In July of 2016 a plague swept the world, and the civilization collapsed and fell. For a lone National Guard sergeant, a veteran of the wars overseas who had settled down to a new life, the nightmare began on a hot summer evening at the barricades. Orders and chaos, gunfire and being overrun, his unit dwindles away in the face of the infected.
Months later, living in the ruins, the thud of helicopter rotors followed by a crash and the rescue of a downed pilot leads Nick Agostine back into the arms of the US military. From his experience comes the idea of teams, military and civilians experienced in dealing with the undead and barbarism of the wilds. The first Irregular Scout Team leads the way for Task Force Liberty to advance down the Mohawk Valley in Upstate NY, making contact with survivors and clearing out the infected with stealth and firepower.
This is a remastering of the best selling Zombie Killers series, combining the 2017 Dragon Awards finalist "Falling" with book 11, "Patient Zero", placing the story in proper chronological order and connecting the stories together.
J.F. Holmes is a retired Army Senior Noncomissioned Officer, having served for 22 years in both the Regular Army and Army National Guard. During that time, he served as everything from an artillery section leader to a member of a Division level planning staff, with tours in Cuba and Iraq, as well as responding to the terrorists attacks in NYC on 9-11.
From 2010 to 2014 he wrote the immensely popular military cartoon strip, "Power Point Ranger", poking fun at military life in the tradition of Beetle Bailey and Willy & Joe.
His books range from Military Sci-Fi to Space Opera to Detective to Fantasy, with a lot in between, and in 2017 two are finalists for the prestigious Dragon Awards. As of August 2017, Mr. Holmes has eighteen books and two novellas published.

This is transformers if Michael Bay had some questionable views on black, Muslim, Native American and Serbian people (raaaaa balkans mentioned) and was about zombies. It is certainly fun at times but it’s rather fantastical about the effectiveness of the US Military and some of the politics are too blatant and banal to be excused with some of the exciting action sequences. Very transformers.
In a literary landscape of cloned zombie novels this one stands almost alone. I hold it up with World War Z for consistency and included details. I lived in areas of New York the book occupied so that helped hold my attention. The acronyms wore me out and I stopped trying to look up each one but the intent came through. The plot wasn’t overburdened with the seemingly obligatory sex, that was refreshing.
Excellent, I perticulary liked the early dealings and hardships of the initial outbreak, different from the other zombie books I've read other than one other by Gries. The thin Dead Line. Hoping for a sequel volumn 2 and 3. Its this happening ??????????
Read this book when it was just short stories. I like that the author wrote it into a book. Can't wait to read the next books. I had grown up in the Hudson Valley. I know the areas in the book. Newburgh, Kingston, Albany were where I grew up.
Irregular Scout Team 1 is rivetting. It starts out with a bang and the momemton pulls you on an intense a d razy ride. The characters get you hpoked. They are funny and brave and so so human. I can't wait to read the second boook in this seres. It is enthralling.
This is a very well written series of stories. I had to stop reading, unfortunately, due to it triggering my ptsd. It's probably too close to how it would go down. Well done
Loved it. Stories put together in order makes it a lot easier for first timers to understand. Hell, made it easier for me, and this was my 3rd or 4th go round. Excellent job Mr. Holmes!
Fast paced enjoyable, and this compilation makes more sense the way the author put it together. Great characters, you laugh, you cry, very good series very good volume.
I was hooked from the start of this book.I have not read many books where the military actually last in the Zombie outbreaks. Great main characters and a great story. Love it and definitely continuing the series.
Another fun entry into the Zombie genre, but don't let be fooled; this one is worth your time. Nick and his team have the poop stick by the wrong end, but get the mission done.
Nick is one of the most believable and real soldiers I've read in a long time.
Holy Smokes that was great. I love the functionality of the zombies, and how this started. I love the team, the relationships, and their courage against the odds. I hate seeing some characters go as usual in this genre, but some of them have to go. I even had to make a section of my notebook to keep track of the team members and associates to keep track of the deaths. Also Jonesy was right THEY HAD A DOG!
