We thought, we hoped, we looked for, we dreaded. Some of us scoffed, some disbelieved. Others were convinced. Finally, we know for sure: We're not alone in the Universe.
Aliens are here, and their arrival isn't an accident. It's intentional. But what do they want, and will Humanity even Survive?
The Aliens are on Earth, but except for occasional scattered victims, and a few alien-possessed incubator humans, no one is aware, other than a few "heroes," soldiers of the "Dark Teams" commanded by one individual, the fearsome, charismatic, "Dark Leader," and some brave astronauts expected to sacrifice all to save Earth.
Far-advanced Alien Technology, almost indestructible Alien Scout-Soldiers, and worst of all, Something on Earth is summoning Aliens throughout the Universe. Can anyone save our Planet?
Dark Team vs. Stalkers and Crawlers for control of Earth
The Interloper was an exploration vessel hunting for planets with Grazers (bipedal herbivores of the same species as Stalkers) hiding. When found, the exploration vessels would activate the Signal - a device that sends an FTL communication to the Stalker fleet, like a dinner bell. The Signal would bring hundreds of Stalker vessels to Earth. The Interloper had crash-landed on Earth, but not before deploying dozens of escape pods, each containing four hungry Stalkers. Unknown to Dark Team, each pod also housed dozens of Crawlers - small, spider-like creatures that bit and attached to people, controlling them and gaining their knowledge, planting eggs into their bodies to hatch and consume their victim, then spread to other human puppets they could hide their presence while guiding their victims. Dark Team, guided by Dark Leader, Allan Booth, spread out to find the four-legged escape pods and their Stalker crews, and kill the Stalkers before too many humans discovered that aliens had invaded Earth! Dark Team was getting the job done but at a terrible cost! Spread too thin, Dark Teams were dying at a horrid rate. Too many humans were being controlled by the spiders, too many Stalkers seen to hide their presence any longer. They were closing in on the hidden Signal to bring the rest of the fleet to Earth!
The amazing cast of characters for this series brings humor, wonder and danger to the storyline. The individual characters are great sacrifices to the flow of the storyline, especially the poor Major Keller! Controlled by a Crawler, the Major was given a terrifying future as a meat-puppet guided to assist the enemy! The story was expertly offered and guided by experienced authors. This is a good read!
An intriguing story from beginning to end. Absolutely loved everything about the characters a d their world. A crashed spaceship, infection, how will this all be fixed. Gripping, fast paced. Can’t wait for more.
I really didn't want to read this book. Still, it was on my reading list so I plunged ahead and it turned out OK! This is a military sci-fi horror book, plane and simple! If you read the first book (which you should have), you should have known what was coming ie., spiders!
Yes, the aliens aboard the mysterious alien starship named Interloper, contained some very horrible looking spiders things that are very, very numerous. That alien ship had crashed in the ocean outside of Boston and now they were spreading through the world. There were also numerous pods that the alien ship launched all over the plane Earth. Now Dark Teams were desperately trying to locate and destroy the aliens that had came out of these pods. Unfortunately, the aliens, who stood nine feet tall, were hard to kill. Using conventional weapons, you had to hit the aliens directly in the eye or your bullets just bounce off!
The Dark Teams are kind of unexplained. They are some kind of operatives working for what is called the "Association". This Association is lead by Dark Leader a.k.a. Allan Booth. His teams are usually prior military that are quite capable of doing what they do. Now they've taken on the task of exterminating the aliens, but the aliens definitely fight back. And the worst of it is the spiders! These things come out of the crashed starship by the thousands. They attach themselves to the necks of humans and take control of their mind and body. The "infected" humans become almost like zombies although they can function as normal while being directed by their alien parasite. Creepy.
