In a fast-paced new novel in the vein of Big Little Lies , a single mom goes undercover to investigate a host of disturbing secrets held by the leaders of a local suburban parent-school association, including embezzlement, bribery, adultery, and murder—by the bestselling author of Wish You Were Gone.

Paige Lancaster, single mom and prodigal daughter, has returned to the East Coast from her prestigious, well-paid job in Los Angeles, writing for the smartest detective series on television. Something terrible happened to her back in Hollywood. Okay, two terrible things, one featuring a misplaced tire iron—and now she’s broke, homeless, and living with her widowed mother and eight-year-old daughter, Izzy, in her Connecticut hometown.

Paige needs to buckle down and find a new writing gig but first, she meets the movers and shakers of Izzy’s school’s Parent Booster Association, run by the intimidatingly gorgeous Ainsley Anderson, who just happens to be married to Paige’s old high school flame, John.

Then she shows up at the annual Parents and Pinot fundraiser, held at Ainsley and John’s dazzling mansion in the toniest part of town, where she’s caught in a compromising position with John, accidentally destroys the guest bathroom, overhears an incriminating conversation, and discovers that her purse has gone missing. And later that night, Ainsley turns up dead at the bottom of her own driveway.

Did she fall? Or was she pushed?

Paige may have only written about detectives, but she is convinced she can handle a little undercover sleuthing. After all, it’ll give her an excuse to spend more time with John. Still, she can’t help but could he be capable of murder? Or could one of the PBA members have planned a dastardly crime to reach the top? But the most important question of will Paige ever get her life back on track?

Another gripping, intriguing and extremely entertaining book I had so much fun with!

The plot: Big Little Lies meets Desperate Housewives : perfect suburban mystery with lots of dirty secrets, misdemeanors including cheating, bribery, embezzlement and wait for it: MURDER! Nothing as it seems even in peaceful Connecticut.

The story told by three POVs: Paige at the age of 42, single mom, raising her 8 years old Izzy, returning back to her hometown, with her tail between her legs after losing her job as aspiring TV crime thriller series writer. After a tantrum she’s got restraining order from cheat ex, financially struggling Paige is forced to live at her mom’s house ( at least it’s rent free) and get socialized with suburban-nosy-gossipy wives who wear Burberry as their uniforms.

Layne: very competitive, mother of three hyperactive kids, dealing with her estranged husband who is never at home, getting ready to run Parent Booster Association when Ainsley Anderson leaves the position, working extra hard to impress Paige to convince her become one of their member at the association.

And Nina; super intelligent, asocial, resembling a righteous nun, finding out the embezzlement from parent booster association accounts. She tries to talk with Ainsley to warn the authorities about this situation but so far she gets ignored by everyone.

Ainsley Anderson is queen bee- typical narcissist, manipulative, power thirsty mean girl, married with Paige’s high school sweetheart and first love John!

When she threw one of her fundraising parties at her gorgeous mansion, Ainsley fought with three women at the same night. She got jealous when she caught John soothing Paige in his arms. She told Layne she wouldn’t resign from her position at booster association and threatened Layne about her big secret. Finally she threatened Nina to call the police for her hacking attempt.

Guess what? The same night she found death at the bottom of her own driveway! Was she pushed or was it an accident?
There are so many people who have motives to get rid of her including her lovely husband.

All the gossiping mothers whispering at the school ground that might not be an accident, pointing fingers at Paige: who is the ex lover of Ainsley’s husband.

The hot cop Dominic, who worked with Ainsley’s chief officer father, asking her to be his inside woman, sniffing around to find more secrets of Ainsley’s close friends.

As Paige starts digging more she realizes there are more dirt coming out and this peaceful small town is full of buried secrets and more misdemeanors!

It’s quick, exciting, captivating reading! I even enjoyed it more than the author’s first work! A must read for the fans of women’s fiction/ smart small town mysteries!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Paige Lancaster was a writer for a successful Detective series in L.A., but after getting passed up for a promotion that should have been hers-and losing her temper as a result-she now finds herself broke, homeless, and back to living with her widowed Mom, with her eight year old daughter, Izzy, in the town she grew up in.

