Mateo is a sweetheart, Mimi not so much.....
I read Boss Me, starring Mimi's brother and Mateo's cousin, and I loved their island romance. I liked Mimi in that, and initially didn't have a good impression of Mateo but changed my mind by the end so I was looking forward to reading their book. Unfortunately, it wasn't anywhere near as good.
I was pleased that Mimi was going to be the grumpy to Mateo's sunshine because it's usually the other way round but she wasn't just grumpy, she was mean, inconsiderate, and dismissive as well. Mateo was just too good for her.
I loved Mateo, a sweet and sensitive man who everyone underestimated, overlooked or forgot, leading to him feeling as though he wasn't good enough for anything more than hookups. The only one who was in his corner was his aunt Rosa, and I loved her. Even Cooper, his cousin, didn't really tell Mateo how well he thought of him or relied on him, not until a lot later in the book.
I wanted to smack Mimi because she was so mean to Mateo. She treated him badly because of her own issues and her determination to further her career, despite the fact she was a competent accountant but she couldn't (or didn't want to) see what her boss was up to. She was such a brown-noser that it made me feel sick. When she kicked him to the kerb, I wanted to kick her from here to Christmas.
Falling in love with her at first sight, Mateo could trip over air every time he was near Mimi, turning into an accident-prone nightmare, but that just made him more adorable. I wanted to hug him for the way everyone just dismissed him as a lothario with no brains, instead of looking behind the flirty façade to see the sensitive and lonely man that he was. And Mateo and Roger? *hearts in eyes* *sigh*.
Mimi's mother had a lot to answer for, shaping Mimi's vision of a career woman, and I could have done without those mummy issues. I liked seeing Ben and Cooper happy (and Coco too), and Natalie made me smile with her enthusiasm and the friendship she offered Mimi. I just wish that Mimi was a different person because she definitely didn't deserve Mateo.
Mimi gets one star, Mateo gets five, so three stars is a fair reflection overall.

3.5 ⭐️ Not bad for a freebie!
I got this on stuff your kindle day last year, and I have been trying to make my way through all the books I have on my Kindle (an imposible, ever-growing task), and this one caught my eye this week.
It's cute, there are characters speaking in Spanish and not a single time did it make me cringe! So, I think it's safe to say that either the author herself speaks spanish, or has someone trustworthy proofreading the spanish dialogue. It was SUCH a welcome change from other books I've read in the last couple of years!
Now, my main problem with this book (and why I refuse to round up to four stars) is the FMC, Mimi. She's not just indifferent, or cold, but she was actively rude and dismissive of the MMC, Mateo, all based on her own prejudice. And, listen, I love cold women. I don't think women owe smiles and niceties to anyone, ever. I love empowered women, but that is no excuse. She was classist, and for every single thing the Mateo did, she had a criticism, a demeaning comment. But her "boss" for the charity's she volunteers at treats her like dirt under her shoe, and she can't speak up!? She's meek when it matters and mean when someone -aka Mateo- tries to help her at all. And, yes, the guy kind of couldn't catch a break there with some unfortunate incidents, but after a while it just felt like she was using him and his obvious feelings for her.
Mimi was hard to like as an FMC, and Mateo was lovely, really he was... but for all his loveliness, I wish he would've stopped being the one to patch things up, to run after her all the time, and most importantly, I think he should've made Mimi wait, or grovel more. I know! I can hardly believe it myself, but this guy was practically head over heels for her immediately, and she just kept being awful, even after they started being intimate.
There's no OW/OM drama, but it is talked about a few times how much both MCs enjoyed being single and having one-night-stands. Still, they're not with anyone else in the book, even when they're not together. They're both very sexually liberated, which I loved. I'm also pretty sure the whole reason why I picked up this book to begin with last year is because the MMC is bisexual. And yes, there's a very explicit pegging scene. And, yes, i was amazing.
Overall, I definitely don't regret reading it, but I didn't love it. There's just a lot of things that didn't personally work for me, but the ones that did I really, really liked, so I'm having a hard reviewing this book.

