I called myself Feather. But really? I was Useless. So I chose to save Sanctuary, though that meant I lost everything: my majestic sheets, my old name, my fudging body… and my sweet, sexy soulmate, Mikhail.
When the super-hot and literally horny Rumple sends me back home, not everyone busts out the confetti. You’d think by sacrificing myself, I would have solved a lot of problems. But I only uncovered more, and made some new, powerful, glitter-hating enemies.
When Protectors start to disappear, I’m stuck wandering through Sanctuary’s basement/sex dungeon to find them… and that’s where I discover a terrible truth. The real danger isn’t on the other side of the Great Gate.
It was inside Sanctuary all along.

Fallen Feather is a humorous, steamy romance that ends on a… wait for it…cliffhanger. You need to read Lost Feather first, unless you're into that confused, just-been-reincarnated feeling. Over the course of the series, the main character will end up happily soulmated with more than one of the guys, and she’ll probably put the moves on a gate. This book is intended for adult readers and contains real and made-up profanity, passing references to SA, a whole lot of demon-on-bad guy violence, some angel-on-angel violence, and a few explicit scenes with more than enough heavenly hotties to go around. Please take care of yourself when choosing to read.
Once upon a time, Merri Bright tucked romance novels behind all her textbooks and read love stories instead of the lessons. Now she writes the same kind of books she’s always loved, dreaming up stories about naughty angels, misunderstood demons, sexy shifters, growly Alpha males, and all sorts of dragons.
She drinks cinnamon tea while she writes, and believes in the power of naps, kitten cuddles, and long walks with her dog. Come watch Merri be socially awkward at Merri’s FB page or Instagram @merribright, or email her at merri@merribright.com.
I hope you enjoyed spending more time with Feather. I know that the redemption arcs are not complete for all the guys, the mysteries aren’t even close to being cleared up, and things seem grim in Sanctuary right now. Don’t panic! Rising Feather, the final book in this trilogy, is already in the works. (Pay no attention to the placeholder June 2023 publication date on Amazon. Just like with Fallen Feather, I *will* move that date forward.)

I do have a couple of short stories coming out in the next few months, and another full-length book in my spicy Omegaverse reverse harem fantasy series, The Lost Lines. If you liked Feather’s books, while you’re waiting for Rising Feather, try my others. They are standalones, so you can start anywhere, but the first one is The King’s Omega: books2read.com/thelostlines1.

Review forthcoming. Need to stop crying first. That ending ripped my heart out.
Merri Bright has done it again! Book one, Lost Feather, was my favorite book of the year, and its follow-up is just as good, if not better. It took me several days to write this review because I was still emotionally stuck at that cliffhanger ending, and I could not do it justice.
I absolutely loved Fallen Feather. I was torn between wanting to race through it as fast as possible to find out what would happen and drawing it out because I never wanted it to end. I wanted to savor every moment. I laughed so many times at all Feather’s sexual innuendos and cried actual tears at her heartbreak.
Merri writes her characters with such depth that you cannot help but feel everything along with them. Feather was already stuck in my heart from the previous book, but now she is completely embedded. I have a severe book hangover and predict several re-reads in my future because I will never get over how this book made me feel. And that cliffhanger will stick with you for days.
I still am really into this series, although this one lost me a little bit. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars, so I'll settle on 3.5. Mikhail and Gavriel are on earth for almost the entire book, so they're separated from Feather, which sucked. I liked Righteous's arc in this book a lot. I can't really decide if I'm a fan of the introduction of Precious. Yes, Precious is really funny, but I'm not sure if Feather/her guys are really ready to be mama and dada in this story.
My larger issue with this book is that everything was going badly for the main characters for most of the book. If the characters just communicated their suspicions (Righteous/Feather knowing something is wrong with the Guides, Feather seemed to know what Precious was going to be, etc.), so many things could have been solved. I just think it was the easiest route for the story to take, but it wasn't the most interesting imo. It was obvious conflict/villains, and it was mostly just giving me anxiety. Nothing was really surprising me.
The strong part of this trilogy is really the characters and the romance. I am so excited for Gavriel and Rafe (aka Rumple) to get involved. On to book 3!
I am always down for a chaotic FMC, and Feather is a delight in that respect but this book just did land well with me.
In a lot of respects it felt like a repeat of book one. Basic same plot, a bond, takes all the smut, pretty much everyone hates her.