Our former astronauts of David Bryce, Carter Robinson, and Lennon Baxter are still around. David and his family are attempting to find a secure place to hid, while Carter is going to a secret research site to see if he can communicate with a captured alien. Lennon is back with her Dark Team and they are attempting to stop the aliens from signaling someone off planet. It's believed that a signal is being broadcast by a crashed alien ship and that signal needs to be enhanced so it can call in more ships that are even more dangerous than the original Interloper. The Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico is being rebuilt by the alien controlled humans and Lennon's Dark Team must stop that activity.
Meanwhile Atlas Donovan, the young guy who was originally searching for the crashed alien ship, found himself paired with a Dark Operator and crashed somewhere in the Amazon jungle. They were supposedly close to the signal location and were to alert all the other Dark Teams when they found the source of the signal, provided the aliens didn't find it first.
OK, so this book was exciting and all that, but I'm not a fan of spiders running around jumping on people and supposedly laying their eggs inside. At least the book didn't get gross or I would probably stopped right there. Both Scott and Hystad are great story-tellers, but next time, leave out the alien spiders. There's more books to this series, but I'm done, not reading any more.
Another excellent book from Jasper T Scott and Nathan Hystad.
The Dark Team are trying to save the Earth from the alien invaders, the Stalkers and Crawlers.
Unfortunately, the insidious infection has started caused by the Crawlers. They are like spiders the size a crab. When people are bitten, they are turned into puppets of the Stalkers.
David Bryce is sent to Alaska with his family. He manages to get hold of an alien device which hopefully can help the Dark Team win the war.
Atlas Donovan has been looking for a piece of equipment named the Signal which is hidden somewhere on Earth. He must find it before the aliens do or it will be used by them to call all their ships to the Earth and the Earth will be overrun.
Dark Three, Lennon Baxter, finds out that the love of her life is alive. She thought he had been killed in an operation many years ago. Lennon was on the mission in space with David Bryce who was the captain of the spaceship supposedly going to Mars, but in fact sent to intercept the alien spaceship drifting in space. She failed to blow up the spaceship so when it crashed on Earth Crawlers, Stalkers and another group of aliens escaped. She is determined not to fail with this mission to eradicate Earth of the aliens and recover the Signal.
Carter and the alien Grazer were an interesting combination.
This is a fast-paced book, action packed and full of excitement. I wait eagerly for the follow up book.
I received this book as an ARC and have given my honest review.
The humans’ spaceship, “Beyond III”, and the alien spaceship, nicknamed “Interloper”, have crash-landed on the Earth, so our crew is tasked with eliminating the aliens; easier said than done, because there are several alien species to contend with. The prime targets are called “Stalkers”, relatively few in number, 9-foot tall, heavily armored, armed with powerful plasma rifles and few vulnerable spots. Our Dark agents, while out- numbered, are called upon to attack these enemies. Another alien group called “Crawlers”, resemble spiders, but much larger. They attack in swarms of thousands, seeking to attach themselves to humans’ necks, boring into their brain stems, to enslave then by controlling their thoughts and actions. Our main protagonists have to decipher bits and pieces of information to track down a signal device planted at a secret location to thwart the aliens’ plan to send a message across space to call up the full invasion force. As they converge on the device deep in a jungle area, both sides fight a war of attrition. Can our outnumbered heroes survive to recover the device and squelch the full invasion? I liked the format of shifting the point of view among our various groups to show whether any progress was being made in finding alien vulnerabilities and safeguarding people and valuable resources. The authors probed various characters’ personalities to highlight the tensions they felt, keeping the suspense building through to the end of the book. I found it unputdownable and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m eager to read the next book in the series.
Stalkers and Crawlers from beyond earth's universe invade -5 stars
Stalkers are nine-foot-tall aliens who find earth promising and proceed to wipe out mankind.
Crawlers are shaped like spiders and only have to bite people to control the bitten people.
A secret organization called "the Association" tries to nullify the threat.
Can a small band of close-knit motivated human fighters do the job? When Scott and Hystad tell the story, disbelief turns to admiration for courage and ingenuity.
