An ancient book of faerie magic. A renegade who will stop at nothing to possess it. And the two boys who stand in his way.
When fifteen-year-old Tar, part vampire, part something else, helps his father break into a remote house, he doesn’t care about the book his father is looking for. What he does care about is the little locked-up faerie kid. Merrick is alone, vulnerable and deaf.
The break in goes wrong, but Tar refuses to leave the eight-year-old even though it means facing his father’s fury. Events spiral from bad, to worse, to out of control: the book disappears, and Tar and Merrick are wrenched apart.
The boys grow into men, one living in the light and one in darkness, yet neither has forgotten the other. As powerful forces rise, the search for the missing book gains momentum, and Tar and Merrick’s paths collide once more.
Merrick is the key to the missing book and Tar is faced with a near impossible task: to keep the man he cares for safe, and do everything he can to stop the book and its secrets from falling into the wrong hands. And maybe, just maybe, save the world as we know it.
Barbara Elsborg lives in Kent in the south of England. She always wanted to be a spy, but having confessed to everyone without them even resorting to torture, she decided it was not for her. Volcanology scorched her feet. A morbid fear of sharks put paid to marine biology. So instead, she spent several years successfully selling cyanide.
After dragging up two rotten, ungrateful children and frustrating her sexy, devoted, wonderful husband (who can now stop twisting her arm) she finally has time to conduct an affair with an electrifying plugged-in male, her laptop.
Her books feature quirky heroines and bad boys, and she hopes they are as much fun to read as they are to write.
Straight up, Barbara Elsborg writes simply the most amazing fantasy/paranormal romances in the world. Fans who love her contemporary work, please please please give this world a try. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed… and I apologize in advance for the amount of sleep you’re going to lose!
Broken Things is the fourth novel in Barbara Elsborg’s phenomenal Lost and Found series. Each of the previous books can be read as standalones, and in any order, but Broken Things is special because all the main characters play a role in this novel. So read those first, and come back to this one when you’re ready.
This world, where fairies, vampires, angels, demons, shifters (and more) live alongside mortals, is a magical place, but there’s darkness and cruelty here as well. Each of these stories follows the theme where characters are questing for something better. And with faith, hope, love, and friendship, they eventually find it.
Barbara Elsborg paints the most vivid pictures with her words. Descriptions of places, people, and the things they encounter simply blazes to life. The characters are so unique, with delightfully mind bogglingly intriguing backstories. And the chemistry Ms. Elsborg develops between them! Well, it never fails to amaze me.
I feel blessed to have encountered her spectacular writing, and I hope I can help more readers discover how fantastic her stories are. You can thank me later ;).
an advanced reader copy of Broken Things was generously provided by the author for the purpose of my honest review, all opinions are my own
Since the moment I finished Inbetweeners I’ve been anxiously awaiting this story. The title is spot on because Elsborg crushed it with this final book in her Lost & Found series. It’s not often that I agree with standalone claims on books within a series, but this one truly stands firmly on its own. That being said, it was delightful knowing most of the secondary cast and I caught family reunion vibes. Well, if your family is as wild and eclectic as this found family is. Having previously met Tar, I was eager to peel back his mysterious layers. We dive into his story with a brief visit to the past. Wow. This flashback was crucial and my heart was tender within the first chapter. Tar is fifteen when he inadvertently rescues an eight-year-old Merrick. Their time together is brief and strictly platonic, but invisible bonds form regardless. Fast forward a few decades and the men are living very different lives. When Tar stumbles into Merrick a second time his entire orbit shifts. The boy he once knew has become a man he could love. But ‘happily ever afters’ aren’t in his future. Or could he possibly just be on the wrong path?