Where do I even begin? The only thing likable about this storyline are two characters: Mateo and Ben. The rest was so hard to read. The pace wasn’t bad, but it was boring to me personally. The beginning did a bad job of establishing a connection between the characters and the reader, it just jumped straight into chaos. Mimi was absolutely obnoxious. I could not stand her ass. There was no reason to be rude to the one person that’s nice to her apart from her family. From responding to Mateo in a bitchy tone to blaming him for absolutely everything wrong with her life since she didn’t know how to take accountability. I could not handle her realizing Mateo was her mystery man and immediately losing the bitchy attitude towards him. At least she apologized but girl please… Ben and Cooper were cute but I wanted to see more interactions between them. Lastly, Mateo is a sweet character, but my god did he need to STAND UP! his self-esteem was on the ground buried somewhere b/c why are you letting this girl walk all over you?! I really wanted to like it but it was just not for me AT ALLL.

Still, Mateo refuses to give up, and when a fake dating situation falls in his lap, he grabs at the chance to jog Mimi's memory. His sweet pursuit of the one woman immune to his charm will keep readers of steamy contemporary romances rooting for him despite Mimi's slow turnaround to seeing the real Mateo. Keep a fan handy for the spicy heat level when these two finally hook up!

I can always count on Michelle McCraw for a 5 star book and once again she didn’t let me down with the 5th book in her Synergy series.
Mimi and Mateo may be opposites, she’s a CPA working full time at Synergy plus volunteering at a nonprofit organization that’s near to her heart and Mateo didn’t go to college and works security for his cousin Cooper Fallon owner of Synergy, but they are perfect for each other. At least they would be if Mimi remembered he was the one she met when she was drunk and Mateo had the courage to tell her. When her boss thinks they are a couple Mateo plays along forcing them into fake relationship, at least that’s what Mimi thinks. On their way to a HEA things go from okay, to maybe good, to really falling for one of them, to words said causing everything to go bad, really bad, to one of them taking a chance and the other realizing their true feelings. In other words a fantastic romance story.

A grumpy-sunshine like no other. Mimi is the grump in this one and showed incredible character growth. It's not often we get an unlikeable female character in romance, and I'm here for it. Watching her grow and accept Mateo into her life was oh-so-satisfying to read.
Mateo is the perfect, sweet (if a bit dense) book-boyfriend. McCraw also takes a few more risks with the steam in this one while staying true to her rom-com voice.
Oh, and there's a cat because there's always a cat.

Loved, loved, loved this book!!! Mimi is a no nonsense woman, who wants nothing too serious to interfere with her career. Mateo is an easy going guy you can’t help but like. Their interactions were amusing and angsty. I loved how Mateo likes Mimi but gets super awkward with her. Michelle McCraw does representation right!!!

When I read there was gonna be a himbo hero, I knew I had to read this one. In my opinion there is truly a lack of male MCs with golden retriever energy and an infatuation with a smart and strong heroine. Unfortunately this was not it. In this particular case describing Mateo as a himbo is actually insulting to him, as a main issue for him is that everyone sees him as a lot dumber than he really is, which hurts him continually. Still he was the absolute nicest and sweetest dude and always trying his best. The problem for me wasn't only the misleading description of Mateo (which would be fine if it didn't directly contradict his story arc of trying to be taken more seriously), but the way Mimi treated him. Or just Mimi period. She was so MEAN for no reason. It was completely uncalled for to act so hurtful towards Mateo. Her reasoning that he is nice to everyone and therefore isn't flirting with her or is disingenuous is just... Weird. Like just because someone is a genuinely nice person doesn't mean they are putting on an act. For her to be hurtful on purpose with no real excuse just put me off the story. I wasn't rooting for Mateo and Mimi as a couple, Mateo definitely deserved better. Especially because I was getting some real pick me vibes from Mimi, the way she always had to make sure to emphasize her nerdiness and intellect and how men couldn't handle it and women didn't like her because of it. She definitely had some bad experiences but it's no excuse to be a jerk.
Overall I would have to give this one a pass, just because of Mimi and her unlikability. I also didn't appreciate the "real women have curves and don't look like toothpicks" peppered in there. Body positivity, yes please, but not by putting down one group of women....

