Against all odds, Rob and the Deserters have survived their second encounter with the eldritch abomination known as the Blight – only for Rob to make first contact with the gods of Elatra in a very...aggressive way. His enemies keep on piling up, and things are looking to get even tougher from here on out. If Rob and his friends want to survive their upcoming trials, they'll need to gain Levels, make new allies, and travel to the ends of the world and back again. Along the way, they'll discover some of the secrets behind Elatra's history, shaking their preconceptions of the world to its very core.
But what else is new? Rob has known for a long time that nothing was going to be easy. He's lost count of how many times he's almost died since being dragged through a portal against his will. Whether he's up against monsters, gods, or creatures beyond comprehension, Rob is determined to overcome any obstacle in his path. He'll protect his friends, find a way home, and above all, survive.
Hello all you lovely people! My name is Brett - a.k.a. KamikazePotato - and I've been a massive fan of fantasy stories since the first time I first picked up a book. Over the years, I've devoured well over 100 fantasy novels, dozens of fantasy video games, plenty of fantasy TV shows and movies...you get the idea.
Naturally, this made me want to create a fantasy world of my own. Around the time I decided to sit down and write a story I would actually share with everyone, I also got into the LitRPG genre, and here we are.
I plan to write plenty more stories in this genre, and to spread my wings out to other genres as well! Writing is a joy, and so is getting to see people enjoy what I've created.
This was a good third instalment of KamikazePotato’s Outcast in Another World Series. The series is both portal fantasy and LitRPG. Our lead character, Rob, was sucked into a mysterious portal that deposited him in a fantasy world with an RPG style magic system. The series has a solid mix of action, intrigue, mystery and fun character dynamics.
I’ve found a lot of LitRPG series fade badly in quality once you get past the first or second instalment but I’m happy to say that was not an issue for this series. This third book was the strongest in the series so far. It lacked the odd lull sports of the first two books and even the action scenes were getting more engaging and exciting.
Rob remains a likeable lead and he is supported by a good cast of secondary characters. This is a well drawn fantasy world with some cool magic and fantasy creatures.
It was a highlight to meet the Fiends and the Merfolk in this instalment.
Rating: 3.5 stars. I’ll round up to 4 stars.
Audio Note: Neil Hellegers did a decent job with the audio. If he had a flaw it is that he struggles with the female dialogue.
This can best be described by one word, that word is bloated.
This is a horrible world filled with emotionally broken people, I get that. The first book was excellent because it defined those characters as well as it did, and their interactions with the Village and each other. Book two fell down because it gave direction but did nothing to advance the story once that was done. With book three I expected that missing story, especially given the length of the book. It failed. Until the very last bit, the characters are identical to how they are at the end of book one. This includes all their interactions and one liners, making them boring and predictable. The story can be told in less than three hundred pages, the rest is simply filler. This is setting up twists and surprises that are obvious. The writing has just gotten lazy.
KamikazePotato slays with his third book of the Outcast Series. I mentioned it before, but I'll say it again... I love this world and the characters in it that he has created. Rob changing others' bigoted views, Mayneth and her meddling in everyone's love lives (SO EFFING FUNNY), Keira and Rob FINALLY confessing their love to each other and all the members in Riardin's Rangers kicking arse and taking names just - I'm so happy and so bloody excited for what's to come next that I refuse to use any more commas and periods in this
First of all, this book definitely shouldn't be this biggg. A lot of filler materials and unwanted romance scenes made this book less fun than previous entries.
The fun aspects from the previous books are still present in this one but this should have easily been cut down to 200 pages.
This has been a good series. I feel a connection with Rob and the rest of his group. Despite there terrible circumstances there is a feeling of family. That they are in this together. Despite how bad things are there isn't the despair that most people would experience. The odds are so against them it isn't funny, but they just do what they have to do. It is a long book and can be overly wordy at times. Overall I really enjoyed it. If you liked the previous 2 books you will like this one.
I can't stand the MC; as much as I hate abridged books, I'd love a version of this series with Rob's inane inner/outer ramblings excised. Who the hell prioritizes getting back to their best friend (who is on a DIFFERENT F'ING WORLD/DIMENSION) over the hot elf that reciprocates his love for them? The incongruous nature of his character makes each successive book more of chore to finish than the last. It's like the author is trolling the readers at this point.
