You Are a Badass meets Grit in this powerhouse guide to overcoming your fear and finding the confidence within—from Christie’s ambassador and author of the “insightful, inspiring” ( New York Journal of Books ) The Most Powerful Woman in the Room Is You .
“How do I become more confident?” is the question Lydia Fenet hears almost every time she speaks to women across the country.
Navigating a two-decade career at the world’s leading auction house while raising three children, Lydia had her own journey of learning self-assurance. Through stories of overcoming challenges in both her work and personal lives, she demonstrates that confidence isn’t something that only some people are born with; rather, it’s inside every one of us, waiting to be claimed. Claim Your Confidence offers case studies, insights, and advice on how
- Harness the Power of Positivity - Slam Your Imposter Syndrome - Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable - Grow Your Mindset
And more!
From building up the courage to do what scares you the most to persisting when all you want to do is give up, get ready to claim your confidence and get the life you want.
Unfortunately I didn’t find what I was looking for with this one. I was searching for confidence and how to harness it but Fenet gave life stories on her confidence. These were engaging and interesting but I felt they lacked the “claiming” guide the book claimed it would give. I did enjoy the last chapter where she discusses trauma and being okay, but this doesn’t exactly connect to confidence, or does it? I’m still searching for that I guess. I’d say this was more a memoir or a collection of life stories then a self help book.
It takes a LOT for me to willingly pick up a non-fiction book. And it takes a SUPER good book to actually get me to finish a non-fiction book. This book is about as good as non-fiction can get for me. I loved reading little chunks of it throughout the 9 days I read it. Each day I would remember a chapter I had just read and would try to apply it to my life. Honestly, it was a game-changer in my week. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to claim their confidence in life. I especially recommend it to people who want to gain confidence but struggle with non-fiction. I absolutely loved this book, and I think it says a lot that I (someone who can get through romance and fantasy books with no problem but every other genre is a battle) loved the book. Definitely recommend.
I don’t always give star reviews to nonfiction, but I seriously believe that everyone can learn from this book. I requested this book on @netgalley expecting it to be another typical self-help book, but the formatting and content was better than most.
I actually felt on multiple occasions that she was calling me out specifically in this book. I’ve already recommended it to some of my irl friends, and once it comes out on paperback I will be buying a copy for myself. It’s too good not to share.
I think there are some really great pieces of advice here and if you are on the fence, I’d recommend you read it and sees if it resonants with you. It skewed too much into the power of positive thinking for my taste and I didn’t think it grapples with the uneven distribution of opportunities and resources that hold many people back.
What a great book full of helpful information. I wish I would have had this book before I retired. I used to have to go to meetings and speak. I always got so nervous and wanted to call in sick the day of a meeting. It still helps me through day to day living. Everyone is born with confidence rather you know it or not. We just have to push ourselves into a comfort zone when we are feeling like we can't do something. Lydia Fenet what a good book. I am going to pass this helpful book on to my twenty one year old daughter who is getting ready to graduate college and start a new career. Highly recommend.
Lydia as a person fascinates me. I think I enjoyed the snippets that were more autobiographical than the parts on telling me how to be a strong woman. I could not relate to her or the brief snippets at the end of each chapter as the women/companies were simply out of my league and not living in the same world as I do. . As with any self-help book- I am uncertain who should be reading this- the average woman or the rich and powerful women who are in the same circle the author. I think a more interesting book would have been an autobiography and inside view of the auction world.
I started out really enjoying the personal stories, but so many of them were based on when she was a charity auctioneer. Not to say they got less enjoyable but every for instance was "back when I was a charity auctioneer" and that got a little drawn out. I liked it about as much as I like any self help. That is to say it was alright. The secret to claiming your confidence? Fake it til you make it and naive positivity.
I really loved this book. Lydia’s words of encouragement and affirmations created a sense personal connection between author and reader—like a quiet, steady presence reminding you of your worth. Her writing felt deeply personal, like she saw the parts of you that doubted and chose to believe in you anyway. Reading this felt less like reading a book, and more like having a mom or friend by your side encouraging you.
Good book! I loved the last chapter, everything that she said (I listened to the audiobook) she meant it so I felt she was talking from the heart like a dear old friend. I just don't give 5 stars because it is not new information for me, but I believe many people, especially young ones, can learn a lot from the life experiences of Lydia that she talks about it in this book.
The book definitely has some points that are useful for everyday life, however the author often becomes too self-referential and I found this kind of tiring because it made it hard for me to isolate her advice and apply it to my own circumstances.
Interesting read for those seeking self-help and improvement. The author adds encouraging stories from successful women, such as influencers and business owners.

I'd love to rate this book 7 stars! It's so good! Normally, I am reading a chapter counting down the pages till the end when I am tired, but this kept me awake and "on the edge of my seat" the entire time. She is inspiring, encouraging and debunks the normal cliches they are thrown at women.
I absolutely loved this book, it’s extremely inspiring! "Claim Your Confidence" is an empowering guidebook that encourages readers to embrace their true potential, overcome self-doubt, and step into a more confident and fulfilling life.
I loved this book, it helped get me through a tough time in my life. I’d read it all over again just for chapter 10 alone which was absolutely life changing for me and my outlook on life!! Overall, a great read that has truly changed the way I think about things! Highly recommend
I really like Lydia Fenet and think she’s awesome which is why I think this got 4 stars from me. Was it groundbreaking in terms of a self help book? No it wasn’t. But it was good. Her first is better in terms of personal development
Great, practical reminders to women about what real confidence is (asking and accepting help, saying no, saying yes!) And not what centuries have wrongly taught. Great stories from the author and others.
Listened to the audiobook and it was really enjoyable! Although some information was not new, I loved listening to Fenet's stories and her takeaways from them. Although I can't relate to her career as a charity auctioneer, I know I can be more intentional in adopting such a mindset in my life

Listened and loved! I've met Lydia a few times and she signed this book for me. But I loved listening to her read it. She always has great stories and advice!
Just received a copy of this book. What I liked right away is there is no need to read cover-to-cover, rather, you can look up a chapter that interests you and dive in that way. Great information from women with lots of life experience. Always good to get a new perspective.
Watch my full thoughts here! https://youtu.be/Ukb8nh7V7Qc I feel like I could be friends with Lydia after reading listening to this book; she narrates it and does just a fabulous job. I loved her tips and tricks for honing in on your confidence and how to grow it in certain areas of your live. Thank you Simon and Schuster Audio for the chance to listen to this amazing novel, and thank you Lydia for writing it!