Her daughter Izzy’s first couple of days at school don’t go very well. Paige is late for pick-up-struggles to parallel park her car since she hasn’t done so since 11th grade-runs into her high school boyfriend John (awkward) and has all of this witnessed by the perfectly put together mothers who run the Parent Booster Association for the elementary school-participation 💯 %.

These women were probably your typical mean girls, now all grown up and with prestigious husbands, money and nothing better to do but plan elaborate fund raisers for the school and blackmail each other!

But, when the President of the PBA, John’s wife Ainsley, gets murdered-suspicion is cast on Paige-because she and John were caught alone, at the annual Parents and Pinot 🍷Party.

Having written for a cop show for years, Paige knows how this goes-They look at the husband first…but if he gets cleared…his former lover is scrutinized next…

Maybe, Paige can use what she has learned from writing for the Detective show to do some undercover sleuthing of her own, and get closer to the Hot Cop, Dominic Ramos, in the process?

Although I didn’t enjoy this book as much as her last “Wish You Were Gone” it did keep me entertained.

I was expecting (and would have enjoyed) more “sleuthing” and less “mama drama” but if you like stories with plenty of dirty laundry-this one is for you!

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up!

If you liked Big Little Lies, you'll like this one!

Regrets Only is a fast-paced ride through the lives of the spoiled, privileged members of a Connecticut school Parent Booster Association. After losing her television writing job and her relationship in California, Paige packs up her eight-year-old daughter Izzy and the two move back in with Paige's mother in her hometown. Paige meets the queen bee members of the PBA right away: Bee, Dayna, and Laine know everything and everyone knows them. They are led by the president of the PBA, Ainsley, who just-so-happens to be married to John, Paige's former high school sweetheart. After a "Parents and Pinot" party at Ainsley's house, Ainsley ends up dead from a fall. Was it an accident or murder?

I was supremely entertained by this book from start to finish. We alternate between a few different points of view which keeps the book fresh and moving quickly. Like Scott's previous novel Wish You Were Gone, the short chapters make this one compulsively readable. The characters were fun to read about and the secrets they are hiding are intriguing. The ending solution is a bit OTT, but it's forgivable because the story is interesting throughout. If you like juicy tales about the privileged, you will enjoy this offering.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.

the setup…
Paige Lancaster is a television writer, most recently for a successful detective series until she left under dubious circumstances. She’s also a single mother of 8-year old Izzy and leaves Los Angeles, returning to her Connecticut hometown of Piermont to regroup and restore her career while living with her widowed mother. On Izzy’s first day of school, Paige is “confronted” by the driving forces behind the Parent Booster Association (PBA) and soon runs afoul of them. There’s Lanie Chen-Kadapodis who is primed to become the next president; Bee Dolan who is sort of the earth mom in the group and Dayna Goodman who on the surface seems to be the most grounded of them all. But it’s the powerful current president Ainsley who’s the most formidable of them all that poses the biggest problem for Paige. See, she’s married to Paige’s high school sweetheart John Anderson and later catches the two of them in a private moment at their home during a community party that goes wrong. The next morning, Ainsley is found dead at the bottom of some stairs outside her home. Did she fall or was she pushed?

the heart of the story…
Grab your popcorn and get ready for a fun ride! While the story is told from several points of view, it’s Paige’s narrative that’s the driver and her wry, irreverent wit sets the pace and intrigue. It’s clear that Ainsley was the town’s “Queen Bee” and everyone sought her acceptance, wanting to be part of her orbit. When she dies, the challenge is not only to determine if it’s murder but who was truly a friend or up to a private agenda. Everyone has some serious secrets that can also be a motive for getting rid of Ainsley. I admit that my opinions shifted often, especially when the hottie police officer drafts Paige to be his eyes and ears and she takes that role seriously. Her investigative skills were stellar given the show she researched and wrote for, coming up with lots of stuff to chew on.

the narration…
Thank goodness multiple narrators were used because they helped to deftly define and distinguish these women, which became important early on. I enjoyed all of their performances, especially that for Paige as her personality came through perfectly. The storytelling and pacing was wonderful.

the bottom line…
What drew me to the story was the comparison to Big Little Lies and the dynamics were certainly similar. But it’s a completely different animal in terms of plot and characters though just as entertaining. I loved seeing the community through Paige’s lens as she wasn’t seeking admittance to the “club,” nor was she intimidated by them…well…except when she needed to be. The mystery of Ainsley’s death brought all kinds of revelations and the journey was even more exciting than the final answers, which was exactly what I’d hoped for. I had a very good time and was happy with that ending. Do it on audio if you have the option.