This spellbinding tale is a prime example of why I have such great respect for talented authors. I envision the creation of a story to be something like a game of chutes and ladders. To reach the goal, shining with 5 stars, one must carefully maneuver the course. Paranormal romance kicks up the difficulty level with an added ropes course. Balance is imperative. Too much focus on world-building and the characters are blurry and weak. Too much focus on the relationships and you lose the magical touch. I think PNR is so special because it’s not easily done…magnificently. The smallest scene can shove you down the chute and you’re retracing your steps. Each slip dims the stars or forces one to blink out. Barb is a master with her paranormal stories and I wish more readers would give them a chance. She gracefully manages the ropes and scales the ladders with ease.
Tar and Merrick are a bold and impossible couple in a strange and complex world. There is SO much but at the end of the day, they are simply two men discovering how to live with half a heart. Tar has courageously faced many monsters and endured unspeakable tortures, but falling in love might be his greatest fear. Good thing Merrick is just as stubborn…and determined.
I deliberately said very little about what is broken and who mends them. I mean, if I told you about magical carpet bags, mystifying mothers, traitorous teammates, and the organization that enforces law and order between humans and angels, demons, vampires, shifters, and faeries then you’d know why this story shines so brilliantly. Oh wait, I forgot about gargoyles. And chameleons. Guess you’ll just have to see what else I forgot?!
Beware of: Abuse and neglect leave permanent scars. (Merrick and Tar) Strong leaders do not lead alone. (Yes, this one’s on you Tar) And falling in love can be the most terrifying and exhilarating battle of all. (Guess who)
This book is for: Paranormal romance readers or anyone looking to experience a stunning supernatural love story…swoony ending included.
Broken Things had a promising start but unfortunately ended up fizzling out for me.
I was really into the first 25%, when Merrick and Tar are 8 and 15. Their characters were compelling, the plot was engaging and their bond was really sweet. Unfortunately, when we time skip to the present, 22 years later at 26%, not much else worked for me and I lost interest in the story aside from Merrick’s bag and the book and his relationship to and with them.
Merrick and Tar only knew each other for a few days as children. Their relationship wasn’t romantic thankfully, but the bond was deep and meaningful to both. When they meet again 22 years later, they act like they’re in love after just a few hours together. I kept getting sucked out of the story by the knowledge that they didn’t know each other as adults at all and their only real bond was forged as 8 and 15 year olds. It kind of creeped me out. There was no relationship building, no romance building, just physical attraction and shared childhood trauma.
“You already know I love you. I told you before that I’d always love you. Nothing’s changed except the way I love you. Only now I’m wondering if you forgot that I said it.” “I didn’t forget. But you were eight.” “Yeah, I hardly knew about sex then. ‘Course I wasn’t thinking of that, but I knew I loved you. Now I love you even more.”
I don’t know, it didn’t work for me. I want more than a childhood bond and adult physical attraction in my romance.
Beyond that, the action/thriller/mystery part had so many moving parts, so many seemingly unrelated characters, coming together in ways that I found clunky and inorganic. To me it felt like a dozen different ideas that may have worked individually or even paired up but which were forced together even though they didn’t really work well together. This trend even followed into the epilogue where we were introduced to at least a half dozen new characters and had several different storylines. Like I said, it didn’t feel organic, didn’t flow.
Finally, maybe I’m just growing out of Elsborg… Merrick had a Jonty kind of endlessly optimistic, gotta-be-funny despite his hardship vibe 🫤 This wittiness is signature Elsborg but I’m a little over it. It was fun until it felt overdone 😕
KU. If you love Elsborg and/or this series, this will likely be worth your time. As for me, I was a bit disappointed… I’d have loved more relationship building and romance and less disjointed thriller and insta-lust.
I’m not a lover of paranormal books. They really grate on my nerves, but there’s just something about the way Barbara Elsborg writes that hooks me in.
She writes with great wit and humour. Her characters are beautiful and flawed. Merrick and Tar are so sweet together.
This isn’t the kind of book you can read after a couple of glasses of wine. Well you can, but then you are going to have to read those chapters again! You need to know your vampires, from your gargoyles and watch out for the werewolves. I’m vegetarian but I’m thinking faerie blood and the lick of a vampire might be the sweetest things in the world.
