El complemento ideal para los fans de los Bridgerton, en el que la historiadora nos explica con detalle cómo era la época en la que se ambienta la saga.
📚ARGUMENTO: A través de siete temas, Curzon nos hace una panorámica de toda la regencia y periodo georgino, pasando por la moda y el contraste entre la reina Carlota y las nuevas tendencias con tejidos sueltos y corte imperio; la clase y la alta sociedad, donde era muy complicado cambiar de estrato si no era por un matrimonio provechoso; higiene y salud, con remedios naturales un tanto cuestionables; las relaciones personales, con grandes injusticias entre géneros; y varios temas más de igual interés.
📚ESTILO Y AMBIENTACIÓN: Catherine hace un gran trabajo al acercarnos de manera muy sencilla y amena todo lo relacionado con la época. El ibro está dividido en siete temas y estos a su vez cuentan con diferente secciones. Al final nos encontramos con un apéndice con remedios naturales muy interesante.

An interesting and fast read about the real Regency era. Definitely didn’t go too in depth and it focused on the aspects of Regency life seen in Bridgerton, so it gave some context to the societal aspects unpacked in the book.

What a wonderful trip back in time to the Regency era and the time of Bridgerton.
I found this little look "behind the scenes" completely charming and fascinating.
Covering topics, important of the time, such as class, health and hygiene, fashion and the all important social occasions and love and marriage this really does give us a comprehensive view into the lives of the time.
When we read Austen novels and watch all the period dramas, there's a huge emphasis on the romantic side of things - the parties, the affairs, the drama - but in reality, it sounds like life in this era was hard work.
For the ladies, having to learn how to present themselves, socialise, come out and impress only to be married off and take control of their husband's house and produce an heir for him - but not ever to know or do too much. It sounds like an awful lot of effort! Not quite my image of having all day to sit and read my books 🤣
Whether you're a fan of Bridgerton or not, this book is packed with information and interesting facts which you're sure to love. An absolute pleasure to read.

J’ai trouvé ce livre très accessible et agréable, aussi bien dans sa forme que dans son contenu. Catherine Curzon y décrypte avec clarté la société anglaise du temps de la Régence : les codes sociaux, les usages, les attentes… tout est bien expliqué, parfois illustré par des références à la série « La chronique des Bridgerton », ce qui rend la lecture encore plus parlante pour les fans du genre !
L’ouvrage est bien structuré, chaque chapitre étant consacré à un thème précis :
1. La classe sociale et la haute société
2. La mode
3. Les transports
4. Les événements mondains
5. Les médias
6. La santé et l’hygiène
7. Les amours et le mariage
En tant que lectrice régulière de romances historiques, certaines informations m’étaient déjà familières, souvent comprises par déduction. Mais d’autres points restaient flous, voire mystérieux. Grâce à ce livre, j’ai enfin trouvé les réponses à de nombreuses questions que je me posais.
J’ai appris beaucoup de choses, ou éclairci certains points que je soupçonnais sans en être certaine. Mon seul regret ? Qu’il n’aille pas encore plus loin ! J’aurais adoré qu’il soit plus étoffé tant le sujet est passionnant ! 😍
Bref, je suis ravie de ma lecture ! Si vous aimez la période de la Régence, que vous êtes curieux.se de son fonctionnement ou tout simplement fan de « La chronique des Bridgerton », je vous recommande chaudement ce livre ! 😊

Je remercie vivement les éditions Hachette pour l'envoi de ce magnifique ouvrage ! Après avoir été à la découverte de l'encyclopédie visuelle de Jane Austen il y a quelques mois je renouvelle l'expérience avec ce livre qui a attiré ma curiosité car soyons francs, le livre objet est sublime. J'avais donc plus que hâte de découvrir son contenu.
Orgueil & Potins est là pour TOUT vous apprendre sur l'époque de la Régence où se déroule la série Bridgerton mais qui couvre aussi la période du préquel, Queen Charlotte. Officiellement de 1811 à 1820, c'est aussi la période où Jane Austen a publié la majorité de ses romans que l'on connaît tous aujourd'hui.
Nul doute que cette période de l'Histoire peut être un mystère ou juste complexe quand on est un novice ou ne lisant tout simplement peu de romans de cette époque et justement cet ouvrage est là pour vous donner les principales clés de la Régence et devenir incollable sur le sujet !
En soit, j'ai trouvé le livre bien construit. Après une chronologie et une introduction, on a 7 chapitres distincts afin de couvrir au mieux cette époque :
- La classe sociale et la haute société
- La mode
- Les moyens de transports
- Les événements mondains
- Les médias
- La santé et l'hygiène
- Les amours et le mariage
Au delà de toutes les informations que le livre propose, on a aussi énormément d'illustrations ici et là de notre avancée et au début de chaque chapitre et partie, rendant la lecture très agréable et beaucoup plus visuelle.
Si personnellement, je n'ai pas appris grand chose, lisant beaucoup de romans se déroulant à cette époque, vous aimerez surement découvrir qui était Beau Brummell, la vraie condition des personnes noires, la tenue des dames et ces messieurs, Almack's ou la réalité de l'hygiène !
L'éventail de sujets traités est large autour de la vie mondaine, du paraître et tout le protocole qui tourne autour. Le mariage bien entendu qui est aussi le point central de chaque Saison et dans chaque saison de Bridgerton mais j'ai particulièrement aimé le fait d'avoir des informations sur leur vie quotidienne, ce qu'on voit pas souvent dans ce genre d'ouvrage et toujours bon pour notre culture personnelle. Gros point positif !
Le livre en lui-même est superbe avec sa couverture épaisse et ses dorures, imprimé sur du papier épais avec de nombreuses illustrations en couleur, tout y est pour nous offrir un ouvrage qualitatif, qui rendra très bien dans ma bibliothèque et peut faire ainsi un superbe cadeau à tous les curieux de cette époque !
J'ai pris plaisir à feuilleter le livre et le découvrir et nul doute qu'il fera des heureux surtout si vous adorez les Bridgerton et que vous désirez en apprendre plus.

Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di un'altra bellissima novità arrivata nelle nostre librerie.
Come sapete sono una grande amante del genere, quindi potevo mai farmelo scappare? Assolutamente no.
Quante volte ho gridato di gioia dinanzi a un romanzo storico? Quante volte anche voi avrete sospirato: oh, come vorrei vivere in quell'epoca!? Sbagliatissimo come non maiiii! E questo libro ce lo fa proprio capire.
Belle le rose e i fiori, l'amore a prima vista, il corteggiamento, per carità tutto stupendo e romantico... ma ci ricordiamo noi donne a che livello stavamo? Non in quello delle serie tv. Ci ricordiamo l'igiene? Eeehw.
Nel romanzo ci viene presentato un meraviglioso viaggio nell'epoca Regency, con precisione agli anni ambientati in Bridgerton.
E appunto ci vengono narrate cose importanti che nella serie ovviamente non vengono ricordate: la classe, la salute, l'igiene, la moda, il matrimonio e cosi via. E ricordiamoci anche, cosa sottolineata, quanto le donne dovessero saper fare tanto, essere intelligenti ma non troppo. Miei Dei.
Insomma, questa è una guida che non ci si può fare scappare, fan di Bridgerton o meno.

I knew from Bridgerton that they loved their gossip but it's fully laid out in here! I was mesmerised by their way of life!
I thought I would love to live in these times, I imagined sitting round reading but their days were actually packed, peacocking around and being a woman was perilous....not for an introvert like me it seems!
Anyway, I'm off to promenade and hopefully not get any miasmas!!! IYKYK!

I love the Bridgerton series both book and Netflix adaptation. I’m also a huge historical fiction fan so I was super excited to read this and find out about all the things that made the Regency era tick. The health chapter had me squirming, some of their methods seem so awful when we compare it to todays medicine, like blood letting??? No thank you! I especially loved reading all about the social hierarchy as I found it so fascinating how it worked and how money came into it. I’m not sure i’d have faired well in 1800s England!

An enjoyable and easy to read non fiction, a perfect companion to those of us who love to read and watch pieces set in the regency era. Lots of pop culture references throughout, contextualising what we see on screen.
Wish the medical chapter was longer it was fascinating, really enjoyed the fashion chapters too.
If you already are quite aware of the history of the time this probably isn't one for you, but for anyone else this is a fun and informative read.

A witty and engaging guide to the Regency, Bridgerton style. Author Catherine Curzon has a way of making all that she writes feel as though you're sharing a good gossip session with her over tea and biscuits. I particularly like how she includes references to the show, using specific episodes to add weight to her words. A must-read for all Bridgerton fans

As a woman, my life would have been nearly unbearably (for modern woman me) circumscribed if my family had means.
A nice overview with lots of helpful citations for reference, this book contains information to help me when watching the next Defence dtama.

C’était un livre intéressant, tout en légèreté, qui comprenait des fun facts sur l’époque de la régence. Le livre survolé tous les domaines, mais il ne rentrait jamais vraiment en profondeur. Donc à la fin de votre lecture, vous avez plein de fun facts sur l’époque. Après, il était inutile de rentrer trop dans les détails pour se rendre compte que les femmes n’était pas avantagé durant cette époque. Ce livre permet de ne pas romantiser l’époque de la régence et d’avoir une vision plus réelle que celle qui est montrée à travers les séries et les films 🍿

This book was so wonderful and I had such a good time reading this book.
If you know anything about me, I love the TV series Bridgerton and Jane Austen, as well as the fact that I am a massive history nerd, so this book was absolutely perfect for me! It was full of interesting historical facts and it was written in such a wonderful way that just had me enthralled. my favourite bit was how the author kept linking it back to the TV show or the books and it was so wonderful. In fact, it made me want to go and rewatch all of the Regency-era content I could get my hands on.
The writing was easy to read and honestly meant that I sailed through this book. I particularly liked the timeline at the beginning that took you through the entire historical era, not just as a history buff but also to help me figure out what was going on throughout the book. My favourite part has always been the regency fashion and therefore I loved that section. It has genuinely been my dream to own and wear regency dresses and pretend to be in Pride and Prejudice or Bridgerton. It was just so wonderful to read.

