I don’t know who needs to hear this but, Yonas Kadir is MINE!!!! I realize I’m a little late to the party but, he's still mine. Fight me! Oh, how I loved me some Nas. 🥰🥰🥰 He was the epitome of a multilayered character. This man was the perfect combination of dangerous, hood, and professional. With all the businesses he owned, Nas personified black excellence. He was articulate and educated but, at the flip of a switch, he had absolutely no problem hemmin’ you up by the throat and bodyin’ ninjas when needed. Nas is still grieving the death of his girlfriend so, love is the last thing he’s looking for. But, his sister is on his azz about bringing a plus one to her wedding so, he decides to take the advice of his friend and use the services of a matchmaker. What he did not expect was the instant attraction to the owner. Dae Richardson owns ICON which, happens to be the premiere matchmaking company in Atlanta. She’s finding love and HEAs for everyone but herself but, all that changes when Yonas Kadir walks through the doors of ICON. Nas decides he doesn’t want just anyone to be his plus one. He wants Dae and, since the chemistry between these two was prevalent from the start, he has no problem convincing her to do so. I loved the journey this couple embarked on and how organically they fell in love with each other. We get to witness Nas’ vulnerability and see him finally move on from his pain and grief and accept his attraction to Dae. I also loved how big they were on communication. The openness of their relationship truly felt special. They Call Me Nas was a great read. It was an angst free slow burn with just the right amount of drama. The heartbreak, the love, and the family ties will pull you in and keep you totally invested in this storyline.
Yonas “Nas” & Dae Was A Slllloooowww Burn! If that’s not your thing, this story definitely won’t be of interest. What I enjoyed most about this story, although Nas had one foot in the street and one in his legal business, he was a man’s man…there wasn’t a lot of drama..especially with the opposite sex and I really enjoyed that…he put one female in her place soooo smoothly when he and Deja’s relationship was beginning to blossom and he never heard from her after that incident. He just had to get his street life in order to continue building a happy and healthy relationship with Dae….my questions would be what were the twins sex and names?
I really enjoyed Nas and Dae’s journey to love 🥰! Nas was navigating grief 3 years later experiencing a horrible tragedy and Dae came along and snatched his heart when he least expected. This was a nice slow burning read. I’m starting to become a fan of slow burners, the dating, the talking on the phone, the random flowers at work….. it was all a nice build up to the 🔥🔥 between the two. I loved the confidence Dae had throughout the book. She was a boss in every sense of the word. She had no problem putting folks in their place and even gave Nas the challenge he needed. Did it need to be 400+ pages not really but there was a lot in the story that made it a really enjoyable read! There was just enough suspense and a few moments that kept me guessing.
I really did enjoy this love story between Nas and Dae! It was a slow burn love but an easy love. No outsiders just them! Nas was very in the streets and was honest about off rip to Dae. Dae to my surprise was shockingly enough down for it because he presented her with a challenge for something new. Successful women usually always have it hard when finding men that don’t feel less than when courting them. Nas didn’t have that problem and showed he was it from the get go! Now there are a few twist and turns in this story that I appreciated but some that felt anticlimactic once they were resolved leaving me wanting more. I’m giving this book a 4 because regardless I still enjoyed the love story with a splash of street!
I don’t know what isn’t sitting right with me, the fact that I am just reading this book or the fact that everyone has read it but me. But darn it, I get it and I am here for Nas! 🤤there’s something about a strong black man that’s about his business professionally, but will also get his hands dirty. It will do it for me every time! 👏🏾I loved Dae & Nas together. It’s like that Fabulous song when he says, “I’m a movement by myself but I’m a force when we’re together..” YES! Nas needed someone on his level and Dae was his equal. She’s a boss in every sense of the word and she knew she could provide for herself but she wanted a protector. 😝The sexual chemistry, ease of communication, and mutual respect was much appreciated. I enjoyed this one.