I almost DNF. I was so annoyed by this woman and how mean she was to Mateo. I stuck it out, but there’s a part of me that wonders if this is a relationship that will last.

Forget Me had me worried when I noticed it was the fifth in a series and I had not read any of the previous books. However, while it did make me eager to read what all happened before this book, I felt like the characters and their situations were well handled and read well on its own. I understood Mimi, ever when I did not necessarily like her choices and actions at certain points, I could completely understand where she was coming from and how she felt. I loved that she was self aware enough to admit mistakes and deal with the potential fall out like an adult rather than just ignoring it. Mateo was a wonderful character and I loved the dichotomy that he presented in his personality and actions. Strong, suave, and smooth while at the same time as self doubting and self conscious as the rest of us. It reminded me that just about everyone has these kinds of feelings, no matter how the might act and how others perceive them. I loved the level of communication between the characters, and the honesty about the fears of getting close can bring on and how thy handled it in the story. I look forward to going back to read the previous books, and looking forward to the possible future books hinted at in this one.

I was asked by Ms. McCraw to review her latest book in the Synergy series after enjoying Trip Me Up last year. She didn't disappoint.
Mimi is a grumpy accountant focused on a new fulfilling job but run by a backstabbing bitch. Mateo is the charming head of security for his cousin focused on the stubborn woman who forgot their compelling encounter.
After a forgetful night at her best friend's bachelor party, Mimi is plagued by a Mystery Man with glasses who gave her a ring for safekeeping. Who is this kind man who made her laugh and open up about her life? Why is he so important to her? Men are a distraction. Her career is the key to her happiness.
Mateo is enamored with a woman who thinks he is forgettable. Why put himself through her rudeness and disdain? Because on their breakthrough night at the bar, she told him so many things about herself. Yes, his reputation as a player precedes him, but this woman has captured his heart. Now he only had to convince her of that.
I love grumpy/sunshine tropes and Mimi takes the grumpiness to new levels. In fact, I didn't really like how she treated poor Mateo who was only trying to help. Mateo, on the other hand, is adorable. His persistence in trying to awkwardly woo Mimi is endearing. They both have baggage. Mimi with her formidable lawyer mother constantly telling her to work on her career first and let's not forget Mimi's nasty ex who used her for his own personal career gain. Mateo has a fear of not being worthy when his mother left him and his dad, and then Mateo dropped everything to take care of his dying father. The misunderstandings get ahold of the characters in this story, but once they get to know each other and Mimi gets her memory back about that night, the sparks fly and the love story begins.
There are many supporting characters, good and bad, who keep the story moving. Mateo's Aunt Rosa gives good advice and makes delicious food. Mimi's brother, Ben, is so supportive and protective of his sister. And, Larissa, Mimi's "boss", is one nasty bitch who gets her karma, but deserved much more.
I promise you will laugh, cry, and spit nails while watching these two fight their demons and fall in love.