I particularly liked the timeline at the beginning that took you through the entire historical era, not just as a history buff but also to help me figure out what was going on throughout the book. My favourite part has always been the regency fashion and therefore I loved that section. It has genuinely been my dream to own and wear regency dresses and pretend to be in Pride and Prejudice or Bridgerton. It was just so wonderful to read.

Orgueil et Potins est un ouvrage qui saura rassasier quiconque souhaite en savoir plus sur l'époque régence. Ainsi que sur chaque détail sociétal ayant pu inspirer de près ou de loin Julia Quinn lorsqu'elle a écrit Les chroniques des Bridgerton.
Se découpant en septembre parties partant de la classe sociale jusqu'aux amours et mariages, ce texte est une longue dissertation. Qui reprend certains événements des Bridgerton pour appuyer ses propos ou au contraire discréditer les évènements.
On en apprend énormément sur la place de la femme - misérable si vous souhaitez mon avis - dans cette société misogyne et patriarcale de la régence. Sur les reines et le pouvoir de la descendance, les morts causées par l'ignorance et la décadence ...
En bref, j'ai beaucoup apprécié ce ton drôle et sarcastique. Ces éléments qui s'enchaînent pour nous instruire et déconstruire certaines fausses idées.

Me es complicado afrontar una reseña de un libro así, porque literalmente que no tiene ninguno de los elementos que yo suelo reseñar así que haré lo que pueda. Básicamente lo que tenemos aquí es un libro que nos viene a contar más sobre un mundo que fue real y por el que ahora ha comenzado a interesarse más gente.
No es un misterio que amo a los Bridgerton, tanto la serie de libros cómo la serie de televisión. Además, de que adoro todo lo que escribe Julia Quinn que normalmente está ambientado en la época de la regencia. Así que cuando vi un libro ambientado en una época sobre la que adoro leer historias, pensé que era mi oportunidad para aprender un poquito más sobre ella.
Realmente no creo que sea un libro que te cuente nada que no puedas encontrar por ti mismo si buscas en internet, pero sí que os aseguro que no lo encontrareis todo resumido en un mismo lugar, con ilustraciones preciosas y contado desde un tono muy fácil de leer. Cada capitulo o sección trata sobre una parte o temática diferente de la regencia, hasta que cuando terminas el libro tienes una visión bastante completa de los aspectos más importantes de la época.
Yo he leído este libro durante todo el mes de julio, más o menos un capitulo cada día, los días que me apetecía leerlo. Al final, no es un libro que te enganche porque no tiene una historia como tal, entonces para mí, lo mejor es leerlo poco a poco cuando me apeteciera leer algo diferente. Y realmente siento que así es como más se disfruta un libro así.

Oggi sono qui per parlarvi di un'altra bellissima novità arrivata nelle nostre librerie.
Come sapete sono una grande amante del genere, quindi potevo mai farmelo scappare? Assolutamente no.
Quante volte ho gridato di gioia dinanzi a un romanzo storico? Quante volte anche voi avrete sospirato: oh, come vorrei vivere in quell'epoca!? Sbagliatissimo come non maiiii! E questo libro ce lo fa proprio capire.
Belle le rose e i fiori, l'amore a prima vista, il corteggiamento, per carità tutto stupendo e romantico... ma ci ricordiamo noi donne a che livello stavamo? Non in quello delle serie tv. Ci ricordiamo l'igiene? Eeehw.
Nel romanzo ci viene presentato un meraviglioso viaggio nell'epoca Regency, con precisione agli anni ambientati in Bridgerton.
E appunto ci vengono narrate cose importanti che nella serie ovviamente non vengono ricordate: la classe, la salute, l'igiene, la moda, il matrimonio e cosi via. E ricordiamoci anche, cosa sottolineata, quanto le donne dovessero saper fare tanto, essere intelligenti ma non troppo. Miei Dei.
Insomma, questa è una guida che non ci si può fare scappare, fan di Bridgerton o meno.

Un buen complemento de las historias románticas de la Regencia. El título alude a los Bridgerton, pero se puede aplicar a novelas de Julia Quinn, Lisa Kleypas o cualquier historia centrada durante esos años.
Es un recorrido ligero por temas como la moda, la higiene, el cortejo o el matrimonio durante la Regencia. Una lectura bastante ligera.
Cuando se llevan ya unos años leyendo novelas románticas históricas se van asimilando estos conceptos, pero siempre es interesante conocer las razones prácticas.
