K.C. Poitras takes her character’s emotions and inflicts them on you like a weapon. A master-weaver of the clever twist.
Devin Mcalister’s bad news—if she doesn’t know it for sure, she feels it. Rachel has known too much tragedy and leaves town for a new life. She’s content but closed to being hurt again. However, Cassidy and Claire, his 5-year-old identical twins, compel her to get to know them. She sees the sorrow in their eyes that she has in her own and knows these children have suffered.
Rachel is a cake decorator and sometimes works on the baked goods counter—and her homemade cookies can sprinkle sunshine over the saddest little girl. She resists Devin, but it’s futile.
Devin hides his shady underworld business. He has the big house, fast cars and staff on hand. But in his world, somebody’s always out to get him.
It leads to a terrible accident—they are traumatized. Devin, Rachel and the girls have to move
KC Poitras is a master of women's fiction. She writes mature, midlife, romance at its core, steeped in the tradition of Pamela Kelley, Grace Palmer, and Kristin Hannah. Her debut novel, You Taught Me What It Feels like to Fall in Love, is the first book in her You’re My Day One series. K.C.’s stories are wonderful beach read romances with all the feels of Elin Hildebrand, or Kristen Hannah.
K.C. will continue to work on her series with the trials, love and joys in her life providing constant muses for new ideas. Her books offer encouragement and support for those suffering mental illness. Anxiety, panic attacks and depression have been a lifelong battle for her. Her writing inspires, supports and offers hope to those suffering.
When she is not writing, K.C loves riding her beachcomber with Eric, and her friends, or tackling a new and challenging recipe in the kitchen. She loves to cook, host, and entertain and would be lost without her friends and neighbors. Her house is always one step away from a new look thanks to K.C.’s love of decorating and remodeling.
This is a short novel that I noticed when looking through the books available at the library. I don’t recall what made me select this book but it has turned out to be rather disappointing.
The book is poorly edited and as ebooks go, it seems like a pdf that did not properly sequence the pages. The page numbers jump around so you are not quite sure if the chapter has really ended or if something is missing.
The book reads much the same. The plot is thin, the characters are not well developed. There seems to be the start of a story that runs for ten pages covering a span of a few hours, then it jumps ahead by weeks and is a totally different topic and location or event . The story was disjointed. Critical things would happen with no explanation of why or how or even any common connection to the thin plot. Then it jumped ahead a number of years and ended. Poorly ended! Badly ended!
The only reason it gets one star is that a small part of the plot was worthy of a good story… but it never developed.
This was the first book I’ve read by KC Poitras, and I was blown away by her attention to detail, and ability to make all her wonderfully written characters come to life. The story was full of ups and downs and many emotions. I couldn’t help but love main character, Devin, and was excited to watch him grow into a wonderful man and father. The plot twist though! 😳 I did not see that coming! Kudos, my friend, very well done and I can’t wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend this beautiful written and well thought out novel!
This book had me all in my Florida feels. Poitras's descriptions are lush and visceral, painting lovely scenes in my mind's eye. The local color jumps off the page, with references to locations and situations "truly Florida."
I was especially drawn to the character development of the children in the story, as this plot spans a fairly lengthy period. The tension and chemistry between Devin and Rachel is explosive and I could not put this book down once I started!
I had the pleasure of reading this in beta, and absolutely loved it! KC is an amazing author that makes you feel as if you are in a story. This book has everything from suspense, drama, love, and tragedy. Without giving away the ending, there is a twist that absolutely took me by surprise and was executed perfectly. The characters are so real, they have stayed with me for day.
Run and go buy it. This will suck you in and entrap you in the story. I could not put it down. My heart strings were pulled, my brain was intrigued and my fingers are sore from turning. Absolutely beautifully written and captured. I never actually love a book but this was one I LOVE. Can’t wait to read more from the author!
Beautiful story of love and loss. This was a very sweet story with beautifully written characters. I really enjoyed it and will be reading more from this author.
