Lance McDaniel: The military was my life until my vehicle hit an IED. I lost half my hearing and a leg. I'm home again. Home to the mountains I left for adventure and travel. Home to the girl who stole my heart when we were still kids. But Rebecca has changed. My little Becky is a stunning woman. One that makes my battered body and wounded heart yearn for a future with her. She's a nurse now and knows exactly what's wrong with me. I feel bare to her and pride rears its ugly head, making me harsh and angry with her. Can she not only help me heal medically but forgive me and heal the wounds too deep to see?
Becky Flynn: He's still the most gorgeous man I've ever seen. Even with the physical damage and emotional scars that have shaped him into the harsh mountain of a man in front of me. Definitely not the boy I remember. I can heal him physically. The emotional scars make him push me away though. It's like a dance where one of us always walks away from the other. My heart aches to hold him, touch him, make him whole. Just love him. I'm just not sure he'll accept my love or if I should finally move on and find a man who accepts and loves me as I am.
The Heart of the Wounded Hero series was created to pay tribute to and raise awareness of our wounded heroes. Each of the over eighty authors involved have contributed time, money, and stories to the cause. These love stories are inspiring and uplifting, showing the sacrifice of our veterans but also giving them the happily ever after they deserve.
By increasing awareness through our books, we believe we can in a small part help the wounded heroes that have sacrificed so much. Thank you for reading.
3.0⭐️ This story is short, sweet, and very sexy. It primarily focuses on Becky and Lance, high school sweethearts who profess their love for each other, but six months later, Lance informs Becky that he is breaking up with her and has joined the military.
Fast forward 15 years later, and Lance returns home missing a leg, in addition to other not so easily discernible disabling conditions as a result of the war he fought in Afghanistan. This is all about their journey, past and present.
I enjoyed this very short story, the sexiness of Becky and Lance, as well as their likable personalities. My only complaint is that Lance’s disabilities are not dealt with in any appreciable way, thereby, doing a disservice to him as he tries to adjust to life as a civilian.
I know I keep writing the same review over and over for this series, I'm just so in love, obsessed and addicted to it. I really can't put them down from start to finish.
These are fantastic, inspiring, sweet and sexy, instalove short stories written by various different authors. They tug (no rip) at your heart strings and set off almost every emotion possible. Although I sobbed more then usual on this story!
They have great characters that are realistically flawed, emotionally broken, physically damaged and have demons but they are beautiful, determined, dedicated, fun, strong, committed, loyal, loving and by various means find that special someone who makes them feel alive and whole again, then they start healing and are rewarded with their Happily Ever Afters!!
I highly recommend this series. I haven't been disappointed yet and it's for a great cause. I can't wait to start the next one!! Happy Reading!!!!
Lance and Becky were high school sweethearts. Until Lace broke up with her because he was going into the army to become a ranger. Becky losses her virginity to Lance then he decides he needs to tell her he won’t be going to college he enlisted on his eighteenth birthday. He wants to end things with her because he thinks he’s not good enough for her. Becky tried to move on from Lance but now even her ex-fiance could light a fire under her the way Lance does. Sarah and Bull ask Becky to look in on someone they want to make sure his mental health is stable. When Becky walks in Lance is in bed and it’s the middle of the day. He been home for six months and just wants to be left alone. She tells him he needs to get up and get his muscles working. He needs to get back into rehab and wear his prosthetic leg. She tells him about some of the patients she sees at the rehab center. She leaves telling him if he needs anything to call her. As the days go on they both can’t stop thinking about one another. They both end up at dinner at Sarah and Bull’s along with Delia and Stetson, Mandy and Remington, and Jenny and Colt. Bull tells Lance he needs to asks her to forgive him. Sarah makes sure that they are sitting next to each other. They can’t keep their eyes off on another. A few nights later Lance calls Becky, he lets her know he’s been going to rehab. He asks her if they can video chat and she accepts. He lets her know how he feels about her and tells her when he left it was the dumbest thing he ever did. He tells her about the picture he’s kept of them in his wallet. He ask if she would like to come up to his cabin, she agrees on Friday night. Lance has a roast with baby potatoes and carrots in the oven when Becky arrives. When she walks in his place a cleaner than last time. She grabs his face with both hands and kisses him. She tells him she was trying to get rid of the awkwardness. When his smoke detector goes off he’s burned the roast. She offers to make them omelets instead. They hear a loud crash outside and he runs to see what it is. A storm is blowing up slamming a tree limb on her car hood. He tells her she is spending the night just like when they were kids. They argue a bit on who will take the bed. Until Becky suggests they share it. She puts the pillow in between them, so he doesn’t get any ideas. They both falls asleep she is woken to a muffled whisper. She rolls over to find Lance having a nightmare. She tries to wake him. When he pulls back to punch her she falls off the bed to get away from him. He tells her he is sorry and she tells him he can’t help his nightmares. She leans over to kiss his cheek, and then she touch her lips to his. They deepen the kiss as he reaches down and pulls her tighter to him. He slips off her shirt and tells her she is most beautiful thing he’s ever seen. He lifts her so she is straddling his face, then turns her around. He ends his call with Bull and then tells her what her dad told him. She tells him that neither one of them had the right to make that decision for her. Romance trope: second chance Series: Heart of a Wounded Hero Length: 81 pages
Plot: Lance has come home, wounded and left with permanent injuries. His friends think living around friends will make things better, but one of those friends - Becky - is the one who got away, specifically the one he left behind. He doesn't have a very good reason for why he broke up with her, but she would like some closure. Since she's now a physical therapist and has reason to see him, she just might get what she wants. But will he?
