Out in Austin #3

Trusting Tennyson

Rate this book
Tennyson thought this would be just another undercover assignment. Catching feelings for two traumatized men wasn't part of the plan.

When FBI Agent Liam Tennyson was embedded in the La Familia cartel, he didn't expect to meet not one but two young men whose terrified eyes haunt his dreams—and stir up feelings he thought long buried.

Asher Downs left his homophobic family behind the day he earned his high school diploma. With little more than a bus ticket to his name, he moves to Austin to meet his online boyfriend, Devon. Unfortunately for Asher, life doesn't always go according to plan.

Misha might have been born as Dimitri, but now he answers to whatever name Master gives him. Snaring another innocent young man into this life is the last thing Misha desires. But Master gets what Master wants—and Master wants a matching set of toys to play with.

When a mole in the justice department compromises Tennyson's identity—and jeopardizes his plan to rescue Misha and Asher—Tennyson is left with no choice but to go on the lamb. Can the two traumatized boys learn to trust him to keep them safe?

Misha is the property of his cruel Master, given away by an uncle when he was only ten. He got nothing else in his miserable life than to serve his sinister Master ánd his friends.
And now Master wants another plaything.

Through an online game platform, Misha/Devon has to romance Asher and convince him to come to Austin.

Asher left home as he was supposed to do after earning his diploma from high school. His awful parents despised him since they’d understood Asher was gay. Not allowed to talk to his younger brother anymore in case he’ll infect him with his gayness.
So, a bus ticket brought him to Austin, to meet his online boyfriend Davon.

Watching Master torture Misha was hard, unbearable, the cruelty, the hurt. GHB, strict diets, let other men use him for pleasure, unconsciousness, parties, the cages, basements, you get the drift? Yes, it was horrible.

Imagine what happened when Asher got there under pretenses. It’s worse than you can imagine.

After years, for Misha years longer than Asher’s, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, and it’s got a name: Special Agent Liam Tennyson.

So far, that’s only the first part of this story.
Now, Liam Tennyson has to gain the boys’ trust, an almost impossible job, after years of abuse, indoctrination, and isolation.
Liam is a Daddy in heart and soul. He’s traveling around with the two boys in a camper. Thin walls, vulnerable boys, slowly they start trusting him.

There are more events, too many to mention, happy ones and serious troubled ones.
The trauma they had been through stayed consistently palpable throughout the whole story, they weren’t healed by a miracle, it wasn’t something that disappeared into the background. I found that aspect very respectfully approached and convincingly done.

A story about human trafficking, undercover agents, and vulnerable boys, who rediscover themselves, trusting Liam and accepting a Daddy.
Alternating between now and then, and from different pov’s, among them is Ryder, Asher’s brother.

Asher, Misha, and Liam are three different layered characters and their dynamic felt true and honest.
It’s a widely and very entertainingly written story, it dragged me in and I couldn’t stop until I was finished. Every emotion was palpable! The time frame and pace were perfect, and the development ditto.
It was a long sit, for me, it could have done without Ryder and Mason’s parts ánd Riley’s one that was a bit confusing, maybe it’s an introduction to a next installment. The rest of the story was more than enough! The story has a comfortable flow, it was well constructed and developed, from heartbreaking and painful to more stable and loving, where there was plenty of room for laughs.
Overall a recommendation worthy!

Misha’s abuse started when he was ten. Years of being used by his sadistic “master” and his friends. His master forces him to befriend Asher. Once Asher is under the control of the master his systematic abuse begins also. Five years later Asher and Misha are rescued by undercover FBI agent Tennyson. He knows he shouldn’t get attached to the “boys” but they just need him as much as he needs them.

Absolutely heartbreaking story. The author did such a good job of portraying the horror that they went through. Though the boys were in the grip of abuse, their clinging to each other was what kept them sane. Knowing there was no way out they were resigned to their lives.

I loved Tennysons essence. He had such strength and fortitude. His acceptance of his role as their forever champion fit his shoulders very well.

So much depth to these characters. The supporting players (specially Ryder) were extra special. Most of their stories have come before so they were familiar. All the braveness put forth was engrossing. I think Misha was the bravest boy ever.

Great book, be prepared to be devastated then put back together.

I received an arc of this book.

