A reaper who can raise the dead? Being a grim is never easy, but when Chloe helps Killion investigate a sinister plot involving ancient black magic, she discovers she’s not who she thought she was…and she can now raise the dead. A humorous paranormal urban fantasy series with a slow burn vampire romance! For fans of Sookie Stackhouse, The Vampire Diaries, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
★★★★★ “…engaging, funny and adventurous, I loved it.” ~ Goodreads review
When it comes to reaping souls, I’m a natural, but I’m two weeks overdue on a wily shifter who’s robbing folks of Christmas gifts, along with their holiday cheer.
Killion, the local master vampire and my partner, is no help. He requests—okay, demands—I do him a “favor” and investigate an odd hybrid creature he believes was animated with ancient, dark magic.
This off-the-books undertaking puts me on the naughty list with my boss, Death, but worse, I end up cursed by the same magic and am now able to raise the dead.
Sort of.
What’s a grim to do when she raises a soul as fast as she reaps it? Death is playing reaper’s keepers, and if I don’t fix this, my soul will be next.
USA TODAY Bestselling Author Misty Evans is celebrating her 100th published novel in 2025. She loves writing urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and mystery/suspense. Under her pen name, Nyx Halliwell, she also writes supernatural cozy mysteries.
When not reading or writing (which is most of the time), she enjoys music, movies, and hanging out with her husband, twin sons, and three spoiled rescue dogs. She’s a crafter at heart and has far too many projects to finish.
Chloe Frost's life was already complicated enough with her multiple jobs, going to school and then becoming a Reaper. Now after helping her Vampire mentor with a job involves dark magic and ancient Gods that goes wrong she adds necromancer to her already full life.
Things got so much more intriguing in this book. We find out more about Chloe's past and just as shocked as she is with the revelations and that she even has a past with Death.
She also picks up some new acquaintances - some of the pet variety and some of the human supernatural variety.
I'm loving this series and all the characters. Such a great blend of supernatural, humor and large cast of characters. Cant wait till the next book.
I skipped the majority of this book. 🤷🏻♀️ I’m just not a fan of the "special" snowflake FMC, and the writing is simply average. It’s a pass; I will not continue the series. That said, I wouldn’t discourage anyone from picking the series up. The world continues to have potential.
This was another good read. Chloe is getting into her role asa grim but still bargaining to save lives. New characters are added in this book including new villains. Million faces the ultimate betrayal from an unexpected source and you’ll be on pins 📌 and needles 🪡 until the outcome of that arc. Overall this was a better read than book one. Ghost and Corvus are awesome, along with Andy in both forms 😁😁
For me this series got less interesting with each book and more boring🥱. I found myself skipping over large portions to the action and then just glancing over the action and moving on.
Chloe has become pretty good at reaping souls, still she is late on reaping one particular shifter. Then, she gets pulled away by Killion who's the local master vampire. He needs her help investigating a hybrid creature that was evidently animated with dark magic. But what's Chloe to do when the magic hits her and leaves her suddenly able to raise animals from the dead?
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest, unbiased review. This is the second book in a new series, and it was an excellent read. The book's well-written with well-rounded characters whom you'll enjoy getting to know. Both those who carry over from the first book and those who are new really add to the story. There's humor, intrigue, and suspense as well as a hint of romance in this book making it a magical and captivating story. I'm very eager for the next book as this series promises to be outstanding. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order. Yes, each book could be read as a stand-alone, but you get the most out of things by reading them in order.
Grim Reapers are my favorite and I will always pick up a book that features one!
Chloe has now been a Grim for a couple months and is finally on winter break from school. So her plate should have some space on it, or one would think. But then life hits her and suddenly she finds herself deeply embroiled in a mystery that puts Killion in danger and Death acts more cagey than normal. I enjoyed the addition of the Egyptian gods and the references to the Book of the Dead. Its always fun when other aspects are merged into the normal urban fantasy setting.
I love Chloe and Killion as a possible romance match but I would not be against seeing Chloe and Death explore a little too. Both could be good matches for her and would be interesting storylines regardless.
