♥ A sweet & fluffy hetero romance ♥ Book 1 of 2 in Soleil's Story ♥
Earth has been dead for a long, long time. Humanity has lived in isolated underground vaults for so long, 'the surface' is just a legendary fable most folks don't actually believe in anymore.
Soleil has spent her 23 years surrounded by concrete walls and dim lights--and, apparently, surrounded by lies as well. At first, her passion to learn the truth about her parents is what drives her to breaking into the vault overseer's office to gather proof from his computer, but she finds far more than she bargained for when she stumbles into a report confirming the surface has been safe to live on for hundreds of years.
Stubborn, passionate, and confident to a fault, Soleil can't let that news pass by without investigating.
Despite her chronic illness and now bolstered with the truth about who her parents were, Soleil kindly forces her way out of the vault and is the first human in almost a millennium to step foot on the forest floor above.
She didn't expect to find aliens on Earth's surface, though.
Chai Charoen and his people have been here for a while now, trying to revive the planet back to full health again. But with the peaceful come the ravenous--intelligent and wily insectoid people known as nyd. Chai Charoen is a hunter, scouting the forests for wild game and enforcing the border to keep nyd away from his people's territory--and stumbling across a strange, delicate, pale little creature like Soleil is the last thing he expected.
With a gap in communication, neither can make heads or tails of who the other person is or where they came from, but as we all know--
True love transcends language.
The question now is what Soleil will do when forced to choose between the man she now loves, and returning home to the dark vault to receive life-saving treatment for her illness.
Because her towering, teal, tentacled, fated mate certainly won't be welcome in her home.
Pensaba que era autoconclusivo pero... ¡Sorpresa! No lo es y no hay fecha de salida del siguiente. Just my luck...
This was my first read from this author so I knew nothing about her writing style or how she tells her stories and im very pleased that I took a chance, I really enjoyed Alien Sunrise and looking forward to reading more of what she's written 😊
The relationship between the 2 main MC'S is adorable, the way they interact and how it progresses was a joy to read they definitely make you smile
"My little miracle, my morning sunrise"
The character development is brilliant and the world building is fantastic, this authors attention to detail really gives you everything you need to be able to visualise perfectly.
The world building in this book is spectacular! The alien languages, tech, and even their stories regarding humans are so detailed. Chai and Soleil are adorable. I love that even though their languages are different, they work hard to learn the other language. It shows their commitment and dedication to each other. I'm looking forward to continuing with this couple and discovering more of the secrets that are left untold.
There is so much to love about this story. From the well rounded and dynamic characters to the intricate worldbuilding, to the anticipation and romance that were woven so delicately through it all. I found myself in awe with every page and at many times didn't want to put the story down. With unique characters (in appearance and background) and plot line to diverge from the sci-fi romance genre, this story had me hook, line and sinker. The progression is consistent and captivating and I can't wait for what comes next on this journey!
I would highly recommend this story as it quickly became my favourite sci-fi novel!
Soliel has lived underground her entire life. In fact, humans have lived underground for centuries, almost a million years. Topside was no longer habitable and now an entire ecosystem involving humans and plants have evolved together. But Soliel discovers humans can survive topside- because her mom and dad made it there and her mom came back to have her. So she decides to explore this herself. And yes, topside is habitable again. Only 2 alien species have made this their home. One is parasitic and needs hosts for their eggs, that also provide their first meal. The other is sweet, helpful and are repairing the planet they've made their new home.
Spoilers ahead. This was a fabulous layout. We are introduced to both leads. We get backgrounds on both their cultures. (I highly recommend using the link for the translation lol.) We get enough of a concept that when they meet things make sense. Warning, nyds are not friendly. And another warning for those that may consider this a cheat novel- it's not. Soliel was entered into an arranged marriage. She never loved Zeus. In fact, he's got a love he doesn't want to give up, marriage or no. Marriages are arranged to track births and bloodlines and those entering them do not get a say. It's a platonic arrangement for Soliel and Zeus, they don't even share a residence. So when she meets Chai Chareon she's not cheating on anyone. The world building is phenomenal. We "see" everything. No info dumps, just beautiful descriptions. This author put so much work into this and you can feel it when you read. A good book has 3 elements: world building, character development and a plot. A great book has all 3 and they resonate. My only complaint is that she abandoned the radio too soon. When she and the Ks were able to understand each other better, why didn't she ask for help from the more tech advanced aliens? And why didn't she attempt to use it, shoddy though it was, after the hospital? Especially before the return trip. But, if that's the only complaint then it was most definitely a success.