What a wild ride this book was! In the vein of Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies and Jeneva Rose’s One of Us is Dead, this fun domestic suspense takes us into the world of private schools and PTAs (or in this case PBAs) when cut throat school mom’s vie for office - with deadly consequences.

I listened to this on audio and though it was super entertaining and the narrator did a great job bringing the characters to life , there were so many of them that needed introductions, I struggled to keep track of everyone. This would probably be a great immersive read starting with the ebook or physical book and switching over to audio once you’ve established who’s who.

Sometimes a book comes at the right time and provides you with the perfect escape, and that my friends is Kieran Scott’s upcoming release, REGRETS ONLY. The story is Big Little Lies meets Real Housewives meets My Summer Darlings—so you already know I’m going to love it.

The story focuses on several women living in an affluent Connecticut suburban town where rich mom politics rule and everyone needs to play the part. Paige Lancaster has moved back home and in with her mother after her father has passed. Paige is a successful writer for one of the most popular detective series on television, but now she’s picking her daughter up and driving carpool. When Paige bumps into former boyfriend and realizes his now wife is the queen bee, she knows she’s in for some trouble. That trouble escalated when his wife was found dead after a scandalous charity event. What is at play here?!

I love rich people dramas, sorry but I do! This was my first read by Kieran Scott, and I’m so happy I picked this book up. Fun and juicy, but also unique, REGRETS ONLY is a fun ride into a world many try to join and only realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I look forward to see what this author has next for readers!

This is your typical domestic thriller loaded with rich, bored housewives, their fading husbands, their bratty kids - classic, and enjoyable! There isn’t anything brilliant about this, but it was an entertaining read.

Paige is our protagonist. She moved to Connecticut from California after “an incident”, and she and her daughter Izzy are now living with her mother. She’s coming up on middle-age, she’s pretty much starting fresh, and aside from her daughter, she isn’t feeling like there’s much more to life.

Along comes Ainsley, President of the PBA (no, not PTA, this is the Parent’s Booster Association, and nothing less than 100% involvement is acceptable). She and her lackeys - Lanie, Bee and Dayna - run the school and the town. Ainsley is married to John, Paige’s high school boyfriend, and isn’t happy that Paige is back in town. The other ladies aren’t so sure about Paige either…

One night after a booster party, Ainsley is found dead. Did she fall, or was she murdered? If it was the latter, which of the people with a grudge could it be? This turns into a classic whodunnit, with a lot of neighborhood drama, as the book goes through finding out how Ainsley died.

As I mentioned, this wasn’t brilliant, but it was definitely engaging and slightly humorous. It wasn’t deep, the characters were clichés, and the whole situation was pretty implausible. However, I liked it despite these things - I don’t think this was supposed to be deep, it was just supposed to be good. And it was! Four stars for being an enjoyable book that kept me entertained the whole way through.

(Thank you to Gallery Books, Kieran Scott, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on January 10, 2023.)

When a book is compared to Big Little Lies I’m always curious and then if the book lives up to the comparison I’m thrilled. I’m happy to say I think the comp was pretty spot on here, it had that same juicy and entertaining feel to it. I’m such a sucker for suburban dramas featuring rich and entitled people behaving badly and this one had plenty of those types making questionable decisions. I loved all the secrets the characters were keeping and while some of them were fairly obvious I was still wildly entertained by them. There are several viewpoints that switch back and forth between chapters and I enjoyed the bird’s eye overlook of what was going in the characters lives and the town in general. Some of the characters actually made me laugh so despite this being super dramatic I also found it to be humorous. Overall I definitely recommend as a fun popcorn thriller.

description

This was chocked full of secrets, drama, and murder…seriously everyone has secrets in this. The author took all these elements and made them into a rather engaging story. Sometimes a whole lot of drama can feel eye-rollingly overdone, but not so in this. I highly recommend it for when you feel the need for some fun in your thrillers.

