“Maybe when this is over, you can fuse together sometimes. You know, for a flight here and there.”
“Yeah…maybe.” She would never ask him, not if they won the war and Anastille was returned to peace. It went against everything they fought for, and she was certain the practice would be forever eradicated.
I’d like that, Hatchling.

decent conclusion to the series

I really enjoyed the series and as much as I hated some of the character deaths, it kind of needed to happen.

There was a good chunk of the book that I didn’t like Cora which was interesting because I have really liked her throughout the first three books.

We got some depth to Rush’s character which was nice. Got to see his internal struggles and to see his moral dilemma.

There was more banter during this book which was fun. The MCs and their friendships are fun to read.

The ending broke me. Just broke me. Good luck getting to that part. I won’t even mention names but I was sobbing.

Th Fuse Series

I'm not much into science fiction but I love dragons so I read the first book with interest and was hooked. The storyline is excellent! There is adventure, there is horror, suspense and a great love story. It's a story about living in harmony and doing your best. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series! E. L. Todd has done a marvelous job! Thank you for transporting me away

amazing

This isn’t one of my normal reads, but I decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved it. Great story, awesome characters, redemption, love, growth, sacrifice. All found in these 4 books. This needs to be a movie, and not just one, a four part series with the entire storyline not just pick parts. I loved this story.

Amazing!!!

If I could give this 10 stars I would, but unfortunately Amazon limits it to 5. I have loved this story from the first book, and they just got better with each new one. ❤ I can't say too much without giving spoilers, so just read it and see for yourself!

I’ll give the last book 4 stars because I had fun reading the series. Still wasn’t my favourite writing but I did love the world with dragons in it.

Fantasy at its finest

Really enjoyed this series. Every part of Rush, Cora, and Flare's adventures culminating fusing with Ash and beginning their journey to the end made a greater adventure. While I wanted Call on to make a different choice, in the end he did what made him happy and at peace.

Best one yet!

I have been waiting for this book to come out for months. It did not disappoint! I read it through the night and could not put it down. It moved at a quick, but not overly fast pace. There were tons of moving pieces that needed to fall into place and I liked how Cora and the other characters had to work to get people on their side. It wasn't just "I'm amazing, let's go and everyone agrees." I felt the anguish of the characters throughout the book and felt like it wrapped up nicely!

amazing conclusion to this heartfelt series!

Slay was everything and more that I hoped for in this final book. The character development is beautiful across all our leads and the ending is so satisfying. Seeing Cora grow into this amazing steadfast person and overcome all these challenges was incredible. If you’re looking for a series that will take you through all the ranges of healthy emotions and teach you small precious lessons on the way then this is the series for you. Great job author!

Slay

I truly loved this series. It sounded like something that could really happen if people could bond with dragons. This is my first series by you, but it is well written, well edited and I really enjoy this genre and would like to read more.

Both a happy and sad ending

A rousing finale, with all the ends tied up. Resolution of all the problems and a happy ending. You can't ask for more. Medieval setting but the dialog is modern. I liked the dichotomy. I would read more of her science fiction.

I also wrote a shorter review on the first book.

The first book was the strongest for me, receiving 4 stars whereas the other three only get 3 stars. Three stars for me is NOT BAD. I enjoyed following the characters to their destinations and I was largely satisfied with the way the books progressed and how the whole series ended. The ending felt earned, though it did drag out with a few sidequests that seemed could have been solved earlier with just better decision-making. Cora had to be obnoxious every now and again, but most of the time she was a properly sympathetic heroine.

Again, I really liked the world. It felt thought out and full, the "magic" was a little fuzzy for me sometimes, but it's magic. Whatever. I liked it. The will-they-won't-they seemed unnecessarily drawn out when the main character complained so much in the first book about being told what to do and who to marry only to spend the next three books going "eh my uncle doesn't like you sorry :(" but I get it. It's a staple of any romance to make it as ambiguous as possible. Not my thing, but I know it's a trope I gotta deal with. Didn't affect my enjoyment of the books.

Now, I'm going to denote the things that annoyed me about the series, and yes all of these things amounted to two stars removed, but SERIOUSLY this is just MY tastes, and even then, I STILL enjoyed the series a lot. I probably won't be re-reading it as a comfort read, but it was still worth the read and I'm glad I found the series.

Don't stop writing, author. I know you write under a different name now, and I don't know what it is, but keep at it. You had a good idea and you wrote from the heart, and despite everything I'm about to say, I could see it. I could see how much work you put into it, and each book gave me solid 5-ish hours of enjoyment each.