These angel like figures are mean and awful. They read like a host of entitled Karen's instead of guardians and protectors. And I know they have been led down the wrong path but leadership from the High Angeli have been lacking from moment 1.
Grav always leaves to Earth when he needs to be at Sanctuary. Bear is locked away in his cave, not mingling. Again, I know they have issues and have made scrafices for the Sanctuary but they seem ignorant to basic things, like how singing/music has power and value beyond healing songs.
This is absolutely a me as a reader complaint but Precious is such an awful addition to this series. 99.9% of the time I hate babies/kids in romance novels and adding a demon/angel hybrid at this point that can kill bad guys indiscrimately with no consequence seems to pretty much ruin the whole plot point about how the balance must be managed. But I know I have a bias on this issue, so it might not be an issue for other readers.
This may also be a me complaint and a bit of a rant but I am so freaking tired of every book in a series ending in a cliffhanger. If you write a good book, readers will invest in the next in the series, you don't need to bait us with a cliffhanger. This isn't the only author doing it, which probably adds to my frustration as a reader since I'm encountering it so often.
So ultimately I'd rec this to readers who like a crazy, chaotic FMC who does what her heart tells her.
This book takes off right where Book 1 ended. Feather is in the abyss, but she isn't alone. Finally able to be with "Rumple," her heart is in pieces. Shes glad to finally be with him but misses her guys back in Sanctuary. After some time when she does return, things are different...only are they different or are things just getting worse?
The author does an amazing job capturing the empathy from Feather in this entire series so far. Feather's soul deep, all-encompassing love that she has for everyone, even the ones that wronged her is refreshing and heart-warming. I love this character so much that it's hard not to be on her side and be against anyone who truly thinks ill of her.
The character growth between Feather, Righteous, Mikhail and even Gavriel is consuming. You keep wanting them to all just get together, shout out their true feelings and be done. However, Sanctuary is in danger of falling, Earth has a new "demon" on the loose and the end of everything seems to be coming faster than anyone can imagine. Their never seems to be any time for them all.
We are kept on our toes with the depth of love from Feather, the laughter we get from her thoughts, the friendship she has with Sunny and the hope that she has for almost everything, that it will all be alright. It also helps that the steam building between her and her guys and the romance between her and Mikhail is off the charts!
"A soulmate who was perfectly imperfect."
With twists and turns - mutiny is on the horizon and no one is able to stop it except for Feather. The smut is now growing within people, and we are unsure how it has gotten so bad, so fast. More sacrifices are made and then at the end we are left with an earth-soul-shattering revelation that I did not see coming. My heart ached so much, and I was left wanting so much more.
This book was everything and I LOVE this author's writing so much. Its all-consuming and I don't want it to stop. I can't wait for Book 3!!
*Overall 5/5 *Heat? 3/5 *Multiple first person POV *Fast Burn *So far MFM Romance *Ends on crushing cliffhanger
Feather is chaotic as ever and I will never get over peoples reactions to her. Her antic have me cracking up and her sacrifices always have me feeling for her. She’s such a fun character to follow.
The Sanctuary has a lot going on in this book. Things go south and watching our faves (and some new loves) trying to keep the balance was stressful. The journey was great but I know there’s still much to happen with that ending. I have high hopes for this group and hope that small glimpse we see at the end comes true. If anyone deserves a happy ending, it’s Feather and the people close to her.
This series is super fun and nonstop, it’s definitely worth reading. They’re easy to binge and get wrapped up in.
These books are so freaking good!! I could not stop reading this book. There is so much going on and there wasn't a minute that went by that I wasn't intrigued with the story. I loved that we got a little more spice in this book and there were also some pretty heart wrenching moments. The main event though was the cliffhanger! I can't wait to read the last book!
It feels like lots of things happen but also nothing happens? Like different things are happening but also the same things keep happening (Feather protects, Gavriel thinks about how he’s a piece of crap, Rumple knows all, and Mikhail and Righteous moon over Feather)? Like I’m interested but also bored?
Luckily, it makes me lol like the first book in the series. But there were some things that bugged the crap out of me. Like why would you leave only Feather in Sanctuary when you know it siphons High Angelus energy? Why would you not make haste while on your mission (despite the hiccups, felt like they could have been done sooner)? Why would you merge in the dungeon in the middle of a rescue mission? Why was Feather so into Gavriel when he was the absolute worst?