4.5. It'd be a full 5 if it was 100 or so pages shorter. As it was, despite the fact that I like the story, it started to drag by the 2/3 mark. Nothing a bit of ruthless editing couldn't fix, and I look forward to book 4. Which will hopefully be a bit more focused.
The author purged the crybaby MC and actually had more action than feelings time. The middle school like romance FINALLY moves forward.
I just have to say that the authors assumptions that spreading the levels out amongst all the ranger is dead wrong. I am a very experienced raider and paper in several mmo games. The stronger your overall group is the betterw chances at winning you have. Raid groups for dungeons can be between 20 to 75 players depending on the game and the dungeon. Once again. The lack.of raid groups for the dungeons pretty much shows this author knows nothing about gaming. Also the fact Rob is a bezerker which is a damage dealer class but has a build just like a Paladin. Bezerker use dual/two handed swords/axes not just one sword and have far more damage abilities.
I wish someone who plays fantasy mmos would write these type of stories it would be so much less of a agrivation for those of us that do. Even with the huge mistakes the story is good so got 4 stars just becaue of that.
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed this book! Was picking it up whenever I had any free time all week, because, honestly it was just so fun for me! The character interactions felt natural, and the love and affection they all feel for each other really shone through. I really appreciated all the emotional moments in this book, especially seeing the gang grow even closer and learn more about each other. Then, there were the crazy plot developments! I was always genuinely excited to see where the author would take us next! At least personally I was never left bored or wanting. There wasn’t really a “slow moment” lol (poor guys have been through so much). Not to say there wasn’t any time for the characters to breathe, just that when they did, the interesting emotional complexities and fun friendship dynamics made for a lovely time resting. Something else I really enjoyed was that the author made sure to write out how the aforementioned crazy effects impacted the characters! I mean, these people /are/ incredible, and certainly not your average Joe, but despite them pushing past what most normal people would be able to take, it just felt very human to me. The more antagonistic characters weren’t skimped on either! Regardless of their opposing role to our main heroes, the author made sure to give us plenty of moments to see inside their heads and show us their depth/motivations. Mostly I ended up sympathizing with them, despite still getting a distinctly “icky” feeling at their words and actions. If I didn’t sympathize with them, I definitely felt I understood them, which personally I really enjoyed. It felt like it brought a lot of nuance to the whole experience. I guess to end it off; tysm for reading if you got this far lol. I mostly wanted to support the author with a review because they said it helps em out, but hopefully my word-vomit rambling helped you out too :) Anyways, this book was really interesting to me plot-wise (seriously it’s crazy. lots of things are revealed. it’s super cool), and character wise I loved seeing them grow and interact! I even chuckled out loud and squealed a few times from the warm fuzzy feelings their interactions gave me lol. Highly recommend ya give it a try! If you’re this far along already it’ll probably do the same for you. And really, we could all use a little more warmth in our lives, yeah?
It's probably a bit better than three stars, but per my own personal evaluation scoring, which is - you know - what I'm doing here, the language really destroys it for me. Enough that I think I'm finished with the series. Which is too bad. It's also a bad sign when you start to scour the book for chapters related to a character who is NOT the main character, which is what I've been doing toward the end of the book here. The MC has his issues - I get that. All the characters do, which is what rounds them out. But Rob just enjoys too much introspection. And I'm not enjoying that. Don't get me wrong, please. The writing is good, the battles excellent, the plot seems a bit over-complicated. The first two books were fabulous (minus the language - note to authors: If I cannot read the book out loud to my wife or to children, then you're missing a large audience out there. You can be witty without profanity, although the authors of the Deadpool movies never figured that out, did they?)
So, yeah, I think I'm done with this one. Jump in, you lovers of LitRPG. You'll like it for a while.
Rob makes a alliance with the fiends to defeat the blight permanently .
Rob with 2000 elves journey north to human territory to escape the blight an it's destruction . They must overcome land mines to enter the territory clear and dungeon an remove blight from the city they arrive at with the corrupt of the blight it destroyed the crops available an must move on or starve . Upon arriving at the second city they are attacked by an adult blight it's protected by an magical dome around the city casculties are sustained entering the city 400 elves lost their lives then set upon by fiends only peace is made by Rob learning their language. So an alliance is formed .recommend reading excellent series .