While I loved the first book in this series "Grim and Bare It" this second book takes it to a whole new level and you are totally drawn into the world that Misty is creating
Chloe may have become a reaper by accident but she is finally getting the hang of her job until she is called away to perform a job for Killian the who so dark and gorgeous vampire she has to reap a shifter that was overtaken by a magical force the only problem is she now as an ability to reanimate things. All this is going on with death breathing down her neck wanting her to get on with the job of reaping souls for him. With the perfect mix of humour suspense and drama this is a book that will keep you totally engaged until the last page
Another winner! This is a clever and fun story that kept surprising me. I was totally engaged in the story and found myself turning pages just as quickly as possible. Chloe is an accidental reaper, however, this book tells us a great deal more of her story. Killian is a sexy vampire that Chloe is smitten with, which leads to all kinds of problems for her.
Fans of the genre will love this book and will want to put it at the top of their TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
Repear's Keepers is the 2nd book in the seriess the Accidential Reaper by Misty Evans, in which Chloe is learning more about herself. Death is driving her crazy along with Killian and Chloe makes some new friends along the way especially when finds out she can rasie the dead!!!
This book was great with lots of informtion about Chloe's past and it came full circle has to why she is a reaper! No accident here! Lots of heartache and laughs! How a writer can come up with this story is beyond me but keep it up.
Cloe gets herself in trouble again. When Killion asks Cloe for a favor, neither of them knew what it would unleash. One of Killion's followers has been attacked by a strange creature and when Cloe touches it, it reanimates. What?! What did she do? This is new. In the meantime, she is supposed to reap a shifter's soul and he is a little slippery. When she does find him, she tries to find a loophole. Death is breathing down her neck to get things done, or else. What to do?
Reaper's Keepers (The Accidental Reaper Paranormal Urban Fantasy Series number two) by Misty Evans is the second book in this series. This book picks up a few months after the first book ended. Chloe and Killion are still working together. Chloe is turning out to be a pretty good Grim. She accidentally picks up a new power - reanimation. She also gets into some trouble with her boss - Death. Great book. Its a fun, smooth read.
Twists and turns galore! I was reading it with my mouth open on several occasions LOL. I loved it even more than book 1. Very well written and very suspenseful. A page-turner for sure!
Oh, Wow! Misty Evan's is so amazing. Reaper's Keepers, the 2nd Accidental Reaper Paranormal Urban Fantasy, is fantastic! I can't imagine how an author can build a whole world with rules and reasons and make it all feel realistic. As much as I loved Grim and Bare It, the first book in the series, I fell even harder and faster for Reaper's. There is a whole group of wonderful characters including two new ones to love, constant action, a tingle of romance, and enough humor, to help balance the tough stuff. I can't wait for the next book in the series but I sincerely appreciate that these books do not have cliff-hanger ending. So far each book can act as a standalone but I can't imagine why anyone would want to read only one. As I almost always do, I requested an ARC of Reaper's Keepers because I can't stand the wait, but I have also preordered a personal copy because I loved it so much. I know even before requesting an ARC of one of Misty Evans's books that I am going to love it, and so far I have been right every time.
If you enjoyed the first book of this series, then you are going to love this one! New twists and turns keep coming hard and fast. The imagination of Misty Evans never ceases to amaze me. She has created a story that will allow you to immerse yourself into the story as if you are actually there.
There’s something for everyone in this book. It has action, adventure, plot twists and turns, romance, and many more surprises. This is a book that I will put in my “to be read again” file. The characters are complex and that makes them feel more like “weird” friends than like characters in a book. This author is masterful at creating believable characters in a magical setting. I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for something new, exciting, and very different. Be prepared for not getting anything accomplished once you start reading, though. It’s a “Can’t put it down until I’m done!” book. I am looking forward to so much more of this series. Happy reading!
This is the second book in this series. It doesn’t pick up right after the last book. It starts off a couple of months later-around Christmas time. This is a really good paranormal story. I love the main character Chloe. She has such a big heart even though she is a Grim. There is some very interesting twists in this one and you learn some secrets from Chloes’s past. It was hard to put down once I started. I’m looking forward to the next one
I can’t get enough of this series! It’s so good. The characters leap off the pages. It has it all. Mystery, humor, action and characters with so much heart. Oh and the smolder is everything. I’m hooked. It’s a new favorite!
Oh and the twist…hot diggity I love the back story that is revealed. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
