The ninja adventures continue in these stories featuring the characters of Naruto and Boruto!
A new series of prose novels, straight from the worldwide Naruto franchise. Naruto’s allies and enemies take center stage in these fast-paced adventures, with each volume focusing on a particular clanmate, ally, team…or villain.
When Naruto is no longer able to use chakra, the shinobi of Konoha come together to help him. Even Orochimaru offers to assist with scientific ninja tools. While directing the people around him with all the dynamic ferocity of a mighty whirlpool, Naruto stands tall, facing this trial with an unbreakable spirit!
Masashi Kishimoto (岸本斉史 Kishimoto Masashi) is a Japanese manga artist, well known for creating the manga series Naruto. His younger twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, is also a manga artist and creator of the manga series O-Parts Hunter (666 Satan) and Blazer Drive. Two of his former assistants, Osamu Kajisa (Tattoo Hearts) and Yuuichi Itakura (Hand's), have also gone on to moderate success following their work on Naruto.
Kishimoto's first work as a manga artist was Karakuri (カラクリ?), which he submitted to Shueisha in 1995. This earned him the Weekly Shōnen Jump's monthly "Hop Step Award" in 1996, granted to promising new manga artists. This was followed in 1997 by a pilot version of Naruto (NARUTO-ナルト-), published in Akamaru Jump Summer. In 1998, Kishimoto premiered as a Weekly Shōnen Jump artist with a serialized version of Karakuri in Weekly Shōnen Jump, but it proved unpopular and was canceled soon after. In 1999, a serialized version of Naruto began publication in Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became a hit.
This book was so weird and yet, I enjoyed it. The most random things you can imagine happen, and you do think to yourself, is this really Naruto? The plot is so bad it's hilarious, but once you realise the plot is largely nonsensical and doesn't matter anyway to the larger Naruto canon, you can have a good time reading this.
The Naruto Retsuden light novels are different to all the previous because they all follow the same story like a traditional book trilogy. The first two concern events that lead onto the end of this book and they fit together. Although, I don't think you'd need to read the other two to read this one because you kind of get the gist about what Kakashi and Sasuke/Sakura have been up to. Amidst the strange plot is a lot of sweet moments between Naruto, his family, friends and a scientist who definitely has a crush on him- who can blame her?
The actual story was odd and in the middle I just didn't care about what was going on. Naruto has a chakra sickness because he's a jinchuriki with the chakra of all bijuu in him and the only way to cure it is using polar particles from a meteor the Sage of Six Paths found on his travels in Redaku with his blind astronomer friend. This friend is mentioned a lot but doesn't actually matter to the story much. In the pursuit of this cure Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura are sent after information and after a successful coup and successfully fighting dinosaurs, they bring everything together. In this book, all the information is sent to Kengakuin, an international research facility with an untrustworthy leader. Of course, trouble ensues because this guy wants to destroy all shinobi for the sake of his nation's (Land of Stairs) economy. A misanthropic scientist is currently doing research in Konoha to turn chakra into other substances so that people no longer need to mine finite resources, which isn't good for Stair's economy because they rely on their natural gas resources.
The motorcycle is invented in this book. Drones try to kill Naruto. Naruto uses scientific goggles which allow him to borrow Hinata's Byakugan. Orochimaru is helping everyone out. Not to sound like a broken record, but seriously? Orochimaru? Not only is he free to complete his weird experiments, they actually trust him to do missions for them. Hell, he was playing with Himawari and Hinata didn't bat an eyelid. He could have stolen her eyeballs and let's be real, those goggles are his attempt to get the Sharingan. Having said that, why was the mum friend role kind of entertaining. Ino and Hinata both say this and I see it. Even though Ino doesn't trust him, she treats him like another parent friend. Orochimaru talking about Mitsuki was kind of cute. And Mitsuki with Yamato was cute too. Even though Yamato rightfully hasn't forgiven Orochimaru (his numerous crimes are indeed unforgivable) he has a sweet relationship with Mitsuki who he probably saw grow up.
I almost loved the ending. It was all about the teamwork with ALL of Team 7, Ino-Shika-Cho, Orochimaru, Gaara and Kurotsuchi. Shikamaru and Chouji are fighting in a nightclub (where Shikamaru's shadows are weak, who knew?) to unlock a guy's phone; Ino and Orochimaru are breaking into Kengakuin to access files to break the seal on the polar particles; Sai is in Redaku to perform the unsealing; Kakashi, Yamato and later Gaara and Kurotsuchi are building a 200km tall pillar to reach a satellite; and Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura are riding a motorcycle into the sky together. It was a strange set of events but I like that we kept switching back and forth between each part of the plan. There were some sweet moments in there and some funny ones. Naruto wedged between Sakura and Sasuke to witnesses them kissing as he's held in place by Sasuke. They pick ice of each other like monkeys picking fleas. It was wonderful imagery. Of course, they succeed at the final moment.