The action takes place mostly in North- and South America. A Puerto Rico segment is especially good as the radio telescope is reconstructed and repurposed.
From Alaska's frozen wilderness to the Amazon's heat, the Association's operatives adapt and usually succeed. Concurrently some medical advances are developed just in time.
Some people are just born to be fighters and are recruited by the association. Two new-to-the-game fighters make the grade.
Signals is a fast-moving and easy-reading science fiction adventure.
They called the alien spaceship The Interloper. The gigantic sized aliens inhabitants were dubbed the stalkers.Dangerous and human eating (leterally) these aliens are right out of a nightmare. But it is the crablike creatures that presented the real nightmare as they lay eggs in the human body much like wasps do, turning humans into their involuntary unthinking slaves. When David and Lennon failed to blow up the Interloper and the alien ship still managed to reach and crash on earth, mankind finds itself at risk of a calamity not ever experienced before. That is, before discovering there might be a second Interloper on the way, drawn by a signal from an even earlier alien ship crash. Heck, this is the kind of plot that really keeps you on the edge of your seat as one danger after another materialises and makes your blood run cold. Enjoy.
Sometimes, you just have to say "Thank You" to what are considered rogue groups, or secret groups, who fight for the nation and the world against people, being and groups who wanted to bring havoc to the world. That's the best way to describe the Dark Teams. After their fight to destroy the Interloper, and the crash landing that released them onto earth, the group was spread out around the world to locate the Signal and to destroy any aliens they find. The action was non-stop and full of heart-stopping events. And I love when an author is not afraid to kill off one of the main characters. Thank you to Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad for your collaboration and bringing us a story that I continue to want to read more of. Bring it on!
David, Atlas and Lennon are back and on the same team. New Dark Team members are recruited to help eliminate the stalkers. Dark 3, is reunited with Dark 1. With the severity of the situation, Dark Leader is using his real name Allan Booth. Still being enlisted to help, Carter is tasked with solving the language barrier between humans and the stalkers enemy, the Grazer, named Chris.
Lennon and the dark teams are dispatched around the globe to “clean up” the stalkers. Bryce is on hold but lucky to reunite with his wife and kids. Atlas must discover the signal which might be the most important task of all.
Now that the invasion has happened, can the Dark Teams dispatch of all the stalkers before the world finds out or is it too late.
Ray Porter is easily one of the best Narrators in the industry today, with a voice that is just so easy to listen to. He has a wonderful range of both male and female character voices, all slightly different, so that they provide a full range of different characters during the story. Porter also provides the emotional state of each of the characters, so you can understand how each of them are feeling as the story unfolds, whether that be angry, sad, scared confused, or happy. Porter is brilliant, and the audiobook is not just an option, it is an absolute must – one of those times in which you have to listen rather than read, as you get so much more out of an already outstanding book!!
Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Signal is an absolute fascinating, bone-chilling sequel to From Beyond becoming this brilliant horrifying journey as Lennon and the Dark Teams and Commander Bryce along with family are ruthlessly hunted by the Stalkers and spiders at every turn. Among all of the intensity, is Carter and the amazing opportunity to communicate with an alien Grazer the Stalkers are hunting down, challenging him to think outside of the box. Wickedly poignant and so visual you won't be able to stop reading until the final page. Highly recommended.
I'm fairly certain I read the 1st book of this series, but I don't remember much at all. Probably my only complaint about this book is it could do a little more back story about what took place in the 1st book. The story kept me engrossed and the characters believable. I liked that there was a strong female main character too. And a female scientist that may ultimately save the world. If you like Sci Fi and Armageddon type stories, you'll love this book, and most likely, the whole series. Let's just hope if there are aliens out there, they are nothing like the Stalkers!