The last quarter of this book was a struggle for me and I’m really disappointed I didn’t like it as much as the first.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Cliffhangers, cliffhangers, and cliffhangers, are literally a kill buzz. I hate it like really hate it. I’m so heartbroken with this ending and I’m in total need of book three, please. Merri bright are you listening or say reading, you are killing me slowly by writing these incredible mind-wrenching cliffhangers.
An incredible story in making and the world-building is deeply explained. It starts where the first book left off and took flight in a very beautiful and humorous way. With Feather being in the picture all serious situations feel like nothing important, she’s so fun to have around and she makes you relax instantly irrespective of the dire situation. Her ability to make words into fun ones, made me laugh like a maniac all over. She has one dirty thought and mouth.
Mikhail, Righteous, and Gavriel are the growly bears in their own way and they heat up the story. Rafe adds up to the heat and made the story more interesting. The story goes through some heavy action and magic used in the process that’s very thrilling. I was not expecting any of the things that happened especially at the end and now I’m very curious to know what’s next.
We see other angels' work and character which is good and bad. A new character is seen and I love that one for all the mischief around it. Writing is mind-blowing and marvellous. It’s been woven from a single thread and oozes intense nature and love. Feather's character has grown a lot from mere meek and dismissive, now she’s strong and people look up to her. Slowly and steady she’s changing everything around her.
My beloved Feather has the endurance of a triathlon athlete. She gets put through the wringer constantly by pompous bassholes, and she always comes out on top. With glitter in her wake. I was anxious when Mikhail left her to go to Earth, and I was right to be. But Feather did what she always does...she protected those she loved and tried to see the best in everybody, even those who didn't deserve it. If anyone deserves their wildest fantasies to come true, it's her. Fingers crossed we get to read a few in the conclusion. ;)
Sadly, this trilogy started off strong but it's just not cutting it for me. Everything is taking SO LONG.
She has multiple love interests but she's only with one right now and, while he's open to her having multiple relationships, it's not a typical practice so no one knows this is okay. It just makes it weird that she's lusting after other men while they're having their honeymoon.
Plus, multiple of her potential partners are douche schnozzles.
I'm going to dnf this for now. I may come back to it. I've just lost interest. Feather is even dumber and I'm at 60%. Nothing has really happened. I'm out for now! Who knows, I may be in the mood later on.
This is the politics session of the series. Feather sacrificed herself and broke her mate bond to save Sanctuary, but now Rumple has sent her back and everything still isn’t fixed. I still don’t find these books funny so much as brevity added, which was needed in such anxiety inducing story. Lost of the problems that arose here felt like they could have been resolved with a conversation, and there were some doozies. It ends on another cliff hanger, but the harem is slowly forming and so far it’s been a wild ride.
4.5 Stars Sanctuary is the home of the Guardians aka the protectors of humans. It’s an odd thing to have the greatest threat come from within but that’s the situation Feather finds herself in this book and unfortunately she’s enemy number one on their list. Why she can’t catch a break I’ll never understand. She has an evil and petty love of glitter where every scene has her leaving her mark (for eternity). Even with so many horrible beings around her, Feather is always positive and always happy, it’s almost creepy. Then again seeing as she’s spent her 400+ years as a protector all alone, with no knowledge of who she is or any training should be enough to impress anyone. Sadly she does not invoke love and most cannot see behind all her smut. It does bring about some philosophical questions which I kinda appreciated. Feather wears smut for all her misdeeds and even some murders, but is she really to blame when she’s saving current and future victims..? For some crazy reason the gang decides they need to take a trip from Sanctuary as it’s slowly deteriorating. Of course once they do, shit hits the fan and everyone is neck deep in danger, mayhem and glitter of course. Feather is great and I’m looking forward to her life calming down, at least a little so they can focus less on the world ending. Sure they find time to have sex and fulfill many of her kinky insane fantasies but I’m sure everyone will breathe easier when there’s not a countdown to the end ticking in the background…..
I just finished my 2nd read of Fallen Feather. If I'd tried to write a review after the first time it would have been...
