Moonlight and Mischief is the first book in the spell-tacular paranormal cozy mystery series, Mysteries of Moonlight Manor. If you like snarky heroines, quaint locations, and clever cats, then you'll love Molly Fitz and Trixie Silvertale’s haunted hijinks.
Molly Fitz is the quirky, cozy mystery pen name of USA Today bestselling author, Melissa Storm. And while she can't technically talk to animals, she and her doggie best friend, Sky Princess, have deep and very animated conversations as they navigate their days. Add to that, five more dogs, a snarky feline, comedian husband, and diva daughter, and you can pretty much imagine how life looks in the Casa de Fitz.
Molly lives in a house on a high hill in the Michigan woods and occasionally ventures out for good food, great coffee, or to meet new animal friends.
Sydney broke up with her boss/boyfriend and lost her livelihood all in one swoop. She decided to find a place she could afford and to start her life over again.
Sydney purchased Moonlight Manor, a beautiful mansion from a different era, fully furnished and for just the right price. The hope was a destination bed and breakfast. The reality was ghosts and a 90 year old mystery.
This book started so bad that I barely managed to stop myself from a dnf. The descriptions of the main character were tacky and poorly drawn, although I understood what the author was aiming for. Turned out to be a not bad cozy mystery. I gave it 3 1/2 stars rounded down to 3 for predictability and the poor story telling at the beginning.
Moonlight and Mischief is the first book in the Mysteries of Moonlight Manor series. The main character in all three books, Sydney Coleman, needs a fresh start after being fired and dumped by her boss/boyfriend. She wants to get out of New York City, but doesn't want to return to her hometown in Iowa. Sydney decides to buy a huge old house in Misty Meadows, Maine to turn into a bed and breakfast. However, Sydney didn't know that along with the beautiful architecture and antique furnishings, the house also came with ghosts! The two human and one feline ghosts insist that Sydney solve the case of their murdered mistress before accepting any guests. If Sydney wants her Bed and Breakfast to have a chance at being a success, she needs to solve this very cold case.
I really enjoyed the cute, fast-paced story and liked getting to know Sydney and the three spirits living in the house. The first part of the book is about the changes in Sydney's life and the preparations she is making for her new business, and the sleuthing comes later in the book. Once Sydney commits to investigating the death of the former mistress of the house, she proves herself to be a clever amateur sleuth. It was a nice change from many cozy series to have the local sheriff, Haley Allen, be so cooperative when Sydney presents her findings.
Another standout character in the book is Sydney's new friend, Frannie Clark, who runs the local bakery. She is kind and quickly becomes a good friend to newcomer, Sydney. I enjoyed the book and would rate it 4.5 stars. I will be reading the next two books as soon as possible so I can find out what's in store for Sydney and her new friends in Misty Meadows.
I received a copy of this ebook from the author at no cost, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
I am absolutely in love with this new series. I feel like a lot of us have been in Sydney’s shoes at various points in our lives: adrift, searching for new meaning, trying to be the tough girl in spite of being raised to be “nice”. There was a lot in Sydney’s situation I could relate to. However, her spectral roommates are not part of my personal experience, but they just might be the best parts of her story. The townsfolk are quirky, the mystery was intriguing, and the cat is as snooty and sarcastic as I expect any talking feline worth his whiskers to be. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
Moonlight and Mischief was a delight to read! It's the first book in a new series and I already want more, more, more. Sydney went through some major turmoil. She took that as the opportunity to start over, (okay maybe she was out of options). She buys a home and decides to open a B&B. All looks fine except for a snarky cat, Sir Bogart and two ghosts, Velma and Norman who demand She solve a decades old murder. I absolutely adore Sir Bogart! The story, in my opinion, is character driven. The mystery was solved in this book. There isn't romance. Sydney doesn't appear desperate for it either despite there being potential suitors introduced. I liked that a lot. I've noticed a rush to hook up the main character with a guy, preferably law enforcement, in a great many series. I enjoyed the fact that the authors are giving her a moment to breathe. I'm excited for this new series.
"The house seemed to have a mind of its own, but I was determined to prove that I was stronger than any rumors, superstitions, or ghost stories."
This, in true Molly Fitz/ Trixie Silvertale fashion is a great story. Sydney,a high end advertising influencer, gets dumped and fired by her boyfriend and winds up finding herself in Maine trying to rebuild her life as an innkeeper. However, it seems there are some strange goings on that could end that idea fast!
