I know who I am. I believe it now. But I don’t have to let a little thing like being the Prince of Darkness define me.
The cops are looking at me side-eye again. I’ve had detectives following me around ever since they found the body of my high school pal and mortal enemy, Uri, dead in Griffith Park. Even my homicide detective pal, Kara Mossman, stares at me a little too long these days, as if trying to decide just how much of a murderer I am.
They’re not exactly wrong.
Let’s just say my life’s complicated.
But according to my license, I’m still a P.I.
So when my movie star girlfriend, Phoenix X, asked me to help out one of her super-famous Hollywood friends, I told her yes, if only for the distraction. And maybe to try and do something good in the world again.
But Phoenix is going through some changes of her own right now, and it’s affecting everything about how we are around each other. When someone involved in the new case turns up dead, we’ve both got way too many eyes on us, especially for how we’re both acting.
NOTE: this is a preliminary book description, a more finalized version is coming soon!
JC Andrijeski is a USA TODAY bestselling author who writes sexy, apocalyptic and cyberpunk-y science fiction romance and mystery books, often with a metaphysical bent. Current works include the gritty, epic, psychic warfare romance, ALLIE'S WAR, which follows Allie Taylor and her antihero partner, Revik, in their attempts to save the world from a dark, psychic force. Her dystopian science fiction romance series, ALIEN APOCALYPSE, features Jet Tetsuo, survivor and slave under alien conquerors, and her GATE SHIFTER series is about a shape-shifting alien and a tough-girl PI from Seattle. Her newest launch is QUENTIN BLACK, a science fiction romance and mystery series that’s a spin-off from Allie’s War but set in our own version of Earth.
JC has a background in journalism, history and politics, travels extensively and has lived abroad in Europe, Australia and Asia, and from coast to coast in the continental United States. She currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand.
“Hollywood Angel” is the sixth installment in the “Angels in L.A.” series by JC Andrijeski, and in my humble opinion not only the very best in the series but one of the top five book across the vast repository of Andrijeski’s urban fantasy works.
Dags Jourdain, fallen angel, P.I. and newly consultant for the LAPD is back from ‘holiday’ just to find out he might as well not have come back, but he is responsible guy and worked seemed to be pilling up. Then Dags personal nemesis, his former high-school friend, turned crime boss is killed and Dags wins the first place in the suspects list. Dags becomes persona non grata, and with everyone doubting him and trying to find out not whether he is innocent, but how much of a killer he might be, Dags only way to wash her name is to find the culprit himself, while at the same time investigate the disappearance of one of Hollywood’s VIPs. Of course with Dags luck both cases are connected and he finds himself (once more) back into hell… this guy never gets break… which is a huge part of his undeniable ‘charm’.
JC Andrijeski has created an amazing character, infusing him with enough humor, credibility, charisma, and intelligence to make him come alive throughout the pages, almost perfect, almost because, there is caveat though: once you meet Dags you would not be able to escape his charm, the lure of the ‘angel’ will have you forever in its grasp. A fully addictive series! Beware before reading though, there is no coming back, which is already a senseless warning, isn’t it? because… if you are already here, you have already been hooked for the last four books and already know there is no possible escape 😊 and should you successfully have been hiding under some rock, desist… resistance is indeed futile 😉 and succumbing to the lure is so much sweeter and….after all Dags is an eternal indulgence 😉.
And just for those who still don’t know Dags, those who have been living under a rock until now for whatever the reasons, do yourself a favour and pick the series! Should you need written invitation 😉, considered yourself officially invited to meet Dags Jourdain 😉 and enjoy one of the best UF out there, it really has it all: • atmosphere (noir L.A, do I need to say more); • background story (a guy whose life has been forever changed by unexpected events); • plot (supernatural P.I. who juggles his official investigation business in Hollywood with his fate as demon hunter); • and then… then there is Dags Jourdain 😉, one of the most interesting guy ever to glaze the UF verse. Imagine Angel (yes, the one from Buffy) without senseless brooding and with real wit dry humor, plus an uncanny power for accurate observation (usually called cynicism by those who don’t have it), a tendency to end up naked in the most inappropriate places (don’t blame him! It’s just collateral, read and find out), and a very pragmatic approach to his supernatural life, the fact that he is also very easy on the eyes is just a bonus. Did I mention he is a demon hunter angel! There are not enough stars on Hollywood Boulevard to rate this guy 😊.
Health warning: this one will keep you on the edge of your seat and breathless! As always with JC Andrijeski's stories this one will captivate your imagination and drag you into an elaborately creative world with compelling characters and strange, angst filled and intense storylines! I love Dag and all his twisted past and complex relationship with Phoenix - brilliant emotional read. Highly recommended!
Excellent stories in this series but frustrating at times
I don't normally read sci-fantasy like this but I gulped this whole series in one 48-hour marathon punctured by occasional naps. I even tolerated the patent "romance" plot progression much better than I normally would, partly because Andrijeski glossed over a great deal of the mandatory "cold" periods of hot-cold-hot-cold romance between the two main characters.
It's great to be back in this world again. This time we deal with some pretty serious back story trauma and of course bad guys wanting to manipulate our POVs for personal gain. We get a much more well rounded solution this time which of course, means more growth in the future. Can't wait for the next adventure, I'm betting it will be a blast.
Wow… this was an amazing read from beginning to end. Highly emotional. We learn a lot of backstory in this one. I feel bad for Dags because it seems nothing would go his way. Definitely need the next book now because I can’t wait to see what happens.
A different type of story. The Prince of Darkness helping to solve a murder, how unusual. It seems to work well, but being watched doesn’t make it easy. Will the case be solved. Fast paced, easy reading.
Awesome! There are no extended epilogue, but this read was an eye opener. Friends have disappeared and now He has to find them. The past reveals how he has been abussed. Now he has to so them he can stand on his own and he is not backing down. Awesome!
Absolutely compelling read, each story builds up towards a greater finali as Dags and Phoenix develop their powers and go to greater lengths to protect their friends and themselves from people who want to control them
Once again just as with the previous books in this series I had a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend that you read this one as well. Looking forward to reading the next in this series.