Oh my God (laughing) Oh My God (crying) OH MY GOD (crushed). I can do better. LOL
Feather continues to be her unapologetic self. I love her stream of consciousness dialog, internal and verbal, regardless of who she's speaking of/with. She remains fearless and determined and if she doesn't know something then she has no issue winging it. How her heart can remain so pure and selfless through all the shizz the entitled ashhole whiners subject her to is something I'll never understand. And she continues to sacrifice for them? I could never be that good.
I don't know that Growly Bear Mikhail could be any more perfect. How he loves Feather is magnificent and man does he have the perfect dirty mouth. I love that he finds her verbal insanity charming and is willing to do anything to make her happy. Righteous quickly grew into the male I wanted him to be. He thinks he's all worldly and experienced and I had to laugh when he was described hearing Feather and Mik together. Rafe is just, sigh. I hurt so badly for him. How much sacrifice is enough?! I mean how do you fight for millennia with no hope for anything different? How do you stay surrounded by darkness and it not change you. Ugh. And Gavriel. I don't know how I am so conflicted. I get that the whole Arabella thing sucks. I think it sucks worse because she's still there, in his face, reminding him daily for hundreds of years, what he lost. But he's pulled back from everything. Forgotten or ignored what's important. Abdicated responsibility. I understand he didn't want it but boo hoo. He knew what was important and he let others remove his focus from it.
Sunny is even more perfect in this book. And I love Hope. Percy is fantastic and I feel so sorry for Truth. The naked Octet are fabulous. Heart and Glory broke my heart. I don't think Valor got what he deserved and I'm not sure who I hate more, him or Tradition. Glitter Baby was an addition I didn't realize I needed. I adore her in her marshmallowy imperfect perfection.
The last few chapters broke me in so many ways. Gavriel...the new room, the revelation, the devastation. This...
Remember this moment, my sweet boy. Hold fast. Be True. Let her show you how to love.
I cried again just typing that. My heart hurts. And Seraphiel...
Are you there, Little Sacrifice?
I just can't.
I'm overjoyed that Merri was able to carry all the things that made Lost Feather so amazing into Fallen Feather while still advancing the story. In my long reading life, more often than not I've been disappointed by book 2s. The things that made book 1 so special for me were gone as the story progressed. Not this time. It takes a special writer with an exceptional story to make that happen. Merri wrote an Empire Strikes Back, not a Temple of Doom.
5 motherfudging stars...can't wait for the next one!!
QUICK POINTS: - Ends on a cliffhanger - RH/Why Choose PNR - Great Worldbuilding - Balanced characters and relationships - Lots of "romance" [ ;) ] - Loveable and Funny FMC - MILD enemies to lovers - Soul Mate trope - Queer relationships - Grovelling and BIG build up to grovelling
Merri Bright started this world out with such a great introduction to the lore, relationships and belief systems that i knew this one was gonna be great too, AND I WAS RIGHT
We get to pick up from the cliffhanger and spend some quality time with rumple daddy and also get some insight into our other main cast, which is a great theme she carries through the book, giving us persepctive from plenty of points whilst ensuring it is not confusing and that they add to the plot and not just page count
Shes great at invoking readers emotions and especially with this one, writing the casts actions in ways that create frustration and anger so if you enjoy mentally yelling for someone to do something in your books you will love this! But its important to note that unlike other authors who do this on accident as a negative to the story, Merri weaponises these moments in the casts growth to demonstrate their naivety and other untollerable traits without explicitly telling us, of or more simply "showing not telling"
The romance is also great with the love interests experiencing their own plots alongside our main birch Feather's which is really great in their relationship building because it gives us a chance to get attatched and for Feather to build herself up with each of them and not be overwhelmed or miss an opportunity with another.
My final favourite part has got to be the lore/worldbuilding of this one, Merri has truly become a Maker she writes about as she adds information to raise the stakes, zoom outside of the camera frame from the last book and give us background on Sanctuary and the entire FeatherVerse, in a way that is not confusing. She again uses "show dont tell" really well and leaves inference on the readers end on the implications of certain ideas, locations, visuals etc, whilst also having them learn perpendicular to Feather.
This has been a long review so ill try to wrap it up haha, but all in all the book is a must read, Feathers personality of unconsciously weaponising her "goofiness" against seriousness lightens up the book in a really balanced way so she dosnt come off as annoying, and its heartwarming to see the positive effect her personality has on those around her
The cliffhanger was rude as hell 😤 but ill definetly be buying the next one and i have super high hopes
To my smutty RH loving ride or die birches, this one's for you.