I've read books 1 & 2 so this is a combined review. I thought I was getting tired of Sci-fi books but the first one got me hooked again. Fast paced, excellent writing, and believable characters all contributed to a great series. And I immediately ordered Book #2. At 3am thanks to waking up way too early! LoL
I'll be getting Book #3 soon. That, for me, is a great indicator of this great series. The reader is drawn into the action (and there's plenty of it!), with a fair number of twists and turns.
If you enjoy the Sci-Fi genre, this series won't disappoint you.
This is a fantastic series with multiple storylines toward a common goal.
It's fast paced and hard to put down. Never a dull moment would be an understatement, yet the character development is quite good even with this large cast.
I would consider this to be, near future, science fiction, alien contact, with a horror element to it also.
Highly recommended. The next chapter is set up nicely, so I am definitely looking forward to book three.
The action returns to Earth and so is the action, danger, surprises, intrigue, and unknowns that run throughout this series. While the first was good this one gets better and amps things up more. Easy to read and get sucked into and so so hard to put down as I got caught up in all the fun. And add in the aliens and get a great continuation of the story. Will they find the signal is the question that kept me reading to the end and everything else going on.
The series continues as our heroes attempt to eradicate the aliens from earth. The story Moved fast. I couldn't put it down. When I did, I couldn't wait to get back to it. It got a bit confusing keeping track of the main characters, but it didn't stop me from reading. Finding the signal and destroying it--that's primary, but do they find it & Wil they destroy it? That's for you to read and find out for yourself. Cannot wait for the next book in this series!
The Dark Team was on the move, on the lookout for any threat.
The alien Stalkers were around. They absolutely had to be avoided...
------------
An excellent sequel to the eventful adventures of the three main characters: Lennon, David and Atlas. Each in their corner, they fight against the alien enemy.
The background story is captivating. I loved this volume 2 full of action and unexpected.
I like those Fast Food with Diet Coke books. Fast-paced and often surprisingly enjoyable. Are the characters fleshed out or have a development? Not really. Are there plotholes and a lack of descriptions? For sure. And yet...I had fun. Maybe that's my genre, Sci-fi off the mainstream without award-winning prose or mind-blowing story... who knows.
This could be a nice lower-budget TV Show on the Sci-Fi Channel and I would watch it.
Two of my favorite authors have struck gold with this gem. This second installment of the From Beyond series The Signal is even better than book one. it’s a fast paced page turner, full of suspense, and terrifying. I loved the character development and twists and turns the story took me on and I can’t wait to read the next book.
David Bryce must get his family to a safe place now the aliens have reached earth. What follows is a fantastic rollercoaster of a story. It never let's up with numerous storylines the action and tension floods from the pages. An absolute page turner definitely recommend this book and the whole series
I suspect this book was written by a different author than the first book. The characters are quite different between the books, as if the authors didn’t quite write them similarly enough. Furthermore, it’s just boring. The whole book is just description of action scenes and uninteresting dialogue. Book 1 was pretty good and I’m unsure if I want to continue to book 3 now
Sorry just suddenly these books as much as Nathan's other material, too .much boipics in the first book and the second dragged,as Nathan is a author I follow I just was a bit dissapointed, original but not entertaining.
Wow very fast moving story line. I t was hard to put down. I can't wait to read the next book. The characters seem like my friends and I want to see what adventures they get into.
The aliens have landed and are spreading very fast. Stalkers and Chasers enslave huge parts of the human civilization on the search for the signal. Lennox, Carter, David and Atlas are humanity's last hope. Looking forward to the final book of the series.
Not in my opinion as good as beyond, but an excellent sequel, set on earth after the events of beyond, the invasion has begun, a nail biting chase across the globe, to stop a signal from being sent. Not to be missed, a must read. This was a Ark copy.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The first book was entertaining and I had hoped this one would be better. But not at all. Just entertainment. No depth, nothing to ponder about. You can skip chapters and stay caught up with the action as it just the same thing over and over again.
This book was great! a real page turner. Suspense and surprises at every corner. I felt a real connection with all the characters and I will read it again once I finish the series!