Words can’t not express how much I loved this book. EVERY SINGLE PAGE. Listen, I’m square, OK. I prefer my man with either a blue-collar or white-collar job. None of that side hustle stuff. But Nas!?!? Yonas?!?! Yonas Kadir?!?! Man, I’d risk it all for that man. Illegal side job and all. That man exuded and oozed BDE, sexy. Everything he did was 🤤🤤. He commanded a room like no other. And Dae. She was the sweetest girl. She’s miss independent, she’s a badass, she’s a boss and she’s got her own. Ms. Dae didn’t need a man to take care of her…at least not financially. I loved her.
The story was sort of a slowburn. The courting, the dating, the getting to know each other was done beautifully. Nas isn’t afraid of much. Au contraire, he’s feared my most. So when he showed a little vulnerability that showed he was still human after all…oh my goodness. I loved it 🥰. He loved Dae so well. He was so intentional in the way he loved her even while he was still grieving. I could go on about this and end up giving all the spoilers, but I’ll spare you all. But this was absolutely amazing. I know I’m late, but I super highly recommend.
Nas! Although this man has gone through a traumatic event that changed his life, he was still THAT n***a! He was a poised, educated and articulate, but on the flip side a dangerous man in the streets! Love and commitment was a thing of the past, that he would not even consider, until he met Dae! Dae, has really made something of her life in every aspect, except love. Men are intimidated by her success and wealth, so she has decided flying solo is the way to go. These two met in a very unusual way, and the chemistry was felt immediately! Dae made Nas question everything about his prior relationship, connections and what love really feels like. Nas has a dark side, but even that couldn't sway the way Dae felt about getting to know him. She felt safe and protected with Nas, and enjoyed how he made her feel. Not too much drama, although I did feel that there would be more with detective Marshall. This slow burn was a long read, but enjoyed it! 👍👍👍
I truly enjoyed this read... It was such a great experience and story...Nas was deep and Dae was just the light he needed. I love the edge but it was not over the top that it took away from the story. I loved the persona of his sister and the vernacular of Nas was something refreshing.
I have never disliked a character as much as I disliked Dae bc babbbyyyyy I was ready to square up on her bc LORD was she ANNOYING !!! Like madam have sense PLS - it's hard to believe this woman was really a CEO or "boss lady" with just how easily she folded into Nas and his dealings. She was very insecure about their relationship (& constantly brought up Corree) even when Nas made it clear several times that she was the one & only priority -__- there was a scene where she goes to Eden's shop and gets defensive when Eden shared that Nas had an account at the store (like ma'am he's dated other women before you & has made it clear he's not seeing anyone else, so why do you care!?!?!?!?!?!).
It was just little things like that, that made her dislikeable to me….actually imma be honest Dae was a weak character to me and just unlikeable.
However, Nas was IT! I really liked him as a character and how he didn't mince his words and made to communicate about his he was feeling and expecting within the relationship. He had sense. So I appreciated that and the fact that his roughness wasn't too much, not overbearing or abusive - and not too crazy. He was a very well written and likeable character.
I loved this book but towards the end it felt very much like having sex with a stingy man. Extremely underwhelming.
Black men superiority!!!!!!!!! I wanted to give it 4 stars but I just had more questions towards the end ... Maybe my expectations are higher for black romance books because I just love reading good work from my people.
But we do have the "touch her and die" vibes from Nas so that is a major plus. Soft black girl from Dae so I loved that as well. Also what happened to Marshall? The way he just disappeared I didn't like it ... It made me want a Marshall spin off. A gay one preferebly. Also, the plot twist? 🤣 My reaction was literally "uhhh, that's it?".
I enjoyed this book. Yonas was so mature! I think my favorite part was how honest he was. Dae was the total package just waiting for the right guy. Story had a nice pace and kept me entertained.
Mr.Kadir was a man who I could see no wrongs in and I may be delusional but he was as close to perfect as you can be. The way he treated DAE from the start was truly amazing and too cute to read about. His past was something I understood completely on why he was the way he was and it made me love him more. He was a grown man who kept it real 100% if the time and I fell in love with him!!!
The chemistry between them was amazinggggg and I ate it up from start to finish. I loved they were two bosses in their own right and didn’t let that stop their journey .
The plot in this book was also amazing and it gave us something else to keep us hooked along with the romance side and had my jaw wide too !