The most interesting and frustrating part of this book was just seeing these characters as grown ups and how their friendships have developed. Little snippets of Shikamaru and Chouji crying at Ino and Sai's wedding, Naruto and Hinata watching Icha-Icha-Paradise on a date, Neji's diary, Hinata and Sasuke's little "chat"where she basically threatened him, Boruto being a good big brother, Himawari being cute and the depth of Naruto and Sasuke's bond. This guy, rightfully so, was willing to give his life for Naruto. Do I have to forgive him now? They're still fighting though, and just like before its because of that bond they have. Naruto's interactions with Chihare were a real joy as well. In the face of this woman who doesn't think she needs others and is amazed by Naruto's ability to draw people to him, Naruto reflects on the happiness at finally having people around, has brought him.
To be honest, I would have loved this book if it didn't have the absurd plot and it was just these friends interacting. The story was almost extraneous. That being said, I enjoyed the ending and it did facilitate what I liked about this novel. I just wish for more domestic, peaceful bliss for the Uzumaki's. And can we finally, after all the damn light novels they mentioned this in, change the bureaucratic processes of Konoha so Naruto and Shikamaru can get some rest please!
An absurd ending to this absurd trilogy. But it was cute to see our favourite characters as adults so I'll accept it as mediocre, but fun, fanfiction. It was the best of three.
I have to say for half of this book I was completely uninterested and disappointed. From the very first scene, I couldn’t believe there was a *laser gun* in *Naruto.* Completely out of place. Then, not too much later, *drones* with laser guns on them? Then they go into *space* without spacesuits and they’re fine? And in the end they’re all just celebrating, drinking hard cider out of cans? *None* of this has a place in Naruto. I thought the concept was well built up with the last two novels, but this one failed miserably. I was happy to see the conclusion come to fruition, but *not* in the way that it did. One thing that was most disappointing was that Sasuke didn’t even use his Rinnegan. That would have been the most *useful* thing to use in this entire situation and they could have completely avoided having to do the entire last half of the book. It was poor writing and poor characterization. I also hated how they referred to Nagato as Pain, when clearly, before Nagato died, he renounced the name. And finally, like the other two novels before this one, they didn’t bother to fix the typos and grammarical errors. I get that it was translated, but Masashi Kishimoto has more than enough money to pay for an editor. And maybe a better writer too…

As uninteresting as all the books in the series. Characters who are not Sakura are always poorly written and come out of their personalities completely. A cheap and disappointing fan service. Naruto doesn't even look like Naruto, his illness is so poorly developed that it causes strangeness. As if you spend the whole story asking yourself "why is this here? What's the point?", Because sometimes it seems like something last minute, in a hurry or that only existed because it existed. It is strange and causes discomfort. Without commenting on the persona of Naruto who is very strange, even with his family. As I mentioned, if the character is not Sakura, there is no good development. And what is the point of adding things, for example, the glasses that Orochimaru invented? Seriously, everything seems so played, so created at the last minute, so little developed that it agonizes me. The new character added is uninteresting and does not deserve the time it received. And his interactions with the other characters, including Naruto, are terrible. Seriously, too bad. Still trying to understand why Orochimaru is in this Novel and why Chihare appears more than other characters that could add much more. Again, I will repeat: if it is not Sakura, there is no good development. And it is disappointing to see how characters extremely well-known by fans have been extremely misused in this book and in this series in general. Anyway, I expected more. Much more.
I do not want to say much. I LOVE NARUTO AND I LOVE THE BOOK! I do not believe in some previous reviews though. It is a well written book that keeps you hooked till the end! I don't know about others but true Naruto fans will definitely enjoy this book! LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE BOOKS FROM JUN ESAKA!
I love these Naruto light novels this one is probably one of my favorites it made me laugh it made me cry it made me Cheer!!! Can't wait for the next one!
Read a fan translation which was missing all the beautiful prose and some really sweet parts but I still had tears in my eyes so the official translation would easily have me bawling my eyes out. I love team 7 so fucking much. And I have been going on and on about my love for sakura and sasuke in the novels i read earlier but this just reminded me how much i adore naruto. I wish I could read official translations of these novels more easily. They're nice to read if you completely turn your mind off with the plot and only focus on personal relationships. Plus this one had everyone weirdly hanging out with Orochimaru and every mom thinking of him as their weird mom friend which is just hilarious (Oro is still creepy btw but in a funny way?). There's team 7 and ino-shika-cho and iruka and temari and gaara and kurotsuchi and kiba. and you wouldn't believe it but there's a CANON SASUSAKU KISS and in the most team 7 fashion, they're kissing right above a bewildered naruto's head on a motorcycle hundreds of km above ground. But even though I'm sasusaku trash, this is not the best part of the book for me. That is just seeing Naruto as an adult, as a Hokage, as a child who has lived to be much older than his parents ever were, as a war hero who would love to work at a desk if it means peace for the children of the next generation. That and team 7 in a shared mission again as adults. Now only if I could find the real translation for the epilogue where allegedly naruto, sakura, sasuke and kakashi are drinking beer on a rooftop looking up at fireworks contemplating about life I suppose, I would die a happy woman.