Commentary: Eh, his explanation for leaving her never made sense and the thing about her father could have explained everything if there had been some more detail. I felt like there was a lot left out or given too little attention. But when I read a second chance romance, I really need a grovel because someone was responsible for the breakup - maybe both of them, but usually one or the other. He did grovel. He definitely did. I was just unsatisfied with the explanation as it was.
Oh how I loved this book!! Lance broke up worth Becky in high school to join the army rangers. It destroyed whatever they had. 15 years later Lance returns a broken and angry hero with a disability. Unbeknownst to him Becky runs the physical therapy clinic where he's supposed to go for further assistance with his prosthesis. There's a whole host of emotions that pass between Lance and Becky. From anger, sadness, lust, thr possibility of renewed love. I loved Lance and Becky's journey because deep down these two people NEW they were meant to be together. But the roadblocks that tore them apart had to be addressed. And once that happened....wow! What an amazing HEA!! I especially LOVED the 2, yes 2, epilogues showing that their love stands strong. I highly recommend this book!! Tamrin Banks brought the receipts for sure when she wrote this awesome installment to the Heart of a Wounded Hero series. Fantastic book!!
I enjoyed reading the love story of Lance and Becky. They were high school sweethearts, both thinking of what will happen after graduation. Becky is thinking they'll got to college together, Lance signed up for military service. Lance broke up with her on the last day of school, leaving her devastated. They had no contact for fifteen years. She almost married someone but there wasn't a spark. He never met anyone compared to her. He was injured in the war, discharged from the service, had PTSD, lost a limb and a will to carry on. Becky went to visit him at his home, found him hungover, in a state of who cares. That visit actually got him motivated. Read what they go through to get beyond the past. Hope you enjoy the story too.
Lance McDaniel was dating Rebecca in high school. She finally gave in to him expecting them to be together. Last day of school he lets her know he is going into the military. He gets hurt and is coming home. He finds out she is a physical therapist. When they hey see each other they realized that they were still in love with each other. He is talking to his best friend Bull and they are talking about Becky father telling Lance that he was not good enough for her. She ends up hearing it and asking why. They will never know because her parents died.
All these books are a great read. It brings to light what are returning heroes are going through. Each book shows a different way they heal and sometimes they don't completely heal, but they learn how to cope. In this one, he not only lost his leg, but also the girl he left behind. He had to crawl out of his shell, face his disability and personal angst. Through working out his physical problems and her trust issues, they eventually get their HEA.
I am a huge fan of anything and everything that Tamrin Banks writes. She really and truly amazes me at times with the depths of her characters. Some of my absolute favorites of hers are the stories that have amputees in them. As an amputee, the way she portrays her characters' feelings and pain is spot on. Not something that is easily accomplished by everyone. Not to mention that the stories themselves are incredible!
Wow... Lance and Becky were wonderful. Lance made a poor choice when they were younger and it left them both reeling from the loss. After so many years apart, seeing one another again made all those buried feelings come rushing back. This story was really heartwarming. I loved it and highly recommend this author!
I love these Heart of a Wounded Hero books. Everyone has been a 5 star read. Becky and Lance are getting a second chance but is it to late? Lance came home missing parts of himself, can Becky help him find himself again? A great story line and great characters. A quick read. Definitely recommend.
This has been the best of this series so far, by a good bit. Valid emotions, realistic conversations and obstacles, enjoyable side characters, no insta love. The sex was good without being graphic to the point it stops being sexy (I'm looking at you, other books in the series).
If you want a short, KU ex-military romance, pick this one.
This is your typical man comes home from the war shattered and broken. The characters were well written didn't see any editing errors.... I enjoyed ITIT was exactly what I needed tonight. You feel the man's pain and insecurities mixed together and that really got to me he seems like somebody that you do want to nurture and build.
DNF. I've been in the army. Lost my right leg below the knee... Sorry, but I think (maybe the book started wrong for me, I don't know, there is a bit of a juvenile feeling to it for me) Maybe the book will be good for others but I could not finish it. I just couldn't feel any empathy (or even sympathy) with the MMC.
Becky and Lance were High School Sweet Hearts, before Graduation Lance told Becky he joined the service and he broke up with her and he never told her why and that crushed her. Now its 15 years later and he is home from active duty missing a leg and most of his hearing, and he still Loves her. But, guess what she still Loves him too.
Absolutely loved the newest book in the Heart of a Wounded Heroes series. After being wounded Lance returns home and wants nothing to do with anyone. Becky fights for their perfect ending and brings Lance back to the life they both deserve. Loved every word Tamrin writes.
What a brilliant read that this was. This was a great second chance romance story that I couldn’t put down. The characters are really likeable and have great hot chemistry between them. This is definitely a must read!!!
Although somewhat formulaic, this book is still quite touching. There’s a lot of good ‘stuff’ in this one! The storyline is great; the characters well thought out; has some decent twists and turns; and a kick ass HEA. Well worth a read. ❤️
Well written story and well developed characters! All of these books are telling the tales of returning military personnel! Very heartfelt and interesting!
First time reader of Tamrin Banks and I will definitely read her backlist. This was such a well written romance. I love a second chance romance with a history.