I loved Molly Fitz': Pet Whisperer PI series and read anything I can that she has written. This first in a series could be a tempting addition to your collection . Highly Recommended 5/5
When Sydney is unceremoniously dumped both in her love life and her job she need a fresh start. She finds one at Moonlight Manor as both a place to live and as a bed and breakfast. Things down go accordingly to plan when three ghost show up in the form of a cat, the cook and the butler. It seems their former mistress was murdered and they need Sydney to clear her name so they can all all be free
The beginning of a wonderful, page turning series you just can't put down once you begin! We are introduced in the beginning to a power couple, Lucas Aconite, the owner of a legendary company called Aconite and Sydney Coleman who was a farm girl who worked her way to the top of the company and into the heart of her boss. And when he arranged a meeting at a very posh restaurant, she knew it was to propose. But when she caught him sweet-talking to someone on the phone and saying he would be firing Sydney at the meeting, she couldn't believe it! It seconds, she was fired and given 2 weeks to leave their apartment. Looking for a place to live was next to impossible, especially in the city so she had to look elsewhere. When she found a place Called Moonlight Manor with a price she could afford to buy, she got in touch with the real estate agent, Mia and made the deal. Little did she know this mansion had a history and came complete with 3 ghosts, a maid, a butler and a talking cat. Now the excitement begins when trying to turn the mansion into a bed and breakfast, things go downhill. It seems an old murder that was called as suicide was not that and the 3 ghosts implored Sydney to help find that it was a murder and who did it so their former mistress, Beatrix and the 3 ghosts can cross over. With so many things happening and meeting her now best friend, who was helping her get her feet under her, there is so many threads to this mystery as well as trying to get her mansion making money so she can survive there you just can't put this book down once you begin! I highly recommend this book and the series that will undoubtedly will follow! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
I love the adventure of starting a new series and this is one that I’ll definitely be following. Moonlight and Mischief is funny, and charming, with a touch of snark, lots of chuckles, and a mystery to be solved. Oh, and one old haunted home that is ruled over by Sir Bogart the resident ghost cat with so much to say for himself.
Sydney thought she was at the top of her world with a job she loved, and a wealthy, powerful man about to pop the question, or so she thought until that world came crashing down around her with one conversation. Now Sydney is heading out of New York City to a small town in Maine where she’s about to have her life even further turned around when she buys a mansion at an unbelievable price. The mansion comes by its reputation of being a spooky spot quite naturally with the three ghosts living within. Sydney’s bed and breakfast idea might have just died a quick death with no hope of recovery unless she can solve a murder that took place here years ago.
The writing is smooth, the plot intriguing, and the characters just leap off of the pages. I loved the secondary characters and how they fit into Sydney’s new life and I’m sure we’ll get to know them better as the series continues. Moonlight and Mischief is one of those tales that you’ll quickly get wrapped up in and that you’ll want to continue beyond the final page. I had fun here and want to know what happens to everyone next in Moonlight and Magic. If you love a good, solid Paranormal Cozy Mystery then you’ll want to get started on this series soon.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or author’s team via Booksprout. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.*
Sydney thought she had everything… the perfect job, the perfect guy, and was expecting the perfect marriage proposal later that day. Instead, said boyfriend dumped her, fired her, and gave her two weeks to move out of his apartment or find herself on the street. Given that they were living in New York, that was a pretty much impossible task. But after a long, ever expanding search, she came across an estate for sale that appeared to be entirely in her budget. It wasn't until after she'd bought it with the intent of turning it into a Bed & Breakfast that she learned why such an amazing property was so affordable.
The manor was haunted by several ghosts who needed her to solve the mystery of an old murder so that they could set the victim's ghost free from a tormented existence stuck between planes of existence. But with it having happened so very long ago, how can Sydney possibly solve it considering that anyone and everyone involved was long dead. And what will happen to her Bed and Breakfast if she can't solve the murder?
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were entertaining as well as often surprising. Sydney is clearly a strong woman determined to make a fresh start of her life rather than someone who is content to wallow in misery when what she was expecting in her life falls apart.
I would recommend giving this book a try. I have read and enjoyed other series of books by each of these authors and very definitely enjoyed this team up between them. I'm very much looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here and would recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed books by either Ms. Fitz or Ms. Silvertale. Also, anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist, especially one involving cats.
Expecting a marriage proposal from her boyfriend-boss Lucas Aconite, Sydney Coleman was crushed when she overheard him on the phone with a woman and telling the “babe” he was going to fire Syd and then they could get on with their relationship. Humiliated, Sydney heads to Maine for a new start and purchases an old mansion to convert into a bed and breakfast.