Mateo is enamored with a woman who thinks he is forgettable. Why put himself through her rudeness and disdain? Because on their breakthrough night at the bar, she told him so many things about herself. Yes, his reputation as a player precedes him, but this woman has captured his heart. Now he only had to convince her of that.
I love grumpy/sunshine tropes and Mimi takes the grumpiness to new levels. In fact, I didn't really like how she treated poor Mateo who was only trying to help. Mateo, on the other hand, is adorable. His persistence in trying to awkwardly woo Mimi is endearing. They both have baggage. Mimi with her formidable lawyer mother constantly telling her to work on her career first and let's not forget Mimi's nasty ex who used her for his own personal career gain. Mateo has a fear of not being worthy when his mother left him and his dad, and then Mateo dropped everything to take care of his dying father. The misunderstandings get ahold of the characters in this story, but once they get to know each other and Mimi gets her memory back about that night, the sparks fly and the love story begins.
There are many supporting characters, good and bad, who keep the story moving. Mateo's Aunt Rosa gives good advice and makes delicious food. Mimi's brother, Ben, is so supportive and protective of his sister. And, Larissa, Mimi's "boss", is one nasty bitch who gets her karma, but deserved much more.
I promise you will laugh, cry, and spit nails while watching these two fight their demons and fall in love.

Miriam (Mimi) is extremely driven and very passionate about moving forward in her career. She's an accountant but wants to move into the non-profit sector. Not only for personal success - but to help neurodivergent kids. She's been volunteering as a financial manager for a foundation - and recently started helping to plan their large fundraising gala. She does not have room in her life for more than a one-night stand. At her best friend's bachelorette party she meets (and forgets) a man who made her feel like she had found everything she was looking for.
Mateo is the cousin of Mimi's brother's fiance. He is sweet, very good looking and a natural caretaker. He doesn't have a college education and is pretty much the opposite of career driven. But he is a very good person. His entire life - folks have underestimated him and clearly have taken advantage of his sweet caring nature. He's clearly been in love with Mimi since the first time he met her - but hasn't been able to function well around her because he is so lovestruck. So every time they meet - things are a bit of a disaster. It doesn't help that Mimi is kind of a jerk to him and really judges him unfairly.
This, unfortunately, maybe led to me not liking the book as much as I could have. The main issue - I just didn't like Mimi very much. Even though she does let Mateo in - I just never felt an emotional connection with her. She seemed cold and the relationship between her and Mateo seemed very unbalanced.
That being said, I adored the LGTBQ representation in this book - and the supporting cast of characters were all well written. Mateo being bisexual really made so much sense with his character.
Overall - this was a good read - but wasn't great for me.

Creo que el libro ronda entre las 3 y 3,5 estrellas. La realidad es que me gustó mucho, se me hizo muy entretenido y me resultaba casi imposible dejar de leer. Sin embargo, porque en esta vida siempre hay un pero de por medio, no me terminó de gustar la forma en la que Mimi trató a Mateo en ciertos momentos. En parte puedo entender su forma de pensar: lo difícil que es ser una mujer en el mundo laboral y los desafíos que eso conlleva, la necesidad de destacar sobre todo y no dejar que nada ni nadie se interponga en tus metas. Aún así, siento que terminaba siendo un tanto egoísta. Si bien ella había tenido una mala experiencia en el amor que casi le juega su carrera, se sujetó a ese miedo y terminó lastimando a Mateo que tampoco tuvo una historia de vida muy simple. Ambos estaban heridos, él pensaba que merecía ser lastimado y Mimi, en un principio, no hizo nada para que él no se sintiera olvidable. De todas formas, los problemas logran solucionarse como en toda buena comedia romántica, enfrentando temores en nombre del amor. Y, a pesar de lo que mencioné antes, la relación de nuestros protagonistas me robó varias sonrisas. Mateo me pareció una persona súper dulce, siempre dispuesto a ayudar a sus seres queridos. Definitivamente su love language es actos de servicio.