I only have good things to say about this book - it’s amazing!
The relationship between Chai and Soleil is to die for - even when they don’t understand each other’s language yet, they’re already so adorable. I love how they interact, and how sweet they are to each other 😍
And the world building is so extensive and easily explained, it really adds something to the story, everything has a foundation, the way the tech works, the alien species, the alien languages,… The work put into it shows. The world building is also very neatly woven into the story, it never feels like an infodump.
Okay, you’ve read the blurb. You have the gist of the story but… I have questions and it makes me want to pick the brain of the author and well, kinda demand the answers. If nothing else it is a sweet story with an interesting alien culture that (spoiler, sorta) now lives on Earth. Well, why aren’t the humans there? That is answerable. But…the rest of the questions I have might ruin it for you so I can’t say much. I do say this because I need another written. I need my questing to continue.
DNF @ 30% because I couldn't take it anymore. It's basically Fallout 3 Alien romance, which sounds amazing, but is not.
The protagonist is so TSTL it's genuinely impressive. Can't really say anything about the alien world building since I didn't see much of it but the human world building is so profoundly illogical that it hurts.
There's also a lot of uhhh interesting descriptions like 'the size of the very middle of my palm'?????
And not even going there with the human FMC having purple freaking eyes.
I absolutely love every aspect of this book. Sol was truly my favorite character because she gives off an adventurous and outgoing vibe by questioning things and experiencing them rather than only hearing about them but keeps a rational mind while pursuing them. Chai reminds me of a giant teddy bear since he is big and strong, but also sweet and very caring of others. The relationship dynamic between Chai and Sol is both heated but full of pure love and sweet moments. The other characters were also very lovable and well described. The detail and creation of the world are expertly described without feeling over worded. I was constantly curious and entranced by the different species and their cultural differences. There were also many dangerous and action-packed plot twists that had me screaming at my phone as I read it. Every chapter gives enough information to understand the basics but leaves you curious to know more. I was easily able to picture the events as I read and went through a rollercoaster of emotions. The cliffhanger isn't very dramatic but provides a plot twist that will definitely leave you hooked and excited to know more.
By cover art and marketing, this book is pigeonholed in the alien SF romance genre filled with technicolor alien instalove on planets near and far. This is not that kind of book. There is a fine art to telling a long story in parts - Tolkien's Ring trilogy is probably the most successful example - but author Alinea Lynette is in a fair way to equalling that feat. Alien Sunrise is a wonderful story: a human girl emerges from underground isolation to find Earth much different than expected, especially when she meets the male from the alien race that has colonized what they thought was an abandoned planet. Their evolution from strangers to lovers is the meat of this book, and the supremely detailed world-building, including the marvelous invention of his, and her, unique languages, is mind-blowing, perfectly consistent, and utterly believable. Their romance is the fully told story in this book, but there is a far wider story arc in development and the clear promise of more to come. The questions raised in Alien Sunrise beg for answers, and I can hardly wait for the morning to follow.
WARNING! Although not a cliffhanger, this is the first of a two part story, and as such, it doesn’t actually end. Instead we’re left at the point of a new beginning, so if you’re a cliffhanger hater, or prefer to read a story in one go, consider yourself warned.
A million years after a cataclysmic world ending event, the humans of Earth are living beneath the surface in vaults. A resident of the vault, Soleil is determined to discover the truth of her parentage, a truth which leads her to discover that the surface is inhabitable. Her voyage of discovery leads her to Chai, an alien whose race inhabits the surface of the planet, alongside the insectoid Nyd, a race of beings bent on destruction.
This is a sci-fi romance, heavy on the sci-fi, featuring a very alien looking hero and a human heroine. It’s a slow paced story, though not slow-burn, and the world building is quite fascinating. It is, as promised, a sweet read, with some tender moments and some romance. Recommended for sci-fi romance fans, especially those who love alien or monster heroes, post-apocalyptic and future settings.
