This volume is what I call the turning point which will lead to volume 6. X is pushed to his most vulnerable state after Korrinas mega ring is taken. I quite like this , as X now has time to reflect on what his style has been in previous volumes , and what that has resulted in. I also enjoyed seeing Diantha and Korrinas battles , showing why they are so favourable. Also team flares plans have reached the ultimatum… let’s see where it leads to in vol 5

This one was great. We're getting a big battle against team flare. We're seeing gym leaders and others gather together against team flare.
I feel like we haven't see the gym leaders as much as other stories, which feels a bit like we're missing out on some things, however I'm still loving this battle.
Trevor is finally standing up for himself and others. X is finally coming out his shell and listening to others.

This shows their power in battle, they actually made Malva a fucking character and not just… poorly written elite 4 member. The whole thing is just very well done, but better than the game.

Best character AND quote this book: “I’m NOT the chosen one! And you’ve got no right to speak to me that way! SOLAR BEAM!” Trevor being the fucking goat this book.

A new generation of Pokemon manga! This one is based on the X/Y games. The story starts right in the middle of some action: a journalist is being attacked. New Pokemon, new trainers, new villains. I was immersed in the story!

Probably vol 4 was not the best place to start. It wasn’t so much I didn’t know what was going on (except in action scenes, where I very much had no idea) but that I didn’t know why I should care

I don’t know why, but this volume didn’t capture me as much as the others from this series. There is a lot of plot movement on all fronts in this volume. Y’s mother, the legendary Pokémon Xerneas, Team Flare’s ultimate plans, Malva’s reveal, AZ and the Pokémon war. Seriously, so much occurs in this volume and so quickly. I wish this had been split into at least two volumes so each plot point was able to get the attention it deserved. Everything is so rushed.

And I have to admit as much as I have wanted a proper Pokémon trainer as a main character. One who like the protagonist in the games who is all about being the very best like no one ever was, X is just not it. He is an incredible trainer and his Pokémon are smart and well trained. Three of them can even mega evolve at this point! But he fights with no joy or passion. I hope that changes after his “chat” with Xerneas, but as a main character he is a bit of a drag.

I also hope volume 5 is a bit more fun then this one. Cause Kalos has a lot of great characters that weren’t fully explored since we never got Pokémon Z. I hope the next couple of volumes will give them the appropriate chance to shine and maybe clarify AZ’s role a bit.

Goodreads only goes up to #4 but this was a banger volume, starting with X and co. dealing with the fallout from Team Flare's latest attack and ending with Green's unexpected but welcome return. Love the character dynamics in this