The story wasn’t for me. I was bored and skipped a lot after 60% in the book.
The pace was good at first but at 50% it slowed a lot. The end was rushed. The book didn’t need 300 pages.
The sex scenes were awkward, and I cringed a lot.
The characters were okay. I really liked Mateo. He gave me a lot of Golden Retriever vibes.
He was a good guy and Mimi didn’t deserve him. She had no reason to be this mean and hurtful to Mateo.
Mimi was so rude to him and blamed Mateo for so much. I mean accidents do happen.
Sometimes she blamed him for something she did, and I hated that so much. He didn’t deserve it. Also, I hated that he was just nice to people, and she judged him and thought he was flirting. He was just nice!!!
Mimi gave me “pick me”-vibes. She always made sure everyone knew she is a nerd, and it gave me “I am better than everyone else” vibes. It also got on my nerves that Mimi always thought that everyone thought that she was a nerd and automatically thought less of her.
I would have liked to see more of her friendship with her best friend.
I liked the representation in this book. The male love interest is bi. Which you see rarely in books. And Mimi’s brother is gay and is in a healthy relationship.
Her best friend has Tourette. I liked that Mimi works for charity and it is her passion.
Conclusion:
Sadly, I didn’t felt the connection between this characters so I gave this book a pass.
But I will read more from Michelle McCraw.

Mimi doesn’t remember the night that she kissed Mateo, but he can’t forget it. When she wakes up the next day, all she can remember is a gorgeous guy in glasses, but she has no number or photo to remember him by. Mateo has never struggled to be the cool guy, yet when he is around Mimi, he always seems to say or do the wrong thing. So when it comes time to put on the charm for her boss, at a charity foundation, for which she acts as accountant, Mateo makes out that they are an item. So their fake relationship begins, until it is no longer fake.
I was really surprised to find that this was part of a series Synergy Workplace Romance, and it is a stand-alone book. These two main characters are interesting together with Mimi filled with self doubt whilst Mateo, constantly trying to bring out her positive side. He was an absolute delight and at times, I wished that Mimi could see his strength in character. Her lack of confidence was quite destructive and without revealing the storyline, a central component of her relationship with Mateo. Mimi gets one star, Mateo gets five, so three stars is a fair reflection overall. There are many secondary characters which add to the complexity of this story, which reveals why the characters of Mateo and Mimi are the way they are.

I didn’t like Mimi at all. I wanted to like her. But, for the first half of the book, she is a total bitch to Mateo for absolutely no reason, and when she says sorry (it didn��t feel all that sincere, and she doesn’t do shit to make it up to him at all) she proceeds to use him for a good chunk of the book (it felt that way to me). Mateo deserved so much better than this obnoxious woman. I don’t understand what he saw in her. Most of the characters didn’t even like her, his aunt said more than once she was rude and stuck up (and she fucking was). For all the talk about her intelligence she came out pretty dumb, and all that “attention to detail” we’re told she has was completely absent because she misses very obvious, rather big, details all the time. And she takes every opportunity she gets to shove how nerdy and geeky she is on people’s faces. She blames Mateo for a lot of things that were either HER fault, or accidents, and I just wanted him to find someone else as Cooper advised when they broke up. I read the first book in this series, and I liked the uplifting, wholesome relationship between Jackson and Alice; I expected something similar here, but it can’t be further from that. I hated the way she put him down every chance she got. Not only her, but Cooper, too (for most of the book, anyway). Only his aunt seemed to treat him like he deserved.

Although this is the fifth book in the Synergy Workplace Romance series, you don't need to have read the others, I haven't. This book tells the story of Mimi and Mateo.
Mateo is a real sweetheart, he doesn't really see his own value and can't really see why someone like Mimi would be interested in him. Mini is more interested in her career and working her way to the job she wants by volunteering.
I really liked Mateo, but Mimi was less appealing. To be honest, I'm not sure that she deserved him. The romance was ok, but she spent too long going back and forth between whether they should be together or not. I also got a bit confused about who some of the other characters were. It may have made more sense to people who had read some of the other books, but Mateo's cousin seemed to have a different name, depending on who was talking about him. While reading this romance, I found it easy to root for Mimi and Mateo--two people have spent much of their life being underestimated by those around them. Mimi is trying to forge a new career path by volunteering for a charitable organization, but her toxic supervisor undermines her at every turn. Mateo is so easy-going and flirtatious that a lot of people fail to see that there’s more to him than rippling muscles and a killer smile. Right from the start, we know these two are meant to end up together, but Mimi’s been burned before. After the way her last ex sabotaged her career, she’d rather put up defensive walls than let anyone get close to her. To make matters worse, Mateo’s attempts to help her often backfire. But as the two of them work together to pull off a charity gala, their chemistry ignites—to the point where they can’t ignore their connection. Like any good romance, there are plenty of twists and turns along the way. A delightful mix of humor and steam, Forget Me is another great addition to the Synergy series.