4.5 stars. Tar was one of a kind, what exactly he doesn’t know, yet. What he did know, was he’s part vampire.
Tar is fifteen when he’s on a shady job with his father somewhere in the woods. They have to find a special magical book, with unknown powers. While his father looks around, Tar finds Merrick, an eight years old deaf faerie, he takes him with him, against the will of his father.
Creatures are after them, again for this special book. Tar couldn’t provide they captured, prisoned, and tortured him, thank goodness Merrick got away.
In the present, twenty years later, we meet Merrick again. He kept himself low, moving around the UK, and never stayed long in case they are looking for him. Always wondered where Tar would be. Is he alive, would he miss him, would he want to be with him?
Then, their paths cross, and Merrick is delighted, Tar less. Tar is Head of Paranormal Resolutions, an eventful job. He wants to keep Merrick safe at all costs, even if this means they can’t be together. Faith has other plans. Tar lives in darkness, now, there’s a light, Merrick, he can’t resist.
I can’t get into details, but the conquest of the book is one thrilling event. To discover how one-of-a-kind Tar really is, and what magic Merrick possesses and carries is breathtaking. Between all this, Tar and Merrick are getting closer, more because Merrick has an irresistible attitude, when they get into action, it’s hot! He’s really the light of this story.
This author has a brilliant way of writing, the fantasy you can find here is absolutely marvelous! The sexiness is hot and fun. The humor is subtle. Tar and Merrick are a great couple! Guess what, you will meet the characters from the previous stories again! Overall a captivatingly written story, quite amusing, delightful, delicious, and with an amazing plot!
I enjoyed this book. A lot. Barbara Elsborg gives good paranormal, including plenty of feelings, some humour, and hurt/comfort, definitely second chances.
BE has a way with stories about young boys who meet as friends, form an attachment that transcends time and distance that then translates so wonderfully into adult poignancy.
I felt for Tar and Merrick. They belonged together but they had to overcome hurdles.
Merrick followed him to the bedroom and Tar stood in front of the mirror. Merrick had messily written you are good, you are kind, you are beautiful over and over again. He might have written I love you if he hadn’t worried Tar might freak out.
There is an edge to the story as both MCs grow up with a degree of pain but that's especially so for Tar. The present, which is the majority of the book, is about a mystery, and reconnection, and romance. Definitely romance. Engrossing reading. 4.5 Stars! Blog review at
RTC but damn did I enjoy this one. This bpok was just so much fun to read. And so romantic too. This book was just so lovely. I really lost myself in this book in the storyline and I could not stop reading. This book just hit all of my buttons and I had the best of time reading it. Paranormal romances are a genre i’m only starting to get into, but safe to say that this book showed me that I can really enjoy this, because I just really enjoyed reading this book. This book just worked for me and I had such a good time reading it.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest opinion
❤ A great start as Tar's 15th birthday gets a unexpected present although is father is furious when he's discovered. This has triggers of child abuse that my not be of liking with readers. Damm I hated Merrick's father. Tar is part vampire and finds Merrick 8 years a faerie deaf boy and thus starts and adventures of them both. Twists and turns as things happen and dangers close for them both. When there both separated things get super tough for them. A reuniting again years later and things don't go well between them but life has away of throwing them a second chance. A few twists and a mystery of the book keeps the story rolling. I loved this one for the ending of the series. An HEA ending with dual povs included.
I've wondered what Tar is for a while now, so it's lovely to finally know. Mostly. Merrick is an utter delight -- we need more people like him irl. The epilogue is so freaking adorable!!
Can I give this a million stars? Because that's what Broken Things and the Lost and Found series deserves. As a matter of fact z there's nothing that Barbara Elsborg can't write. Everything she writes is just so wonderful and riveting.
I love that Tar is now the main character. I've been waiting for his story and it was well worth the wait.
Tar and Merrick were perfect for each other. Their story just tugs at your heartstrings. Ms. Elsborg is the Mistress of Hurt/Comfort stories that tug at your heartstrings. She's also great at angst. Omg, all that angst between Tar and Merrick was just delicious.