Sydney meets a ghostly cat named Sir Bogart. And he introduces her to Velma (the former cook) and Norman (butler and confidant), the resident ghosts who will be assisting her in solving the murder of their mistress, Beatrix de Haviland, before they will give Sydney any peace. Beatrix’s death was ruled a suicide, but the ghosts insist she was murdered. Sydney explained that she is a marketing expert, not a detective, but since Norman knows all of the mistress’ secrets, Sir Bogart assures her his assistance will be invaluable to her. She doesn’t have a choice really because, if she can’t rent her rooms, she won’t be able to earn the money she needs to get by on! And until the mystery is solved, the murdered mistress keeps sending nightmares to Sydney. When they finally think they have an answer, they think they can go no further. But Beatrix needs her name cleared of suicide or she can’t pass on. They must find proof to reclassify the cause of her death to homicide. But how?
You will love meeting Sir Bogart! He’s a real “take charge” kitty! Will Sydney be able to get proof of who murdered Beatrix? Unless she can do so, her B&B will remain closed. She will lose everything, and fail her ghostly companions.
MOONLIGHT AND MISCHIEF is the first installment in Molly Fitz and Trixie Silvertale’s Mysteries of Moonlight Manor series. These two authors have done a great job creating this fun and entertaining haunted manor mystery series. I was drawn in from the beginning and hooked until the end.
Sydney Coleman had it all— until it was all gone, boyfriend, great job, friends - Poof. Leaving New York behind, she bought a home in a small town in Maine. With her social media marketing skills she plans to turn the historic manor into a B&B. New town, new profession, new life. But but the powers that be aren’t quite finished with her. No one told her the manor was haunted. There is a trio of ghosts that oppose her turning the manor into a B&B. They want all her efforts focused on solving the seventy year old murder of their mistress and they also let her know that she better not open a B&B, or else. Then the first guest's visits goes awry and the review is devastating - all future reservations are quickly canceled. If she can’t book some guests fast, her B&B mansion is utterly doomed, and the ghosts don't like that either.
If you like mysteries, snarky heroines, entitled felines, and friends then you'll love Molly Fitz and Trixie Silvertale’s haunted hijinks at Moonlight Manor. I am looking forward to more of those hijinks from Sydney, Bogart and friends.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a good start to a new series. Although the mystery doesn't get going until near the end (about 70% into the story) and it is mainly setting up the scene and getting to know the wonderful characters. A mystery fan at heart I usually prefer that the author stick to the mystery but I actually enjoyed it and can't wait to get stuck into the next book. I liked the characters, especially the ghosts which also included a talking cat. The mystery was slow to start and easily solved but as it is co written by two great authors I am sure that will only get better as the series develops. Instead of getting the marriage proposal she thought she was getting, Sydney loses her job, her boyfriend and her home. Determined to prove she can make it on her own, she finds a mansion in her budget that she can turn into a bed and breakfast. The problem is the reason it is in her budget is because it is haunted. The mistress of the house committed suicide and her loyal cat and two employees think she was murdered and haunt the house trying to find somebody who will help them prove her innocence. Sydney just wants to make enough money to keep a roof over her head. The only way the ghost will stop scaring away her guest is it she will help. Can she find out what happened that fateful night? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another fun cozy for those who love mysteries, cats, and haunted houses. I absolutely loved it!
Thrown out by her cheating boyfriend, Sydney Coleman is desperate to find an affordable residence. She comes upon a listing for Moonlight Manor, and it seems to be too good to be true. Thinking it would be ideal for a B&B, she buys it and gets more than she expected – two human ghosts and Sir Bogart, a clever feline ghost. The death of their mistress decades ago was ruled a suicide, but Norman, Velma, and “Bogey” are certain she was murdered. They have remained in the house hoping someone will discover the truth of her death. Furthermore, they are opposed to her opening a B&B. They are insistent that she solve the case of the death of their mistress. Can the mystery be solved before Sydney loses the house she just bought?
The authors introduce the readers to some interesting and entertaining town residents whom I am sure we will get to know better in future books in this series.
A quick read. I was immediately drawn into the beautifully written story, especially by Bogey, and found it hard to put down until I reached the end. I am looking forward to future escapades with Sydney and her ghostly crew.
I received an advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed here are my own.
Sydney Coleman thought she was getting a proposal from her rich boyfriend Lucas Aconite, but instead she got dumped and ended up losing her prestigious job, so called friends, her home and her city. She decided to take the plunge and buy her own B&B away from the city. However moonlight manor was haunted by the ghosts who had remained stuck in the manor after their beloved owner's death had been wrongfully declared a suicide. Sir Bogart, Norman and Velma, the ghost cat, butler and cook wanted to clear Beatrix de Haviland's name to put her to rest, but none of the people who came to view the house stayed long enough to help them. Till Sydney arrived and bought the manor and was damned if she would give it up because of it's ghosts. She set out to help them unravel the murder mystery and they in turn helped her turn her venture into a success even though it was not what she had intended. I absolutely enjoyed reading this cosy mystery, the first in this new series and I look forward in reading further escapades by our trusty heroine and her ghost support crew! I really love Bogart.