Fun Twist on the Grumpy/Sunshine Trope!
This book is part of a series, and although some of the characters do repeat it can definitely be read as a standalone. I liked the twist on the "grumpy hero" because in this case it is Mimi who is the career driven "grumpy" hero who will not let "sunshiny" Matteo in. I admit I initially did not like Mimi or her treatment of Matteo or what she put up with at her "volunteer" job, but once I kept reading and got to know her back story and understood her motivations I liked her more. She was also willing to listen to friends and family and grow and change and she definitely had wonderful and fun moments when she let loose with Matteo. He was just fun and wonderful (and adorably clumsy when trying to impress Mimi) so I was cheering for him the entire book. It was another enjoyable read from this author and I look forward to the next one!

Mateo and Mimi 4.5⭐️
Michelle McCraw has definitely packed all the feels into this one! I laughed, swooned and debated throwing my ereader more than once, but I loved seeing Mimi and Mateo finally get their happily ever after.
“Flirt? Wait until I show you my smolder.”
Mateo has such a tender and caring heart. He’s attentive and sensual and oh my does he bring the heat! Their connection is smoking hot and so very spicy.
I think that the most striking piece of this story is that the author does not sugarcoat either character’s insecurities. So often we see shallow feelings get a quick wrap up (and we love that too) but the ones portrayed for Mimi and Mateo were both honest and relatable.
It was so rewarding to see their confidence grow separately and with each other throughout the story. They gave me all the emotions but the ending was definitely worth the ride!

I downloaded this book on 'stuff your Kindle' day. Mostly because the cover looked cute. I am so happy that I did, because this one was amazing!
A soft love story, realistic and absolutely one that will get on your nerves (in a good way). It's so easy to band with the characters, which made me yell at them sometimes. They are adorable and I just really wanted them to stop acting the way they did. Really loved how interactive the writing felt and how I, as a reader, felt as part of the story.
Also, somehow, I kind of liked the villain in this story to be some sort of 'secret'. I never expected this character to be the way he/she turned out to be. Like, I call it a villain but maybe it's not the right word. I simply made her the villain because, oh well, I hated him/her for what he/she did. (Will not spoil a thing.)

Mateo deserved so much better...
He was super nice, sweet, and cute, but Mimi was straight-up rude. I like it when FMC are cold or not that accessible, but there was absolutely no reason at all for Mimi’s shitty behaviour towards Mateo.
It really got on my nerves how she even blamed him for things that were her own fault.
Also, she’s supposed to be this smart woman with great attention to detail, yet she’s so blind she can’t see what Larissa is doing right in front of her eyes for most of this book.
I liked Mateo and Mimi’s relationship when they were on good terms, but even though I knew it wasn’t going to happen, I was rooting for Mateo to find someone else who would treat him with the respect he deserves.

Mateo stole my whole heart! I absolutely love this twist on the grumpy sunshine trope. Mimi is wounded and works hard to keep everyone at arm's length. She doesn't see Mateo as anything other than the cousin of her brother's fiancé, and a complete flirt. Mimi has no recollection of the night she spent getting to know the real Mateo, and this hurts him deeply. Mateo is a total cinnamon roll, and Mimi is rather mean to him at first and at times she takes it a bit too far. I love the persistence Mateo shows, and how Ben helps Mateo get past Mimi's walls. And once Mimi gives in, she realizes that there's more to life to strive for than her career and that what's been missing the whole time has been Mateo.