One of the best PNR RH series I've read in a long time.
Series review.
A bad-ash tale, perfectly balanced between the sweet and the profane that will alternately have you laugh out loud, fan yourselves, sigh and tear up, while frantically turning pages into the wee hours of the night. This series is sweetness and music, love, smut, and magic, covered in bright shiny glitter. The kind you are advised not to read in public places since bursting out into laughter out of the blue might make you look a bit 'unhinged'. (*cough* Been there. Done that. Do not recommend it, but totally worth it. :D )
Feather is one of the most endearing FMCs ever written. A little great soul made of mischief and kindness, generosity and humor, with a deliciously smutty mind and a stubborn belief in goodness, even in the face of horrifying evil. She will add a shiny layer of glitter even to the darkest blues of any reader out there.
Her ride or die birch Sunny is the best BFF ever! The kind who 'doesn't ask why, when the poop starts to pile up. She just asks what kind of shovel, how deep a hole and who's buying drinks after.'
And don't even get me started on Feather's guys!!! They are both a wet dream, and a soul's deepest desire.
But the best part of it all is the love. True love that doesn't require reciprocation and expects nothing in return, except for the chance to shine down on a lifted face. The kind of unconditional, compassionate love, that falls on sinner and saint alike and is bound to touch the heart of any reader out there. Because it reminds us HOW to love. 'With bravery and confidence. Sheer determination and will and no regrets.' Even if we fail at it. Because what truly matters is TRYING.
I grabbed the first book on a whim, after a long hard day and ended up finishing it that night. I dove straight into the sequel the next day and then kept going until the very end of book 3. And now I'm hunting for paperbacks for my shelf of favourites.
If you're like me, and love a good tale that's sweeter than chocolate, full of love, fun and naughty smut, (and glitter of course) pick this one up birches! It's the chef's kiss kind of bad-ash! You can thank me later. 😉😎
Hugs and light Bookdragons, And remember "The right thing is almost always the scary thing."
Feather is the bada$$ bestie that I’ve always wanted. She’s compassionate, hilarious, has smut on the brain almost 24/7, and she’s addicted to glitter - she’s basically my bestie soulmate.
Fallen Feather is another emotional rollercoaster, with equal parts laughter and devastation (and a smorgasbord of angel peen). I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the pages once I started. I HAD to keep reading to make sure that precious Feather was going to be alright. I had predictions for certain plot points and character reveals that were completely destroyed in this book, in the best way. I love it when I can’t see the plot twists coming! Even the ones that break my heart into a billion tiny pieces.
This is such a fantastic and original story. I can’t wait to read the next book and see what surprises will hit me in the face next!
The second installment of 'The Forgotten Angel' trilogy, much like the first part, does have its issues; I might be expecting more action and world-building, layered and detailed stories than I should (maybe it's a bad idea to read George R. R. Martin at the same time as other books).
Fallen Feather feels a little messy, and it wasn't interesting enough to have me reading the book word-for-word, but I was still awake at 1am finishing it so the author must be doing something right. The ending hit me in the heart, again, the scene with - I need to read the last book to get closure so badly!
This is what reading for me is all about - emotions - strong ones too - the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between.
Reading this book, it honestly felt like all the characters were sitting next to me as I turned each page, I didn't want it to end. Like all the other reviews said, when you laugh, it's loud, and when you cry, you need lots of tissues. The spice is spot on, the story is complex but written so well you don't have to question a thing, you just get caught up in it all.
Do yourself a favour and jump into Feather's world.
I am so disappointed that I did not love this book as much as I loved the first book in the series. I am not really why I did not like it except that I was bored most of the book. It seemed a lot was going on in sanctuary but nothing really happened or got done. It was too similar to book one. I have not decided if I am going to read the last book in the series or not.
ARE U KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW!!!!! DEMON BABEYYYYYYYYYYYY
(p.s. how is gavriel still so horrible to her i do Not care for your internal thought of you regretting and feeling bad i Need you to vocalize that to feather)
Oh sweet baby Jesus! I swear Merri Bright is trying to murder my heart!! 😭😭 This book is perfect! The slapstick humor, fast paced plot, devious spice, and absolute heartbreak and pinning she packed into this book was unreal! This series needs to be read!!!
