4 Stars for Dragon Called: Prince of the Other Worlds, Book 1 (audiobook) by Cassie Alexander and Kara Lockharte.
This was a fun story. I just love nurse Andi. She is such a wonderful character. She’s seen it all in the ER so when she is thrown in with these fantasy characters it just doesn’t faze her. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series.

I'm starting to think that all these DNF's are because I'm in a funk.
August 2020 is just feeling off for some reason.
I tried getting into this story. I really, really did. Had this book been written back in the early 2010's I would have been in love with it but that's not the case now. I wanted more complex and developed characters. I'll give it to the authors for trying to info-dump quite a bit of information on both character's backgrounds and how their lives were currently but it didn't work for me. I don't want to listen to various minutes of their inner monologue of explanations. I want to be shown it, I want to have it be little meaningful tidbits here and there throughout the story (a great example of this is the Crossbreed Series By Dannika Dark). That was eventually what made me not want to finish listening to this book.

She didn't need him, she was better than this, she shouldn't have to put up with--but his hands were in her hair, and he kissed her like he needed her to live and while she didn't want to get hurt, she wanted to be wanted like that--and she wanted to let go and let herself feel that way too.
I really enjoyed this book! Andi is an ER nurse who was left financially responsible for her irresponsible brother. After he disappears, she is desperate to find a way to make a lot of cash fast and finds herself responding to an online ad. She is hired as an overnight nurse for wealthy and notorious billionaire Damian Blackwood--one night, no questions asked. But as soon as she arrives at his sprawling mansion, she is amazed and intrigued by the bachelor's secretive and mysterious lifestyle, and she is soon thrust into a magical war with only a dragon shifter to protect her from the Unearthly Realm.
The scenes with both Andi and Damian were so lovely and explosive; I lived to see them interact and read their banter! The dynamic between them could be a little cringe-worthy at times (Damian could be a real jackass) but their attraction was undeniable to both. Damian is plagued with feelings of immense responsibility for those around him, while Andi is haunted by untrustworthy men of her past. They combusted just as often as their lust caught fire, but I couldn't help but root for their push-and-pull relationship. The ending left me anxiously waiting for the next book, and I hope I can score an ARC as well!

I really enjoyed the novels I read by Cassie Alexander, so when I saw that she was releasing a new series written in conjunction with Kara Lockharte whom I didn’t know yet about, I must admit that I was curious.
Andi is a nurse, but she has debts that she has to pay back so she is looking for new opportunities. When she is offered a night’s work in exchange for a large sum of money, she doesn’t hesitate for long. And if she is not allowed to ask questions, it is difficult for her when she arrives at the billionaire’s home. Indeed, Damian Blackwood seems to hide many secrets, including his nature as a dragon.
It was a nice paranormal romance novel. The relationship between Damian and Andi is not necessarily very simple, but it was nice to follow them. Besides, how can you resist the dragons? Impossible, right?

1st book in the Prince of the Other Worlds series. There is a cute prequel, Dragon’s Don’t Date. You don’t need to listen to that to enjoy this, but it’s a fun intro to the MCs.
While there’s several adventures, questions answered, and some very sexy scenes - relationship wise this is a slow burn spanning multiple books. Damian and Andi have a push/pull and can’t get on the same page at the same time. I like that it isn’t always Damian pushing Andi away.
I love how Andi’s experience as a nurse makes her fairly unfazed when she encounters all the paranormal creatures in Damian’s world. I adored the world that Alexander & Lockharte have built along with a strong romantic suspense element. Normally drawn out relationship drama isn’t my thing, but I really love the action adventure element here. It has me captivated and I’m actually looking forward to Damian & Andi taking a bit to finding their HEA.
Lots to enjoy even with a cliffhanger. I’m looking forward to Dragon Destined.
Narration:
I love Victoria Mei’s performance. She has a wide range of voices, emotions, and personalities. Such a great listen that’s easy to get lost in.

