I loved reading about the outsider experience of visiting Korea. When I studied Korean for Beginners at the university it was partly out of curiosity and partly in case I ever travel there. I've mostly seen the country represented by Koreans in films and k-dramas, so it was interesting to see it from a Swedish perspective, especially since the narrator is a vegetarian.
This is sort of awful, since the story is biographical, but I found the character somewhat irritating. There was just a lot of drinking and complaining, which I suppose I'm supposed to be sympathetic towards because he's describing experiences with racism and culture shock. I know that if I wrote about myself as a twenty year old it wouldn't be a flattering picture, so really I admire his honesty.
I enjoyed reading his thoughts on both Korean and Swedish culture. He brought up some very interesting and complicated topics, and because of that I would recommend this book.
