I was the diamond of my father's court, and his most prized possession--his 'gift from the gods'. My shimmering skin and pale complexion set me apart from the other nobles of the court. I was cherished. I was loved.
Until I wasn't. My father sold me north to settle his debts, and I was shipped off to a strange kingdom. To be a wife? A concubine? A trophy won in a war of politics and finances?
No, something much worse.
I was to be sacrificed to the monster hiding in the mountains.
This book can be read as a stand alone, or as a continuation of the Rise of the Draken series.
This book is a standalone in the sense that it doesn't involve the mated group from books 1-4. However, it introduces new characters in a different area before the events of the previous book. Nasi and Kaida's story is a slow burn and so sweet. They have no one to learn from and are operating on instinct alone. I'm so intrigued and excites for the rest of their story.
This has been one of my favorite couples!!! I can't wait to read The Lost Child! I am excited at the idea of all of these books and stories connecting in some way!
4⭐️- so good! I’m glad to see there are more drakens out there and there’s more to the story!
Kaida was given as payment for a debt between kingdoms. Sent to be an offering to a monster in the woods. When she is found by the monster, she is not completely scared of him. Having healed her wounds and brought her to shelter, she began to try and understand the creature.
Nasi, the monster in the woods, is unsure of who he is, what he is, and where he comes from. Bits and pieces come back at a time.
Despite enjoying Nasi’s company, Kaida feels compelled to return to her father and confront him about who and what she is. Nasi still has memories coming back to him in pieces, and does not wish for Kaida to leave but doesn’t want to hold her back either.
She returns to her father, only to find out that he knew all along she wasn’t human. Her mother was a draken that died in childbirth. Locked up in a cage, she releases the distress call that brings Nasi back to her rescue.
So cute. Loved these two. Curious to see how they all tie together.
So I admit, I was a little disappointed at how the first series ended. I was sure there would be more of Wren and her mates. So I started this book a little unsettled. However, I love that the author brought in bits of the story we learned from the first 4 books, yet made it a standalone that you could follow even if you hadn’t read the previous books. Definitely a great storyteller.
Intriguing story from the other side of the mountain. Now that these two dragons have found each other and have mated, will they find and meet up with their race on Lyonness. I need closure for these two and I feel that the story gave us a happy mating ending but not a happy world ending. I want both.
Overall, great story, I just want the connection with the other characters from the past 4 books. Great read
A good spin off that was much more well written than the previous books in the series. Only a few typos here and there this time, but didnt distract too much from the story. I felt like this relationship developed so much better than wren and her mates in the other books. The pacing was good and I actually didn’t want to take breaks from reading.
Kaida and Nasi are just as awesome as the other characters we've met so far. The Draken seem to have been flung far and wide with the destruction of their island home. Same great writing that traps you in this world and keeps you begging for more.
This book continues on in the same world, but with all new characters. Less action packed, though that's there too. This story is more about the building relationship that starts between a stolen princess and the monster of the mountain.