A nurse gets called to help a mysterious billionaire with a patient and gets sucked into the paranormal society.
I enjoyed this and I may continue reading the series... but I'm also annoyed with the relationship drama.
He's ashamed of being a dragon... why!? I just can't understand why he would be, but apparently, his dragon is a separate part of him. Frustrating world building choice number 1 for the author. And this leads to the other parts of this story that irritated me.
The heroine is pretty amazing. She takes everything in stride and rolls with the weird happenings.
They go on a date pretty quickly and it goes from "yes, you guys are having a great time together and vibing and he's opening up to her" to "apparently, this dude thinks that he has to be a douche bag to her to warn her off cause he's dangerous".
I hate when "heroes" feel the need to be a jerk rather than just saying "I'm concerned about my ability to have a good relationship with you because I have a dangerous job and a dangerous beast".
There are some interesting tidbits in here that make me wonder about her true past and family situations.
Did it leave me wanting more? I liked it, but the set up to their relationship is so annoying, that I'm not sure if I want to keep going in the series.
I'm always desperate for audiobooks, so maybe I'll give it a little bit longer. We'll see.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Andi and Damien. The author does a great job developing the story and pulls you in with all the action and romance. She describes her scenes beautifully and moves the story fluidly. The chemistry is hot and their passions sizzle. I loved the dialogue and enjoyed reading their story.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, desperately hoping there will be another in what is hopefully a series.
This story showed that opposites definitely can attract and that being different is not always that bad.
These two main characters are both head strong and that is what seems to make this work.
Hard to put down once I started, did I mention that I loved it!!!

Wow! Action-packed all the way through. When Andi is hired to look after a private patient overnight, she doesn’t expect to find out that monsters exist. Damien is sure that he can never allow Andi to distract him from his job, but when the attraction grows, fate will step in. I enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more about this exciting couple in the next book.

Damien is a dragon but Andi didn't know that when she got the job nursing for one night, she needed the money, so she wasn't going to turn down a month's wages for one night of work. Andi get pulled in to magic when things start to go on around the house she's in!

DNF @ 50%..... Look, I wanted to love this and the story started off interesting - a nursing gig for one night, no questions asked - but it just did not work for me.
First off the lead characters have barely any interaction or romantic development before they're totally into each other. Andi is bland and kind of boring (who takes off their wet clothes to walk around naked in a fur coat on the job??) and the fantasy elements of the story felt more like an info dump (the fighting monsters, portals, cat who can reshape the house, where wolves, blood etc.). It's this off mix of fantasy but they're also using guns and are bound by physics? I just did not get WHY they even liked each other and got NO sense of who Damien even was aside from his boring monologues. I hate the whole "I have to push her away or she'll get hurt" trope so much and never got a sense of who he was aside from being a rich dragon. Then there's the inconsistencies - they're are random parts in the book where his hair and eye color changes and the whole "blue streak in her hair" thing didn't go anywhere either.
Lastly the smut was just ok and there was no spark.

Billed as a "slow burn sexy paranormal romance" but there was nothing slow about Dragon Called. Sparks flew from the start between nurse Andi and secretive dragon billionaire Damian. Theirs was an action packed, steamy, fast moving, otherworldly adventure with a cliff-hanger tease for more.

Wowza!!!! What an explosive way to start a series! Creepy, high-paying job in the middle of the night and last 8 hrs in a creepy mansion/castle??? Andi say yes and not only dies it pay out but dayum sexy men all around... although only one holds her attention. Damian, Mr. Silent, is the sexy, silent, forbidden type and oh yeah Andi is a little more than intrigued although the job has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more questions than answers! Baddies come in out of the blue... and are blue.... and not only does she excel in making it through without girl-histronics she steps up to the plate and knocks it out the ball park! She is bad-ass in her own way. Damian has a hard time trusting but it's expected for someone whose "other" and even Grim, I think, kinda likes her. Am looking forward to book 2 and learning more about these two and the others in this dance. Am betting on the Uncle Lee shedding some light on this and maybe being involved with the bad guys?? My guess for what it's worth but all the same looking forward to the next story!

He's hot, and their sex is mind-blowing, but both Andi and Damian know they shouldn't swim in these romantic waters, especially with Damian's secret life standing between them. Die Story von Andi und Damian ist von Anfang an sehr spannend Aktionsreich, aber auch Gefühlvoll und erotisch zu gleich. Das knistern und die Anziehung ist spürbar. Andi lässt sich nicht komandieren, und deswegen Fetzen sie sich öfter und das macht Damian und sein Drachen an.
Andi ihre Tante hat das immer behauptet, jedoch keiner wollte ihr glauben. Sie musste es selbst erfahren das Drachen tatsächlich existieren, aber sie plante nicht sich in einen zu verlieben.
Damian wollte ihr Gedächtnis löschen aber tief in seinem und dem Drachen Herzen wusste er, das Andi ihm gehörte.
Ein sehr schöner und lockerer Schreibstil macht das lesen angenehm. Klasse Protas und neben Charaktere. Es ist eine klasse Geschichte und Leseempfehlung.

