a beautiful, sophisticated young woman. She comes from wealth, Marlow’s father would shower her with lavish gifts. Her life has taken a turn that has left her shaken, she is trying to figure out what her future looks like.
What starts as friends with benefits arrangement turns into so much more, that neither saw coming. Their chemistry is undeniable, sparks fly when they are together, and the sex is explosive! But unfortunately for Jackson and Marlow things cannot always be hearts and flowers. Life and secrets seem to get in their way and complicated matters. Jackson wants to be Marlow’s knight and shining armor, she has to learn to stand on her own two feet. Jackson will do what he can to prove his undying love for Marlow, she is the woman he wants in his life forever. Poor Jackson had his work cut out for him. Two complete opposites, Jackson is into sports, and Marlow prefers the arts. Can they overcome the odds that are stacked up against them? Is a happily ever after in the cards for them?
"Thank you for making me understand what acceptance feels like for the first time." First, I want to say that I not only loved Marlow Marché and Jackson St. James, but I love these character names! I think they might be my favorites! Marlow and Jackson have been part of the same friend group since college but more recently have a friends with benefits type of agreement established. Things seem to be fine and working for them until they kiss on New Year's Eve. That kiss changes everything as deeper feelings start to develop. This was an absolutely amazing read!
I really appreciated the layers these characters had. You understand their surface behaviors, but then you also understand their core fears and concerns. They are both very self-aware as neither one believes they are good at relationships or worth having one given their own backstories. Marlow doesn't trust anyone and relies on herself to save herself from her current situation. Leaning on someone does not come easy for her. "I'm dramatic and over the top, and sometimes self-absorbed." Jackson wanted to be there for Marlow in any capacity but knew that she was her own worst enemy. He was patient and kind; hoping Marlow would one day realize she was worthy of love and acceptance.
This book was wonderful in that there weren't external factors or forces trying to keep them apart or break them up, but rather their own internal battles and overcoming their own doubt and perceived flaws. Although this can be read as a standalone, I will be going back to read a few of the friends I have yet to of S.L. Scott!
I loved reading Jackson and Marlow’s story! From the previous book we got hints about their friendship so I really wanted to know how their relationship was going to evolve. They were friends since college and Jackson always felt attracted to her but they never acted on their attraction until a few years later. Now all of their friends were in committed relationships and what started as friends with benefits ended up being so much more for them.
Jackson was wonderful, he had an amazing relationship with his family and I loved how he was always there for Marlow and how he tried to support her whenever she was struggling with something. He knew everything she was going through so he tried to be patient but still he was very honest with her about what he wanted and despite her trust issues I loved how she trusted him and how little by little she started admitting her true feelings for him. Besides their chemistry was great from the beginning and their steamy scenes were definitely the best.
They also had an amazing group of friends and I loved reading all of their interactions, their banter and how they always had each other’s backs. Besides we get to read about the characters from the previous books and how they all interacted with each other.
It was a really good story and I loved how everything worked out between Jackson and Marlow, they had some ups and downs but at the end their love was stronger than ever and they finally accepted they were meant to be.
Loved Jackson and Marlow's story! I was immediately hooked on this book within the first few pages. Their story was beautifully written & heartfelt. I loved how fiercely loyal and supportive Jackson was as things fell apart for Marlow. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. Many lol moments throughout this book and I did shed a few tears as well. Another great book from the fab. S.L Scott!