Fantasy LitRPG This is three novels in one; almost 1,100 pages, though if the blank lines were replaced with indents, it would still be about 850. There are four or five chapters that are strictly stat records of the MC, Rob the human Berserker. Still not a fan of using ellipses to begin sentences; otherwise, it is well edited. Some basics were missed, so I'm thinking the author is young. First, the only bones in a shark are its jaw and its teeth, the rest is cartilage. Second, the indirect term for royalty is your majesty, not your grace (latter refers to a duke).
There's plenty of action and leveling, and all sex is inferred off stage, so suitable for YA, though there's plenty of swearing and gory battle scenes. With all the running, it can seem a bit long, and there was a time or two when we had the same scene from another perspective. Thankfully, those were few. Decent read and will likely continue the series.
Promosso!
This has been one of my best experiences with the LitRPG genre. Well written by any standard. My favorite part of this has been the growth of the characters and their powers as they take on more difficult challenges. The progression has been done very well, and I have particularly enjoyed reading the descriptions of some of the coolest fight scenes ever.
OK! anywhozer, i KNOW...Rob had a little brother mentioned in book 2... I'm going to reread it right after i'm done writing this...BUT I'M SO FRIGGING POSITIVE!!! The fact that Rob mentioned "because i never had a sibling" what-2-3 times?- i really think i'm not wrong.... either the author messed up, I messed up, or noticed something!
...Suddenly Diplomacy and all of the gods are "they" instead of "it" or w/e, and not even consistently. Was just irritating to listen to, and I don't think I'll bother listening to the rest of the series when it eventually comes out. To me, this WAS a 5 star series before this garbage was inserted into it, but I have better things to do with my time rather than listen to the author trying to adapt to... gender sensitivity? Thanks, but no.
The book had me feeling like I was being wrung out emotionally, and that's a good thing. I feel invested in the story. There were parts that seemed a bit long and dry, but the majority of the book was an adrenaline rush. I had hoped that at least one of a seldom seen group would be worth their existence, but alas I'm now priming my pitchfork with Elders Aleesia and Duran. Mayneth is absolutely hilarious. I want more of her blunt meddling.
Good enough for a speed read. world building has stagnated to predictable status. Story with lot of potential is now subject to some common tropes and lazy adventures. Still intresting enough that want to continue this series whenever the next installment is released.
I truly hope there is more to the story. I truly enjoyed reading these three books and I can easily see this as a very long series. Love the character builds. Not a fan of the God's name in vain thing could choose better . But all in all I'll continue reading this series until you stop. Thanks for such an enjoyable ride.
Very well written, it's tough to keep the balance of increasing odds vs abilities with out going off the rails. The author manages to not only keep the book on track but keeps the pace going with out losing its initial appeal. Too much of the impossible becomes mundane, but the author does a great job and spins a great tale
It’s been a long time since I’ve read a series that’s captured me in a way that I become emotionally invested. I’ve laughed, cried, felt sorrow and smiled for joy while reading the 3rd book. I cannot recommend this series enough it has everything and more. I look forward to robs next chapter!
Being new to the LitRPG world, this series was a wonderfully awesome introduction. The storytelling was wonderful, it draws you in from the start and keeps you hooked. Characters appear in your minds eye with clarity and personality. This is a series and author to follow.
Rob and his party continue to gain power. They win some battles with the Blight. Interaction with the mere people, destruction of corruption, and relationships ensue. Will Rob and Kiera finally admit the feelings that they have for each other? I like the action, humor, intrigue and romance. I look forward to the next book.
Not commenting on my title. This book was quite a bit more serious, except when it wasn't and when it wasn't it was absolutely hilarious or sweet. I love all the characters, even the bad ones to be honest. And part of me can't wait see what the coin flippers have instore.
I was so surprised to find out how much I actually loved this book and then the series (as of book 3.) It has the leveling up and lit rpg underlings but the storyline and the author's immense talent sit wonderfully surrounding it. I laughed, cried, and couldn't purchase the next book fast enough! I love this series and thank you so much KamikazePotato for sharing it with us 👱🧝👹🐲❤️❤️❤️
This is a good book. You shouldy read it. I like the story. The characters are fun. The book is a good read. i enjoyed it alot.. Download or buy it today. why not?
There was so much packed into this book and I loved it all. Most importantly I loved how Rob and his friends looked out for each other emotionally. This is something that many novels miss out on and this one had in spades. I very much look forward to a fourth book.
Yet another incredibly fun book to read. The way the author forms the world around the reader is a delight and I can’t wait for more books to see what happens with the world as things move forward.