Okay, the bad things.

Like, for instance, the whole "liberating Talc" thing with the dwarves. They threw a fit about Megora wanting to keep her dragon so they could communicate, only to send her to Callon for the exact same reason, making them do a whole trip back to the dwarves later because oho guess what? They had no way to communicate with them! So they stuck a dragon in Bridge and sent them back to the mountain to do the same thing they could have done if they'd just left Talc there in the first place... Like, I get it, it's the principle of the matter, but you're sure not above throwing a hissy fit when you don't get your way because "this is war and we have to do what we must!" Guess that only counts when it's YOUR idea.

Seriously, if the characters themselves are complaining about how much back and forth they have to do, then maaaaybe you should rethink your plot beats.

Cora also has extremely unbearable moments that could have been handled much differently. The most egregious example is when Rush is basically dead and she has a fit about Ashe not wanting to cry for him to heal him. She tossed a manipulative guilt trip in his face about "if you loved me you'd heal him NOW". Why couldn't she just grieve and have Ashe, out of his love for her, offer it up because he can't stand seeing her like that? It would have been much more impactful than having Cora throw a tantrum that would embarrass my toddler and the result would have been the same.

She does that a lot in the series... She has no empathy for the people she cares about. "Oh he loves me so he'll do whatever I want." That's not an endearing thing, author. Let the actions speak for themselves.

The second star is, again, because of the formatting. Not just the way the paragraphs are spaced, but the way the author does dialogue. Author, said is not dead. You don't need to be so extra with your italics and bolds and your underlines. Just use dialogue tags for the love of god. We know they're talking in their heads, so italics are all you need, and then follow it with a "(name) said" at the end. Bam, we know who's talking. The excessive formatting makes it annoying to read and you're not even consistent with it throughout. There are times when someone's formatted with someone else's "style" or no style is given at all.

Said is NOT dead. Use dialogue tags, PLEASE. Especially when you got to the point where you had to use all caps to denote Callon's telepathic dialogue, that should have been a huge red flag of "maybe I'm doing too much." You don't even have to use it that much - just to show us the flow of conversation, who spoke first and who spoke next, and then we can follow the conversation from there. If someone else starts talking, toss a dialogue tag in to let us know who.

There were some lines that brought me out of the world a couple of times, like Cora says "Jesus" I think in the second book, and like...does he even exist in this world? It was the only time it showed up so I figured it was just a mistake. Other things were, like, characters calling each other "hot" and stuff. Just random little modern phrases I don't normally see in high fantasy settings. Not a bad point, just something I wanted to add while I was at it.

I really wish I liked this series more. I pushed my way through it, and I shouldn't have. It just wasn't for me. I think I only continued because of how much I loved the MMC. I was also really intrigued by all the different species and their history. I was particularly interested in the shamans and their steeds.

But the FMC was really bland and very inconsistent. She seemed like a strong, headstrong, independent woman at first. And she always seemed excited when she found out a woman was in charge somewhere. But then other times she seemed to unconsciously bash women who weren't like her. She prided herself on her annoying and sexist "not like the other girls" attitude. I also have no idea why everyone loved her and caved to her opinions so often. She wasn't awful or anything, but she was not nearly as persuasive or loveable as the author intended. And I honestly agreed with the other characters when they pointed out how hypocritical she was pretty often.

I also hated Callon. I thought he was rude and closeminded. I hated how much of the last book focused on him. And all of the other characters are sorta forgettable. I really wanted to love Bridge and Lilac and even Captain Hurricane, but we never got to see more than one side of them. They literally only existed to help the MC's.

But the worst part of this series was the dialogue. I don't think I've ever said this about a book before, but there was honestly too much. There were not nearly enough descriptions of what was going on. The author replaced creative and descriptive writing with just having the characters talk about what was happening. And since so much was said into their minds, all the different types of fonts got confusing. Choosing to have Callon's font be all caps was a terrible choice. It always looked like he was yelling and I would have to backtrack to remember to read it in a different tone (even though the tone was rarely described). And so many conversations were extremely repetitive. I felt like a large majority of the book was the characters talking about things we just read about, so it was like we read the same information two or three times. But even worse was the way the characters talked. It didn't match the time period or history at all. It was way too modern. I remember the first time the FMC said "jesus" as a curse. It shows a lack of attention to detail by the author. We have this entire fantasy world without any sort of christianity or other organized religion, so who is jesus in this world and why would that ever be a phrase/curse they used. This type of language just kept taking me out of the experience.

