When Dustin Whalen made the mistake of calling Robert McCammon's Swan Song, "Swan Dong," MoM pounced on them, exploited the innocent mistake, and insulted them into hiding.
As the legend goes (most likely a half-truth), the cackling mommas then decided to hold a contest to see who could write a story based on the aforementioned title, Swan Dongs. Well. Three lucky (or at least equally ridiculous and depraved) authors were chosen from the MILLIONS of submissions.
Never has a slip of the tongue done so much for the sexual imaginary. Each story is a great joke somewhere between bizarro and splatter. Looking forward to more of these anthologies from Mothers of Mayhem.
*I'm not going to give you the 'what this book is about' blurb - you can read that elsewhere.
1. For a book that started off a typo and ensuing joke this is everything, EVERYTHING you want it to be. It's gritty, it's gross, and, most importantly, it's hilarious 😂 2. Mothers of Mayhem Podcast might be my favorite podcast, and the authors that are part of the inner circle, may be my favorite authors, but realistically they're just some incredibly talented humans that can take a goofy typo and make it into a truly awesome short story. Or - in this case - 3 awesome stories so incredibly different from each other that my mind was blown. I really cannot understand creative people, but, my gosh, do I love them for giving me this type of entertainment. 3. I laughed A LOT at this, please do yourself a favor and give it a read. Yes, it's a little gross, but it's a lot fun :) 🦢🍆
I’d like to begin by saying “thank you” to Dustin for making that epic typo that spawned this gem! Never have I laughed so hard at so many times while reading! From the super realistic-feeling tale from Grindstaff, I have to say I will never look at nature documentaries the same after that twist ending! In the second tale, by Collins, I loved the visuals he gave of all the villains! I want this as a graphic novel so bad!! And the final, winning piece by Holbrook… what can I say? A joy ride with Jesus and Thor sure took a left turn under that second yellow light! WOW!! Loved the “Dude Where’s My Car?” feel to it and the absolutely wild ride with Olsteen!!
I need more collections like this from Mothers of Mayhem!
What the actual Hell did I just read? Three of the the most ridiculous, disgusting, and messed up short stories I have ever read. It was amazing. I couldn't stop laughing. A must read for anyone who is sick and twisted.
3 Stories that will make you scratch you head.. they are ridiculous, nasty, and quite weird.. the 1st one, named "Swan Dong" by Chris Grinstaff was my favorite!
What a unique and fun filled hilarious lol afternoon and what the hell did I just read, but I found myself wanting to read more of this utter weirdly engrossing madness, did I say a lol fun read.
These three author's decided to enter a competition and there was three winners and then hey presto a cracking short read with an individual story by each author unique in their own style of hilarity.
It had some gore factor and gag worthy reflexes from myself but so funny, but not for the feint hearted!!!!!