…about the narration
➨ 🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️🎙️/5

➨ Amanda Dolan, Sura Siu, & Lanna Joffrey. Okay, it’s possible that each one of these narrators had two different characters that they narrated for, or two of them had only one character, while the third had more than two characters. I don’t really know how it was divided but I do know; it was fantastically performed, either way.

Regrets Only by Kieran Scott

4.5/5

When Paige Lancaster returns home to the East Coast she brings her secrets with her. She knew she’d face a string of obstacles being a single mom to Elementary-aged Izzy. But meeting the PTA moms was more drama than she ever thought possible. Miss Queen bee Ainsley Anderson is now married to Paige’s ex, and is at the center of all the drama and parties. Ainsley lives a life of luxury and privilege until she’s found dead one morning by her husband, apparently falling from her estate and plunging to her death. Was it an accident or was it murder?

After reading a few “buzz-kills” of books I was so happy that this book hooked me from the start and kept me engaged throughout. It was my first time reading this authors work and I’m loving her writing style. Will be reading more of her work.

Once Ainsley is found dead, I thought the author did a good job at making each lady look like the perpetrator. Any one of the other PTA moms, or their husbands, could have been guilty. This always makes for a better read when you can’t really guess who the killer is.

The characters are well-built and the storyline is almost perfect. I’m still a little confused by the ending, I think this was done on purpose - obviously it was, but the ending has me questioning everything.

This book has it all: embezzlement, bribery, adultery, murder, gambling, mole for the police, investigation, home invasion, burglary, hidden spy cameras, and so much more. A must read for any thriller lover.

I would recommend to any fan of domestic thrillers.

I may be reading too many books about groups of women and am now having a difficult time processing these numerous rich housewife stories. Such was the case for me with Regrets Only. It was a struggle for me to finish the book since I didn't care about any of the characters. From the reviews I have read I am in the minority on this one but it just wasn't a satisfying read for me.

For fans of Big Little Lies, Desperate Housewives and Bad Moms. Filled with secrets and drama, this was pretty entertaining. I found myself chuckling at all the women. Are Mom's really fighting over PTA positions? We practically have to beg people to volunteer but I have seen eras of the PTA that have been a bit exclusive and catty. As the current treasurer there is no way I would let any of these shenanigans fly.

After awhile I was kind of over it all and rolled my eyes a few times.

If you like rich people behaving badly and can roll with the punches then give this one a go.

As always, one of my top favorite tropes in a book. Bored, rich, sneaky backstabbing housewives with way too much time on their hands. Paige moves back to her mother's house where she grew up. This community holds the "Who's who" of uber rich families. Ainsley Ames Anderson is the Queen Bee of of the town. She and her closest friends run the PBA for their children's school and is something they take very seriously. Fundraisers, Trunk or Treats, Thankful Thanksgiving Dinner.. these ladies live for this stuff. After one of the Andersons annual parties, Ainsley is found dead at the bottom of her stairs. Paige overheard a few things she shouldn't have at the party. Things like felony, blackmail, and...embezzlement?? She also heard Ainsley threatening to ruin one of her friends lives. Everyone's keeping secrets. Everyone has so much to lose. The family that looks perfect on the outside, usually has the most to hide on the inside. I don't know what it is about this, but I will never get enough of this kind of book. They really entertain me and makes for great reading. The book is a time-line between Paige, and some of Ainsley closest inner circle. If I had any negatives about this book, I would say it was mostly these woman making wild assumptions. Some of them threw me off slightly, because they were so out there. But I think it just goes with how unhinged most of this group was. The ending was completely out of left field and I'm not 100% sure how I feel about that. I think it could have been something different but I'm not an author, so there's that. It seemed very far fetched and had nothing to do with absolutely anything, and almost seemed it was thrown in plucked out of nowhere. Still doesn't change my mind or rating of the book, as odd as it is.