Audio review for Dragon Called.
Ten thousand is a nice return for one night nursing at a mansion, especially when you need the money to help bailout your scumbag brother, at least that’s what Andi thought when she took on the job. However things got out of hand that night and she’s caught up in a battle not of her choosing with creatures unknown to her and a portal opened that has to be closed.
Damien Blackwood owner of said mansion has several battles on his hands, one being nurse Andi is his mate consequence’s be damned, he will find a way to close the portal, send the creatures back to where they belong and well this story ends with a stalemate, tension is high, sexual and otherwise but Damien won’t give up and won’t jeopardize Andi either. ??????
Victoria Mai does a fantastic job in telling of this heat and tension filled story.

This is book 1 in Lockharte and Alexander's Prince of the Other Worlds series. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to listen to the prequel prior to listening to this one but I think you'd be okay with out it. This is a well written, smooth flowing paranormal romance read with a great balance of an exciting storyline and steamy chemistry! I love our main characters dragon shifter Damian and Andi, overnight hospital nurse. These two could not be further opposites if they tried but somehow their chemistry is spot on. I especially love Damion's character as he is a self proclaimed a-hole but then he has the sweetest moments. Andi is ever inquisitive but while she realizes the chemistry between them, fear or self protection wins out - at least for now...
Looking forward to more as I feel these two are destine. The secondary characters are everything you would want and I adore Andi's roommate. Speaking of - the roommate has a fantastic accept so major kudo's to our narrator who does an excellent job not only with this accent but all around with this multitude of characters. Can't wait to see what's next in this paranormal romance!

This is absolutely the best paranormal book I have read in a very long time! And i is a nurse who needs money to help her brother and takes an assignment as a private duty nurse. If she had only known perhaps she would have stayed home. Damien is a dragon shifter who is the Gatekeeper for the Unearthly Realm. These two in reality should never have met, let alone been attracted to each other. The story was very interesting with excellent world building. The characters, including Grim the cat were impeccable. This is my first read by these two authors and I am definitely looking forward to more. There is a cliffhanger, but instead of being annoyed, I can’t wait for book two in this series. Incredible read!!

Dragon and Human Do Not Mix
Damian comes from a long ling of gate keepers and he has been on earth for a long time protecting it from others trying to encroach from the other dimensions.
Andi is a nurse working her fingers to the bone to keep her brother out of trouble which he does not appreciate. Little did she know taking on a one time night job would change her world.
This book was a little slow for me in the beginning but that did not last I got so caught up in the story I did not put it down till I was done. Now I am waiting for the next book in this series..

Damian comes from a long ling of gate keepers and he has been on earth for a long time protecting it from others trying to encroach from the other dimensions.
Andi is a nurse working her fingers to the bone to keep her brother out of trouble which he does not appreciate. Little did she know taking on a one time night job would change her world.

Damien was a dragon and a guardian of the portals to make sure that nobody came through. But one of his team was attacked by one of the monsters but they had to finish finding the rest that came through. So he had to hire someone to keep Zac alive until they got ack from their mission so he hired Andi a nurse to make sure that he didn’t die. When she was getting ready to leave another one of the monsters was getting ready to attack so Damien had to go dragon on the monster to kill it. Andi wasn’t scared of anything that happened that night, they went on a date and messed around, he told that no more and gave her a hundred dollars treating her like a slut. Andi got a call and had to go to the hospital she operated on Zac and saved him. Damien was raking her home on the way they enjoyed each other again and then she told him that they were done but he knew that they were mates. So another book?

This is Damian and Andi's story . Andi is in one heck of a bind due to her brother and needs cash fast to bail out him out ! After finding an ad online she is now going to be an overnight nurse in a very weird place and once she sees who her boss is she knows to try and just keep quite and do her job . Damian is guarding the gate but danger stalks . Both are attracted to each other and need to learn to deal with their baggage while still helping each other out . Here I just gotta say that cat !! I usually do not read cliffhangers but this is a good one ! This is a well written and recommended story !

Evil realms and dragons!
Andi Ngo is desperate to make enough money to bail her brother out of jail. Her regular nursing job at the hospital isn’t enough so she takes a temp job that comes with a non-disclosure agreement and a “no questions asked” clause with dreamy, billionaire Damian Blackwood. All she has to do is keep her patient alive overnight while her boss is gone and she will get paid enough to get her brother out of jail. It should be a simple enough gig until she sees the extent of the patient’s injuries and strange things begin happening in the mansion. Andi finds herself plunged into a world of dragons and paranormal creatures.
This is a great start to a series. I can't wait to read the next book.

Oh I liked this. Loved the setup and there is a talking cat so...
Damian and Andi are smoking and I enjoyed Andi not being a simpering mess while finding out about dragons and other realms. It was fun.
I did not appreciate the cliffhanger and I'm afraid I can see where the story is going, will read the next one to see if I'm able for an overdose of a trope I don't enjoy!