Age-gap, M/M/M romance, traumatic, PTSD; a smidge of Daddy/little
If you like dark gay romance where the good-guys must fight for every morsel of freedom, try this book. You will find some tragic topics but timely none the less. This is a cautionary tale: are the internet or the people you meet there, trustworthy? Oh. My. Word. This was not a short book, but I could not stop reading. It grips the reader in the beginning and won’t let go. Kidnapping, human trafficking, should-be good guys, turn out to be less than.
I can guarantee you that you will be so angry at some parts of this book at the treatment shown to Misha and Asher. The author has given these young boys/men a voice in their situation. Powerful stuff actually. When they meet Tennyson, Misha and Asher can’t believe if they should trust him or not. Is he playing some game with them? While undercover FBI Agent Liam Tennyson is independently wealthy, he likes getting the bad guys since an event with his father. What Ten discovers in this undercover job, is that not everything is as it is purported to be. Can he turn things around for himself and the boys for whom he is beginning to have feelings? What would happen next? There are sweet moments especially when Misha gets to do things, he never thought possible. Humorous moments between the boys later. Oh! And there will be lots of steam after…nope. That’s enough! Read this book to find out.
I’m hoping the next book is about Riley and maybe we finally get to see a “great man” take a tumble…I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews. I’ve read all three in this series but this is the most compelling.

I was on the fence about my rating of this book, but ultimately gave it four stars because I really like the book, It is the third in the series, but it pretty much read like a stand-alone. Asher, Misha, and Tennyson were wonderful characters and I was so happy that they were able to establish a well-adjusted relationship giving the horrors that Asher and Misha had faced for years. I think what threw me off was how 50% through the book, the main suspense wrapped up and it kind of left me floundering. Other than that the book was good.

*I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

A horrifying beginning put my reading drive in high-gear towards getting to the happy ending!

This book is no joke on the trigger warnings, it is definitely not for the faint of heart!

I was draw to this book with the promise of “hurt and comfort” and I assure you, I WASN’T disappointed! This book and heart and all the feels!

I will admit, I was hesitant to read a story about a relationship that came after such horrible events, but I was so pleasantly surprised by the time between events and the growth of the characters in that time. “Time makes the heart grow fonder”, which I can’t help but see in this story as each persons longing for the others comes about individually and without any pressure. They are fully-developed characters that’s each provide a unique perspective that progresses the story naturally with their character growth.

My only issue with the story (again, this is just a personal preference) but the story did feel a little too “perfect” at times. Misha being interested in getting a “daddy” (the first real romantic relationship he had ever seen), and Liam already being a daddy, it felt a little too organized. Also, the section where they all got to get pets felt a little rushed/ misplaced, and weird that at the very least Liam wouldn’t be there with them looking, not to mention any of the adoption process that seemed to be skipped on the shelters part, but what is a story if it’s not meant to work out in one way or another?

Ellis left the story open-ended, but not to the point where I was left unsatisfied, but rather intrigued by where the rest of the series could go. They handle abuse and trigger subjects with delicacy and good pacing, which made the relationships developed feel all the more natural. I throughly enjoyed this read, and look forward to more from the author soon!

1st I got to say that I got this book from gay romance reviews and this is me leaving my honest review.
I honestly don’t even know where to begin with this book to say I went through every single emotion would be an understatement I have never felt anger like I felt reading what these poor boys had been through.
Misha was given to a human trafficker at the age of 10 by his own uncle. And then you have got Asher also Taken he was a bit older but living in hell under the hands of his master.
Liam Tennyson is an undercover agent who is trying to get to the bottom of the human trafficking. And this is where it comes into contact with Misha and Asher.
I really don’t wanna give too much away because you have honestly got to read this book to understand what these boys have been through and how hard it is to trust again.
It is written so well it is exceptional. To say I shed a tear reading this book would be an understatement oh I just wanted to do was wrap them up in cotton wool and keep them safe. The connection Misha and Asher have is one that will never be broken. But what do they think of Liam?? He is a brilliant man.
It was great to see faces from previous books.
I can not wait to read more by KD Ellis. Honest amazing writing.

MIsha has suffered horrifically from a young age at the hands of a brutal man.
Despite his dire circumstances he retains an improbable air of hope, humility and purity.
When his abuser demands Misha seek out a playmate he balks because he doesn't want another young man to suffer as he has.
He has no choice in the matter and that is how Asher is pulled into the dark and dangerous situation with him.
Throughout their time in danger they form an amazing bond (after all they only have each other to rely on)
When a new player Tennyson is introduced they obviously leery of him.
He's undercover and discovering them in captivity has just blown his plans out of the water.
He falls for them and now the job is about rescuing them.
I loved the the three of them together.
Watching Misha and Asher slowly learn to trust was was wonderful.
Tennyson was such an amazing caretaker for them, helping them to slowly recover and realize their own self worth and strengths.
It was hard for these men to navigate a relationship together but they make it work.
The emotional connections between them were beautiful and the chemistry was absolutely sizzling.

