RANTING BELOW. Trigger warning: discussing sexual assault

Ok, the first two volumes had disturbing trends of the MC H Rooster having consensual bird sex, front and center, with hens, whom he would just love and leave. Ok, they are animals, but anthropomorphic in that they speak, have feelings, think, use tools, fight and kill monsters to help humans and other animals, etc.

But the sex is used as "humor", with the second volume introducing one of the hens the rooster "loved and left" and she's pissed about it, understandably, It's in poor taste and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Well, the author decided to double down and on page TEN of this volume he has the HERO Rooster FORCING HIMSELF on unwilling hens. And it's SUPPOSED to be FUNNY.

He is forcing himself on a hen who is LITERALLY SCREAMING "NOOOOOO" and he's all like, "please just once". NO. SAYING PLEASE DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT. The other hens in the coop are freaking out and screaming about a perverted rooster and trying to escape the coop and him.

If he was a human and doing that on page to a fellow human, regardless of gender, that would NOT FLY.

He does get tased, but it's only after he's started to assault the poor hen yelling no.

Listen, sexual assault is NOT FUNNY. Forced groping, fondling, rape, IT IS NOT FUNNY. It is ALSO not something to use as a plot device for "character development" if it's not dealt with compassionately and with realistic reactions by those affected. I don't care if the characters are humans or animals or if it is meant as a joke, IT'S NOT FUNNY.

1, I will never pick up anything by this author again, stars.

This book is better in most ways than the previous two. There are stakes that seem more real, demons become more nuanced, and the relationship between the chickens is slightly more deepened.

There’s still some cringe stuff too, though. In the first volume there’s a demon that appears to be cross dressing and it’s weirdly shamed and killed, there’s humour revolving around the rooster fighter and wanting to jump every chicken he sees, which goes into weird sexual assault territory that always ends up being skirted because they’re animals, trying to keep some anthromorphization and shirk other aspects. It’s clearly very silly off the jump. A rooster that fights demons where humans seem to do nothing at all, but it’s still mostly just fun at it’s very best, and nothing more than that. Why it makes peoples’ top manga of all time, kind of makes me unenthusiastic to check out more from those lists, tbh.

OK, that was good. With the introductions and worldbuilding done for now. The stories in this volume was simple and less dumb. We have a demon that was just a nice guy who just wants to help. Then there is a classic hero verses nature story. I was entertained.

Rooster Damage Control

just another fine example why Keiji is the manliest rooster ever to roost with all the good and bad that comes from such potential testosterone. Whether trying to force himself upon chickens, taking blows to protect the innocent, showing the patience to not attack an obviously not aggressive demon, or pushing his limits to save a town we see the king of cock-a-doodle-doos fight on even as a video blogger's video has made him famous and the target of certain hoodlums along with the technologically savvy Elizabeth and the spirited Chicken Little. When it seems like the sky is falling with demons attacking people and shoddy craftmanship puts many lives in danger no one will call these heroes chicken (though they are.) :)

Another solid volume of demon slaying chickens. Mostly, they just saved a town from a flood in this one. Still totally digging the series, and there were some larfs.

I know some people are probably going to have a thought about the Rooster trying to force himself on the hens but welcome to reality guys, animals don't ask consent before mating. Whether they can talk or think like a person is, well pure fantasy, and irrelevant. They are animals. At least he used that above average intellect to ask the hens consent even if that was just him badgering her. I don't get hung up about these things at all on my fiction, but I'm sure it will make some people mad.

Keiji's journey, and antics, continue alongside his new found companions and we begin to see the world gain some depth throughout the events of this volume. Moving beyond the standard humor the series has employed thus far, the randy rooster encounters a new situation that forces him to re-think his current conceptions about the demon phenomena, and the reader, as well, is given more clues as to why this world is being overrun by demons. There is some interesting subtext emerging and I'm looking forward to the release of the next volume, as Keiji doesn't seem to be a one trick rooster anymore!

Best one yet? The roosters libido is under control and we get a story rhat is more complicated that the formulaic knocking down a demon with a cock-a-doodle-doo. If this becomes a long ongoing series, this volume will be the template for its success. I'm also fine with this ending in another volume or two.

This volume really tries to showcase the series has the ability to illicit emotions from its readers. With the introduction of a Demon who isn't as bad as the other demons the cast has come across and Elizabeth and Chicken Little doing all they can to help some people in need, their are some very palpitatble feel good moments in this installment.

This volume goes in depth with the complexities of these monsters, which I wasn't expecting. There is even more character development in not only Keiji but Elizabeth and some minor characters as well. The second and third volume definitely has more substance compared to the first volume, so I've enjoyed that. I found myself getting slightly emotional when reading this volume as the characters continue to build stronger relationships with each other and face more opposition.

The end of this volume was good but I could have done without the chapters with Kaiji basically committing SA on a bunch of hens at the start of the volume. I realize that I am anthopomorphizing a rooster…but so does the manga. Art is excellent as usual but the first few chapters were a no from me.

Rooster Fighter, vol. 3 continues to deliver on what is an absurd premise done extremely well with excellent art. Sakuratani can't keep getting away with this, but I really am looking forward to vol. 4. (I received a free ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.)

Keiji, Little Bird, and Elizabeth are on the run after a video goes viral. They end up facing off with an old enemy of Keiji's. Then Keiji and a demon face off against a flooding river. A nice addition to the series.

Continuing on with the Adventure!

I have read both previous volumes and each one just gets better and better. We learn more about the main characters, and get some action! I hope this series continues the quality storytelling.

My favourite volume so far. We meet a good kaiju and after the team split for a time, they band together to stop a tpwn from flooding, with the characteristic style by Sakuratani

Another action-packed volume about the demon-fighting, world-saving rooster. Some of the subplots are a bit much, but then again, this is a series about a demon-fighting rooster, so yeah.
