Okay my second book by this author, started with the first in the Travis Bishop series, started with a great action thriller, fast paced.
This one is a step below, still good, still a great character, but a little slower, not quite so fast paced and a slightly weaker ending than the first book.

Sometimes Travis Bishop just can't get a break !! All he wants is to be left alone.. on his ranch. His past lives continue to catch up with him.
This is technology and terrorism, with many slightly less action than book 1
Travis Bishop just wants a quiet and peaceful life on his ranch in Texas with his horses. Only trouble can't seem to leave him alone. When a man's body is found containing a chip the police approach Travis for assistance. Travis by the way is an ex CIA op. The next thing, Travis finds a fire burning down his stables and he loses his horse Scarlett which belonged to his wife Tara now deceased. Travis is on a mission to find out who is behind the fire and why is there cyanide at the end of the capsule tracker in the man's body. If you love special agent, CIA, black ops boos this is perfect. It is the second in the Travis Bishop series and you can read it as a standalone. Only I would highly recommend you read the first one in the series to get a fuller picture. What I liked about this book: brilliant writing. Character depth. Fantastic plot. Great pace. Lots of excitement. What I didn't like about this book: Nothing. K. J. Kalis is one of my top go to authors and I can highly recommend anything written by Kalis. The Travis Bishop series is one that I'd recommend to anyone. If you're looking to dip your toe into this genre then this series is a must-read Kerry Kennedy Author
This is book two of the Travis Bishop Thrillers series and it sees former CIA Agent Travis Bishop pulled into a local mystery of a body going missing from the coroner’s office. Sheriff Burnett knows a bit about Travis and his past, so calls him and asks if he can help. He gets to the coroner’s office and is given the report on the heavily burnt body of a John Doe, although shortly identified as a Jake West, through medical metalwork within the corpse. The body had clearly been badly beaten, before being shot in the head. But there was much more to this strange case, as the body went missing overnight and there was no footage to show what had happened. The Coroner, Dr Ava Scott, found one very unusual item within the corpse, which soon brings danger to his ranch and some dangerous people who make it personal by burning down his old barn, which causes the death of the only remaining link to his dead wife Kira, her favourite horse. They also try to break into his secret war room in his home, while the fire pulls his attention away. It seems that danger always finds him, no matter where he may be. When he finds encrypted data on the item, he has to contact Elena Lobranova, a CIA agent he helped when a Russian plot came close to killing the American President. Soon she has him in contact with an old Mossad agent, Eli Segal, who has some knowledge of the implants, with Israel already pursuing this sort of technology. The implants are linked with Explority Biotech and its CEO Keaton Callahan, but he is not the person behind everything that is planned. He is being blackmailed into doing as another man wants, through a major stake in his company and through his own father. Keaton and everyone connected to him, have been drawn into a deranged man’s plans for a worldwide caliphate, starting with the destruction of America. A huge terrorist attack is planned and Keaton is being forced to code some sort of data within these implants, which have been modified by Raashid, Sharjah without his knowledge. Raashid wants America and Israel to pay for taking his brother Sadi and will do all he can to get the infidels to pay. A terrorist attack is about to happen in New Orleans at the height of the annual Mardi Gras celebrations. Thousands will die if Travis, Elena and Eli can’t stop the plot before it gets triggered. All Travis wanted was to get back to his ranch and care for his horses, but his skills are needed elsewhere and since the enemy made it personal, he won’t stop until they are. The biotech created by Explority Biotech and placed in a lot of employee’s arms and others under the madman Raashid. It allows for more than just tracking of people, by location, it was originally to monitor and medicate people’s medical conditions, but twisted to be a kill switch and more. The major players will have a lot to do, dangerous things, before this all comes to a head! Travis certainly gets pulled into these sorts of situations, but he is well trained and can control his emotions, to deal with whatever situation he finds himself in. There will definitely be more from this former Delta Force veteran and CIA agent, as danger and his contacts call on him yet again. I can’t wait to see what comes next for him. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This second book in the Travis Bishop thriller series finds Travis trying to lead a simple life on his horse ranch in Texas but, once again, fate has far more electrifying plans for him. When the local coroner makes an unusual and disturbing discovery during the course of an autopsy only to have that very same body go missing immediately afterward, the sheriff turns to Travis for help. A unique skill set and resources beyond the scope of normal local law enforcement make Travis the best hope of getting to the bottom of this mystery as quickly as possible. Unfortunately for Travis, however, his involvement puts him firmly in the crosshairs of a cunning and ruthless adversary. What unfolds in his investigation is a gripping tale of revenge, conflicting ideologies, blackmail, coercion, and terrorism that will leave you gasping. I was drawn into this story right from the beginning and could not put it down until I had finished the last sentence. If you enjoy a fast-paced story with nail-biting tension, great characters and a plot that will shake you to your foundation, you need look no further.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.
In spite of how much Travis tries he always sees himself involved in bad situations that lead him back to working with the CIA, FBI, and other government agencies, and Threat Rising is no different. The story has a great plot, and many twists and turns, it is fast-paced, which keeps you glued to the book till you reach the end. The most frightening thing in this story is the question of implants to track people - they are a reality already and their use can be much more than intriguing! If you enjoy the mystery/thriller genre this is a must-read!.

This is a gripping read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
The problem with series is the author tries too hard to make it better than book one. There were too many "miracles" at the end.
Also, if I was boarding my horse for Travis to train, I would be furious that he had another job. Who is at the ranch watching these animals? I mean when his ONE employee questions him, Travis got bent out of shape.
Do I recommend book two? Good question troll. Read the book and you tell me.
Not for me The story is ok, but the way Travis seems to just accept.his fate and go along with it seems ridiculous, given how his character is made out to be. Information in the investigation, just seems to appear in front of them, with no explanation of where it came from, or how they got it Overall poor, not for me at all, maybe others will enjoy
As usual the author has put together a tightly scripted story with plenty of twists and surprises... A bit too much description but it keeps you turning the pages right to the end.
Sometimes Travis Bishop just can't get a break. All he wants is to be left alone.. on his ranch. His past lives continue to catch up with him. KJ Kalis tells a very convincing story with great detail and background. I really enjoyed this book.
I have one question, why did Eli or I guess the CIA had to use Travis to go get the girl out of the apartment and they couldn’t send in anyone else made no sense whatsoever.
Very good story with the character Travis Bishop. Well put together and entertaining throughout. Travis kept getting in deeper and deeper until the end. Enjoyed it.
Travis gets pulled into trouble that almost costs him his life.
When the local sheriff bumps into Travis at his favourite eatery he should've known that trouble was going to follow. This is yet another great action thriller by KJ Kalis and the Travis Bishop series with twists and turns that drag the retired CIA operative into more trouble and action than he probably saw while serving his country.