This was the last book in this series. I'm going to miss it. I hope they'll be more in this universe and the characters will make an appearance.
4.5 stars This is a story of two young men that were put in a situation that was so intense that it forced a bond, but then they were split apart. Now in the present, their past may be coming back to haunt them. And despite time and distance as they reconnect that bond seems to still be there. But there’s also more to it now that they are adults. As they try to solve the mystery of what really happened in the past and tie it to nefarious activities in the present they find themselves back in a situation of trying to keep each other safe again. But they are up against a whole host of supernaturals and faery magic.
I have been most fascinated by Tar since the beginning of this series. He is this guarded, isolated, grumpy, loner and is in charge of Paranormal Resolutions. He has trust and control issues and he doesn’t let himself get close to people. And now we are given a window to his past and finally figure out why. Merrick has been the only person to pierce his armor in his entire life and he tends to challenge him to do things that are uncharacteristic for him. Tar has this protective and possessive instinct about Merrick and as their emotional and physical connections deepen, that increases as well. Merrick seems to be the one person that can see under Tar's dark and tough façade to his heart and potential. And he brings some sass, humor, light, and positivity into his life. Their strong connection seems to provide the missing pieces to the other's broken parts. But being together also seems to make them even more of a target. Unlocking the past might give them the answers for a way to secure a safer present and maybe even a happier future.
This is full of mystery, suspense, danger, and secrets. There’s a whole cast of supes (many of whom we have seen couple up in previous books) and several antagonists. There’s is a lot going on from the past to the present and layers of mysteries to solve. It will require teamwork, a bit of faith, trust, and maybe a little pixie dust to manage the situation and all of its moving parts, and figure out where things stand at the end. I loved the thundercloud/sunshine aspect of Tar and Merrick's relationship. And along the way, there are opportunities for growth and change for each of them as they face the demons from their pasts and their own issues in order to find their purpose and passions. I loved that the author surprised me with how it all ended up.
The whole Lost and Found collection became one of my favorite series written by Barbara Elsborg. And I was waiting with anticipation for Tar's story because we didn't know much about him, what he is, how he became the head of the PR, and of course - what happened in his life, that made him dark, brooding, distant guy, with a heart buried deep under a pile of hurt... I was begging Barbara to give Tar his HEA, I needed him to find his one and only, someone who will thaw his soul and would love him unconditionally. The Broken Things got all the answers, even though they were so unpredictable, a lot of things happen in the book, starting with Tar's childhood. From the first moment of him meeting Merrick, the sweet, beautiful, and damaged, he made it his mission to protect the boy, to make sure that no one and nothing will hurt him anymore. But, they were kids, and it was a long and dangerous journey, during which they lost each other, but never forgot about their promises. I loved that we got to meet other characters from previous books, short cameos of different couples that play their roles in Lost and Found Universe. So much happens to Merrick and Tar in the years before they meet again, danger follows them, the book that holds the future of the world, the one in Merrick's possession is the goal of a dark and unknown enemy, and it's their responsibility to ensure it will never end in the wrong hands. They loved each other as kids, and they fall in love with each other as adults, and I was thrilled when they met again and realized their feelings, their memories were still there, and in the end, they finally got well-deserved happiness, they got to have and keep each other and create a beautiful family. There are a few surprising things in the book, but it's so well written, the story is very dynamic and flows so effortlessly, and ends so perfectly, rounding all unanswered questions and giving the series a perfect finale. You must read Broken Things, it will keep you on the edge of your seat, and will deliver the beautiful mix of hurt/comfort, sweet love between two souls that save each other and will leave you very happy at the end!