if you liked big little lies, this is a must read.

paige lancaster is back in her hometown. she doesn’t want to stay for long, but somehow gets involved with PTA queen bees, and a murder investigation.
i love a good small town, house wife drama and this was perfect. the characters were so off the wall & i loved it.
the pacing was quick, and it made for a really easy read. i enjoyed the short chapters and different povs. the plot twists were there! i did feel like the whole death of ainsley was ambiguous & kinda left unresolved.
i definitely was shocked when the truth came out about what was going on, and i think the author set it up really well. you could definitely go back and see the signs once you figured it out.
we get a smidge of romance between paige & another character. i actually really enjoyed it. i thought it was cute!
the ending wrapped up really well, and made for a sweet ending. i’m happy with how everything turned out.
this was a solid read!

Paige returns home to Connecticut with her daughter to live with her mother, who is now a widow. On her daughter's first day of school, she runs into her old boyfriend John who is now married and a father. She is also welcomed by the Parent Booster Association ladies and learns the head of the group, Ainsley, is married to John. When Ainsley is found dead, Paige uses her sleuthing skills to figure out what really happened to Ainsley.

I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. I loved the different points of view from all the ladies as it kept the story interesting. I had my suspicions as to what happened and I was close to figuring this one out. I highly recommend it, if you like stories filled with drama and a lot of secrets!

THIS HAD ME HOOKED LIKE A DAMN FISH.

It's nothing but PTA housewife drama and I was here for it. I could not stop turning the pages. I finished it in a day.

What I loved most:
• Multiple POVs added to the suspense and made it feel like every chapter was a cliffhanger. I had to know what happened next.
• Hot cop is hot.
• Drama, drama, drama. Sometimes you just want to read about a bunch of rich people with secrets behaving badly. This was like trashy reality tv you can’t peel your eyes away from.
• The ending totally surprised me, which is saying a lot for this serial thriller ending guesser.

I can’t recommend this one enough.

I read this book in one day because it kept me guessing from start to finish.

After Paige gets fired from her job and moves home under troubling circumstances, she finds herself surrounded by a group of perfect stepford-like moms who runs the schools PBA. But, when you scratch the surface nothing is as perfect as it once appeared.

As someone who was once heavily involved in an elementary school PTA, I’ll admit I laughed a lot during this novel. I really liked that the mystery kept me guessing and the big reveal left me satisfied.

Overall I really liked this novel.

2.5 stars… I was in the mood for a neighborhood suspense, so I thought Regrets Only, having been compared to Big Little Lies, would fit that bill. However, I found it to be boring and lacked suspense and character development. I liked the multiple POVs and the writing was solid - this book had potential but unfortunately, it just wasn't for me.

Regrets Only by Kieran Scott
328-page Kindle Ebook

Genre:Thriller > Mystery Thriller; Mystery, Adult Fiction, Suspense

Featuring: School Moms, Connecticut, Eccentric Names, Affluent Volunteers, Screenwriter, PBA [PTA], Multiple POVs, Guns, Hot Cop

Rating as a movie: R for adult content

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 🔖Page 22 of 328 Nina - The prologue was a bomb, and so far, this is great. Just the right amount of domesticated drama with suspenseful undertones. Something isn't right here. 😁
🔖217 Paige - I'm not loving it, but I'm close to-. At this point, it depends on how it will end. I feel like it could be 5 stars or barely 4 stars. There's a lot of potential, little to no lulls, and enough information that you are successfully sucked in with only a vague idea of what's actually going on. Perfect for quick suspense with low risks of the reader solving it before the reveals.

It wasn't quite 5-star but close enough on Goodreads. I liked it a lot, will be looking for more from this author, the About Author says she writes middle grade and YA under the pseudonym Kate Brian, I couldn't find the middle-grade but the YA looks like private high school drama, unfortunately so does the other titles under Kieran Scott. I'm hoping she writes more domestic thrillers with 40-year-old characters.

