Red, white, and blue are the best colors to use in the defense of a dungeon….
After a harrowing experience with a Soul Manipulator after he created his Easter section, Elmer Robbins is back and developing a brand-new area based on another holiday. With enough Life Force gained from the Adventurers perishing throughout his dungeon over the last few months, the Dungeon Core decides to implement the holiday of Independence Day as his newest addition to his dungeon defenses.
Cooking on a grill, playing with water during hot summer days, and setting off fireworks are some of the best things about the Independence Day holiday he remembers from back on Earth, and he wants to translate those experiences into his dungeon. At the same time, he needs to discover a way to prevent the same thing that happened with the Soul Manipulator from occurring again, because the last thing he wants is his soul captured and used against his will.
However, the danger to his Core won’t come from another Soul Manipulator. Instead, it will present itself in the form of an old enemy, as well as from an entirely unexpected direction….
Independence Core is a short, 37k-word novella set in a unique universe that contains LitRPG and Dungeon Core elements such as stats and character progression. Contains no foul language, explicit sexual content, or harems.
While this was a fun read, and I enjoyed the new mobs, and take on independence day, I did feel this was a bit more rushed than past books. It was setting up for the final book, and the big baddy at the end, but still felt a little rushed. Other than that I still really enjoyed this series, and the audio quality and narrator are pretty great.
I really love Elmer and Keebles so much. I've been reading these books through the year as each of the holidays roll around and I think that's made them even more fun. I really enjoy the humor in these and all of the themed rooms and minions that Elmer comes up with.
These books are short and cute and full of action, it's funny just how invested I find myself in Elmer's story and even the groups of adventurers coming through his dungeon.I've never read books based around the Dungeon's core before, and I find it wild just how much can happen to it. Things have really escalated since Elmer's start and I am looking forward to seeing how things play out with the soul stealer and Elmer's wife and the conclusion in the final installment!
Elmer is still at. He’s recovered from his fight with the Soul Manipulator in the last novel and expands to a new holiday. He goes with the 4th of July but tries to focus on patriotism for wherever the dungeon crawlers come from. It goes well and the adventurers are thrilled. But he receives a visit from the priests of several gods who tell him the Soul manipulator is alive and coming for him, and they won’t allow the man to have Elmer by any means. They reach a compromise: Elmer can stay alive and growing, but if the manipulator gets in spitting distance, Elmer and his wife will die instantly. End of novel.
Still a fun quick read. Highly enjoyable. Have fun
Elmer has a pretty good feel for the dungeon core life. He has three completed sections and has saved up to make his fourth. Staying with his holiday decorations theme, the next in line is Independence Day. Time to light up the dungeon!
This short novella is the fourth part of the holiday dungeon series. It has been a lot of fun seeing the adventurers trying to figure out familiar holiday decorations. This book is no exception. It is also ramping up to have the next novella
I love this series, it's fun to see how the author has his MC turns the various holidays into dungeon sections. He says he will end the series with the next book, based on Halloween, which is a real bummer. I'd love to see what he could do with Thanksgiving. Labor Day and Memorial Day might prove challenging, since there is no real decorating or traditions, other than maybe visiting graves of family. Then, there are other holidays, like Boxing Day, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Yom Kippur, various leader birthdays and such.
I like this series of short stories. But this book was frustrating. The ending and the nature of the obstacle felt sudden and not very sensible for the group who instigated it. I'm not really interested in seeing where this particular thread in the story goes but I'll keep reading because I do like the main character.
Jonathan Brooks never ceases to amaze me with his creativity in these novellas. Round four finds Elmer celebrating Independence Day. There are lots of twists and turns and picnic fun and a few wickedly sly surprises... Grab your mat and enjoy the ride !!! P.S. Hope you like Fireworks lol....
Maybe the problem I felt with this story is that there aren't as many options for obstacles and rooms. It's tough to get an involved feeling with a water slide of death, a maze or a humongous game of corn hole. Also, the story felt a little rushed as the new adventures sort of became secondary to previous baddies and setting up for what seems to be a final showdown
This one didn’t work for me overall. The story felt really dry, and I just couldn’t stay interested in this section of the series. On the positive side, I did enjoy seeing the one negative character get what was coming to them in the end—that was satisfying. But aside from that, it fell flat for me.
Given that the next book is supposedly the last, I enjoyed the interesting adventure put out and the new problems that will arise with Elmer. I think the author chose a neat and interesting group of side characters to help flesh out the world we read about.
Loved this book and the ones before it. Looking forward to the Halloween one but I don't think the author should end it there. I think he should make one more after that, for Thanksgiving... I mean come on a huge killer turkey? Awesome!
This book was good. I am glad that what happened to the main group in the last book still affected them, and it was not just glossed over. I am a little that there will only be one more book for this series, but all good things come to an end. I see Elmer meeting that soul guy before the end. I will have to keep reading to see if I am correct.