Sydney Coleman was thinking she was about to get proposed to but when she went downstairs, she overheard her boyfriend on the phone and knew he was cheating on her as well as that he was planning on firing her. With her tail between her legs, she tried to find a place to live on the meager amount of money she had. She found the Moonlight Manor in Maine at a price she couldn’t believe. Turns out it was haunted and that no one would purchase it. She did with plans to turn it into a bed and breakfast. When the three ghosts appeared, it sent her first boarders running and with the review the others all cancelled. All the ghosts wanted was to clear their mistress so she could pass on. She was believed to have committed suicide, so Sydney worked with their aid to prove it was murder. This is the first in a series of three. I am ready to see what happens next. The support of the friends she had in town, especially Franny, was great to see develop.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a fun story. Sydney has been dumped by the man she thought she loved, moves to a huge mansion in a small town in Maine to open a. B&B, and gets haunted by four ghosts. I loved the ghosts - the cook, the butler, and the cat - and loved that they could actually do things, like the cook making meals and the butler unpacking luggage. They enlist her aid in finding out who murdered their mistress decades ago.
While I really enjoyed the read and the interaction with the ghosts, I was a little disappointed with the ending. Yes, there are suspects—two in particular—but there’s nothing definitive. It’s assumed—though enough evidence for the victim to move on.
I did love that the cat and two servants opt to stay on to help Sydney in her venture and there are definitely more books to come in this series. I just hope the following ones are more exacting on the whodunnit part of the story.
Recommended.

If this book is any indication (and I'm sure it is), these two authors make a great team for writing paranormal cozy mysteries.
Getting fired, having your boyfriend break up with you, or getting kicked out of your home is never any fun but all three happen to Sydney Coleman at once. And, if that's not bad enough, the manor house which she bought to start a B&B is haunted by the ghosts of the butler, the cook, a snarky, spoiled cat, and the previous owner.
Sydney decides to accept the ghosts as part of her new life but when the B&B's first customers are scared off by the previous owner's ghost, she realizes she must solve the mystery of the owner's death so she will move along and take the others with her.
Its a wonderful first book in what promises to be a fun series. Start reading now so you stay caught up. The only problem you'll have is the waiting periods between each book release.

I really enjoyed this book. The "paranormal" part was really 3 ghosts - one feline, the butler, and the cook. The story had interesting characters, an unusual plot, and a fascinating old mansion. As soon as I finished this book I went to Amazon and bought the books to finish this series. I highly recommend this book!
Amazon synopsis: Sydney Coleman has it all—until she doesn’t. Fate turns her world upside down and sends her running to a tiny town in Maine. She hopes to make the best of her fresh start, but the powers that be aren’t quite finished…
No sooner does she launch her bed and breakfast, than a trio of ghosts oppose her at every turn. They insist she solve the murder of their mistress, but Sydney is desperate for cash. If she can’t book some guests fast, her haunted mansion is utterly doomed.
Will Sydney solve the murder and save the manor, or will the mansion claim another life?
This one took me a bit to get into. I really didn't like Sydney's character in the first few chapters. She seemed extremely self-absorbed and delusional. Granted, I didn't like her boyfriend either so there was that. As the story progressed, she grew out of the self-absorption but was still not really a character I connected with. The ghosts were difficult and helpful on a rotating basis. There was almost a feeling of urgency to help the previous Mistress, but it sort of fell flat. The first visitors for the B&B were too awful to believe and not handled well at all. I guess just Sydney's lack of experience with the B&B setting had something to do with it? Just a lot of misses for me. I think it has promise so I'll probably read book 2 to see if things even out a bit. No real romance in Book 1, just a few hints that Davis has potential in the future. I was definitely ok with her waiting based on what happened and what she needs to accomplish in her new setting.
I loved the way the book started and then the change of direction the protagonist took. One minute Sydney is living the high life and then it all comes crashing down. Soon to be homeless and jobless she begins a desperate search for somewhere to live.
The small town she goes to has a familiar ring to it, friendly, neighbourly folk and a mansion within her price range, what's the catch? All is quickly revealed as the unexpected residents make themselves known! My only fear at this point was will this fast become an over-the-top storyline? Things settled down and we got to know the townsfolk which gives it all a nice balance.