Whoever said this was a "marshmallow sweet big alien romance" legit hit it right on the target. There's not a whole ton to the plot in this book, but there's definitely a lead up to something more with some easter eggs thrown in.
I agree with a lot of the other reviews that I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of the two main characters in that his job as a hunter requires him to enjoy being outdoors a great deal (which is what he likes) but she has never experienced life outside of the underground bunker so she views everything with an awe and childlike wonder that intrigues and pulls on the heartstrings of Chai.
Spice is probably a 3 or a 3.5 out of the 5 chili scale. I did really enjoy how these two connected and the threat of jungle predators as they explored their bond and got to know each other better. If you like fated mates, tentacles, fights with bigger and scarier monsters, language barriers - then this is right up your alley. It was a quick read but I honestly really enjoyed it as well.
I adored this book! Our two main characters, Chai & Soleil are perfectly matched rays of sunshine. Immediately loved both of them. By the time they had their meet-cute I was totally invested in their relationship.
This book exudes positivity and leaves you feeling light and happy. The book was paced perfectly and I did not feel like there were any lulls or overly confusing plot points.
I am so impressed with the amount of time and thoughtfulness that went into developing the alien language in the book. The ways in which Chai & Soleil learned each other’s cultures and language was fascinating to read.
I would rank this book a 3/5 on the spicy scale and classify it as a medium burn. Chai is definitely an ALIEN with alien parts so be prepared for extra fun with his anatomy! Snuckle spots are my new favorite thing.
I truly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next installment!
It took me a little bit to engage with the story, but overall I enjoyed this sweet scifi romance. Soleil is an adorable main character and one of a small remaining group of humans on Earth that has lived for many generations in an underground environment. Her romance with Chai, an alien who is part of a colony trying to rehabilitate Earth and is surprised to find one of the original Earth inhabitants in his trap, is complicated by their differences in culture, language, and species. It's interesting how they overcome their differences and I like the way the author developed their relationship, though it still moves at a pretty fast pace.
I was given an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The relationship between Soleil and Chai is adorably sweet, as is Chai himself. The worldbuilding amazed me with all the little details it contained, especially all the details on how humanity evolved and what remained as we know it now and what changed. Soleil is a both very smart and somewhat innocent and naive, but in a way that is realistic for how she grew brought up.
It's hard to put into words how much this book made me smile, but I can only recommend reading it if it's something sweet you're looking for!
I love it when an author creates a special language for her characters, but it's frustrating when you can't pronounce any of it. For me, it takes me out of the story, and that is frustrating. I also had a problem visualizing the main male character. Even though all the things I mentioned above frustrated me, Alien Sunrise is a good story, and I love that there was no angst between H and h. I want more because I want to see what the future holds for the H and h, and I think their adventure will be great.
It’s so sweet I had a sugar overdose just by reading it. The male love interest is so unique in all his differences, and the author really knows how to use them (if you know what I mean 😉)
He is so smitten with her it’s fucking ADORABLE.
Loved the story, world and the SPICE. Augh. Yes please.
The language barrier and conversion was overwhelming throughout the story. I did not take all that to tell a good story. This book could have survived the unnecessary linguistics conflict.
This was a very interesting read. Not a cliffhanger ending but definitely open ended.
There were a few steamy love scenes but not many. Most of the focus is on her and him learning each other's language and healing after the attack from the Nyd.
I love these characters and this world. I'm fully invested and concerned for the MCs. I wish some of the descriptions of characters were clearer, but the cover art makes up for that some.
GIMME THE REST OF THE STORY PLEASE BEFORE I EXPLOOOOOOOOODE! DO YOU WANT TO HAVE TO TELL MY MOM THAT I COMBUSTED FROM STORY NEED, ALINEA LYNETTE?! NO YOU DO NOT!!
I was very happy with this read and I'm looking forward to the next installment. It is so rare to find alien romance that genuinely builds up cultures, languages, strife, struggle, etc. This book manages to do exactly that. Wonderful world building. Great characterization. Unique physical descriptions of the aliens.