I think the description makes it a little confusing. Misha was trafficked at 10 years old. He is forced to coerce another teen, Asher into meeting him, essentially trapping him into the same life. The first part of the story goes back and forth from present day to five years ago, and it's heartbreaking to know what's going to happen. This is a pretty heavy read. When Liam rescues them, he is working for the FBI, and can't immediately fall into a relationship with them. He has to separate himself and let them get back on their feet as individuals. He eventually comes back and they learn to trust each other, what "real" like is like. What family is. There are scenes that are heartbreaking. Asher learning about his family, Misha just staring at the cupboards full of food. But it has a feel good ending. You know they are healing together.

The characters from the previous books make a brief appearance, but you won't be lost if you haven't read them.

Wow, what a book! This is the third book in the series but I’d argue you could read it as a stand-alone (although the characters from the first two books do appear in this one).

To start with I would warn anyone who has triggers to read the warnings as this does cover some heavy topics and is absolutely heartbreaking at times. Misha and Asher are just so adorable and although they had a really rough time, I love how protective Asher is and how Misha is still almost innocent in a way.

Tennyson is so great and I adore the way he looks after the two boys and is determined to do right by them. The cameos from Teddy and Shiloh are just the icing on the cake and this book was just so phenomenal.

This is one of those books when you buy it it should automatically come with a box of tissues maybe a bottle of wine. This book was a whirlwind of a story. I'm pretty sure I had every emotion that there is to have while I read this book. By the halfway point I'm pretty sure I was begging to climb into my Kindle so that I can have these guys. My heart was ripped out and then slowly sewn back together and lightly put back in my chest. I absolutely loved this book. It knocked me for a loop and left me with a crazy good book hangover.

This is one of those complex books that you just cannot stop reading. I felt so much anguish for what Asher and Misha endured, but I had this underlying hope for them! This book gives you all the background which so richly develops the boys. Asher and Misha are so different despite what they went through together. They both need something different back in the real world. The emotional bond these two had with each other was powerful. Tennyson truly was a knight in shing armor for them. Tennyson felt an instant need to protect and nurture these boys. I read an arc, and all the comfort and support from Tennyson was beautiful to watch as it helped these poor boys start to flourish and feel whole again. Sometimes tough to read but that made the happy ending so much more fulfilling.

I don't really like a to and fro in time, but this time we needed the more in depth background to understand the anger, searching for, frustration and mistrust. Even of the good guys. To have had all the events of the past explained at once, could have been too overwhelming. Only my opinion.
KD Ellis has pulled me in with every one of her books and time flies. Every interruption was not graciously dealt with.
Asher was scammed into meeting Misha in Austin and hidden for 5 years before Tennyson from the FBI traces them.
A dose of angst and a bundle of love.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I loved Trusting Tennyson. It’s at times really brutal and dark, but there’s also a lot of love and hope for the future. Misha, Asher, and Liam are all such well-developed characters, and Ellis does a really good job of handling characters’ trauma in a sensitive way. I adored all three of the main characters. The pacing is perfect, and the story kept me on the edge of my seat. I stayed up way too late to finish this one, and my emotions were all over the place. It’s ultimately a really sweet story of love and healing, and they all compliment each other well.

Such a heartbreaking story that had my heartstrings constantly pulled on that I had to take a few breaks to just get through to the finish. I don't think I have ever witnessed such bravery born from such a despairing place.

I loved how both boys found a certain solitude with each other and protection from an unlikely person.

Absolutely heart wrenching and not a soft, fluffy story, we have so much darkness to unpack but somehow our boys are able to find a light at the end.

Misha and Asher's relationship begins under very deplorable conditions. When they meet Liam, he is undercover so they don't think they can trust him. It does take a while but eventually Misha, Asher, and Liam find themselves in a wonderful relationship. I like the dynamic between the three characters. I also like seeing the other characters from the previous books male appearances. There is an overarching storyline so I would recommend reading these books in order.

This one was a little different from the first two but still just as good. These poor boys have been through far too much trauma but at least they have each other and are through the worst of it and getting to enjoy being young and carefree by the end.

I like that the ending of this one wasn't as abrupt as the previous two which seemed to end quite quickly after the main drama was over. For these boys their worst point was passed midway through and most of the story was them starting to recover afterwards and figure out how to live normal lives, but there were enough plot points to keep it interesting. It just meant the ending felt like a much smoother, natural end.

The structure was a little different, jumping between multiple personalities, not just those of the three participants of the relationship - Ryder and Mason made sense, but the random section of Riley was unexpected. Though, it certainly foreshadows what's to come in book four (I assume anyway) so it does make sense, even if it felt a little disjointed and unconnected to the main story itself.

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next in this series!

This book. Whew. Talk about breaking you into tiny pieces and putting you back together again. Ugh.

Misha and Asher were 100% heartbreaking. The abuse they suffered at the hands of master was absolutely devastating. You had to wonder how it was going to get better. Then comes Tennyson. He knew he shouldn’t get overly involved but he couldn’t help himself.