Recommend to others?: Yes. If you like Mystery Thrillers that are domestic or have a scholastic setting and/or Mom Drama, this book is for you.

Regrets Only....

I have a regret to share, I regret not reading this book sooner!

Regrets Only has plagued social media for the past month. Multiple times I had told myself "this is your next book" but you know, life can sometimes get in the way. Well, I finally made some "me time" and got to sit down with this award winning novel.

When it came to Regrets Only, I had wanted to challenge myself and go in blind. I didn't want to read the synopsis or the reviews, I wanted to go in completely blank and feel each twist, turn, and emotion without warning. Boy, was I in for a treat.

I had read Wish You Were Gone, also by Kieran Scott this summer, so I knew that I would enjoy the writing style and with having seen it literally ALL OVER BOOKSTAGRAM, I knew I was going to love this book.

Love?

How about Obsessed.

As you have all seen with my prior posts, I am a sucker for some good ole "mama drama" . Desperate Housewives? Check. Catty women who have nothing better to do than torture one another? Check.

This book oozed secrets and deceit. I was completely consumed early on and there was no way I was going to put this one down. I mean, lets be serious, it took me way too long to pick it up!

I was in, completely consumed and adrift from reality.

This was a fast paced, drama packed thriller that will keep you on the edge of your toes. I enjoyed the multiple points of view and the realism of the characters. The exposure of secrets was done with perfection and like I had previously stated, my only regret is not having picked this one up sooner.

Learn from my mistakes, buy the book.

I will leave you with this.... not everything is what it seems.

Teaser :

Still, she can’t help but wonder: could he be capable of murder? Or could one of the PBA members have planned a dastardly crime to reach the top? But the most important question of all: will Paige ever get her life back on track?

Thank you Simon & Schuster Audio for the ALC and @BookClubFavorites & Gallery Books #partner, for the finished copy of Regrets Only in exchange for my honest review.

This is the first book I’ve read by Kieran Scott, but when I saw it was being comped to Big Little Lies, I knew I had to request it…and I’m so glad I did! I absolutely loved it! It’s such a fun, binge-worthy read that I devoured in one afternoon!

Give me all the drama and secrets amongst the mom groups! I may not be a mom myself, but that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy all the drama this group seems to attract. This domestic suspense kept me engaged and entertained all the way through as we come to find that they all have their secrets so that when one of the group winds up dead, none are without motive.

I loved how this story was told from multiple perspectives, allowing us to get the story from different eyes throughout. It really brought out the different personalities and made for such a wild ride. It kept me guessing all the way through and I have to say I was quite shocked when all the pieces were finally put together.

I quite enjoyed this book and will definitely be checking out Kieran Scott’s other books, especially if they are as fun as this one!

Audio thoughts: This was such a deliciously entertaining audiobook! It is narrated by multiple narrators – Amanda Dolan, Sura Siu, and Lanna Joffrey – and I thought they all did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. I ended up binge-listening to it in one afternoon because I just couldn’t put it down once I started…I was that hooked!

Thank you to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Kieran Scott for the advanced copy of Regrets Only in exchange for my honest review.

This book is exactly what I needed to get out of the reading rut I've been in lately. Drama, alternating POVs, and a bunch of petty characters with secrets galore. If you were a fan of Big Little Lies, I can almost guarantee you will enjoy this book just as much!

Whenever I thought I had a certain mystery figured out, I was never actually right, which is an element I will always appreciate in books.

This was admittedly my first read by Scott, but I can't wait to read her debut novel Wish You Were Gone after enjoying this one so thoroughly!

Regrets Only will be on US bookshelves January 10!

I judge a book by its cover and this cover had me prepared for some excitement! The prologue had me so intrigued that I thought this would be the book of 2023. Let me say that the prologue was the peak of the book and it quickly went downhill from there. I have never been so inattentive with a book that I even considered cleaning toilets instead of reading (reading is the best way to pass time). Do not waste your time on this book. Think of it as a poor version of Pretty Little Liars, and a PTA group from Bad Moms. Had high hopes for this novel.