Barbara Elsborg doesn't stop to amaze me over and over again. No matter what she decides to write being contemporary or urban fantasy is full of soul and imagination above par. Her characters are well developed, usually flawed and written with real depth and compassion. Usually she puts her characters (and readers!) through a wringer and you can expect a rollercoaster of emotions, action, heat and banter until they reach their HEA. This book is no exception. Fifteen years old Tar and eight years old Merrick will melt your heart and both of them twenty years later will break it and put it together again. When reading other books in Lost and Found I was wondering about mysterious Tar and wishing that he gets a book of his own. I can say my wish came true in a best way possible. All of the books can be read as standalones in no particular order, but for better understanding and enjoyment I recommend that you start with book one because the characters from previous books make significant appearances in this one.
4.5 stars rounded up from me. A great way to round off the series, and I suppose the moral should be don't trust anyone else with something you ought to do yourself. Tar [or should I say Star 🌟] has his own HEA at last. Nice catching up with the MC's of the previous books and so happy that Barb is busy writing another Jonty story. 🥳🥳🥳
Loved this whole series - and this was a great final book. So much hurt - and comfort - I had to keep trusting that Barbara would make it come right at the end - and thankfully the epilogue delivered that. This author is one of my absolute favourites. Her characters and stories are complex and multilayered.
I lost interest two thirds of the way through - absolutely loved the first part, which was set in their childhoods, but their present lives were... bleak? Not in the way their childhoods were bleak, but a stuck-thirty-something kind of bleakness with a fantasy twist. The political plot/mystery was also hard to follow, way too many characters to keep track of, but it would've been fine if I were more interested in the main couple as individuals. Alas, not for me. Three stars because the part set in the past was A+.
I love author Barbara Elsborg and this was my fault for trying to read a genre (paranormal) that I don't really like or understand. Thus, only 3 stars. There were some touching moments and cute kids but overall I just couldn't get into it.
We have come to the end of this brilliant and bizarre series, I will miss this strange cast of beings...
This is where we finally learn about Tar, the head of Paranormal Resolutions. He has been the solid, strong yet very stoic person to help everyone during their battles with good versus evil, I need his story.
From the very beginning as a young boy Tar's very caring personality dictates the story, his actions throws a big and potentially dangerous situation of theft into a life changing one instead. He loses everyone he knows at only 15, also he finally meets his inner creature, he truly is one of a kind...
Merrick is a faerie, living in the normal world totally isolated and being cruelly abused. He is only 8 when he meets the young Tar, he doesn't know but his whole sad life is about to change drastically, yet he just smiles. He is such a sweet soul even with his disability, and he adores Tar, till he loses him, sigh.
In this episode of good versus evil there are so many mysterious happenings, very odd creatures, kidnappings, and back stabbing families that you wonder how it will ever end. But of course Barbara Elsborg's talent at putting people through the ringer and then bringing them together to find their soul mates is one we all know and love.
Tar and Merrick's journey is a long and sad one, there is little romance and happiness for the pair but their connection is solid.
And then you get to the epilogue ... Oh my goodness, how I loved that chapter, to learn of their future, to meet up with all of the previous characters with their own families was pure joy. My heart is happy now .
This is the final in the Lost and Found series, and honestly I've loved every single one of these stories. From the very first moment we met Tar in the first book I've wanted, no needed, his story and this is it.
This series really is best read in order, you technically could read this as a standalone but there are many common threads running through them, and the previous couples do pop up from time to time. But this is Tar, and Merrick's story and it's the perfect finale to this great series.
I loved the start with the two boys meeting and connecting instantly and I really wanted them to find happiness together. I knew there would be trouble along the way (this is a Barbara book, after all 😂) but I have enough faith in her that Tar and Merrick would end up happy.
I laughed out loud more than once, I almost cried and I really felt for these two who really got the shit end of things more than once. Especially Tar who really had a rough time and I just wanted those responsible to get their comeuppance.
I loved both of these guys, I loved the snark and sass of Merrick and how he gradually broke down Tar's walls. If ever there were two who were perfect for each other, it's these two. I wanted Tar's story from the start and I'm so happy we finally got it, and it's a good one. I needed to know what Tar is, and now we do it's even better than I'd hoped.