The mystery hits us later in the book, not a complicated whodunnit, more of a side feature. A good start to the series and I'm about to read the next book.
Fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend, Sydney searches for a new start and jumps into the idea of owning a b&b in an old mansion full of antiques in Misty Meadows Maine. The house is beautiful but full of more than antiques... it comes with ghosts. Two former employees and the former pet cat of a past resident refuse to leave or let Sydney run a nice quiet business unless she helps them solve the mysterious death of the former homeowner. Now Sydney must attempt to solve a cold case of murder to get her life back on track.
A cute tale with quirky characters, both live and ghostly. The bossy ghost cat kind of steals the show at times. Over all this was a fun easy read and an enjoyable start to a new series.
4stars goodreads I received this book free from Booksprout and am providing a fair and honest review
Sydney Coleman's life has taken a turn for the worse and she's decided she has to leave New York. She finds a mansion in a small town in Maine and buys it planning on turning it into a Bed and Breakfast. But the three resident ghosts have other ideas as they want her to solve a decades old murder mystery.
I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout, and this is my honest, unbiased review. I love both Molly Fitz and Trixie Silvertale, and was very intrigued by them writing something together. The book's well-written with wonderful and fun characters. I was drawn into this captivating and magical story from the first chapter and kept hooked as I read it in one sitting. I'm very eager to read the rest of the series.
I really enjoyed reading this book. A sign of a good book is if you can put yourself in the main character's situation, and I certainly did.
Sydney is an extremely likeable character. I found myself rooting for her throughout the book. After finding herself on the outside in her last relationship, Sydney is looking for a fresh start when she buys a mansion to turn it into a bed and breakfast inn. She later finds out that it is haunted.
She put in charge of solving the long ago murder of the previous mistress of the house by three interfering ghosts. I still have a major question that wasn't answered at the end of the book. Maybe this question will be answered in the next book of the series
Moonlight and Mischief was a cutesy, and super quick read. I loved the idea of moving to Maine and taking over a gorgeous, abandoned mansion to turn it into a bed and breakfast— literally my dream. The mansion sounded ideal, and the author made it easy to picture this beautiful, gothic, and slightly eerie place filled with secret passages.
And of course, if there are going to be ghosts, they have to be sweet and thoughtful, right? I loved that the paranormal aspect wasn’t scary but more like an added charm.
The mystery was very light and fast-paced, reminding me of the old Nancy Drew books I used to read in high school. It had that same fun, adventurous vibe. Overall, it was a cute and enjoyable read as I go through my fall-TBR list!
A fabulous new collaborative series by one of my all time favorite authors, Trixie Silvertale, and an exiting, new to me author, Molly Fitz. I had no idea what to expect but the result of this collaboration is truly magical.
After a disastrous upheaval in what Sydney thought was her dream life in New York, she found herself in the small Maine town of Misty Meadows. An extensive search had resulted in finding the only available property she could afford, a Gothic mansion.
Even having been on the market so long and a huge price reduction, Sydney did have to wonder if there was a hidden catch to the deal. What she got was far more than she ever would have imagined.
This is my first time to read this author. I received an ARC of this story and I am leaving my review voluntarily (and honestly!) I absolutely loved this book! I was drawn in right away and I read and read until I was done. I really enjoyed the setting, I liked the description of the mansion and felt like I was exploring it myself. The ppl and the non-ppl (lol) we're very well fleshed out and described. I especially loved the cat in this book. Very regal. All in all the mystery was quite well done and also solved nicely. I liked this book a lot and I will be reading the next in the series. I highly recommend this book.
Moonlight & Mischief is book #1 in the Mysteries of Moonlight Manor series by Molly Fitz and Trixie Silvertale.
Sydney Coleman’s world crumbles and leaves her alone without a home or job. She finds a new home in Maine and then things get really interesting.
This is a great start to an enjoyable series. Things in her life are horrible and then things turn around and are too good to be true. I felt so sorry for Sir Bogart and how he missed his mistress. It was an entertaining, light mystery. I can’t wait to see how Sydney’s Plan B turns out!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Moonlight and Mischief is a fantastic start to the Mysteries of Moonlight Manor series. Sydney's story was so good - I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it in one sitting! Sydney Coleman is an excellent protagonist - she is a transplant to a small Maine town after an epic career fail in Manhattan. With the last of her money, she buys Moonlight Manor with a plan to open a B&B. Sydney's plans go sideways when she meets the three resident ghosts of the manor and learns that she isn't going to be doing anything until she helps them solve the previous owner's murder. The twists and turns in the story were tons of fun, and Bogart the ghost cat is an absolute hoot!