I’m going to write this review on the series as a whole rather than just the book.

Whilst the concept of the story is actually really gripping and enjoyable there’s some aspects of the writing that are tedious.

For example the language used, it’s very contradictory through out and I personally found that annoying. I also found the use of the word roar annoying just purely because it reminded of the emo MySpace phase (rAwR <3) however that’s a very personal thing and some people won’t understand the reference. I also found it difficult to follow who was speaking during the internal monologues. I would also say that this read closer to a YA read which is fine as long as that’s what you want to read.

However with that in mind none of the above was enough to stop me flying through the series! The world building was enjoyable and the writing in the final book was rather emotional and it really is a credit to the author. I enjoyed the characters and how most people had the opportunity to have redemption.

Oh My Heart

The final installment of this adventure was beautiful. I started reading this series on a whim. I had so many other books I planned on catching up on. But when the promotional art came across my fire tablet I was instantly intrigued. It hit me at the right time. I gave it a shot and was instantly enthralled with this tough girl who had strong opinions against the norms of society that could blacksmith.

I didn't realize this story went beyond one book but the ride was exciting. As a lover of fantasy and dragons it was just the adventure I needed in this time of my life. And the overall message of family was deeply meaningful to me. I was literally ugly crying towards the end. I didn't expect to get this attached to the characters but, damn it, here I am willing to fight and die for them.

Now that I have finished the story I feel sad that my time with these characters are done. I don't know what to do with myself. But it was a wonderful read. Just a good simple story of good verses evil with loads of adventure. I highly recommend!

The amazing end to the series. The battle has finally arrived. They have the allies that they need to defeat the king but will they succeed?
She has Ashe, she has the free dragons. She has the dwarves and the elves. She even manages to become allies with the ones she thought she would never be able to convince.
The battle ensues and Ashe becomes captured. She fights with everything she has to help him escape but will she succeed.
The elves, dwarves, free dragons and secret allies battle the kings army. The battle is long and hard but with Cora's abilities they are able to take down the threat. But can they defeat the king himself? With Ashes brother fused with the king, they struggle to fight him and Bridge is harmed in the process. Will he survive or will her heart be ripped from her chest, never to return again?
This book has you struggling not to skip ahead. I wanted so badly to skip through pages to get to the battle. To find out who comes out victorious. I will tell you that the story has a beautiful ending but is it what you want to happen or is it something else?

I enjoyed this series so much! Cora is a definite badass. I loved her so much. She is not perfect and is deeply flawed but that only makes her more enjoyable. Rush is also one of the most interesting leads I have read in a long time. His redemption ark is well earned and makes him a very lovable character. Cora and Rush as a couple and as friends is the sort of slow burn that I love. They obviously should be together but have so many things to overcome. Their loyalty in the face of everything makes their relationship so sweet. I also cannot overstate how much I love Callon and his relationship with Cora. The rest of the characters are also enjoyable. The best part though is the dragons. I loved the concept of fusing and the connections that Ash and Flare have with their humans are so interesting and make for unique dialogue. I did not like how little Flare there was towards the end of the series, but other than that a really fun read!

sad finish to a great series

Not plot wise…just that it followed the too often trope of trying to rush an ending and it failed. There’s a part where it seems like a new quest for a certain plant is underway and it’s traveled and quested and solved in two paragraphs. Something that plagued this world for centuries was a two paragraph solve. And had about that same reveal due to another solve.
There were a few new characters that were interesting …but no development and to keep things simple people die but they weren’t pivotal or it was trite.
Sucks cause I really liked the series-
Oh and ‘that’s hot’ isn’t something that felt right for the world or is a phrase that should be bright back. It even read in a P Hilton voice as it was so not pertinent
Oh and and everyone that swears they won’t do something on their honor etc caves almost instantly
At least Ashe made her work for it ….
Really didn’t like it sorry

This has been one hell of a ride! I am still drying me tears and feeling all kinds of feelings.
When I started Cora and Rush's story I never thought I would be so absolutely immersed in their adventures that it would feel as I was a part of their world. The author no only transported me to a new and amazing universe, she also gave me the ability to fight every battle, to feel every feeling, to experience every sensation. Her words had the power of transporting my mind and body to a different plane... One I never wanted to leave.
This right here, this series and every other series and books that made me feel part of their world by just reading the words they contain, is the reason I have become the greatest bookworm known to human kind.
I am forever grateful to have found this series and this author.