The story fairly moves along and I was hooked on it until I finished, and now it's all done I'm a little sad I won't get more in this world. It was all tied up though quite nicely and I'm not unhappy with how it all ended.
I'm not normally a big fan of all things paranormal (the Lost and Found series being one of only a few exceptions) so it took me a few chapters to immerse myself back into this world of vampires, angels and faeries.
However, Ms Elsborg is a master magician when it comes to weaving a literary spell that has you rooting for the emotional well-being of all her mystical creatures. You very comfortably find yourself flipping over into that mindspace where a gargoyle in your living-room is normal practice and wondering if your Amazon subscription will run to the cost of your very own magical time travel bag!
Tar and Merrick's tale was a perfect way to finish the series. After bonding initially as children and then reconnecting years later as adults it was very entertaining and often sweet to see Merrick's attempts to drag the perpetually grim Tar towards the lighter side of life.
I was enthralled with Tar and Merrick's hard-fought journey to their lovely HEA, I laughed with them, grizzled at the bad guys and even had to swipe at the occasional tear inducing fleck of dust in the eyes! It was also great to catch up with couples from the earlier books, but it all just made me yearn for more adventures in this wonderfully magical world.
Reading this book was like seeing the colors yellow, red and black. Reading the epic love story between our terrific MC’s was like tasting sunshine at its warmest and most delicious peak. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about Broken Things.
From the way Barbara Elsborg wrote, to how the friendship between the two boys developed in the past how it grew, the way it grew in the present. Heck, even Tar’s relationship with his dad was something I loved fiercely. Then Merrick’s with his own dad? My heart is still sad over it.
Anyway, this was a well developed love story where there are equal amounts of romance, steam and plot. I will be rereading though I won’t touch the epilogue, I really don’t like it when satan slash Lucifer is almost glamourized in books or movies. Perhaps it’s me not being cool or my faith not being the most popular but it’s not for me.
It’s pretty disturbing because when the kid first came up I was already shipping him with Anis. But oh well, even if that book comes out, I’ll not be buying. Not will I buy the other books by this author.
If sex/romance with Lucifer/satan/diabros doesn’t freak you out then you’re going to absolutely love this book, without skipping over some parts.
This the the final volume in Barbara Elsborg's Lost and Found series. In my opinion, it's absolutely the best. I suspect that's because, having read the preceding three (Double Trouble, What If and Inbetweeners), I was very curious about Tar, the head of Paranormal Resolutions. Tar's been an enigma from the get-go: cool, aloof and professional, with a Teflon demeanor. In Broken Things, we finally learn what's behind the facade -- and it's both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Of course, there's plenty of heat, but it never overshadows the important relationships woven through this wonderful book. Tar and Merrick have a relationship that reaches back to childhood, and the bond forged through adversity makes Tar fiercely protective and Merrick fiercely loyal. All you lovers of shifters, vampires, fairies and that ilk will get your fill in the most chill-producing manner. As usual, Barbara Elsborg knows her way around language, plot and character development. If you start the series here, you'll still be able to thoroughly enjoy the other three -- but I'm so glad I followed each as the author produced it. Another superbly crafted series from one of the best mm authors around!!
4.5/5 - As someone who is not a massive fan of paranormal books, I have to encourage people to give this book a read. I love this author’s Jonty series and have slowly been working my way through her contemporary back catalogue. I’d somehow missed this was part of a series, so ended up reading the final book first - I’m usually OCD about reading in order! - but I actually didn’t feel like I was missing too much, other than some couples that were mentioned were obviously already paired up. Despite being anti-paranormal usually, I was a fan years ago of the True Blood books, and I got a similar feel from these - vampires, faeries, shifters, all living together in the modern world. I think it being a mix of paranormal characters but with a contemporary setting made it really accessible and easy to read. Plus I loved the characters of Tar and Merrick. We meet two young boys who are both fending for themselves to different degrees, who spend a couple of intense days together before life as they know it changes. Seeing them after time has passed and how they reconnect was lovely. I’m now going to go back and read the first 3 books and see how some of the other couples got together!