Like how was this story so detailed on how a BOSS moves in his world???? I enjoyed this story and the development of Yonas and Dae. Talk about smooth! I felt his grief and need for help to move forward and Dae was that and more.
I have been waiting forever to read this and i am happy I finally got to read. It showed at the library.
I liked Nas. He was hurting and just needed someone to heal him. In walks Dae and changes his life. She was a strong, independent, black woman. She looked past his bad parts and got to his heart. Good read!
The book started out so slow, and never progressed. I was struggling to stay focused! I found myself skipping Parts. This is a first coming from KC. I love her books!
Nas was definitely Book Bae, he had ALL that Book Bae Energy! Yonas aka Nas was a boss in every sense of the word. He had his hands in both the light and dark parts of business. I loved that we got to experience his layers. He was at a stage in his life where he was finally ready to move forward. He wanted it all, the boss life and the family and there were so many obstacles keeping him from it, but he stayed the course. Dae was a boss babe. She had her own multi millionaire business, which is how they met. She matched Nas's energy and I enjoyed them together. Although Dae was confident in her career, she was a lot more self conscious in her interactions with Nas. It was nice to see her open up and trust, even when maybe she shouldn't. We get to experience them fall for each other and it was beautiful. Nas went through so many emotions...guilt, hope, fear, and love. His evolution was slow, but intentional. Dae also let her guard down and really opened up to new possibilities.
This book was approaching 5 star status, but there were a lot of grammatical errors. I felt like I was editing the book at a point. Also I would've loved some closure around Nas meeting both of Dae's parents. As well as did they have boy or girl twins and what were their names. Definitely a good read!
Although a slow read, I really enjoyed it. Very well written and great character development. Nas was definitely an alpha with an alluring swag while Dae was a boss thriving to expand her company. There was no denying the instant attraction between these two. I loved the journey of their budding relationship. They didn't just rely on what they researched about each other but actually made quality time to really get to know one another regardless of the naysayers. Nas may have come off as dangerous but it was all for those he held close to him. There were a few bumps along the way and secret revelations but it the end Nas and Dae held true to their feelings and moved forward even adding a few blessings along the way.
Loved this book! Yonas was such a layered character, and KC Mills wrote him with so much depth. I love a man who is exactly who he says he is, and Nas never switched up—not once.
Dae Richardson is a boss in her own right, and the way she carried herself made her the perfect match for him. Their dynamic was intense, magnetic, and grown.
KC Mills gives us Black love unapologetically, wrapped in real-life complexity, and she does it so well EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Is Yonas a bad man? Maybe. Is he also a great man? Absolutely. And I love that for Dae! 😍
Favorite quote: “I don’t want this life for you, but it’s all I have to offer because it’s who I am. The fact remains, however, that I want you.” — Nas
Dae was exactly what Nas needed—a self made boss babe choosing him because she wanted to! She was an interesting roller coaster of emotions and perspective but it worked. Nas was a sophisticated shoot first, talk later kind of guy and I loved it. For the way he talked and moved you’d never know he had such precise aim!
KC writes my kind of urban! Just enough urban to make my jaw drop open or my eyes bug out a few times with enough contemporary and spicy romance to make me blush and fall in love with the love.. not just the mess!
This was a Kindle Unlimited read and I also ended up listening to the audiobook on Scribd. ult's a fake dating, slow-burn urban romance between two entrepreneurs who found each other at the right time. Iloved the storytelling and there's no 70% to 80% breakup point. They communicated their issues. This was my first time reading this author but it won't be my last.
A slow-ish burn which I’m never mad at. But I don’t know how I felt about the characters honestly. I love an Alpha “touch her and you die” kinda man but other than that Nas wasn’t particularly a favorite of mine. Dae was ok as an FMC, I get her internal struggle a bit trying to reconcile who Nas was and how she felt.
I enjoyed this book. It took a different angle than most mafia romance. I like the vulnerable aspects we hardly ever read regarding a crime boss. Nas and Dae are a dreamy power couple.
This book solidified that the dead lover trope is not my thing. Dae mentioned this man dead ex so many times it was quite annoying. For a woman who is suppose to oh so confident even when nobody was talking about his dead ex she would bring her up. It