I’m so sad to finish this series😭 I’ve grown so invested in the story as well as the characters. I am, although, happy to say that this 4 book series came to such an incredible close. It started off pretty mundane and predictable in book one, but once the secrets, betrayals, and sacrifices started coming out in the next two books, it made the final book so much more impactful. Although it isn’t quite masterful writing, the details and connections become so meaningful in the overarching plot, making the story that much more compelling. Cora’s ability to unify all races of Anastille to combat against King Lux’s tyrannical rule was incredible to read, and the sub-plot romance with Rush was absolutely scrumptious. I’m very happy with how each lose end was tied up, and I’m so glad most of the characters had a happy ending, because they DESERVE IT AFTER ALL THAT.

What an adventure!

Im gunna start with saying something personal. Ive been feeling low the last few months. That led me to reading book after book as a way to escape or dissociate. There were good ones, okay ones, terrible ones. They all just kind of blended together. To the point im fairly sure i read a couple twice. They were not fulfilling. I love fantasy and i love romance an adventure, but it got to the point that i felt like i was just reading different spins on the same thing. This book just has something different. I love the way that not only is their romantic love between our two main characters but also love in friendship, familial love and grieving love. My only tiny wish was that their would have been more any kind of more between cora and her mother.

So on the whole I loved the concept of this series , if at times I found it a little slow. But this book….. I wanted to bang Cora’s head against a wall! Lilac the pirate lover got it right in an earlier book, Cora is a hypocrite! Being willing to give everyone and their aunt a second chance but she can’t or won’t do the same for Rush? The bit that peed me off the most was when he died, she was devastated, and yet when he came back to life she STILL was more worried about her uncle’s opinion than him?! It just tarnished the whole series for me and I’ve been out of love with books for a week as it’s scarred me 😢

Loved the series though so would recommend!

All I can say is this is a great story, I've read all the books but wanted to save my review till the end. If you like stories with Dragons, Elves, and other creatures, don't skip this one. The writer has developed a cast of characters with great depth and emotion. There are many laughs, suspense, drama, relationships and complications, and tears to drag you in and keep you there. The story is well laid out and gives the ready everything they could hope for.
All the relationships have a full range of emotions, life death, love, grief, romance, but no sexy time details, other than a grab or kiss, safe for early teen to adult.

I loved this whole series. Great characters who face emotional, moral decisions. Some of it reminded me of Ann McCaffrey, some of Patricia Wrede but this series definitely held it's own!

Oh but the ending! It all builds to the battle and I had such expectations.... Yes, I was satisfied in the end but I wanted more of the battle and how it raged since the characters were SO invested in their goals.

The ending was, to my mind, the months after the battle. And it's utterly heartbreaking. Cried for chapters! A good solid ending to a series, to be sure. But it hurt.

Great series

I really enjoyed this series. I took my time before starting this last book because I knew I wouldn't want to stop once I got into it. I'd already missed too much sleep reading books 1-3! I'm glad I waited for some uninterrupted time! I'm going to miss the characters, they were so well written - I can't even count the number of times I had to stop & wipe the tears away so that I could continue reading. Their pain, pride, happiness & joy were more than just words on a page. Well done, E.L. Todd!

A series totally worthy of praise.

Dipped in to read the Fuse books at every given opportunity, I could not stop reading them.

When I wasn't reading them I was thinking about the plot, where it could be heading. E L Todd got the different characters and how they interacted with Cora perfectly. As Cora's abilities gradually grew the task of finding more allies that could work together was compelling. There were a few that emerged that were totally left field, but worked well within the context of the story.

A series totally worthy of praise.

I loved it!

I read the last 2 books over the weekend... I just couldn't put them down. This story was NOT predictable and there were so many plot twists and turns that it kept me riveted! I was blown away by some of E. L. Todd's choices and applaud her bravery! Bold! While I always wish there were more books in every series I read, I think this ended well, keeping the door open a crack for a spin-off series and ended with hope.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Eragon with romance

I loved the Eragon series. Fused is similar in the fantasy and heroes adventure, but with a heart wrenching/ warming/wrenching romance. I gave up work I was supposed to be doing to read this. Don't start unless you're willing to not interact with your family because you're so engrossed. Buy tissues for the last book. Humor tears and sass in perfect balance. Read this series.