I cannot tell you how much I love this book and what a fantastic finish to the Lost and Found series it is.
Circumstances during their eventful and damaging childhoods bring Tar and Merrick together only to then be separated until adulthood. Once they reconnect they are once again drawn to each other but Tar feels too broken inside to be with anyone. So begins a tumultuous journey involving secrets that must remain so, villains wanting vengeance and a flickering romance that begins to burn bright all whilst ensuring that the world and the realms are not destroyed.
I felt so many emotions reading Tar and Merrick’s love story. My heart broke for them at times and then sang for them when they got their well deserved HEA. A giggle also snuck out here and there with some of Merrick’s banter!
There’s plenty of chemistry and heat filled scenes between these two wonderful characters, a great cast of side characters to keep things interesting, some angst, some drama and a very engaging perfectly paced plot that all combine for a very enjoyable read.
Fantastic Conclusion to this Lost & Found Series. I love the way Barbara's story's flow her writing is exciting her characters come alive and even though this story is a heartfelt one there is a little bit of humour as well.
We finally get to here about Tar the head of the Paranormal Resolutions and his story in what happened, i needed his story so much as he was a strong and moody character but what he went through to be where he ended up was heart breaking. Tar met Merrick when they was young Tar fifteen and Merrick eight, they only spend a few days together but they had formed a bond then only to be ripped apart for over 20 years.
I loved there story from childhood to adulthood, there were so many secrets that they both kept but these unfolded through out there journey together where there lives was in danger around every corner, plus we got to catch up with the other guys we met in the first three books which i loved.
Barbara is the queen of MM story's her world building and story telling is phenomenal, i can't get enough of her books. If you love PNR MM you are going to be in for a treat as i can't recommend these book enough.
Tar and Merrick met fifteen years ago when they were children despite being seven years apart give or take. They are horrifically torn apart by those who should love and protect them. They meet again and get a second chance to reconnect. Tar is part vampire and something else. Merrick is fae. They are drawn to each other; they have a fantastic bond and connection. Their past catches up to them. The world building is phenomenal in this story, it hooked me right from the first page and didn’t let me go. I’m still thinking about the story!! Overall, a phenomenal read! The story was really well written and kept me engaged, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
I read paranormal stories in between other books, and I’m so happy I got to read this one! Already from the beginning it had my attention.
We get to meet these two when they’re both children, and already then we can feel the bond between them. Merrick is a sweetie, and he’s never giving up on Tar!
This story has an adventurous and exciting storyline that I really appreciated. And the authors writing made me picture everything perfectly. It’s funny at times as well.
The love and connection between Tar & Marrick was to feel through the pages while reading. Amazing, sizzling hot chemistry! I’m really happy with the ending and the epilogue.
Broken Things is the latest addition to the Lost and Found series by Barbara Elsborg and I wasn't disappointed. The book is funny, witty, with some intense moments, a second chance at love, forgiveness, some angst great characters and once I started reading I couldn't put it down. Even if I hadn't read the other books in this series, I would be able to understand the dynamics of it. Tar and Merrick are as different as night and day but Tar save Merrick as a young child but paid for it. The two didn't know what had happened to one another until years later. The book has so many twists and turns, that you won't know who to believe. Even though they were young, you know they were destined to be together. I enjoyed this book from start to finish.
This book feels beautifully crafted in so many ways. The world building is deftly done and brings the fantasy and paranormal elements of the story to life (this is part of a series, and while the story here can stand alone it’s well worth experiencing the other books in this world as well). The characters are engagingly drawn— their personalities and emotions feel poignant and powerful and the more you get to know them, the more easy it becomes to care deeply about what happens to them— Merrick and Tar live in a world full of magic and wonder, but it’s not always an easy space to inhabit, and their connection is definitely a bulwark against the darker elements. Overall, a really rewarding read.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