I was so intrigued by the dynamic between Misha and Asher. Their relationship seemed to work in a way you wouldn’t expect. And Misha, jeez, could he be any purer? I loved that he kept hope alive and it paid off for him. Asher and he deserved all the good things. Tennyson was such a well written character. You could see his care for Misha and Asher in everything he did. He was such a loving Daddy. The daddy aspect of their relationship just seemed to fit perfectly for them.

Ellis really gave us a book that tore us down emotionally. So much angst. But Ellis also allowed us to watch two traumatized boys grow and thrive with Tennyson. I highly recommend this one.

Hangover worthy!
Have you heard of book hangovers? Books that are so good that long after you've read them, the story lingers in your mind. I'll be hungover with this one for quite awhile!
No spoilers, but this book takes things you'd expect to see in today's headlines, mix it in with endearing characters and give you a love story for the ages.
If you haven't read previous books in the series, that's okay, you'll still love this. But you'll want to go back and catch up. If you have read the previous books you'll enjoy visits from beloved characters.
This is a must read!

A Nail-biting Journey to Happiness

I like a dark book, and this delivered in spades. K.D. Ellis doesn’t hold back, giving us the full experience of what these two poor souls (Misha and Asher) go through. It’s heartbreaking, but what I liked was getting to see the difference in how it happened for Misha and how it happened for Asher. Misha was a lot younger when he was taken than Asher was. What resulted was him having a much more naïve outlook on life, whereas Asher was soured. I loved that contrast and found it very believable so kudos to the author for depicting this so well.

And God, can we talk about Misha for a second? Despite all he’d been through, he remains a pure soul and I adored the way the author wrote him. He somehow hung onto hope and love and remained open to the magic life still might have to offer him.

As I mentioned, Asher was a neat contrast to this. Life with his parents wasn’t great to begin with, but it wasn’t as bad as being abducted. He kinda went from bad to worse. He came out of the ordeal (understandably) less trusting than before and his differing perspective from Misha’s I attributed (at least some) to the age he was when he was lured in.

The relationship between Misha and Asher was pure gold.

I had no idea how we’d move into a Daddy/boy style relationship with Tennyson after the horrors Misha and Asher went through, but as it turned out, it was the perfect thing for them. The trio fell together naturally. Tennyson was a caring and considerate Daddy to Misha. I loved how Asher’s role was also to take care of Misha but in a more understated way than Tennyson’s.

This is a nail-biting read that will grip your heart and squeeze it multiple times. I highly recommend the journey!

This is the story of Tennyson, Asher and Misha. It is the 3rd book in the Out in Austin series. Please read the trigger warnings.

I read the first two books in the series and thought they were amazing. This took my breath away. The way the story is written - beautiful, descriptive and heartbreaking.

I love how strong Tennyson is. Loved how the three of them just fit. Misha has an innocence to him that just makes you absolutely adore him, even after everything that happened. I loved the relationship between Asher and Misha trying to survive. All the characters absolutely came alive. Definitely definitely recommended.

I received this book as an Arc and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This book was absolutely beautiful. The story of two boys who’ve gone through hell, keeping each other sane and alive, and find the gorgeous man who saves them.
Misha has spent the majority of his life in forced servitude, to a sadistic older man. He has no money, no freedom, and no life outside of his captor. When his master thinks one boy isn’t enough, he brings in another captor. Where Misha is submissive and scared, Asher is angry and full of rage at their situation. They don’t see a way out, until an unexpected knight in a leather jacket shows up.
Tennyson is an FBI agent who’s been working on taking down a drug cartel. When he finds out the cartel is way more than he thought, he goes undercover to make the men involved pay. Then he finds two scared and abandoned boys with nowhere to go. Once they’re safe, his job is done, but his protective feelings for them aren’t.
This book is very emotional but also very hopeful. These boys have been through absolute horror but they find a way to live through it, and thrive. We also get to see the great characters from the first two books, and meet some great new ones 💜

I went in to this without having read the other two books and I didn't feel like I had missed out story wise, though I can see why it would be better to have read them when we meet the other characters again.

Throughout the book I'm amazed by Mischa and his survival instinct, even when things look bleak he makes it through.
Asher is very much like a wounded animal, barking at every threat and protecting Mischa at every cost.
The two of them together, the little touches they had grown used to affording themselves, the slow build of trust with Ten.
I loved watching it unfold, and I will be picking up the next book in the series.

This story went from chilling, intense, and gripping to finally end up with great hope, love, and happiness. The corruption (especially police, FBI, and political) left me feeling desolate for those involved. The resilience of youth left me hopeful and happy for them.I liked that Ten turns into a savior and avenging angel to protect those who can't protect themselves. Sadly, there's much more work to be done in the real world on these issues. Thought provoking and impactful!!!