Me encantó.

I couldn't find the English version again, so here I am.
So this is the last of the Retsuden trilogy - of course, the main character has to be Naruto. What I liked most about the trilogy is that it focuses on the original Team 7 because I miss them.
I liked that there was an overarching plot to tie up the first two novels. But somehow I didn't get as invested in this one. It also felt a bit rushed but that may be due to the fact that the first two (or three?) chapters were kind of a prequel explaining why Kakashi, Sasuke and Sakura were in their respective missions, leading to a time jump to the present situation (in the novel) and all the explanations have to be done quickly.
Even so, I also liked the fact that the other genin (the original ones) were shown here and we had a sneak peek of their current abilities and thoughts as well. Sai and Yamato too.
I don't really like that Orochimaru was here (and even on the cover - since it ruins my Team 7 nostalgia).
My most favorite things about this light novel are the little moments between Kakashi, Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura. We really need a spin-off of their adventures post-war, I think.
All in all, I'm glad to have read the Retsuden series.
The technology and the imaginative theory/explanation did not fit the timeline of "Naruto". The community seems to evolve exponentially fast since children no longer have to fight to survive. It's interesting to see what a form of world-peace can provide for society; however the mix of science fiction towards the end was difficult to comprehend and felt too early in evolution. Also, personally, I did not think it necessary to describe with words what each character was thinking. Enveloping oneself in the Naruto universe, you gain a perspective to understand the body language and tone of what each character is feeling without verbally saying it. It was annoying to be told explicitly what they thought since I lose that personal connection to them. All in all, it was fun to see Naruto and everyone in a different light, but it stands separate from the universe as a whole and feels like it's own thing. But it is enjoyable to imagine...
Really loved some of the action in this one. Seeing Naruto fight a certain long-standing villain as hokage was awesome. The secret agent type plot at the end was also very enjoyable!
I didn't like how this book handled some of the characters. It had a few scenes of Naruto and Sasuke bickering, which I was under the impression they had grown out of in the Boruto era. It also features Orochimaru heavily, and he's as evil as ever. Again, I was under the impression that he had largely reformed after the war arc. It was disappointing to see him back to his old ways, and it clashes with how he presents himself in Boruto.
All in all, an excellent addition to the Naruto novels, and a great way to wrap up this particular arc. I'm hoping for more in the future!

This is the final book of the retsuden trilogy and the whole story is written very well. It is quite nostalgic and exciting to see everyone from the old days; the elite shinobis are working together to save naruto. I mean naruto have been protecting and saved everyone many times but this time everyone have to help him now. What i like even more about this trilogy is that everyone is mentioned, and this shows us the bond between everyone so clearly. Like the couples, adorable relationship between mitsuki and karin/suigetsu, and even orochimaru and himawari! Everyone's character is well written and i'm out of words. I hope they animate the whole story.
I loved it! How they all helped cure Naruto’s chakra illness was amazing. And Sasuke was going to give up his life to help Naruto succeed that.
No matter the context, they never fail to add a sense of humour to the novel. And how Naruto still had a smile and happiness express upon him even though how much he is going through, the pain due to the illness and pressure thinking he may not protect his village also may not be hokage.
Lastly! Sasuke and Sakura’s relationship in the novel was too much for me. And how the kissed when they were in the worst timing and almost 200km up in the sky.

It was surprisingly intense but I enjoyed it. Not perfectly written some things seem to run contrary to what I've known about the characters from being a long-time fan. But I think it's still definitely worth reading about how someone else characterises Naruto. My advice would be to try to read it in the original language if you can because some translations aren't perfect.
not necessarily a good book in the classical sense, but it's got a bunch of unprecedented orochimaru characterization that i really enjoy. a great book if you like orochimaru (or perhaps sasunaru). mediocre if you dont care about orochimaru. i like that they included sai. i like less that they left him to choke, but you cant have it all.
The nostalgia of the characters is 10/10. I couldn’t help but chuckle when Shikamaru was supposed to say what a drag, it always used “hassle” and when the shadow clone jutsu would be used it was “doppelgänger”. The story was a little cheesy, but like I said I loved nostalgia of it and would read another story.
I am not really a huge Naruto fan, but my kiddo is. So when I had the opportunity to read this novel, I got it to read together. He LOVED it. I was just along for the reading adventure.
Naruto lost his chakra powers and needs help getting them back, no one really knows how chakra works, but Naruto finds the one scientist on the leading edge of chakra research and helps her (a little selfishly), but enemies are everywhere and Naruto's defenses are down. Can Naruto rely on his friends to help him find cure for his chakra and help defend his kingdom?
Es hat nichts mit der eigentlichen Naruto Geschichte zu tun, aber es ist cool als alleinstehende Story. Das Konzept war ziemlich cool, aber manche Cheraktere waren seltsam.
